Abstract
Description
本発明は、非水系電池(非水系電解質を備えた電池、例えばリチウムイオン電池)から有価物を回収する技術に関する。より具体的には、有価物の回収に適した構成を有する電極、該電極を用いて構築された非水系電池、ならびに該電池から有価物を回収する際の処理方法に関する。 The present invention relates to a technique for recovering valuable materials from a non-aqueous battery (a battery including a non-aqueous electrolyte, for example, a lithium ion battery). More specifically, the present invention relates to an electrode having a configuration suitable for collecting valuable materials, a non-aqueous battery constructed using the electrode, and a treatment method for collecting valuable materials from the battery.
2. Description of the Related Art An electrode having a configuration in which a material that can release a chemical species that functions as a charge carrier is held in a current collector (typically in a sheet form) is known. An example of this type of electrode is an electrode for a secondary battery having a configuration in which a material (active material) capable of reversibly occluding and releasing the chemical species is held in a metal member. Such an electrode can be preferably used as a component of a lithium ion battery that is charged and discharged by lithium ions traveling back and forth through an electrolyte (typically a nonaqueous electrolyte) interposed between the counter electrode and the counter electrode. As a typical method for holding the active material on the current collector, a paste or slurry composition (active material composition) in which the powder of the active material is dispersed in an appropriate liquid medium is applied to the current collector. Examples thereof include a method of forming an active material-based layer (active material layer). The active material composition used here includes the above-mentioned medium (dispersion medium such as active material powder) from the viewpoints of reducing environmental impact, reducing material costs, simplifying equipment, reducing waste, and improving handling properties. ) Is preferably an aqueous solvent.
However, depending on the content of the active material, the use of an aqueous composition may cause problems such as a decrease in battery capacity or a decrease in discharge characteristics due to an increase in initial internal resistance. These can be attributed to the reaction between the active material contained in the composition and water. For example, when using a lithium transition metal oxide such as a lithium nickel oxide (referring to an oxide containing lithium and one or more transition metal elements as constituent metal elements; the same shall apply hereinafter) as the positive electrode active material, The exchange reaction between protons and lithium ions occurs on the surface of the positive electrode active material dispersed in the aqueous solvent, and as a result, the pH of the aqueous active material composition can be high (ie, alkaline). When such a high pH aqueous active material composition is applied to a positive electrode current collector (for example, made of aluminum), a compound (for example, oxide or hydroxide) having high electrical resistance is easily generated on the surface of the current collector. May be. The generation of such a high electrical resistance compound (hereinafter also referred to as a high resistance substance) can be a factor of an increase in the initial internal resistance of the battery (and a factor that hinders high output). In this regard, in the technique described in
On the other hand, in order to effectively use resources and reduce raw material costs, various techniques for collecting valuable materials from used batteries have been studied. For example, when collecting the member alone (that is, in a state separated from other electrode constituent materials) from an electrode having a configuration in which an active material layer is held on a metal current collecting member (metal member), this recovery is performed. A technique for performing operations more efficiently or with reduced environmental load is desired. A secondary battery (for example, a lithium ion battery) used as a power source for a vehicle is generally provided with a large-area electrode and is typically used in the form of an assembled battery in which a plurality of batteries are connected. Therefore, the demand for the above technology is particularly large. In general, an electrode of a type in which an active material layer formed from a water-based active material composition is held by a metal current collector member is attached to the surface of the member by an treatment using water (here, an active material layer). It is suitable for separating the metal member and recovering the metal member alone. Therefore, an aqueous active material composition is preferable because it has a low environmental impact not only when the electrode is manufactured but also when valuable materials are recovered from the electrode.
However, in an electrode provided with an active material layer using an aqueous composition, a conductive layer (intermediate film for preventing the generation of a high-resistance material) is provided between the active material layer and the metal current collector for the purpose of improving battery performance. ) Is used, the above treatment of separating the deposits from the surface of the current collecting member using water may not function sufficiently. As a result, in a battery equipped with an electrode having such a configuration, the operation of recovering valuable materials (a metal member used as a current collecting member, a transition metal element that is a constituent element of the active material) may be complicated.
本発明の目的は、金属製集電部材の表面に設けられた導電性中間膜を介して該部材に活物質層が保持された構成の電極であって、有価物の回収に適した電極を提供することである。本発明の他の目的は、かかる電極を備えた電池を提供することである。さらに他の目的は、上記電池から有価物を効率よく回収するための処理方法を提供することである。 An object of the present invention is an electrode having a structure in which an active material layer is held on a member through a conductive intermediate film provided on the surface of a metal current collecting member, and an electrode suitable for recovery of valuable materials. Is to provide. Another object of the present invention is to provide a battery comprising such an electrode. Still another object is to provide a processing method for efficiently recovering valuable materials from the battery.
本発明者は、金属製集電部材と活物質層との間に導電性中間膜が介在された電極において、該中間膜の構成成分として特定の水溶性有機高分子材料を用いることにより上記課題を解決し得ることを見出して本発明を完成した。 The inventor of the present invention uses the specific water-soluble organic polymer material as a constituent component of the intermediate film in an electrode in which a conductive intermediate film is interposed between the metal current collector and the active material layer. As a result, the present invention was completed.
