Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a printing system including a higher-level device provided with an application program and a printing device that prints print data transmitted from the higher-level device.
Conventionally, a heat-fixing type printing apparatus has a power saving function, and stops supplying power to a heat fixing unit when a predetermined time has elapsed since printing data from a host device is not transmitted. Power consumption is reduced.
Further, since the power consumption of the heat fixing device in the heat fixing type printing apparatus is enormous, there is a risk of occurrence of an abnormality. Therefore,
However, in the image forming apparatus disclosed in
In order to solve the above problems, the present invention has the following configuration.
The present invention is a printing system comprising a host device having an application program for performing printing, and a printing device having a power saving function and printing print data transmitted from the host device. Includes a generation unit that generates a print preparation command in response to the state transition of the application program of the host device before the print data is transmitted from the host device to the printer. Preprocessing means for performing preprocessing for canceling the power function and immediately starting printing is provided, and the preprocessing means is executed when the print preparation command is transmitted to the printing apparatus.
According to the present invention, when an application is started or a screen transition is made in the host device, the printing device sends a print preparation command of print specifications accordingly to the printer, so that the printer can send print data from the host device before sending print data. Since preprocessing such as warm-up of the heat fixing device or clogging elimination operation of the print head can be completed, printing can be started as soon as print data is transmitted.
Embodiments of the present invention will be described below. Here, a printing apparatus is applied as the image forming apparatus, and a computer is applied as the host apparatus.

According to the present invention, since it is possible to set the heat fixing device to an appropriate temperature according to the printing specifications in advance before starting printing, conventionally, printing starts when print data is transmitted in a power saving state. By comparing the time until the time T1, the time T1 or T2 can be shortened.

As described above, according to the first embodiment, when an application selected by the computer is activated, a print preparation command is transmitted to the printing apparatus depending on whether the selected application performs color printing or monochrome printing. Therefore, when the computer transmits the print data, the thermal fixing unit of the printing apparatus is already set to an optimum temperature for color printing or monochrome printing, so that printing can be started immediately after the print data is transmitted.
In the first embodiment, color printing and monochrome printing have been described as the temperature setting of the heat fixing device. However, for example, the temperature setting of the heat fixing device can be varied according to the thickness of the printing paper, the material of the printing paper, and the like. It doesn't matter if you do.
In the first embodiment, the case where two transitionable applications are selected in the window business application selection has been described. For example, as a modified example of the first embodiment, a plurality of applications are activated at startup when a plurality of applications are activated. Monitoring may be performed constantly, and when the active application is switched, a print preparation command indicating the setting for color printing or monochrome printing may be transmitted accordingly. The active application can be monitored by using the identifier of the WINDOWS (registered trademark) execution application.
In the second embodiment, when a plurality of screen transitions are possible in the running application, a print preparation command is sent to the printing apparatus each time the screen is switched to color printing or monochrome printing depending on the transitioned screen, so that the computer prints. When the data is transmitted, the thermal fixing unit of the printing apparatus is already set to the optimum temperature for color printing or monochrome printing, so that printing can be started immediately after the printing data is transmitted. The configuration is the same as in the first embodiment, and a description thereof will be omitted.
