Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an optical scanning device and an image forming apparatus used for a laser printer, a laser plotter, a digital copying machine, a plain paper fax machine, and the like.
As an electrophotographic color image forming apparatus used in laser printers, laser plotters, digital copying machines, plain paper facsimiles, or multi-function machines of these, etc., it has only one photoconductor (drum) and color images one by one. The photosensitive member is rotated by the number of colors and sequentially transferred onto the intermediate transfer member, and a color image is formed on the intermediate transfer member. There is a drum-intermediate transfer type. According to this four-color, one-drum system, it is necessary to rotate the photosensitive member four times for each image formation, and productivity is inferior.
Therefore, in recent years, an image forming apparatus corresponding to a tandem system having a plurality of (usually four) photoconductors as image carriers has become widespread in order to increase the color and speed. In this tandem image forming apparatus, for example, four photoconductors (drums) are arranged in parallel along a transfer belt (or intermediate transfer belt) that conveys a recording material, and each photoconductor is charged by a charging unit and then written. The latent image is formed on each photoconductor by the image forming unit, and the latent image on each photoconductor is developed with a developer having a different color of the developing means (for example, yellow, magenta, cyan, and black toners). The image is visualized, and each color image is transferred onto a recording material (or intermediate transfer belt) conveyed by a transfer belt so as to form a color image.
In this tandem image forming apparatus, the speed can be increased and the productivity of color image formation can be improved as compared with the one-drum-intermediate transfer system. However, a writing unit using an optical scanning device can be used for a plurality of photoconductors. In order to perform optical writing, the number of light sources of the optical scanning device inevitably increases (for example, when there are four photoconductors, four light sources are usually required). This causes problems such as color shift and cost increase due to the wavelength difference. Further, deterioration of the semiconductor laser is cited as a cause of the failure of the writing unit. For this reason, if the number of light sources increases, the probability of failure increases and the recyclability deteriorates.
Therefore, there is an example in which the optical scanning device used in the tandem image forming apparatus is devised so as not to increase the number of light sources. For example, in Patent Document 1, a scanned surface with different beams from a common light source is scanned using a pyramid mirror or a flat mirror. However, with this method, the number of light sources can be reduced, but the number of deflecting mirrors is limited to a maximum of two, and there remains a problem with speeding up.
In order to solve the above problem, the optical scanning device proposed in Patent Document 2 splits one light beam from the light source into two light beams shifted in the sub-scanning direction by the light beam dividing means, and A configuration is shown in which two polygon mirrors stacked at different angles are scanned by deflection means that rotate coaxially, and two different scanned surfaces are scanned.
In this prior art, as means for scanning the surface to be scanned with different beams from a common light source, a polygon mirror with two phases shifted and shifted is used. It is not a general-purpose product and there is a concern about cost increase. In addition, the workability of the polygon mirror is also required, and the surface tilt of each step is different and the surface accuracy is different.
Therefore, Patent Document 3 is an optical scanning device that eliminates the disadvantages of Patent Documents 1 and 2, improves the separation between the incident beam and the scanning beam while maintaining high-speed and high-quality image output, and can also improve the layout. The deflecting means is a deflector having four reflecting surfaces, and the beam from the light source is divided into two between the light source to be modulated and the deflector, and each of the divided beams is deflected. There has been proposed a configuration in which a beam splitting unit that makes an incident with a phase difference of approximately π / 2 toward the deflecting reflection surface of the device is provided and two different scanned surfaces are scanned.
In the invention described in Patent Document 3, in order to increase the speed, the number of channels per light source must be increased, and there is a concern about an increase in cost.
Therefore, the present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and provides an optical scanning device and an image forming apparatus that can further reduce costs while maintaining high-speed and high-quality image output and further improve layout. For the purpose.
In order to achieve the above object, an optical scanning device of the present invention includes a light source that is modulated and driven, a deflecting unit having a plurality of deflection reflecting surfaces, and a scanning optical system that guides a light beam scanned by the deflecting unit to a surface to be scanned. And a deflecting means comprising a rotary reflecting mirror having six deflecting reflecting surfaces. The light beam is divided into a plurality of light beams between the light source and the deflecting means. It is characterized by comprising a light beam splitting means that makes an incident angle-difference toward the deflecting reflecting surface of the reflecting mirror.