すなわち、本発明によると、電池用の電極が提供される。その電極は、金属製の集電部材と、該部材の表面に設けられた導電性中間膜と、該中間膜を介して前記集電部材に保持された活物質層とを備える。前記中間膜は、導電材粉末(例えばカーボン粉末)を含む。また、該中間膜は、以下の水溶性セルロース誘導体:
(1)置換度(DS)が2以上のカルボキシメチルセルロース;
(2)置換モル数(MS)が2以上のヒドロキシエチルセルロース;および、
(3)置換モル数(MS)が2以上のヒドロキシプロピルセルロース;
から選択される一種または二種以上をさらに含む。
That is, according to the present invention, an electrode for a battery is provided. The electrode includes a metal current collecting member, a conductive intermediate film provided on the surface of the member, and an active material layer held on the current collecting member via the intermediate film. The intermediate film includes conductive material powder (for example, carbon powder). In addition, the interlayer film has the following water-soluble cellulose derivative:
(1) Carboxymethylcellulose having a degree of substitution (DS) of 2 or more;
(2) hydroxyethyl cellulose having a substitution mole number (MS) of 2 or more; and
(3) Hydroxypropyl cellulose having a substitution mole number (MS) of 2 or more;
1 type or 2 types or more selected from are further included.
Since the electrode having such a configuration uses a water-soluble material (that is, the water-soluble cellulose derivative) as a binder for the interlayer film, the electrode is treated with water (for example, immersed in water and subjected to ultrasonic vibration). By using the hydrophilicity of the water-soluble cellulose derivative, the adhesive strength between the intermediate film and the current collecting substrate is reduced, and the intermediate film and the active material layer provided via the film are reduced. It can be effectively separated from the surface of the current collecting member (typically a sheet-like metal member such as an aluminum foil). This is suitable for efficiently recovering valuable materials from the electrode while suppressing environmental load. That is, the electrode is excellent in the recoverability of valuable materials (which can also be grasped as the recyclability of the electrode). In addition, the water-soluble cellulose derivatives (1) to (3) above show relatively good alkali resistance, and are, for example, more alkaline (particularly a high pH of 12 or more) than cellulose derivatives having lower DS or MS values. The rate of dissolution in water is slower. Therefore, even if the active material layer is formed, for example, by applying and drying an alkaline aqueous active material composition from above the intermediate film, the intermediate film directly connects the composition and the current collecting member. Since the contact can be appropriately prevented, the production of the high-resistance substance can be highly suppressed. In consideration of the effect of suppressing the generation of such a high resistance substance and battery performance, the thickness of the intermediate film is preferably about 3 μm to 10 μm, for example. Moreover, the intermediate film whose ratio of the said cellulose derivative to the total amount of the said electroconductive powder and the said cellulose derivative is about 1.5-15 mass% on the solid content basis is preferable.
なお、本明細書において「電池」とは、電気エネルギーを取り出し可能な蓄電デバイス一般を指す用語であって、二次電池(リチウムイオン電池、金属リチウム二次電池、ニッケル水素電池、ニッケルカドミウム電池等のいわゆる蓄電池ならびに電気二重層キャパシタ等の蓄電素子を包含する。)および一次電池を含む概念である。 In the present specification, the “battery” is a term that generally indicates an electricity storage device that can take out electric energy, and is a secondary battery (a lithium ion battery, a metal lithium secondary battery, a nickel hydrogen battery, a nickel cadmium battery, etc. And so-called storage batteries and electric storage elements such as electric double layer capacitors.) And primary batteries.
In a preferred embodiment, the active material layer is a composition for forming an aqueous active material (typically an active material powder and a water-soluble polymer that can function as a binder) from above the intermediate film to the current collecting member. And a conductive material powder added as necessary.). An electrode including an active material layer formed from such a composition is preferable because it is suitable for recovering valuable materials by using treatment with water. For example, the active material layer constituting material can be dispersed in water by immersing the electrode in water and applying ultrasonic vibration. This is convenient when, for example, the active material layer constituent material is separated from the current collecting member and further subjected to a treatment such as purification as necessary. In addition, the use of the water-based active material composition reduces the raw material cost of the composition, reduces the cost of facilities for handling (manufacturing, transporting, using, etc.) the composition, manufacturing the composition, and the active material. It is also preferable from the viewpoint of reducing the environmental load accompanying the formation of the layer.
A preferred embodiment of the technology disclosed herein is an electrode using a lithium transition metal oxide as the active material. For example, it can be preferably applied to an electrode (typically a positive electrode) using a lithium transition metal oxide whose main transition metal element constituting the oxide is any of nickel, cobalt, and manganese as an active material. Such a compound can exhibit excellent characteristics as an electrode active material of a lithium ion battery, but when the aqueous active material composition is prepared, the liquidity of the composition is easily shifted to alkaline. Therefore, it is particularly meaningful to adopt the above configuration in which the active material layer is formed via the intermediate film.
かかる構成の電極は、リチウムイオン電池その他の非水系電池(典型的には二次電池)の構成要素として好ましく使用され得る。特に、自動車等の車両に搭載されるモーター(電動機)の電源として利用されるリチウムイオン電池用の正極として好適である。したがって、本発明によると、ここに開示されるいずれかの電極を備えた非水系電池(例えば、上記電極を正極に用いて構築されたリチウムイオン電池)が提供される。また、かかる非水系電池を動力源として備えた車両が提供される。 The electrode having such a configuration can be preferably used as a component of a lithium ion battery or other nonaqueous battery (typically a secondary battery). 前記集電部材の表面から前記中間膜を離れさせるには、例えば、前記電極を水に浸漬した状態で該電極に超音波振動を付与するとよい。水溶性ポリマーを結着剤に用いてなる活物質層を備えた電極が処理対象である場合には、上記超音波振動を利用して活物質層構成材料を水中に分散させ得ることから、かかる態様を採用することが特に好ましい。 In order to separate the intermediate film from the surface of the current collecting member, for example, ultrasonic vibration may be applied to the electrode while the electrode is immersed in water. Note that matters other than matters specifically mentioned in the present specification and necessary for the implementation of the present invention can be grasped as design matters of those skilled in the art based on the prior art in this field. The present invention can be carried out based on the contents disclosed in this specification and common technical knowledge in the field.
