The present invention relates to a method of making a pouch for dispensing viscous material.
The viscous material may include a sealant composition, a mastic resin composition, an adhesive composition, a polish composition, a caulking composition, a grout composition, and a glue composition. Typically, such viscous materials are packaged or stored in cartridges adapted to be filled into cardboard containers or extrusion devices such as plastic dispensers or caulking guns. Or commercially available. These viscous materials include silicone sealants and silicone caulks used in building construction and building applications. Some of these compositions are called room temperature vulcanizable (RTV) compositions. They may contain moisture curable polyorganosiloxane polymers, fillers and condensation curable catalysts. When used as a sealant, the compositions may be packaged in a moisture impermeable tube and applied to the substrate by extrusion from the package tube.
There are difficulties associated with these containers. For example, some materials are sold in cartridges for filling into caulking dispensers or caulking guns. A dispenser or gun is another tool to be purchased, stored, cleaned and maintained as part of the caulking process. Dispensers or guns can be cumbersome and difficult to operate, especially in tight spaces in buildings under construction. Also, the dispensing device may require a fairly large grip force, which causes difficulty in dispensing and spreading clean sealant beads.
In one process, a certain amount of sealant is extruded directly from the dispensing tube or cartridge into the gap to seal the area when dry. Typically, a dispensing tube or cartridge will contain more material than is required for a particular sealing operation. Usually, some unused portion of the tube remains after the required amount has been dispensed. The dispensing tube with the unused part is discarded or stored for future use. Disposal is uneconomical and is highly undesirable for environmental reasons. Today, there is no known recycling available for a wide range of sealant compositions that are commercially available.
If the container containing the remaining sealant is not discarded, it will need to be capped to store the material without condensation for future use. However, the sealant may contain volatile components that evaporate and solidify the remaining material. Other sealants could condense upon exposure to atmospheric oxygen. And unless the container is properly reclosed, the remaining material will be lost.
Some dispensing containers are sold with a snap-fit bead, as well as a thread or thread, to provide a secure fixation to the container body. However, these caps are brittle parts that can be easily broken or damaged by overtightening. The snap-in beads and grooves will not result in retaining the recloser bite by the next time the tube is needed for the caulking operation. Some informal cap devices include a nail location at the opening of the tube to make several plug types re-capping effective. Alternatively, the container cap is sold with a plug element to provide this function. However, if this is the case, these solutions do not prevent the contents from curing in a longer period of time than a short period.
Other methods of reclosing include wrapping the tip of the container with aluminum foil or plastic wrap, tightening with a rubber band, and wrapping the entire container in a sealable plastic packet. However, often these mechanisms do not work because the packet contains enough air to avoid or dry the contents of the tube. Furthermore, the foil or wrap cannot be tightly wrapped around the tube and nozzle without a gap.
There is a need for a container of viscous material, such as a small pouch, that solves the waste and difficulty problems of using conventional dispensers. There is also a need for a method of making such a pouch.
The present invention provides a method of making a viscous material dispenser used to make a pouch that can overcome the waste, cost and difficulty of conventional use. In one embodiment, a method of making and filling a pouch comprises: creating an opposing wall of the film; sealing the opposing wall of the film to create at least one pouch; Filling an inner portion of at least one pouch through the opening with a flowable material; creating a sealed squeeze-shaped region at the top to close the opening in the at least one pouch; and compressing the pouch In order to squeeze the flowable material through the squeeze-shaped region, it includes the step of accepting the pouch by a foldable flat that is harder than the pouch and can be folded and rolled.
As used herein, the term sealant refers to caulking agents including silicone caulking agents, latex caulking agents and acrylic caulking agents; filler compounds; adhesions such as repair and crack filling compounds for stucco, concrete and cement materials. Agent or mastic type material; Gasket compound; Groove, rain gutter, skylight or aquarium seam or sealant compound; Butyl or rubber sealant, cement and caulking agent; Roof cement; Panel and building adhesion Agents; glass mounting compounds and caulking agents; groove and lap sealants; silica gel-based refractory bricks, stones and ceramics, crack fillers and cements; silicone-based glues, ethylene glycol-containing latex glass mounting compounds, etc. Mr Such things include all.
