Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a fixing member, an electromagnetic induction heating type fixing device using the fixing member, and an image forming apparatus including the fixing device.
Conventionally, in an image forming apparatus such as an electrophotographic copying machine or a printer, a process for fixing a toner image formed on a recording medium such as paper on a recording medium to form a permanent image is called a fixing process. Yes. In the fixing process, methods such as pressure fixing, oven fixing, solvent fixing, and thermal pressure fixing are conventionally used. However, among these methods, the thermal pressure fixing method is the most common in view of the fact that heat can be effectively transmitted to fix an unfixed toner image more firmly and that it is relatively safe. It is.
In the thermal pressure fixing method, a recording medium on which an unfixed toner image is formed is passed through a contact area constituted by two heated rolls or belts, and is heated by the rolls or belts when the contact area passes to be in a molten state. This is a method of fixing the unfixed toner image thus formed on the surface of the recording medium by pressing it against the recording medium with pressure applied to the contact area. At this time, in order to transmit heat to the unfixed toner image, the fixing member (roll or belt) is heated by heating means such as a halogen heater.
As a method of heating the fixing member, for example, when the fixing member is a roll (fixing roll), generally, a method of heating from inside the roll by radiant heat of a halogen heater provided inside the roll has been used. It was. In this method, since heating is performed from the inside of the roll, it takes time to heat the roll surface to be heated to a state where it can be fixed. Therefore, a waiting time has occurred when the user performs copying or printing. Also, in order to shorten the waiting time as much as possible, it has been common practice to keep the surface of the fixing roll heated to a temperature lower than the fixing temperature during standby, but it is also heated when not in use. However, the demand for energy saving such as prevention of global warming in recent years was not satisfied.
Thus, as a fixing method corresponding to energy saving, a fixing device using a thin film and a fixed heater has been proposed (see, for example,
However, in the fixing method using the belt and the planar resistance heating element described above, the planar resistance heating element itself, which is a heater, has a heat capacity, and the user feels a waiting time for sufficient fixing time. It's difficult to make it shorter than you can. In addition, since it is difficult to make the temperature uniform in the axial direction of the planar resistance heating element, it cannot be said that sufficient energy saving and high image quality have been achieved.
On the other hand, in recent years, methods for heating a fixing member by an electromagnetic induction heating method have been studied (see, for example,
A fixing device (induction heating fixing device) using an electromagnetic induction heating system includes a coil in addition to a fixing member and a pressure member. This coil is installed in a position close to the fixing member inside or outside the fixing member, and is electrically connected to a high-frequency power source. In addition, as long as the fixing member has a metal heating layer, induction heating is possible regardless of the shape, whether it is a roll shape or a belt shape. The belt shape is more advantageous because the heat capacity can be reduced.
Fixing by such a fixing device is performed as follows. First, a high-frequency alternating current is passed through the coil by a high-frequency power source. At this time, a magnetic flux is generated in the coil in a direction perpendicular to the surface on which the coil is wound according to the direction of the current. This magnetic flux crosses the metal heat generating layer of the fixing member installed in the vicinity of the coil, and an eddy current is generated in the metal heat generating layer of the fixing member so as to generate a magnetic field in the direction to cancel the magnetic flux. Since the metal heat generating layer has a resistance value determined by the metal material constituting the layer and the thickness of the layer, the electric energy generated by the generated eddy current is converted into heat energy.
In this method, the surface of the fixing member that is originally desired to be heated can be heated effectively and with high thermal efficiency. Therefore, the time required to reach a fixing temperature (hereinafter, sometimes referred to as “warm-up time”) May be shortened.
However, if the fixing member is in contact with the pressure member, there is a concern that the pressure member may be deprived of heat when the temperature of the heating is increased, and further contrivance is necessary for shortening the warm-up.
In view of the above facts, an object of the present invention is to provide a fixing member that takes a short time to reach a fixing temperature, a fixing device using the fixing member, and an image forming apparatus using the fixing device. .