The technique disclosed here is, for example, an electrode having a configuration in which an active material layer is held on a current collecting member, and a liquid active material composition is used when an aqueous active material composition is used to form the active material layer. Is preferably applied to various electrodes provided with an active material that tends to be alkaline (typically, an active material that can be brought into contact with water and shift its liquidity to the alkali side), a battery including the electrode, and a treatment thereof. obtain. Representative examples of the active material include lithium transition metal oxides such as lithium nickel oxide, lithium cobalt oxide, and lithium manganese oxide.
In the case where the material of the metal part (current collector base material) of the current collector constituting the electrode is a material capable of generating a compound exhibiting high electrical resistance on the surface by contacting with the alkaline aqueous composition The effects of applying the technology disclosed herein can be particularly well exhibited. Typical examples of such materials include Al materials such as aluminum (Al) and alloys containing aluminum as a main component (Al alloy). Other examples include amphoteric metals such as zinc (Zn) and tin (Sn), and alloys based on any of these metals.
The shape of the current collecting member constituting the electrode is not particularly limited because it may vary depending on the shape of a battery (typically a secondary battery) constructed using the electrode, and is not particularly limited, rod-shaped, plate-shaped, sheet-shaped It can be in various shapes such as a foil shape and a mesh shape. The technique disclosed here can be preferably applied to an electrode using a sheet-like or foil-like current collecting member, for example. As a preferred embodiment of a battery constructed using such an electrode, a battery including an electrode body (rolled electrode body) formed by winding a sheet-like positive electrode and a negative electrode together with a sheet-like separator is typically mentioned. The outer shape of the battery is not particularly limited, and may be, for example, a rectangular parallelepiped shape, a flat shape, a cylindrical shape, or the like.
ここに開示される技術が好ましく適用される電極の典型例として、リチウム遷移金属酸化物を活物質とし、該活物質を主成分とする活物質層が導電性中間膜を介してAl材料製の集電部材に保持された構成のリチウムイオン電池用正極が挙げられる。以下、主としてリチウムイオン電池用正極、該正極を用いてなるリチウムイオン電池およびその処理に適用する場合を例として本発明をより詳しく説明するが、本発明の適用対象をかかる電極または電池に限定する意図ではない。 As a typical example of an electrode to which the technology disclosed herein is preferably applied, a lithium transition metal oxide is used as an active material, and an active material layer containing the active material as a main component is made of an Al material through a conductive intermediate film. Examples include a positive electrode for a lithium ion battery having a configuration held by a current collecting member. Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail by taking as an example mainly a positive electrode for a lithium ion battery, a lithium ion battery using the positive electrode, and a treatment thereof, but the scope of application of the present invention is limited to such an electrode or battery. Not intended.
As a lithium transition metal oxide (typically particulate) as an active material of the positive electrode for lithium ion batteries (main component of the active material layer), it has a layered structure that can function as a positive electrode active material of this type of lithium ion battery. An oxide or an oxide having a spinel structure can be appropriately selected and used. For example, it is preferable to use one or more lithium transition metal oxides selected from lithium nickel oxides, lithium cobalt oxides, and lithium manganese oxides. A particularly preferable application target of the technology disclosed herein is a positive electrode that uses a lithium nickel-based oxide as a positive electrode active material (typically, the positive electrode active material substantially consists of a lithium nickel-based oxide). . Lithium nickel oxide is more liable to elute when dispersed in an aqueous solvent than lithium cobalt oxide or lithium manganese oxide (therefore, the liquidity of the aqueous active material composition is set to the alkali side). The effect of shifting is strong). Therefore, in the production of an electrode using a lithium nickel-based oxide as the positive electrode active material, the effect of applying the method disclosed herein can be exhibited particularly well.
Here, the “lithium nickel oxide” refers to an oxide having Li and Ni as constituent metal elements, and one or more metal elements other than Li and Ni (that is, other than Li and Ni). A composite containing transition metal element and / or typical metal element) in a proportion smaller than Ni (in terms of the number of atoms; in the case where two or more metal elements other than Li and Ni are contained, both of them are less proportion than Ni) It is meant to include oxides. The metal element is selected from the group consisting of, for example, Co, Al, Mn, Cr, Fe, V, Mg, Ti, Zr, Nb, Mo, W, copper, Zn, Ga, In, Sn, La, and Ce. Or one or more elements. Similarly, the term “lithium cobalt oxide” is meant to include a composite oxide containing one or more metal elements other than Li and Co in a proportion smaller than Co. “Oxide” is meant to include complex oxides containing, in addition to Li and Mn, one or more other metal elements in a smaller proportion than Mn.
このようなリチウム遷移金属酸化物(典型的には粒子状)としては、例えば、従来公知の方法で調製・提供されるリチウム遷移金属酸化物粉末(以下、活物質粉末ということもある。)をそのまま使用することができる。例えば、平均粒径が凡そ1μm〜30μm(典型的には凡そ2μm〜20μm)の範囲にある二次粒子によって実質的に構成されたリチウム遷移金属酸化物粉末を好ましく採用することができる。 As such a lithium transition metal oxide (typically in a particulate form), for example, a lithium transition metal oxide powder (hereinafter sometimes referred to as an active material powder) prepared and provided by a conventionally known method is used. It can be used as it is. For example, a lithium transition metal oxide powder substantially composed of secondary particles having an average particle diameter in the range of about 1 μm to 30 μm (typically about 2 μm to 20 μm) can be preferably used.
