Abstract

  A cosmetic jar (2) comprising a non-circular container body (4) and a cap closure (14) is provided. The container body (4) features a closed end (6) defined by a bottom panel (8) and an open end defined by a mouth (12). The bottom panel (8) on the outer surface is provided with crescent-shaped symmetrically arranged protruding legs (66). The crescent shaped depressions (24, 26) allow the jars to be stacked in a sufficiently stable state. The domed (curved) roof panel (20) distributes the force more evenly along the cap closure (14) (from the stacked bottles). Description

  The present invention relates to a wide-mouthed bottle having a dome-shaped lid and structured to be stacked up and down.

  Usually, the term “wide-mouth bottle” refers to a low-mouthed wide-mouth container. In the cosmetic industry, jars are the packaging of choice for cold cream and petrolatum. In fact, vaseline jars sold under the trademark VASELINE or VASELINOS are the main cosmetic products of jars. Since these packages are relatively low in height, the merchant needs to stack the jars up and down in order to effectively use the shelf space in the store. The ability to stack is also a desirable feature when transferring these packages from the manufacturer to the retail store.

  Due to environmental concerns and economic aspects, it is necessary to make lightweight packages. Desirably, excess plastic should be removed from the packaging. Typically, wide-mouth bottles must be stackable to save space. A certain amount of plastic is required to make the jar wall sufficiently sturdy for stacking.

  The inventor has found that a curved (dome-shaped) cap distributes the force more evenly. Little downward force is generated. Thus, a jar can be constructed with a thinner wall than would normally be required for a jar with a flat cap. Of course, the problem with curved surfaces is that the object does not easily stay stable on it. Curvature causes stability problems.

US Pat. No. 6,412,634

  US Pat. No. 6,412,634 (Telesca et al.) Discloses a push-up dome-shaped withdrawal container for wet paper towels. There is a dome-shaped platform that coincides with the dome-shaped lid around the inside of the hole for drawing out the wet paper towel. Dedicated plug seals are described to ensure a tight fit between the lid and the extraction hole. The focus of the present invention is to provide a jar with a lid having a curved top surface that allows a second similar jar to be stably positioned over the first jar. A second object of certain embodiments according to the present invention is to provide a suitable sealing system for jars with curves.

  The inventor has found that slip can be prevented by using a pair of crescent shaped depressions (curved grooves). The depressions not only prevent the stacked wide-mouthed bottles from sliding off from the other wide-mouthed bottle roof panel, but also prevent them from falling sideways. The crescent shape of the present invention ensures that bi-directional instability on the cap closure can be minimized.