<Image forming apparatus>
The image forming apparatus of the present invention includes an image carrier, a charging unit for charging the surface of the image carrier, a latent image forming unit for forming a latent image on the surface of the image carrier, and developing the latent image with a developer. And developing means for forming a toner image, transfer means for transferring the toner image to a recording medium, and fixing means for heat-fixing the toner image on the recording medium, the fixing means comprising a tubular film including a metal layer A drive transmission member for rotating the tubular film disposed at least at one end in the axial direction of the tubular film (hereinafter, appropriately referred to as a “gear member”), the tubular film and the drive transmission member, A fixing member (a fixing member of the present invention) having an adhesive portion for adhering, a pressure member in contact with the fixing member, and applying an alternating magnetic field to heat the fixing member (heating the metal layer) ) Electromagnetic induction heating device, It characterized in that it is a fixing device (fixing apparatus of the present invention) having.
In the image forming apparatus of the present invention, the fixing member includes a gear member at least at one end of the tubular film, so that power is transmitted to the gear member by the driving means even in a state where the tubular film is not in contact with the pressure roll. The image forming apparatus of the present invention will be described below.
As shown in FIG. 1, the

In addition, on the surface of the

Paper is fed to the pressure contact portion between the
The fixing
The fixing

<Fixing device>
As shown in FIG. 2, the fixing
In such fixing in the fixing
Next, a specific example of such a fixing device will be described in detail.
A

Next, fixing by the fixing
First, the
In the example shown in FIG. 2, roll driving (belt is driven) is used, but the driving method may be belt driving (roll is driven).
Next, the principle of heat generation by electromagnetic induction will be described below.

This indicates the depth of absorption of electromagnetic waves used in electromagnetic induction, and the intensity of electromagnetic waves is 1 / e or less deeper than this, and conversely most energy is absorbed to this depth. Yes.
Here, the thickness of the metal layer 20B is preferably thicker than the skin depth represented by the above formula (preferably 3 μm or more and 20 μm or less). This is because if the thickness of the metal layer 20B is smaller than 3 μm, most of the electromagnetic energy cannot be absorbed and the efficiency may deteriorate.

Examples of heat-resistant resins that can be used include high-heat-resistant and high-strength resins such as liquid crystal materials such as polyimide, aromatic polyamide, and thermotropic liquid crystal polymer. Among these, polyimide or polyimide is the main component (50 mass). % Or more) is preferable. Further, the heat insulating effect may be further improved by adding a filler having a heat insulating effect to the heat resistant resin or foaming the heat resistant resin.

[Metal layer 20B]
In the
The thickness of the metal layer 20B is preferably thin from the viewpoint of heat capacity. However, if the thickness is less than 3 μm, the resistance value becomes high, so that sufficient eddy current is difficult to be generated, heat generation is insufficient, and warm-up is performed. In some cases, the time becomes longer, or it becomes impossible to heat to a fixable temperature. Further, if the thickness of the metal layer 20B exceeds 20 μm, sufficient heat generation can be obtained, but the heat capacity of the metal layer 20B itself increases, so that the warm-up time may become longer. Therefore, the thickness of the metal layer 20B is preferably in the range of 3 μm to 20 μm, and more preferably in the range of 5 μm to 15 μm.
Further, a metal layer formed by electroless plating may be formed between the heat
Moreover, if the metal layer formed by electroless plating is formed of at least one kind of metal of nickel, copper, and chromium, it can be used as an electrode for producing the metal layer 20B by electrolytic plating. It is.

Moreover, in order to suppress defects, such as a crack, and to protect the metal layer 20B, it is preferable that it has the thickness which can ensure sufficient intensity | strength. For this reason, the thickness of the
If the film thickness is less than 1 μm, the metal layer 20B cannot be sufficiently protected, and defects such as cracks may occur in the metal layer 20B, leading to problems such as deterioration in heat generation characteristics. .
Therefore, the
Furthermore, in order to improve the bending resistance of the metal layer 20B, the center of bending when the

As described above, the metal layer 20B including the
A watt bath is known as an electrolytic plating method for nickel. However, since the tensile stress of the nickel film made in the Watt bath is large, it cannot be used as the
In addition, methods such as a nickel sulfamate bath and a nickel sulfamate high speed bath are also known. When this method is used, the value of internal stress varies greatly depending on temperature and current density. Therefore, it is important to perform plating under conditions that reduce the internal stress so as to meet the purpose of use as the