The active material composition used in the method disclosed herein can be an aqueous composition in which such an active material is dispersed in an aqueous solvent. Moreover, the active material layer of the electrode disclosed here may be formed using such an aqueous composition. Here, the “aqueous solvent” is a concept indicating water or a mixed solvent mainly composed of water. As the solvent other than water constituting the mixed solvent, one or more organic solvents (lower alcohol, lower ketone, etc.) that can be uniformly mixed with water can be appropriately selected and used. For example, it is preferable to use an aqueous solvent in which about 80% by mass or more (more preferably about 90% by mass or more, more preferably about 95% by mass or more) of the aqueous solvent is water. A particularly preferred example is an aqueous solvent substantially consisting of water. Although not particularly limited, the solid content concentration of the active material composition (nonvolatile content, that is, the ratio of the active material layer forming component) can be, for example, about 40 to 60% by mass.
The active material composition typically contains a conductive material for enhancing the conductivity of the active material layer formed from the composition, in addition to the active material and the aqueous solvent. As such a conductive material, for example, a carbon material such as carbon powder or carbon fiber is preferably used. Examples of the carbon powder include various carbon blacks such as acetylene black, furnace black, and ketjen black, and graphite powders such as scaly graphite. For example, a carbon material (for example, a granular carbon material such as acetylene black) having an average particle size of constituent particles (typically primary particles) in the range of about 10 nm to 200 nm (for example, about 20 nm to 100 nm) is preferably used. Can do. Alternatively, conductive metal powder such as nickel powder may be used. Such a conductive material may be used alone or in combination of two or more.
In addition, the active material composition requires one or more materials that can be blended in a composition (typically an aqueous composition) used for forming an active material layer in the production of a general battery electrode. It can be contained accordingly. Examples of such materials include various polymer materials that can function as a binder for the active material. The use of polymeric materials that dissolve or disperse in water is preferred. For example, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC; typically sodium salt), hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC), methyl cellulose (MC), cellulose acetate phthalate (CAP), hydroxy Examples thereof include cellulose derivatives such as propylmethylcellulose (HPMC) and hydroxypropylmethylcellulose phthalate (HPMCP); polyvinyl alcohol (PVA); Among these, cellulose derivatives (for example, CMC) can be preferably used. Examples of water-dispersible polymer materials include polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), tetrafluoroethylene-perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether copolymer (PFA), tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer (FEP), and ethylene. -Rubbers such as fluororesin such as tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (ETFE), vinyl acetate copolymer, styrene butadiene block copolymer (SBR), acrylic acid modified SBR resin (SBR latex), and gum arabic Illustrated. Of these, fluorine resins such as PTFE can be preferably used. Such polymer material may be used individually by 1 type, and may be used in combination of 2 or more type.
The proportion of the active material in the entire active material layer is preferably about 50% by mass or more (typically 50 to 95% by mass), and more preferably about 75 to 90% by mass. In the active material layer having a composition containing a conductive material, the proportion of the conductive material in the active material layer can be, for example, about 3 to 25% by mass, and preferably about 3 to 15% by mass. In this case, the proportion of the active material in the active material layer is suitably about 80 to 95% by mass (for example, 85 to 95% by mass). In addition, in a composition containing an active material layer forming component (for example, a polymer material) other than the active material and the conductive material, these optional components (the total amount when two or more optional components are included) are the active material layer It is preferable that the ratio of the total component to be formed is about 7% by mass or less, more preferably about 5% by mass or less (for example, about 1 to 5% by mass). An active material layer having a composition containing at least a water-soluble polymer (such as a cellulose derivative) as the optional component is preferable.
The technology disclosed herein can be preferably applied to an electrode whose active material is mainly a lithium nickel oxide and a battery including the electrode. Since active materials for batteries used as power sources for vehicles (for example, hybrid vehicles) are used in large quantities, such lithium transition metal oxides should be adopted from the viewpoint of material cost, supply stability, recyclability, etc. Is particularly significant. As the lithium nickel oxide, those represented by the general formulas LiNiO 2 , LiNi (1-x) Co x O 2 , LiNi (1-xy) Co x Al y O 2, and the like can be used. Such a lithium nickel oxide is, for example, a lithium transition metal hydroxide corresponding to the composition of the target product, that is, LiNi (OH) 2 , LiNi (1-x) Co x (OH) 2 , LiNi (1- x-y) and Co x Al y (OH) 2 or the like, by mixing lithium hydroxide (LiOH or LiOH · H 2 O) the precursor is prepared, the high-temperature heat treatment furnace of this precursor oxidizing atmosphere Can be synthesized by heating reaction.
When preparing such a lithium transition metal oxide precursor, Li is slightly in excess of the theoretical reaction ratio with respect to the total amount of metal elements other than Li (for example, the total amount (number of moles) of metal elements other than Li. 1 so that the amount of Li is about 1.02 to 1.15). Thereby, for example, when the precursor is prepared (granulated) in the form of particles, the Li element can be more uniformly diffused from the surface of the particles to the core. In a preferred embodiment, the precursor is heated under an oxidizing atmosphere while controlling the synthesis conditions to synthesize a lithium transition metal oxide, which is then crushed in a dry atmosphere to an appropriate size (for example, The active material powder is obtained by sizing the particles to an average particle size of about 5 to 30 μm. The obtained active material powder is preferably sealed and stored. Lithium transition metal oxides synthesized using excessive Li in this way have better battery characteristics (for example, low temperature output characteristics, compared to oxides obtained using theoretical reaction ratio of Li, Charge capacity / discharge characteristics such as discharge capacity and high rate charge characteristics).
一方、上述したように、リチウム遷移金属酸化物(例えばニッケル系酸化物)が水系溶媒に分散した水系活物質組成物はアルカリ性となりやすい。かかる組成物をAl製の集電部材に直接塗布すると、該集電部材を構成するAlが水酸化物イオン(OH−)および水に接触することにより、下記式(I)で示す反応が進行し得る。
2Al+LiOH+4H2O→Al(OH)3+LiAlO2+3H2↑ (I)
上記反応が進行すると、該反応により生じた高抵抗物質(ここではAl(OH)3、LiAlO2)によって集電部材の表面に抵抗層が形成され得る。また、上記反応により生じた水素ガスは、活物質層中に気泡跡を残して該活物質層の密度を低下させることにより、電池特性を低下させる要因となり得る。
On the other hand, as described above, an aqueous active material composition in which a lithium transition metal oxide (for example, nickel-based oxide) is dispersed in an aqueous solvent tends to be alkaline. When such a composition is directly applied to a current collector made of Al, the reaction represented by the following formula (I) proceeds when Al constituting the current collector contacts with hydroxide ions (OH − ) and water. Can do.
