Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a vehicle periphery monitoring system that provides an occupant with information on obstacles existing around a vehicle.
As such a vehicle periphery monitoring system,
Here, if the surroundings are bright, such as in the daytime, a good image can be acquired by the camera at the rear of the vehicle. The acquired image is subjected to various image processing. As an example, there are contour enhancement and edge detection for clarifying the boundary between an obstacle such as a vehicle parked around the vehicle and the road surface. In a situation where the surroundings are bright, such as during the daytime, the acquired image has sufficient contrast, so that contour enhancement, edge detection, and the like can be performed well.
On the other hand, in a dark environment such as at night, it is difficult for the acquired image to have sufficient contrast due to insufficient sensitivity of the camera. For this reason, for example, a lighting device such as a tail lamp or a reverse lamp is turned on to brighten a shooting range so that an acquired image has sufficient contrast. However, when the target vehicle has a dark color such as black or dark blue, the contrast between the shadow of the vehicle by the lighting device and the vehicle may become weak. When the lighting device is turned on in this way, the surroundings are naturally darker than in the daytime, so the contrast of the captured image is weaker than in the daytime. For this reason, the contrast of the boundary between the dark-colored vehicle and its shadow is further weakened, which hinders accurate contour enhancement and edge extraction.
The present invention has been made in view of such a problem, and is not affected by the shadow of an obstacle caused by lighting a lighting device of a vehicle even in a dark environment such as at night, and the contour of the obstacle. An object of the present invention is to provide a vehicle periphery monitoring system that makes it possible to extract the vehicle.
The characteristic configuration of the vehicle periphery monitoring system for providing information on obstacles existing around the vehicle according to the present invention for achieving the above object to the occupant by the notification device is as follows:
An imaging device that captures a scene around the vehicle, and irradiating in a predetermined direction the shadow of the obstacle generated by lighting of an existing lighting device provided in the vehicle within the imaging range of the imaging device And a lighting device that suppresses the shadow and makes the outline of the obstacle stand out.
The position of the obstacle to be detected is unknown including its presence or absence. However, the lighting device that irradiates the obstacle by lighting and the location where the imaging device is installed knows where the shadow caused by this lighting light is generated depending on the location of the obstacle and is included in the imaging range be able to. Therefore, by illuminating a predetermined direction including the boundary portion between the shadow (or background) and the obstacle, the shadow included in the photographing range of the photographing apparatus can be made light and the outline of the obstacle can be made to stand out. Since the boundary portion varies depending on the position of the obstacle, the illumination light of the illumination device that irradiates the predetermined direction has a certain width. Further, when the obstacle is far from the vehicle, the urgency of extracting the contour is relatively low even if the boundary between the obstacle and the background is not clear. Therefore, a direction that irradiates a boundary portion assumed when an obstacle exists in the vicinity may be set as a predetermined direction. If it does in this way, an illuminating device can be installed so that the boundary part of the obstruction and the background whose presence position is unknown including the presence or absence may be irradiated. As a result, the contour of the obstacle can be extracted satisfactorily without the influence of the shadow, and information on the obstacle can be provided to the occupant through a notification device such as a monitor device in the passenger compartment.
Further, it is preferable that the illumination device irradiates the predetermined direction at an angle deeper than this angle with the same angle as the viewing angle from the imaging device to the obstacle.
As described above, the illumination device only needs to irradiate the boundary portion between the obstacle and the background. Therefore, at least, if the irradiation is performed in the same direction as the viewing angle from the photographing device to the obstacle, the shadow of the obstacle by the lighting device that is turned on can be lightened within the photographing range. That is, the illumination device can satisfactorily suppress the shadow of an obstacle if it is irradiated to the outside in the width direction of the vehicle with reference to the same direction as the viewing angle.
It is preferable that a plurality of the illuminating devices are provided, and the illuminating devices irradiate the predetermined directions on the left and right sides in the vehicle width direction of the vehicle.
In the width direction of the vehicle, there are a side that is easily visible to the driver of the vehicle and a side that is not easy to see. Therefore, if there is at least a lighting device that illuminates the side that is not easily viewed by the driver of the vehicle, a certain degree of effect can be obtained as a vehicle periphery monitoring device. However, if a plurality of illumination devices are provided so that both obstacles in the width direction of the vehicle can be detected without the influence of shadows, a good periphery monitoring system can be provided regardless of ease of visual recognition.
In addition, it is preferable that the vehicle includes a moving state detection unit that detects a traveling direction of the vehicle, and the lighting device irradiates the predetermined direction according to a detection result of the moving state detection unit.
