このような流体の剥離による圧力抵抗は自動車に限らす、気体や液体内を進む物体に発生する。これを防ぐ方法として、物体の表面に細かな凹部もしくは凸部を設けて小さな乱流を発生させることが行われる。例えば、ゴルフボールの表面に設けられるディンプルや、飛行機の翼に設けられるボルティックスジェネレーターという小突起などが例示される。