2Al + LiOH + 4H 2 O → Al (OH) 3 + LiAlO 2 + 3H 2 ↑ (I)
When the reaction proceeds, a resistance layer may be formed on the surface of the current collecting member by the high resistance material (here, Al (OH) 3 , LiAlO 2 ) generated by the reaction. In addition, the hydrogen gas generated by the above reaction can be a factor that deteriorates battery characteristics by leaving bubble marks in the active material layer and reducing the density of the active material layer.
The lithium transition metal oxide synthesized under the Li-rich condition as described above is used for forming an aqueous active material layer prepared using the oxide, compared with the lithium transition metal oxide synthesized at a theoretical reaction ratio. The pH of the composition tends to be high. This is considered to be due to the excessive use of Li eluting into water. For example, the pH of an aqueous composition prepared using a lithium nickel oxide synthesized under Li-rich conditions is often 10 or more. In particular, in an oxide synthesized using Li having a theoretical reaction ratio of 1.05 times or more (for example, about 1.05 to 1.15 times) Li, the aqueous composition becomes strongly alkaline with a pH of 12 or more. Cheap. Therefore, when a lithium transition metal oxide synthesized under Li-rich conditions is used in the manufacture of a battery having an electrode using an aqueous active material composition, the reaction (I) is particularly likely to occur. Therefore, the desired battery performance improvement effect tends to be difficult to be realized. In other words, the lithium transition metal oxide synthesized under Li-rich conditions has been difficult to apply to the production of an electrode using an aqueous active material composition.
In order to prevent such an event, the electrode disclosed herein has a configuration in which a conductive intermediate film (a conductive film covering the surface of the current collecting member) is interposed between the current collecting member and the active material layer. The intermediate film includes a conductive powder that secures electrical conduction between the current collecting member and the active material layer, and a binder that binds the powder to form a film, and includes a current collecting member and water. It has a function of preventing direct contact for at least a certain period of time. The electrode having such a structure is formed, for example, by forming the conductive intermediate film on the surface of the current collecting base material and applying an aqueous active material composition from the intermediate film to form an active material layer. It can be preferably manufactured.
As the conductive powder constituting the intermediate film, for example, a carbon material such as carbon powder or carbon fiber is preferably used. Alternatively, conductive metal powder such as nickel powder may be used. Among these, only 1 type may be used and 2 or more types may be used together. Examples of the carbon powder include various carbon blacks such as acetylene black, furnace black, and ketjen black, and graphite powders such as scaly graphite. Of these, acetylene black can be preferably employed. For example, it is preferable to use a carbon material (for example, a granular carbon material such as acetylene black) in which the average particle size of constituent particles (typically primary particles) is in the range of about 10 nm to 200 nm (for example, about 20 nm to 100 nm).
In the technology disclosed herein, a water-soluble cellulose derivative is used as a binder constituting the interlayer film. Examples of such cellulose derivatives include CMC (typically sodium salt; the same applies hereinafter), HEC, HPC, MC, CAP, HPMC, HPMCP, and the like, and preferred examples include CMC, HEC, and HPC. It is preferable to use a water-soluble cellulose derivative having high resistance to alkali (stability). For example, a water-soluble cellulose derivative suitable for forming a film exhibiting relatively high resistance to water having a pH of 10 or more (and more preferably
(1) CMC having a substitution degree of 2 or more. Here, “degree of substitution (DS)” refers to the number of OH groups carboxylmethylated among the three OH groups on the glucose ring of cellulose. This is sometimes called the degree of etherification. A CMC having a DS of 2 or more (for example, 2.2 to 2.6) is preferable because it has excellent hydrophilicity and higher alkali resistance than a CMC having a smaller DS. For example, it exhibits good resistance to strongly alkaline water having a pH of 12 or more (for example, about pH 13). In general, the majority of CMCs on the market are in the range of DS 0.6 to 1.0, and what is called a high DS grade is about 1.6. As a commercial product of CMC having a DS of 2 or more, trade name “Ernest Gum” manufactured by Daicel Chemical Industries, Ltd. may be mentioned.
(2) HEC having 2 or more substituted moles. Here, the “number of moles of substitution (MS)” refers to the average number of moles of hydroxyethyl groups added per glucose unit of cellulose. Thus, HEC in which 2 mol or more of hydroxyethyl group is added per glucose unit of cellulose is preferable because it is excellent in hydrophilicity and has higher alkali resistance than HEC with smaller MS. For example, it exhibits good resistance to strongly alkaline water having a pH of 12 or more (for example, about pH 13). Although the upper limit of MS is not particularly limited, HEC having MS of 3 or less (for example, 2 to 2.5) can be preferably employed from the viewpoint of availability. Examples of commercial products of HEC having an MS of 2 or more include trade name (grade name) “LDPR” manufactured by Nippon Paper Chemical Co., Ltd., trade name (grade name) “SP600” manufactured by Daicel Chemical Industries, and the like.
