Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a thermoelectric generator that recovers heat of exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine and converts it into electric power.
As a method of recovering heat of exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine such as an automobile and converting it into electric power, it is known to arrange a thermoelectric generator in an exhaust gas discharge path or the like.
The thermoelectric power generator includes a thermoelectric module or a thermoelectric conversion element (hereinafter referred to as a thermoelectric module) inside, and generates power using the heat of the exhaust gas as a heating source.
A thermoelectric element is an element that is sandwiched between a heating source and a cooling source and generates a power by the Seebeck effect when a temperature difference is given. A thermoelectric module is a mechanically united device that electrically connects multiple thermoelectric elements in series. It has become. In the thermoelectric module, when looking at the flow of energy when heat energy is converted into electrical energy, the heat energy flows from the heating source to the heating surface of the thermoelectric module, and then in the thermoelectric module from the heating surface to the cooling surface. And then from the cooling surface to the cooling source. At this time, part of the thermal energy flowing inside the thermoelectric module is converted into electrical energy. The magnitude of the generated electrical energy differs depending on the material used for the thermoelectric conversion element, but when viewed in relation to the thermal energy, the thermal energy flowing through the thermoelectric module is large, that is, the temperature difference between the heating and cooling surfaces The larger the value, the greater the electrical energy that is converted. Therefore, a technique for increasing the temperature of the heating surface of the thermoelectric module and a technique for decreasing the temperature of the cooling surface are important.
Patent Document 1 includes an inner cylinder and an outer cylinder. Exhaust gas passes through an area inside the inner cylinder, and a cooling medium such as air passes through an area outside the outer cylinder provided with heat radiating fins. A thermoelectric power generator is disclosed in which a module is arranged in an area outside the inner cylinder and inside the outer cylinder.
In order to effectively use the thermoelectric generator in a vehicle, in order to achieve mounting in a limited space, the thermoelectric generator is small and lightweight, and high power generation is required to improve the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. It is necessary to obtain an output, that is, a high power generation density per unit volume.
The thermoelectric module has a heating surface and a cooling surface, and the power generation output is improved when the temperature difference between the heating surface and the cooling surface is large.
Therefore, the following elements are required to increase the power generation output density per unit volume.
First, thermoelectric modules are arranged with high density.
Secondly, the heat of the exhaust gas that is the heating source is transmitted to the heating surface of the thermoelectric module with high efficiency.
Third, the cooling surface of the thermoelectric module is efficiently cooled by the cooling source.
However, the conventional methods have the following problems (i) to (vii).
The method of Patent Document 1 has the following problems (i), (ii), (v), and (vi).
(I) The part where the thermoelectric module can be arranged is only the surface of the outer cylinder part (or / and the inner cylinder part). Therefore, there is a limit to arranging thermoelectric modules at high density.
That is, there is a limit to the power density per unit volume of the thermoelectric generator.
(Ii) The thermoelectric module is disposed outside the exhaust gas flow pipe. Therefore, there is a limit to the heat of exhaust gas transmitted to the heating surface of the thermoelectric module (hereinafter referred to as the thermoelectric module heating surface).
That is, there is a limit to the temperature improvement of the thermoelectric module heating surface.
(V) In the thermoelectric generator, a cooling water flow path is disposed on the outer periphery. Therefore, the outer diameter of the cooling water pipe that only surrounds the periphery of the exhaust gas passage pipe and the like is required.
That is, since the outer diameter of the cooling water pipe is large, the thermoelectric generator becomes large.
(Vi) In the thermoelectric generator as described above, since the cooling water flow path is arranged on the outer periphery, the outer diameter of the cooling water pipe that surrounds the periphery of the exhaust gas flow path pipe and the like is required.
That is, since the outer diameter of the cooling water pipe is increased, the weight corresponding to the outer diameter of the cooling water pipe is increased.
Further, the weight of the cooling water passing through the cooling water flow path is increased by the volume of the cooling water flow path when the thermoelectric generator is in operation.
The method of
(Iv) The thermoelectric module is cooled only from one cooling water flow path pipe. Therefore, there are the following problems.
There is a limit to cooling the thermoelectric module.
That is, there is a limit to the temperature drop of the cooling surface of the thermoelectric module (hereinafter referred to as the thermoelectric module cooling surface), which is the contact surface between the thermoelectric module and the member.
At the position away from the cooling water channel pipe (the inner diameter side of the cooling water pipe or the position away from the inlet of the cooling water channel (for example, near the outlet)), the temperature of the thermoelectric module cooling surface is unlikely to decrease, Conversely, the temperature may increase.

That is, the thermoelectric generator is composed of three tubes.
An object of the present invention is to improve the power generation output density per unit volume, reduce the weight and size, and further increase the temperature of the thermoelectric module cooling surface while increasing the temperature of the thermoelectric module heating surface.

Hereinafter, embodiments of a thermoelectric generator of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.
In FIG. 1, a thermoelectric generator 1 is disposed concentrically at a predetermined interval on the outer side of the
The
The
Next, the operation of the embodiment will be described.
The central
Further, since the
In addition, since the cooling water flow path serving as a cooling source is integrated in the center, the volume of the cooling water flow path is minimized, and the size and weight can be reduced during operation. Furthermore, maintenance of the

Next, FIG. 5 shows another embodiment of the present invention. The same parts as those in FIG. 1 are denoted by the same reference numerals, and description of the same parts is omitted.
In this case, the
According to this embodiment, the central oval or oval
Moreover, since the
According to the embodiment, the following effects can be obtained.
The
Next, FIG. 6 and FIG. 7 show another embodiment according to the present invention. The same parts as those in FIG.
In this embodiment, unlike the
In this case, similarly to the embodiment of FIG. 5, the
A special structure
The special structure
A specific structure of the special structure
As the thermoelectric element, a
The special structure
Since the power generation amount for each of the
A normal
As a usage situation of the above embodiment, the exhaust gas G passes through the inside of the special structure
Since the

Further, since the