In order to achieve the above object, an image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes the optical scanning device having the above-described configuration.
According to the present invention, it becomes possible to scan different scanning surfaces with a single light source, and it is possible to achieve cost reduction by reducing the number of light sources while maintaining high-speed and high-quality image output, and further improve layout. To do.

Hereinafter, the configuration, operation, and effects of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.
[Embodiment 1]
FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view of an optical scanning device showing an embodiment of the present invention. In FIG. 1,

Further, in FIG. 1, of the upper and lower two beams emitted from the
However, in FIG. 1, the upper and lower two beams emitted from the
That is, as shown in FIG. 3, the scanning optical system that scans the upper and lower two beams emitted from the
FIG. 4 is a diagram for explaining the optical scanning by the divided light. As shown in FIG. 4A, incident light x and incident light y from a common light source are in a main scanning plane perpendicular to the rotation center of the
The angle formed by the incident light x and the incident light y is 120 °, and the angle (= incident angle) formed by the central optical axis of each scanning optical system of the incident light x and the incident light y is around 30 °. If so, the divided light beams do not simultaneously scan the effective scanning area. As an example, with respect to the lower reflected light when the upper effective scanning region x shown in FIG. 4A is scanned (when the reflected light c is scanned to the reflected light b and reflected light a), Explained.
As shown in FIGS. 4A and 4D, when the upper incident light x becomes the reflected light c that coincides with the exposure start end of the upper effective scanning region x, the lower incident light y is reflected light. c 'and does not enter the lower effective scanning area y. Next, as shown in FIGS. 4A and 4C, when the
That is, it can be seen that the lower reflected light does not enter the scanning region from FIG. 4D through FIG. 4C to FIG. 4B. This is because the angle formed by the incident light x and the incident light y is 120 °, the incident angle of each of the incident light x and the incident light y is 30 °, and the number of surfaces of the
Since the incident light x and the incident light y are arranged vertically symmetrically with respect to an axis parallel to the main scanning plane of the
On the other hand, when the incident angle of 45 ° (example of Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2008-257169) when a four-surface polygon is used as a conventional deflector is applied as it is to the six-surface polygon of the present invention, scanning on the side opposite to the polygon is performed during image scanning. Light returns to the light source. In that case, if the scanning light returns to the light source (this phenomenon is referred to as return light in the following description), the light output becomes unstable, so the light output to the image becomes unstable, Quality defects occur as density unevenness.
In the present invention, the angle formed by the incident light x and the incident light y is 120 °, and the incident angle of each of the incident light x and the incident light y is 30 °. Since the scanning light is generated at the same timing, the generation timing of the return light is outside the image scanning region, so that it is possible to avoid the occurrence of density unevenness in the two scanning lights sandwiching the
When the upper incident light is scanning the effective scanning region, the light source is modulated and driven based on the image information of the corresponding color (for example, magenta). Further, when the lower incident light is scanning within the effective scanning area, the image information of two colors is obtained with the common light source by performing the modulation driving of the light source to the image information of the corresponding color (for example, black). It is possible to scan.
As shown in FIG. 12, the light can be incident on the same reflecting surface of the
Therefore, as shown in FIG. 1, the layout is improved when the divided light beams are incident on different reflecting surfaces of the
FIG. 5 is a timing chart of exposure for a plurality of colors. In FIG. 5, the vertical axis represents the amount of light, and the horizontal axis represents time. A time chart in the case where black and magenta exposure is performed with a common light source and all the lights are turned on in the effective scanning region is shown in FIG. A solid line indicates a portion corresponding to black, and a dotted line indicates a portion corresponding to magenta. The writing timing in black and magenta is determined by detecting the scanning beam with the synchronous light receiving means arranged outside the effective scanning width. Although the synchronous light receiving means is not shown, a photodiode is usually used.