(3) HPC having 2 or more substituted moles. Here, the “number of substituted moles (MS)” means the average number of moles of hydroxypropyl groups added per glucose unit of cellulose. Thus, HPC in which 2 mol or more of hydroxypropyl group is added per glucose unit of cellulose is preferable because it is excellent in hydrophilicity and has higher alkali resistance than HPC with smaller MS. For example, it exhibits good resistance to strongly alkaline water having a pH of 12 or more (for example, about pH 13). Although the upper limit of MS is not specifically limited, HPC with MS of 3 or less (for example, 2-2.5) can be preferably employ | adopted normally from viewpoints, such as availability. Commercially available products of HPC having an MS of 2 or more include trade names “Kluces Nutra” manufactured by Hercules, USA, “Aero Whip”, and “Selney H” manufactured by Nippon Soda Co., Ltd.
このように耐アルカリ性の高い水溶性セルロース誘導体は、アルカリ性(例えばpH10以上、さらにはpH12以上の強アルカリ性)の水系活物質組成物と集電部材との接触をより長時間に亘って阻止し得る中間膜を形成するのに適している。このことは、該中間膜の上から集電部材に水系活物質組成物を付与して電極を製造する場合の生産性やライン設計の自由度の点において有利である。
As described above, the water-soluble cellulose derivative having high alkali resistance can prevent the contact between the alkaline active material composition (for example,
The water-soluble cellulose derivative having a high alkali resistance can be used as a binder for an alkaline (for example, a strong alkaline having a pH of 10 or more, or even a pH of 12 or more) and an active material layer formed from the composition. It can be preferably adopted. Such cellulose derivatives can be dissolved in a solvent constituting the aqueous active material composition and affect the viscosity of the composition. The cellulose derivatives (1) to (3) above are cellulose derivatives having a lower DS or MS. In comparison, the viscosity of an aqueous solution of the cellulose derivative is less affected by pH (that is, the viscosity is less dependent on pH). More specifically, the degree of viscosity reduction is low in a high pH range (particularly under strong alkaline conditions of
The DS value (degree of etherification) of CMC can be measured, for example, as follows. That is, 1.0 g of a CMC sample (solid matter) to be measured is precisely weighed, wrapped in filter paper, placed in a magnetic crucible, and incinerated at 600 ° C. in air using heating means such as an electric furnace. The sodium compound contained in the ashing residue is dissolved in water, and titrated with a 0.1N sulfuric acid solution using phenolphthalein as an indicator. From the result, the ether degree can be calculated using the following formula. In this calculation formula, A indicates the amount (mL) of 0.1N sulfuric acid solution required for neutralization, and f indicates the titer of 0.1N sulfuric acid.
Degree of etherification = (162 × A × f) / (1000−80 × A × f)
When obtaining the degree of etherification of CMC contained as a component in the conductive intermediate film or active material layer of the electrode, first, the CMC to be measured is separated from other materials. For example, the electrode is immersed in water to extract CMC. At this time, CMC can be efficiently extracted by applying ultrasonic energy. And the solid CMC is obtained by collect | recovering the water which CMC melt | dissolved, and evaporating to dryness. What is necessary is just to measure DS value about this CMC sample similarly to the above. In the case of starting from the state of the battery, for example, the electrode is taken out from the container by a procedure as described later, and the electrolytic solution is washed and removed, so that the electrode having CMC to be measured is separated from other battery components. CMC may be extracted by immersing this electrode in water.
The conductive intermediate film in the technique disclosed herein contains a conductive material powder and a water-soluble cellulose derivative, for example, in a mass ratio (based on solid content) of about 85/15 to 98.5 / 1.5. possible. Usually, the mass ratio (conductive material powder / water-soluble cellulose derivative) is preferably about 90/10 to 97/3. If the mass ratio is too smaller than the above range, it may be difficult to ensure a sufficient conductive path (conductive path) in the intermediate film, and the conductivity of the electrode may tend to decrease. On the other hand, if the mass ratio of the conductive material powder / water-soluble cellulose derivative is too larger than the above range, the water resistance of the intermediate film (in other words, the ability to prevent direct contact between the current collecting substrate and water) decreases. May be a trend.
The intermediate film can contain material components other than the conductive material powder and the water-soluble cellulose derivative as required, as long as the effects of the present invention are not significantly impaired. Examples of such materials include polymer materials other than the above cellulose derivatives. The use of polymeric materials that dissolve or disperse in water is preferred. For example, 1 type, or 2 or more types of the polymer material illustrated as an arbitrary component of an active material composition can be used. The proportion of these optional components (the total amount of these optional components in the case where two or more optional components are included) in the entire intermediate film is preferably about 10% by mass or less (for example, 5% by mass or less). An intermediate film having a composition that does not substantially contain such an optional component may be used.
The intermediate film in the technology disclosed herein typically contains the conductive material powder, a water-soluble cellulose derivative, and optional components used as necessary in an appropriate aqueous solvent (which can dissolve the cellulose derivative). It can be formed by preparing an intermediate film-forming composition by addition and mixing, and applying the composition to the surface of a current collecting substrate. Here, the “aqueous solvent” is a concept indicating water or a mixed solvent mainly composed of water. The solvent other than water constituting the mixed solvent may be one or more of organic solvents (lower alcohol, lower ketone, etc.) that can be uniformly mixed with water. For example, it is preferable to use an aqueous solvent in which about 80% by mass or more (more preferably about 90% by mass or more, more preferably about 95% by mass or more) of the aqueous solvent is water. A particularly preferred example is an aqueous solvent substantially consisting of water.
The solid content concentration of the composition for forming an intermediate film (nonvolatile content, that is, the ratio of the component for forming an intermediate film; hereinafter referred to as “NV”) is not particularly limited, but is, for example, about 1 to 30% by mass (preferably about 1. 5-15% by mass). The viscosity of the composition may be, for example, about 500 to 1500 mPa · s. When the NV or the viscosity is too higher than the above range, the handling property of the composition for forming an intermediate film (for example, coating for applying the composition to a current collecting substrate (particularly, a foil-shaped current collecting substrate)) Etc.) may be easily reduced.