[Elastic layer 20D]
In the
This is because, when forming a color image, it is necessary to fix the color toner images of four colors of black, magenta, yellow, and cyan on the recording medium. That is, the
Further, even when a black and white image is formed, it is preferable to provide the elastic layer 20D in order to cope with a particularly high speed. This is because the elastic layer 20D is deformed in the contact region by providing the elastic layer 20D, and a sufficient contact width can be obtained even with a low load. Therefore, heat can be transferred to the toner image even at high speed, and fixing can be performed. This is because it becomes possible.
In addition, as a material which comprises elastic layer 20D, a well-known elastic material can be used, As such an elastic material, it is preferable to use heat resistant rubbers, such as silicone rubber and fluororubber, for example.
Examples of such heat-resistant rubber include liquid silicone rubber SE6744 manufactured by Toray Dow Corning Silicone, Viton B-202 manufactured by DuPont Dow elastmers.
Here, the specific resistance of the

In addition, the specific resistance ρA of the
In the
Further, the

Furthermore, if the metal layer 20B is a metal whose main component is copper and the protective layer is nickel, both layers can be formed by electrolytic plating, and the manufacturing cost can be reduced.
Moreover, the linear expansion coefficient of the
Here, the measurement of the thermal linear expansion coefficient is performed by the following method.
Specifically, the linear expansion coefficient is measured using a thermomechanical analysis (TMA) method in accordance with JIS K7197. The linear expansion coefficient is measured by preparing a 3 mm × 15 mm rectangular test piece having a longitudinal direction in the circumferential direction (process direction or MD direction) of the
For such a test piece, the temperature rise rate was 5 ° C./min, the temperature was raised from 10 ° C. to 100 ° C. under a load of 2.0 g, and the elongation of the test piece around 1 ° C.

Hereinafter, the linear expansion coefficient was measured by the same method.

A silicone rubber system is preferred as it has heat resistance and a large linear expansion coefficient. The silicone rubber-based adhesive is advantageous for following the volume fluctuation of the
The range of the elastic modulus that is preferable as an adhesive portion that exhibits the above-described effect is 0.5 MPa or more and 5 MPa or less, and more preferably 1 MPa or more and 3 MPa or less. If it is less than 0.5 MPa, the tear strength is low, so that the reliability of the bonded portion is inferior. If it is greater than 5 MPa, followability to volume fluctuations is inferior.
Here, the elastic modulus was determined by using an autograph (V1-C, manufactured by Toyo Seiki Seisakusho Co., Ltd.) and in accordance with JIS K 7161 (1994) at a tensile speed of 50 mm / min. As a result, the flexural modulus was measured.
The linear expansion coefficient of the adhesive is 1 × 10 −5 / ° C. or more and 1 × 10 −3 / ° C. or less, and preferably 1 × 10 −4 / ° C. or more and 5 × 10 −4 / ° C. or less. More preferably, it is 2 × 10 −4 / ° C. or more and 4 × 10 −4 / ° C. or less. If it is less than 1 × 10 −5 / ° C., the tear strength is low, so that the reliability of the bonded portion is inferior. If it is greater than 1 × 10 −3 / ° C., the followability to volume fluctuation is low, which is not preferable.

As the conditions for the electrolytic plating treatment, the plating solution used was composed of copper sulfate (70 g / L), sulfuric acid (200 g / L), hydrochloric acid (50 mg / L), the solution temperature was 30 ° C., and the current density was 0.00. It was 2A / dm 2.

As a result, although there was no problem up to 300,000 sheets in Example 1, peeling of the gear member and the tubular film occurred after that. In Example 2, there was no problem up to 280,000 sheets, but thereafter, the gear member and the tubular film peeled off. In Examples 3 and 4, no problem was found. In Example 5, peeling of the gear member and the tubular film occurred after 300,000 sheets, but up to 400,000 sheets could be used without damaging the tubular film. In Comparative Example 3, separation of the gear member and the tubular film occurred after 50,000 sheets.
