Abstract
Description
本発明は、液晶表示体などのバックライト装置の光源に関し、特に、外部電極型の希ガス蛍光ランプ及び光源装置に関するものである。 The present invention relates to a light source of a backlight device such as a liquid crystal display, and more particularly to an external electrode type rare gas fluorescent lamp and a light source device.
Conventionally, a lamp used in a backlight device such as a liquid crystal display body is one in which mercury and a rare gas are sealed in an arc tube made of an elongated glass tube, and a phosphor is coated on the inner surface. This is a so-called low-pressure mercury lamp provided with a pair of internal electrodes. Such a lamp excites a phosphor with ultraviolet rays of 254 nm obtained by low-pressure mercury vapor discharge to obtain visible light. Lamps using such mercury have poor luminous flux rise characteristics at low temperatures, and because they use mercury with a large environmental load, recently, replacement with a low environmental load lamp that does not have such problems has been studied. Has been sought.
一方、従来から原稿照明用光源として好適に使用されている希ガス蛍光ランプは、水銀を用いず、主として、5〜10kPa程度の低圧のXeガス放電からの波長172nmの発光で蛍光体を励起し、発光するランプであり、特許文献1などに開示されるよう蛍光体層の一部に蛍光体の非形成部を形成して開口、すなわち、アパーチャを設けたものである。
On the other hand, rare gas fluorescent lamps that have been used favorably as a light source for illuminating a document do not use mercury, and excite the phosphor mainly by light emission at a wavelength of 172 nm from a low-pressure Xe gas discharge of about 5 to 10 kPa. , A lamp that emits light, and as disclosed in
FIG. 7 is a schematic configuration diagram of a cross section perpendicular to the tube axis of the rare gas fluorescent lamp for illuminating the document.
When a voltage is applied to the
In a rare gas fluorescent lamp having such an aperture, the output from the aperture can be increased by setting the reflectivity of the phosphor layer high. However, even if the thickness of the phosphor layer is easily increased, it is not economical, and the ease of peeling from the arc tube increases. The use of a small material increases the reflectivity, thereby reducing the thickness of the phosphor layer (Patent Document 1).
Therefore, in a rare gas fluorescent lamp for illuminating a document, a phosphor having an average particle diameter in the range of 1 to 3 μm is preferably used, and the thickness is determined by providing a reflective layer between the arc tube and the phosphor layer. Although it is displaced depending on whether or not, it is about 30-50 μm.
Therefore, in the above-described backlight light source, it is necessary to suppress unevenness in luminance on the light exit surface, and it is desirable that the light source be a diffused light source. Therefore, it is impossible to adopt the current rare gas fluorescent lamp as it is, and it is considered preferable to take out light from the entire circumference of the arc tube without forming an aperture for directivity.
一般に、蛍光ランプの輝度と蛍光体層の膜厚との間には相対関係があることは知られている。よって、アパーチャが形成されておらず、可視光を蛍光体層に透過させて発光管外部に放射させるランプにおいても、蛍光体層で可視光に変換される効率と蛍光体層の透過性のバランスをはかり、最適な厚みを設定することが必要である。 In general, it is known that there is a relative relationship between the luminance of a fluorescent lamp and the thickness of the phosphor layer. Therefore, even in a lamp in which no aperture is formed and visible light is transmitted through the phosphor layer and radiated to the outside of the arc tube, the efficiency of conversion into visible light by the phosphor layer and the transparency of the phosphor layer are balanced. It is necessary to measure and set the optimum thickness.
However, it has been found by the present inventors that a simple film thickness design has a limit in obtaining a high illuminance and a sufficient luminance cannot be obtained.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a rare gas fluorescent lamp that has high luminance of visible light emitted and is suitable as a light source for a backlight in a rare gas fluorescent lamp that obtains light output from the entire circumference.
Still another object is a light source device suitable for a backlight for a liquid crystal display device, which uses a rare gas fluorescent lamp substantially free of mercury as a light source, has sufficient luminance, and can reduce luminance unevenness. Is to provide.

In the rare gas fluorescent lamp according to the above configuration, the average particle diameter of the phosphor constituting the phosphor layer is 4 to 6 μm, and by setting the average particle diameter in this way, the rare gas fluorescent lamp capable of obtaining high luminance. Can be provided. Moreover, high luminous efficiency is realizable by the film thickness of a fluorescent substance layer being 10-20 micrometers.
Hereinafter, this basis will be described.
[Investigation of phosphor layer thickness 1]
[Experimental Example 1]
It is known that there is a relative relationship between the brightness of the fluorescent lamp and the thickness of the phosphor layer. However, it has not been studied for a rare gas fluorescent lamp in which no aperture is formed. The inventors investigated the relationship between the phosphor layer thickness and the luminous efficiency in a rare gas fluorescent lamp in which no aperture was formed.