FIG. 6 is a timing chart for varying the exposure amount depending on the color. In FIG. 5, the light amounts in the black and magenta regions are set to be the same. However, since the transmittance and reflectance of the optical element are actually different, if the light amount of the light source is the same, the photoconductor The amount of light reaching the beam will be different. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 6, when the different photoconductor surfaces are scanned, the light amounts of the beams reaching the different photoconductor surfaces can be made equal by making the set light amounts different from each other.
The plurality of beams emitted from the plurality of
In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to provide a pitch adjusting means for adjusting the pitch in the sub-scanning direction between the light beam splitting element and the deflecting means.

By adopting such a configuration, a plurality of optical characteristics (thickening the beam waist diameter, reducing beam waist position deviation, and beam spot position deviation) can be secured simultaneously, and the cylindrical lens 5 is decentered around the optical axis. By making it adjustable, the scanning line interval in the sub-scanning direction can be set optimally.
Further, the surface of the
FIG. 8 is a diagram for explaining an actual adjustment method. FIG. 8A is a diagram illustrating one-side adjustment, and FIG. 8B is a diagram illustrating both-side adjustment. The cylindrical lens 5 is held by a jig, and the cylindrical lens 5 is moved in the direction to be adjusted (here, the position in the optical axis direction, the eccentricity around the axis parallel to the optical axis, the position in the sub-scanning direction). Thereafter, the intermediate member 21 to which the ultraviolet curable resin is applied is pressed against the cylindrical lens 5 and the housing, and ultraviolet rays are irradiated to fix the cylindrical lens. With such a configuration, adjustment in a plurality of directions can be easily performed with a simple structure. Here, by making the intermediate member 21 transparent, fixing with an ultraviolet curable resin becomes easier. Although it is possible to hold the optical element by using one
Usually, a semiconductor laser used in an image forming apparatus performs automatic light amount control (hereinafter referred to as APC) to stabilize light output. APC is a system in which the light output of a semiconductor laser is monitored by a light receiving element, and the forward current of the semiconductor laser is controlled to a desired value by a detection signal of a light receiving current proportional to the light output of the semiconductor laser.
When the semiconductor laser is an edge emitting semiconductor laser, the light receiving element often uses a photodiode (PD) monitor that monitors the light emitted in the direction opposite to the direction emitted toward the coupling lens. In addition, when extra ghost light is incident, the amount of light detected by the light receiving element increases.
For example, when the incident angle of the beam to the upper reflecting mirror is 0 °, the reflecting surface of the reflecting mirror faces the light source direction. When APC is performed at this position, the reflected beam returns to the light source and receives light. The amount of light detected by the element increases. Therefore, the PD monitor is set not to perform APC when the incident angle is 0 °. By adopting this configuration, it is possible to output an image with an appropriate density and with little density unevenness.
Next, an arrangement example of the synchronization detection means will be described. As shown in FIG. 9, in synchronization detection, on the side opposite to the light source (incident light x side), it is possible to detect scanning light by placing a
In place of the above method, it is also possible to use an APC light receiving element and perform synchronous detection using the light output of the light receiving element when the incident angle of the beam to the reflecting mirror is 0 °.
Thus, by performing synchronous detection with the light receiving element for APC, the number of parts can be further reduced and a cost reduction effect can be expected.
FIG. 10 is a timing chart of the
Here, the synchronization detection needs to be performed before the start of each image. At the start of the Y image, the luminous flux is directed to the opposite side of the light source. Therefore, the synchronization detection sensor is disposed in front of the Y image writing start position. Is turned on and synchronization detection is performed by the synchronization sensor.
The image start timing of K is determined by the return light incident on the APC_PD. The APC_PD signal is always output while the light source is lit, but at the timing of the return light, the light beam reflected by the
In addition, although APC is inserted after the Y image, this timing may of course be after the K image.
The above technique is naturally effective even when an integrated surface emitting laser is used as a light source. For example, when a 40 channel surface emitting laser is used, a beam of four colors and 40 channels can be obtained with two light sources. The cost of the light source can be reduced while maintaining the high speed of 40 beam writing.