The operation of applying the intermediate film forming composition to the current collecting base material is preferably performed using a conventionally known appropriate coating apparatus (for example, a thin film forming machine such as a slit coater, a die coater, a comma coater, or a gravure coater). It can be carried out. The coating amount of the above composition is not particularly limited, but if it is too small, the water resistance of the intermediate film tends to decrease, and if it is too large, the conductivity of the intermediate film (and thus the electrode) tends to decrease. From the balance between water resistance and conductivity, it is usually appropriate to set the coating amount to about 0.1 to 15 g / m 2 on the basis of the solid content per one side of the current collecting substrate. 10 g / m 2 is preferable. Further, it is preferable to set the coating amount so that the finally formed intermediate film has a thickness of about 1 μm to 20 μm (more preferably about 2 μm to 15 μm, for example, 3 μm to 10 μm).

A carbon powder as a conductive material powder and a 2% by mass aqueous solution of CMC having a DS of 2 or more (for example, 2.4) are prepared (steps S11 and S12). These are mixed in a planetary mixer in such an amount that the mass ratio of carbon powder / CMC aqueous solution is 20/80 to 40/60. Thereby, for example, a uniform paste or slurry-like composition for forming an intermediate film having a viscosity of 800 to 1000 mPa · s is obtained (step S14). On the other hand, a
An aqueous active material composition containing a lithium transition metal oxide powder as a positive electrode active material, a conductive material, a binder, and an aqueous solvent is prepared (step S16). For example, as lithium transition metal oxide powder, lithium synthesized using 1.08 times as many moles of Li as the total number of moles of metal elements other than Li (that is, under Li-rich conditions). Nickel-based oxide is used. Carbon powder is used as the conductive material. As the binder, CMC having a DS of 2 to 3 and PTFE are used. The CMC may be mixed with other materials in the form of, for example, a 1% by mass aqueous solution and the PTFE in the form of an aqueous dispersion (dispersion). 90 parts by mass of the lithium transition metal oxide powder, 10 parts by mass of carbon powder, 1 part by mass of 1% by weight aqueous solution of CMC (based on solid content), and 1 part by mass of PTFE dispersion (based on solid content) A uniform paste-like or slurry-like active material composition is obtained by mixing in a planetary mixer so as to have a composition containing 75 parts by mass of water with respect to 100 parts by mass of these positive electrode active material layer forming components. be able to.

That is, an intermediate film is formed using a solvent-based composition containing a water-insoluble (typically hydrophobic) binder and carbon powder, and an aqueous active material composition is applied from above the intermediate film. In the electrode in which the active material layer is formed, the interface between the intermediate film and the active material layer can be clearly separated and observed. In such an electrode, the adhesion strength at the interface portion between the intermediate film and the active material layer is gradually decreased due to long-term use of the battery, and the internal resistance may easily increase due to the increase in contact resistance.
On the other hand, in an electrode (positive electrode sheet 32) in which an
以下、本発明により提供される電極および該電極を正極に用いてなるリチウムイオン電池の一実施形態につき、図1,2に示す模式図を加えて参照しつつ説明する。
図示されるように、本実施形態に係るリチウムイオン電池10は、金属製(樹脂製またはラミネートフィルム製も好適である。)の筐体12を備えており、この筐体12の中には、長尺シート状の正極シート32および負極シート34を2枚のセパレータシート35とともに扁平形状に捲回して構成された捲回電極体30が収容される。
Hereinafter, an embodiment of an electrode provided by the present invention and a lithium ion battery using the electrode as a positive electrode will be described with reference to the schematic diagrams shown in FIGS.
As shown in the figure, the
The
On the other hand, the

As shown in FIG. 1, the active material composition is not applied to one end portion along the longitudinal direction of the

The electrode according to the present invention (typically the positive electrode) is a lithium transition metal oxide (for example, lithium nickel-based oxide) synthesized under Li-rich conditions, particularly when an aqueous composition is used for forming an active material layer. Even when an active material layer is formed of an aqueous composition using (oxide) as an active material, the intermediate film can suppress the generation of a high-resistance material, and thus can exhibit good conductivity. A lithium ion battery constructed using such an electrode can exhibit excellent performance (output performance, durability, etc.). Therefore, for example, it can be suitably used as a power source for a motor (electric motor) mounted on a vehicle such as an automobile. Such lithium ion batteries may be used in the form of an assembled battery formed by connecting a plurality of them in series and / or in parallel. Therefore, the present invention, as schematically shown in FIG. 9, is a vehicle (typically an automobile, particularly a hybrid automobile, an electric automobile, a fuel) provided with such a lithium ion battery (which may be in the form of an assembled battery) 10 as a power source. An automobile equipped with an electric motor such as a battery car) 1 is provided.
次に、集電部材上に中間膜を介して活物質層が保持された電極および該電極を用いて構築された電池のリサイクル方法の一態様について、図1〜3に示す構成のリチウムイオン電池10を例として説明する。 Next, regarding an embodiment of an electrode in which an active material layer is held on an electricity collecting member via an intermediate film and a method for recycling a battery constructed using the electrode, a lithium ion battery having a configuration shown in FIGS. 10 will be described as an example.

A schematic configuration of the processing apparatus according to the present embodiment is schematically shown in FIG. In general, the
The operation of the
The
The
On the other hand, the constituent material of the

<Alkali resistance>
Various cellulose derivatives having different kinds of substituents and different degrees of substitution were prepared, and the solubility in water having a hydrogen ion concentration (pH) of 1 to 14 was evaluated. Specifically, 8 g of each of cellulose derivative samples A, C, D, and E shown in Table 1 (dried products) were dissolved in 392 g of water at each pH with stirring to prepare a 2% aqueous solution. At this time, the sample was completely dissolved. The time until was measured. The pH was adjusted by adding hydrochloric acid, lithium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide. The obtained result is shown in FIG.