First, a curve indicated by a dotted line in the graph shown in FIG. 2 is experimental data obtained by the present inventors in order to study the optimum film thickness of the phosphor layer. This data is for a rare gas fluorescent lamp in which no aperture is formed in the rare gas fluorescent lamp according to the prior art, that is, a phosphor layer is formed over the entire circumference of the arc tube.
In the rare gas fluorescent lamp used in Experimental Example 1, the arc tube has an outer diameter of 8 mm (inner diameter of 7.2 mm) and a total length of 700 mm, and a mixed gas of 80% xenon and 20% neon is contained therein at 10 kPa ( 25 ° C. conversion), and an aluminum electrode having a width of 1 mm, a length of 680 mm, and a thickness of 10 μm is attached on the outer surface.
The phosphor layer is formed on the entire inner surface of the arc tube, and specifically, a red phosphor (Y 2 O 3 : Eu) having an average particle diameter of 1 to 3 μm, a blue phosphor (BaMgAl 10 O). 17 : Eu) and green phosphor (LaPO 4 : Ce, Tb) were mixed to prepare a suspension for coating, which was formed on the inner surface of the arc tube, dried and fired. By changing the thickness of the phosphor layer between 8 to 34 μm, a large number of lamps having different phosphor layer thicknesses were produced, and each was turned on to measure the luminous efficiency.
In FIG. 2, the vertical axis represents the relative value of the luminous efficiency, and the maximum value is shown as 1. The horizontal axis indicates the thickness (μm) of the phosphor layer. The lighting conditions were room temperature and lamp input 8W.
As shown in this figure, in a lamp having an average particle diameter of 1 to 3 μm, the luminous efficiency has a peak at a film thickness of 10 to 20 μm and a maximum near 13 μm. When the film thickness exceeds 20 μm, the luminous efficiency is always lower than the range of 10 to 20 μm, and high efficiency cannot be obtained.
Therefore, in a rare gas fluorescent lamp for a backlight source (that is, a rare gas light source lamp without an aperture), it is considered that there is an optimum value in the range where the thickness of the phosphor layer is about 10 to 20 μm.
〔蛍光体平均粒径の検討1〕
本発明者らは更に高い発光効率を実現するため、蛍光体の平均粒子径と照度について調査した。
[Investigation of phosphor average particle size 1]
In order to achieve higher luminous efficiency, the present inventors investigated the average particle diameter and illuminance of the phosphor.
[Experimental Example 2-1]
A rare gas fluorescent lamp (1) for backlight of the liquid crystal display device shown in FIG. 1 was produced according to the following specifications.
The arc tube was made of barium glass and had an outer diameter of 8 mm (inner diameter of 7.2 mm) and a total length of 700 mm. A blue phosphor having an average particle diameter of 2 μm, 4 μm, 5 μm, 6.5 μm, and 8 μm; BaMgAl 10 O 17 : Eu was applied over the entire circumference of the inner surface. This film thickness was 15 μm. Inside the arc tube, a mixed gas of 80% xenon and 20% neon was sealed at 10 kPa (25 ° C. conversion) to form a pair of external electrodes on the outer surface. The external electrode was made of Al (aluminum) and had a width of 1 mm, a length of 680 mm, and a thickness of 10 μm. Gas was sealed in a glass tube to seal the end, and an electrode made of a metal sheet was attached to the opposite position of the tube. In addition, the electrode was formed with a terminal on one side of the lamp to form a power feeding portion, a voltage was applied under the conditions described above, the lamp was turned on, and the luminance was measured. The material of the arc tube does not affect the relative relationship between the phosphor particle diameter and film thickness, so other materials such as soda lime glass, aluminosilicate glass, borosilicate glass, etc. are used. Even so, the range of the optimum particle diameter and film thickness does not change.

In addition, the lamp was turned on under the same lighting conditions, and the luminance was measured.
The results are shown in the previous figure and FIG. 3 together with black squares and dotted lines.
以上の実験例2−1〜2−2の結果、従来技術に係る蛍光体の平均粒子径が1〜3μmのものに比較し、平均粒子径が4〜6μmの範囲のもので蛍光体層を形成すると、輝度が高くなる。また、平均粒子径約5μmにおいて最大の輝度が得られるとわかった。 As a result of the above experimental examples 2-1 to 2-2, the phosphor layer is formed with the average particle diameter in the range of 4 to 6 μm as compared with the phosphor of the related art having an average particle diameter of 1 to 3 μm. When formed, the luminance increases. It was also found that the maximum luminance was obtained at an average particle diameter of about 5 μm.