One preferred sealant is an organopolysiloxane room temperature vulcanizable (RTV) composition. Room temperature vulcanizable silicone elastomer compositions may include a silanol-terminated base polymer or elastomer, reinforcing and / or stretch fillers, cross-linked silanes, and curing catalysts. These RTV compositions are prepared by mixing diorganopolysiloxanes having reactive end groups and organosilicon compounds having at least three hydrolyzable reactive moieties per molecule. Known RTV compositions include gaps between joints in building materials, joints between building structures and building materials, between bathtubs and walls or floors, cracks in bathroom tiles, and the like around the sink A variety of prefabricated rooms, as well as gaps in the bathroom, such as the gap between the washbasin support board and the wall, the gap in and around the kitchen sink, between cars, railcars, airplanes and ship panels It is widely used as an elastomer sealant material for applications involving gaps between various joints such as gaps in panels of electrical appliances, machines and the like. Room temperature vulcanizable silicone sealants can thus be utilized in various applications of caulking and sealants.

The stiffer flat 14 contains a substantially rigid substrate with
The flat 14 may contain any suitable hard or semi-rigid material, such as cardboard, paper board, cardboard, and any wood based paper, or a hard or semi-rigid plastic sheet material. Card stock is a suitable hard material. Cardstock thickness is often described in pounds weight. The pound weighs 500 sheets of 50.8 centimeters (20 inches) by 66.04 centimeters (26 inches). In the United States, card thickness is usually measured by points or mils, which provides a sheet thickness of 0.00254 centimeters (thousandths of an inch). For example, a 10 point stiffer flat is 0.254 millimeters (0.010 inches) thick and 12 points is 0.3048 millimeters (0.012 inches).
The flat 14 contains a combination of paper boards, usually two pieces of paper, a piece of paper and one internal fluted corrugated medium. Further suitable harder flat materials include rigid paper, cardboard, cardboard, paperboard including corrugated paperboard, and polyethylene such as 38.1 micrometer high density polyethylene. The stiffer flat 14 can contain a substantially hard material such as a thermoplastic such as (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) such as ABS. One preferred flat 14 material is a paper board that is 10 mils or 0.054 inches thick or greater.
Corrugated fiberboard is the preferred material for the flat 14. A corrugated fiberboard has two main components: a linerboard and a medium. Both can be made from heavy paper called cardboard. Cardboard is a flat finish bonded to the media. The medium is typically an internal fluted corrugated material. A corrugated board may be a medium glued to a flat sheet of cardboard, where it is between two sheets of cardboard, and a three-sheet cardboard is in between Has two media. The fluted media forms a hard arched column that is resistant to bending and pressure from all directions. As described below with reference to FIGS. 5-9, the corrugated board functions particularly well as a flat that helps to accept the pouch filled with sealant and squeeze the sealant. Has been found.

Example 1
Samples of packets were evaluated to establish a design for dispensing viscous materials.
Samples were constructed from a clear polypropylene Ziploc® packet, thin (<1 mm) black polypropylene and polyethylene sheets, and an acrylic thin film (<1 mm). The sheet material is cut into the shape of the packet by first cutting the top and bottom over the size into a triangle with triangular ends and thermally fusing the pieces together with one triangular end to form a nozzle. Formed and heat-sealed. Some packets were made with gussets. Gussets were made by folding the film on the side and bottom of the packet.
Excess material was excised from the packet after fabrication. Each packet was filled with material and heat sealed to form an enclosure. The packet varies in length from about 4 cm to 20 cm, varies in width from about 2 m to 15 cm, and varies in thickness (filled with material) from about 0.5 cm to 2 cm. The packet is filled with an acrylic caulk or silicone sealant.
A panel of evaluators is collected to evaluate each packet from the 20 to 30 array. Packets are evaluated for content integrity and ease and control of material squeezing. In the evaluation, the panel inspects each packet perceptually and tactilely before dispensing the material. Panel members collapse each packet to squeeze out the contents. The panel records the ease of control of squeezing the beads of material onto the test card board. The panel also observes all failures of packet integrity.
Packets were evaluated with both acrylic caulk and silicone sealants expressed. The panel performed multiple dispensing for each configured packet. The process was repeated with a series of packets constructed according to the nature of successful packets from the round of evaluation described above.
The panel identifies a packet design that is not completely filled with material, does not form a round opening that squeezes uniform beads, and is not flexible enough to fully fill. Some squeeze failures are resolved in subsequent rounds of evaluation by changing the angle and length of the packet nozzles. Some first round designs are observed to be too thin to allow the superior control required to dispense continuous and smooth beads of material. This can be done by (1) making one of the packet surfaces outside the harder plastic sheet, and (2) modifying the user interaction to fold the packet along the length of the fold Solve by providing a hard dispensing structure.
Some designs are recorded as having a film that is too thick. In these packets, the material resists moving inside the packet, thereby making it difficult to fully squeeze the packet material. This problem is solved by packets that are gusset designed to increase or reduce the packet's internal surface area while increasing the packet's capacity.
