本発明のステアリングロック装置は、前述した従来から知られているステアリングロック装置と同様に、ステアリングコラムと、ステアリングシャフトと、キーロックカラーと、ロック用透孔と、ロックユニットとを備える。
このうちのステアリングコラムは、筒状で、車体に支持される。
又、前記ステアリングシャフトは、前記ステアリングコラムの内径側に回転自在に支持されている。
又、前記キーロックカラーは、前記ステアリングシャフトの一部に支持され、外周面に係合凹部を設けている。
又、前記ロック用透孔は、前記ステアリングコラムのうち、前記キーロックカラーと対向する部分に形成されている。
又、前記ロックユニットは、前記ステアリングコラムの外周面に当接する突き当て面を有し、この突き当て面に形成したガイド部を前記ロック用透孔の内側部分に配置した状態で、前記ステアリングコラムに支持されている。そして、イグニッションキーをOFFした状態でこのロックユニットを構成するキーロックピンを径方向内方に変位させ、このキーロックピンの先端部を前記係合凹部に係合させる事により、前記ステアリングコラムの内径側での前記ステアリングシャフトの回転を抑える。
特に、本発明のステアリングロック装置に於いては、前記ステアリングコラムの外周面のうち前記ロック用透孔の周囲に、全周に亙り、又は周方向に関して間欠的に、突壁部を設けている。