更に、点灯条件も同様にしてランプを点灯して輝度を測定した。
この結果を前図、図4に黒塗りの四角形及び点線で示す。
[Example 3-2]
In Example 3-1 above, a rare gas fluorescent lamp of the same specification was produced except that the thickness of the phosphor layer was 20 μm.
In addition, the lamp was turned on under the same lighting conditions, and the luminance was measured.
The results are shown in the previous figure and in FIG. 4 with black squares and dotted lines.
以上の実験例3−1、3−2の結果、従来技術に係る蛍光体の平均粒子径が1〜3μmのものに比較し、平均粒子径が4〜6μmの範囲のもので蛍光体層を形成すると、輝度が高くなる。また、平均粒子径約5μmにおいて最大の輝度が得られるとわかった。 As a result of the above experimental examples 3-1 and 3-2, the phosphor layer is formed with an average particle diameter in the range of 4 to 6 μm as compared with the phosphor having an average particle diameter of 1 to 3 μm according to the related art. When formed, the luminance increases. It was also found that the maximum luminance was obtained at an average particle diameter of about 5 μm.
For comparison, the phosphor material is a red phosphor, europium activated yttrium oxide phosphor (Y 2 O 3 : Eu), and the average particle diameter is changed in the range of 2 to 8 μm. Various rare gas fluorescent lamps were prepared using phosphors with different diameters. As in the above experimental example, the maximum luminance was obtained at 5 μm. When a phosphor in the range of 4 to 6 μm was selected, the average particle of the phosphor It was found that high luminance can be obtained as compared with a diameter of 3 μm or less.
Further, considering this experimental result and the results of Experimental Examples 2-1 to 2-3, high brightness can be obtained when the average particle diameter is 4 to 6 μm regardless of the material of the phosphor. I knew it was possible.
〔蛍光体層の膜厚の検討2〕
以上の結果を考慮し、蛍光体の平均粒子径が4〜6μmである蛍光体(赤色蛍光体、青色蛍光体、緑色蛍光体の混合)を用いて、〔実験例1〕と同仕様の希ガス蛍光ランプを作製し、発光効率を測定した。この結果を、図2に実線で示す。
[Investigation of phosphor layer thickness 2]
Considering the above results, using a phosphor having a mean particle diameter of 4 to 6 μm (mixture of red phosphor, blue phosphor, and green phosphor), a rare compound having the same specifications as [Experimental Example 1] is used. A gas fluorescent lamp was fabricated and the luminous efficiency was measured. The result is shown by a solid line in FIG.
As shown in FIG. 2, it is understood that a lamp having an average particle diameter of 4 to 6 μm can obtain higher luminous efficiency than a lamp according to Experimental Example 1 having an average particle diameter of 1 to 3 μm. It was.
In addition, the film thickness reaches a peak at 10 to 20 μm and reaches a maximum in the vicinity of 15 μm. When the film thickness exceeds 20 μm, the luminous efficiency is always lower than the range of 10 to 20 μm, and high efficiency cannot be obtained. In other words, it was found that the correlation between the film thickness and the luminous efficiency shows the same tendency regardless of the average particle diameter of the phosphor.
Thus, high luminous efficiency can be obtained by using a phosphor having a large average particle diameter and an average particle diameter of 4 to 6 μm as compared with a conventional rare gas fluorescent lamp for document illumination.
The reason is considered as follows.
FIG. 5 is an enlarged view showing the
On the other hand, when the average particle size of the phosphor increases, the efficiency of conversion from vacuum ultraviolet light to visible light decreases because the relative surface area of the phosphor decreases. When the average particle diameter of the phosphor exceeds 6 μm, the reduction in the amount of visible light generated in the arc tube influences the efficiency of the visible light being emitted outside the arc tube through the phosphor layer. It is considered that the light output emitted to the outside decreases and the luminance decreases.
上記構成に係る希ガス蛍光ランプによれば、蛍光体層を構成する蛍光体の平均粒子径を4〜6μmとすることにより、高い輝度が得られる希ガス蛍光ランプを提供することができる。また、蛍光体層の膜厚を10〜20μmとすることで、高い発光効率を実現することができる。 According to the rare gas fluorescent lamp according to the above configuration, it is possible to provide a rare gas fluorescent lamp capable of obtaining high luminance by setting the average particle diameter of the phosphor constituting the phosphor layer to 4 to 6 μm. Moreover, high luminous efficiency is realizable by the film thickness of a fluorescent substance layer being 10-20 micrometers.