According to this configuration, it is possible to perform irradiation with the irradiation device only when necessary. If the illumination device always irradiates, if there is no need to monitor the surroundings in that direction, it becomes useless irradiation, which is not preferable from the viewpoint of energy saving of the vehicle. In addition, when a plurality of illumination devices are provided, if either one of the peripheral monitoring is unnecessary as in the case where the irradiation is always performed in both directions, the irradiation is wasted. It is preferable to detect the traveling direction of the vehicle by the moving state detection means and to irradiate the side that needs to be monitored in accordance with the detection result, because it is possible to suppress the electric power required for useless illumination.
Further, another characteristic configuration of the vehicle periphery monitoring system that provides information on obstacles existing around the vehicle according to the present invention to the occupant by the notification device is as follows:
A photographing device that is provided in the center of the vehicle in the vehicle width direction and that photographs a scene around the vehicle, and that is generated by lighting of an existing lighting device provided in the vehicle within a photographing range of the photographing device. Illumination that constrains the outline of the obstacle by suppressing the shadow by collectively irradiating at least the shooting range with independent irradiation intensity respectively on the left and right in the vehicle width direction of the vehicle with respect to the shadow of the obstacle And a device.
According to this characteristic configuration, the imaging range is irradiated by the wide-angle illumination device that can collectively irradiate the imaging range of the imaging apparatus. Since this irradiation range includes the boundary portion between the obstacle and the background, the shadow of the obstacle caused by the lighting device can be lightened. Therefore, the contrast between the obstacle and the background can be increased. Moreover, each illumination intensity of the illuminating device which has multiple is switched independently. The illumination intensity includes a light extinction state. For example, it is possible to determine the side that needs to be monitored from the direction of travel of the vehicle, etc., and to illuminate only with the illumination device on the side opposite to the side on which the periphery monitoring function is desired to work well when there is an obstacle. . If it does in this way, irradiation light can be made to reach the width direction outside of a vehicle to the shadow of an obstacle, and the influence of a shadow can be fully excluded with respect to the viewing angle of an imaging device.
It is preferable that each illumination device switches and irradiates each illumination intensity so that one illumination intensity is strong and the other illumination intensity is weak.
According to this configuration, for example, by comparing images acquired according to irradiation, an obstacle as an actually existing object and a shadow can be distinguished well by image processing. As described above, the illumination light from the illumination device installed on the side opposite to the side where the obstacle exists can reach the outside in the vehicle width direction with respect to the shadow of the obstacle. Accordingly, it is possible to sufficiently eliminate the influence of the shadow on the viewing angle of the photographing apparatus. On the other hand, the irradiation light from the illuminating device installed on the obstacle side forms a shadow of the obstacle in the photographing range of the photographing device, as in the case of lighting of the lighting device. Accordingly, the imaging device acquires different captured images by irradiating light emitted from the illumination device by switching the illumination intensity so that one illumination intensity is strong and the other illumination intensity is weak.
In addition, it is preferable that the vehicle includes a moving state detecting unit that detects a traveling direction of the vehicle, and the lighting device performs irradiation by switching the lighting intensity of each lighting device according to a detection result of the moving state detecting unit.
According to this configuration, it is possible to irradiate only the necessary direction when necessary. As a result, electric power required for useless lighting can be suppressed, and energy saving can be achieved.
Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing an example of mounting a vehicle periphery monitoring system according to the present invention on a vehicle. FIG. 2 is a schematic block diagram of the vehicle periphery monitoring system according to the present invention. A
An image photographed by the
In addition, not only the image image | photographed with the
FIG. 3 is an explanatory diagram showing the initial movement when the
FIG. 4 is an explanatory diagram illustrating an example in which the shadow S of the parked
A lamp light boundary line LS indicated by a dotted arrow is a line connecting the corner portion C which is the outermost contour of the parked
Therefore, the vehicle periphery monitoring system according to the present invention prevents the dark shadow S from being included in the captured image as the contrast with the parked
FIG. 6 is an explanatory diagram showing an example of the arrangement of the
In this example, the
FIG. 8 is an explanatory diagram showing an example in which the influence of the shadow S is suppressed by the arrangement shown in FIG. The viewing angle VS of the
FIG. 9 is an explanatory diagram illustrating an example in which the influence of the shadow S is suppressed by the arrangement illustrated in FIG. The light beam PS generated by the irradiation of the spot light P from the
FIG. 10 is a diagram illustrating an example of the captured image captured in FIGS. 8 and 9. Thus, a captured image with a strong contrast between the parked
1, 2, and 6 show the case where two
In the case where irradiation is performed using only one of the two
(Another embodiment)
As described above, the
Moreover, the illuminating
Moreover, if each