As shown in the figure, the dissolution time of each cellulose derivative sample was the longest around pH 4, and the dissolution time at this time was shorter for HEC and HPC than for CMC. In addition, in the range of pH 3 to 9, there was almost no difference in dissolution time depending on the degree of substitution (CMC DS value). On the other hand, in the range of
According to the knowledge of the present inventor, an aqueous active material composition prepared by using, as an active material, a lithium nickel oxide synthesized using Li having a molar number of 1.05 to 1.15 times the theoretical reaction ratio. The pH of the product is approximately 12 to 13 (for example, in the case of LiNiO 2 , typically pH 12.4 to 12.8). According to the above experimental results, the time (average value) that the film formed using each sample can withstand water of pH 12.4 to 12.8 is 4.5 minutes for sample A and 6.1 for sample D. Minutes, sample E is 5.0 minutes. As a result, when the active material layer is formed by applying and drying the aqueous active material composition having the above pH to the conductive intermediate film using the sample A, D or E as the binder, the composition becomes an intermediate film. If the time from the contact to the end of drying is 3 minutes or less, preferably 2 minutes or less, the high pH water in the active material composition is collected before the intermediate film is completely dissolved. It supports that an active material layer can be formed before reaching the member. On the other hand, when the active material layer is formed by applying and drying the aqueous active material composition having the above pH to the conductive intermediate film using Sample C as the binder, the composition comes into contact with the intermediate film. It is desirable to keep the time from drying to drying to 1 minute or less, preferably 30 seconds or less. This is because when such an active material composition having a high pH is brought into direct contact with an Al current collecting member, electrode performance deteriorates due to generation of a high resistance material such as Al (OH) 3 or generation of H 2 gas. Therefore, from the viewpoint of productivity, flexibility in line design, and the like, in practice, one or more water-soluble cellulose derivatives selected from the above (1) to (3) are used as the binder for the interlayer film. It is preferable.

<Viscosity stability>
Regarding the aqueous solutions of cellulose derivative samples shown in Table 1, the relationship between the pH and viscosity of the aqueous solution was examined. Lithium hydroxide was added to water to adjust the pH to 8 to 14, each sample was dissolved therein to prepare an aqueous solution having a predetermined concentration, and the viscosity after 1 hour from the preparation was measured. In order to make it easier to compare the degree of pH dependence, the concentration of each sample was adjusted so that the viscosity of the aqueous solution at

A 2 mass% aqueous solution of sample A and carbon powder are mixed in a planetary mixer in an amount such that the mass ratio of carbon powder / sample A (based on solid content) is 95.5 / 4.5, and a viscosity of 800 to A uniform pasty intermediate film-forming composition of 1000 mPa · s was prepared. This composition was applied to both sides of a long Al foil and dried to form a conductive intermediate film having a thickness of about 6 ± 2 μm on the surface of the Al foil.
On the other hand, 90 parts by mass of lithium nickel oxide synthesized using 1.08 times the number of moles of Li relative to the total number of moles of metal elements other than Li, 10 parts by weight of carbon powder,
(例2,3)
中間膜形成用組成物の調製において、サンプルAの水溶液に代えてサンプルDまたはサンプルEの2質量%水溶液を使用した。その他の点については例1と同様にして、例2および例3に係るシート状電極を作製した。
(Examples 2 and 3)
In the preparation of the intermediate film forming composition, a 2% by mass aqueous solution of sample D or sample E was used in place of the aqueous solution of sample A. About the other point, it carried out similarly to Example 1, and produced the sheet-like electrode which concerns on Example 2 and Example 3. FIG.
(Example 4)
In this example, in the preparation of the intermediate film forming composition, instead of the aqueous solution of Sample A, an N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solution of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) was added to 95.5 parts by mass of the carbon powder. The PVDF was used in an amount of 4.5 parts by mass (based on solid content). Other points were the same as in Example 1, and a sheet-like electrode according to Example 4 was produced. The structure of the electrode according to Example 4 is schematically shown in FIG. The
なお、例1〜4に係るシート状電極の質量はいずれも11.60gであった。その内訳は、Al箔4.50g、導電性中間膜(両面の合計)0.25g、活物質層(両面の合計)6.85gであった。 In addition, all of the mass of the sheet-like electrode which concerns on Examples 1-4 were 11.60g. The breakdown was 4.50 g of Al foil, 0.25 g of conductive intermediate film (total of both surfaces), and 6.85 g of active material layer (total of both surfaces).
In order to evaluate the recyclability of the sheet-like electrodes according to Examples 1 to 4, each electrode was immersed in substantially neutral water (here, tap water was used) at room temperature (about 25 ° C. here). Ultrasonic energy was applied continuously for 5 minutes. Then, in the electrodes according to Examples 1 to 3, the conductive intermediate film and the active material layer formed thereon were peeled cleanly, and an Al foil surface having a metallic luster appeared on almost the entire surface of the electrode. The electrode (Al foil) after application of ultrasonic waves was pulled up from water, dried, and measured for mass. As shown in Table 2, almost 100% (99.5% or more) on a mass basis in any example. A peel rate was realized.
On the other hand, in the electrode according to Example 4, the conductive intermediate film was not peeled off by the above treatment, and the active material layer formed thereon was insufficiently peeled off. The electrode after application of ultrasonic waves was lifted from water, dried, and measured for mass. As shown in Table 2, about 44.7% of the active material layer's mass of 6.85 g as shown in Table 2 (3 0.06 g) was peeled off, and about half of the amount remained adhered to the Al foil. Further, from the appearance of the electrode surface (intermediate film containing carbon powder is colored black), as shown in FIG. 11, the intermediate 123 film remains on the
