A method of producing polyvinyl acetal by reacting polyvinyl alcohol with an aldehyde having 2 to 6 carbon atoms in the presence of an acid catalyst, and as a polyvinyl alcohol used for reaction with an aldehyde having 2 to 6 carbon atoms, by an oxidizing agent A method for producing polyvinyl acetal using an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol having a reduced viscosity.