A creased semi-rigid plastic backing for the packet is determined to be the best design to maintain the desired amount of material and facilitate folding for dispensing. The packet is sized in total (7 cm × 5 cm × 1.5 cm) to be manipulated to fully squeeze the material with one hand. The dispenser nozzles selected have longer, 2 cm, and narrower, 1 cm nozzles to allow squeezing packets without nozzle deformation. The selected packet design then has a gusset on its side to minimize the internal surface area while increasing capacity and allowing the material to be dispensed by finger pressure on one hand.

Example 2
The resulting design was functionally tested by others representing consumer panels. Ten packets of the design were distributed to six people on the panel. Each person was instructed to squeeze the material out of the packet according to the procedure of pressing the packet manually with one hand with the index finger along the crease, folding the packet vertically, and squeezing the sealant from the nozzle of the packet.
The design judges will observe the squeezing procedure and record the panel comments. Consumer panel responses were taken to record the use of packets and comments.
The panel approved the proposed design. Panel comments on the following designs were recorded: “It's really great! I liked it.” “This is amazing. I can only say good things about this.” “Very easy to use. I love the beads that bring me, I feel I have a lot of control. ”“ I already like this and I can tell you why, because you can really manipulate the pressure. "It can be done in small quantities." "I didn't need a large amount of caulking agent and solved many people's problems at home." "Once you started using this, you can use my first use." As you can see, you are very professional enough. "

Example 3
This example describes a series of iterative evaluations of a sample of packets to determine the best harder material.
Initially, materials in the range of paper boards, plastic sheets and corrugated fiber boards were evaluated for power performance. The thickness of the sample paper board varies from approximately 0.254 millimeters (approximately 0.010 inches) to 2.54 millimeters (0.100 inches), and the thickness of the high density polyethylene sheet (HDPE) is approximately 0.127. Waveforms vary from millimeters (approximately 0.005 inches) to 2.54 millimeters (0.100 inches), and the corrugated fiberboard waveform varies from B flute to N flute.
The user rating determined that a paper board with a thickness of less than approximately 2.032 millimeters (approximately 0.080 inches) does not have sufficient stiffness for acceptable dispensing and ease of use. A thicker pepperboard provides improved performance, but was rated unacceptable due to its bulky feel. HDPE samples less than 1.016 millimeters (0.040 inches) in thickness were rated unacceptable due to insufficient stiffness. Thicker HDPE showed improved performance but increased cost.
The corrugated fiberboard was best in the E-flute and F-flute range. The display of characters is related to the size of the flute or refers to the number of flutes per linear foot. The E-flute has a 90 +/- 4 flute per linear foot and a thickness of 1.5875 millimeters (1/16 inch), and the F-flute has a 128 +/- 4 flute per linear foot and 0.79375. It has a thickness of millimeter (1/32 inch). E-flute and F-flute corrugated fiberboard packets have approximately 80% and higher percentage dispensing with one-handed use. The E-flute corrugated fiberboard also received the best use convenience rating.
Example 4
Another series of tests was conducted to determine the best performing packet in terms of encapsulant bead shape. Standard beads were defined as deposits of sealant with a circular cross section.
The first packet tested has only a top film pouch and a thicker bottom material sidewall. The thicker material sidewall was folded to form a nozzle. However, the nozzles formed from the folded side walls were flexible and formed non-uniform beads. The cross section of the beads began with a thin horizontal diamond shape. Later, due to aerobic dispensing, the bead cross-section became an unacceptable shape of a thin vertical diamond. In addition, the trillion film formed sharper folds and creases at the nozzle, making the cross-section less uniform.
In this example test, the semi-rigid material was attached to one side wall near the end of the packet. In these embodiments, the stiffer material sidewall is folded along its long axis to squeeze the pouch and the semi-rigid material is bent in a controlled manner, resulting in a substantially U-shaped squeeze shape. The U-shaped squeezed shape is more uniform and rounded in half of the cross-section, and the end of the flexible side wall is ruled to yield a uniform and rounded squeezed bead.
Example 5
HDPE was selected as a cost acceptable material for the top film pouch. HDPE has been found to adhere to a hard foldable sidewall material. In the squeeze test, the HDPE material cooperates with the U-shaped squeeze shape in forming the desired cross-sectional bead. The optimal HDPE was determined by a series of experiments on HDPE with a thickness of 0.127 millimeters (0.005 inches) to 7.62 millimeters (0.30 inches). 0.381 millimeters (0.015 inches) have been found to have the best performance of the range of materials in forming the cross-section of the beads.
