図1(a)に示すようにシールバー1,2の上流側と下流側とにおける筒状フィルム5の搬送路を挟む両側で後退位置にある上下一対の挟持部材14が、図1(b)に示すエンドシール動作に連動して、前記押え部材4によって形成された空所Sに向けて前進した後に、図3(a)に示すように上下のシールバー1,2により筒状フィルム5を挟持する直前に上下の挟持部材14における指部20に設けたフィルム当接部19で筒状フィルム5の幅方向両側縁部を挟持して、挟持部材14を外側方へ引っ張る。その際に、フィルム当接部19の弾性部材が筒状フィルム5の表面と適度な摩擦力をもって引張方向の挟持位置を変化させて外側方へ引っ張る。上下のシールバー1,2が相互に近接して上下の押え部材4が筒状フィルム5を挟み込む際には、筒状フィルム5は前記押え部材4の第1押え部6と第2押え部7との夫々の押え面8,9により筒状フィルム5が張られた状態で挟み込まれる。次に、図3(c)に示すように、上下のシールバー1,2により筒状フィルム5を挟持した直後に上下の挟持部材14のフィルム当接部19が筒状フィルム5の幅方向両側縁部を離す。上下のシールバー1,2が筒状フィルム5を挟持しても筒状フィルム5が上下の押え部材4間の隙間Gに保持されるように構成されているので、挟持部材14での引張作用はシールバー1,2で筒状フィルム5を挟持する寸前まで得ることができ、シール時には筒状フィルム5を常に展張した状態に保持できる。なお、上下の押え部材4において、第1押え部6は筒状フィルム5の幅方向中央部でエンドシール部に近接した位置を押え、第2押え部7は筒状フィルム5の幅方向両側で第1押え部6よりシールバー1,2からフィルム搬送方向に沿う方向へ離間する位置を押えるようにして筒状フィルム5を上下から挟み込む。従って、袋幅が大きく包装が求められる物品の包装にあっても、エンドシール時に発生するフィルムのしわを袋幅全体に亘ってなくし、包装の見栄えを損ねることなく、良好な包装状態とすることができる。
