Abstract
Description
本発明は、複写機、プリンターあるいはファクシミリの受信装置など電子写真方式を採用した装置に組み込まれる感光体に接触させて使用される現像ローラおよびこれを用いたプロセスカートリッジ、電子写真装置に関するものである。 BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a developing roller used in contact with a photoreceptor incorporated in an apparatus adopting an electrophotographic system such as a copying machine, a printer, or a facsimile receiving apparatus, a process cartridge using the same, and an electrophotographic apparatus. .
An electrophotographic apparatus such as a copying machine, a facsimile machine, or a printer has a semiconductive region of 10 3 to 10 10 Ω in order to charge a photosensitive member or to visualize an electrostatic latent image. An elastic roller having a property (electric resistance) is generally used. For example, in a non-magnetic one-component contact development type electrophotographic apparatus, a developer (toner) is moved from a developing roller pressed against each other to a photosensitive member (drum) to visualize an electrostatic latent image and development is performed. Is done. The elastic roller used in such an electrophotographic apparatus has a semiconductive property in which a single or a plurality of resin layers are formed on a conductive rubber layer in order to make a semiconductive roller satisfying a higher level of required quality. Many rollers are used.
The performance required for developing rollers used in electrophotographic systems, such as copiers, printers, and facsimile receivers, has become more sophisticated, and the images required for higher image quality as described above. Compatibility between quality and image durability is particularly a problem. In the method of Patent Document 1, the matrix polymer on the particles is worn out by a continuous development process over a long period of time, the surface of the particles is exposed, stress is applied to the toner, and the image such as fogging and development streaks is adversely affected. Is concerned.
本発明の目的とするところは、画像耐久性に優れる高品位の現像ローラを提供すること、またはこのような現像ローラを用いたプロセスカートリッジ及び電子写真装置を提供することにある。 An object of the present invention is to provide a high-quality developing roller excellent in image durability, or to provide a process cartridge and an electrophotographic apparatus using such a developing roller.
The present inventors have intensively studied and studied in order to suppress such problems during continuous image formation and provide a product satisfying the characteristics required for the developing roller. As a result, in the developing roller having an elastic layer around the shaft core and a conductive resin layer disposed on the outer periphery thereof, the conductive resin layer contains at least resin particles, and the matrix polymer of the conductive resin layer When the elastic modulus of the resin is A (MPa) and the elastic modulus of the resin particles is B (MPa), it is excellent in image durability by satisfying 0.20 ≧ (BA) ≧ −0.18 (MPa). The inventors have found that a suitable roller for electrophotography can be obtained.
すなわち本発明の現像ローラは、軸芯体の周囲に弾性層を有し、該弾性層の外周に少なくとも導電性樹脂層を具備した現像ローラにおいて、該導電性樹脂層が少なくとも樹脂粒子を含み、かつ、該導電性樹脂層のマトリックスポリマーの弾性率をA(MPa)、該樹脂粒子の弾性率をB(MPa)とするとき、0.20≧(B−A)≧−0.18(MPa)であることを特徴とする。 That is, the developing roller of the present invention has an elastic layer around the shaft core, and in the developing roller having at least a conductive resin layer on the outer periphery of the elastic layer, the conductive resin layer contains at least resin particles, When the elastic modulus of the matrix polymer of the conductive resin layer is A (MPa) and the elastic modulus of the resin particles is B (MPa), 0.20 ≧ (B−A) ≧ −0.18 (MPa) ).
また本発明によるプロセスカートリッジ及び電子写真装置は、潜像を担持する感光体に対向した状態でトナーを担持する現像ローラを備え、該現像ローラが前記感光体にトナーを付与することにより前記潜像を可視化する電子写真装置及びそれに着脱可能なプロセスカートリッジにおいて、本発明の現像ローラを具備するものである。 The process cartridge and the electrophotographic apparatus according to the present invention further include a developing roller that carries toner in a state of being opposed to the photosensitive member that bears the latent image, and the developing roller applies toner to the photosensitive member, thereby the latent image. The electrophotographic apparatus for visualizing the image and the process cartridge detachable from the electrophotographic apparatus include the developing roller of the present invention.
According to the present invention, in the developing roller having an elastic layer around the shaft core body and including at least the conductive resin layer on the outer periphery of the elastic layer, the conductive resin layer includes at least resin particles, and When the elastic modulus of the matrix polymer of the conductive resin layer is A (MPa) and the elastic modulus of the resin particles is B (MPa), 0.20 ≧ (BA) ≧ −0.18 (MPa) By doing so, a developing roller excellent in image durability free from fog and development streaks was obtained.
In the developing roller 1 of the present invention, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, an
導電性軸芯体2は、導電性部材の電極および支持部材として機能するもので、例えばアルミニウム、銅合金、ステンレス鋼等の金属または合金;クロム、ニッケル等で鍍金処理を施した鉄;導電性を有する合成樹脂などの導電性の材質で構成される。導電性基体の外径は通常4〜10mmの範囲とする。
The
The
In the rubber material, a conductivity-imparting agent is an essential component, and various additives such as a non-conductive filler, a crosslinking agent and a catalyst are appropriately blended. As the conductivity-imparting agent, fine particles such as conductive metals such as graphite, carbon black, aluminum and copper; conductive metal oxides such as zinc oxide, tin oxide and titanium oxide can be used. Of these, carbon black is preferred because it is relatively easily available and provides good chargeability. Non-conductive fillers include diatomaceous earth, silica, quartz powder, titanium oxide, zinc oxide, aluminosilicate, calcium carbonate and the like. Examples of the crosslinking agent include di-t-butyl peroxide, 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di (t-butylperoxy) hexane, dicumyl peroxide, and t-butylperoxybenzoate.
弾性層3の体積固有抵抗値は、100Vの直流電圧印加時で103〜1010Ω・cmの範囲にあることが好ましい。例えば、導電性付与剤としてカーボンブラックを用いる場合は、ゴム材中のゴム100質量部に対して5〜80質量部配合される。また、弾性層3の厚さは1.0〜6.0mmの範囲にあことが好ましく、2.0〜5.0mmの範囲にあることがより好ましい。
The volume resistivity value of the
The developing roller according to the present invention is characterized in that the conductive resin layer includes at least resin particles for controlling the roughness of the roller surface. Further, when the elastic modulus of the matrix polymer of the conductive resin layer is A (MPa) and the elastic modulus of the resin particles is B (MPa), 0.20 ≧ (BA) ≧ −0.18 (MPa) By doing so, a developing roller having excellent image durability can be obtained. More preferably, 0.180 ≧ (B−A) ≧ −0.010 (MPa). When the elastic modulus B of the resin particles is relatively higher than the elastic modulus A of the matrix polymer, that is, (B−A)> 0.20, the polymer on the particles on the roller surface wears and the particles As a result of exposure and toner filming, defects such as fogging occur in the image after the continuous durability test. When the elastic modulus A of the matrix polymer is relatively higher than the elastic modulus B of the resin particles, that is, when (B−A) <− 0.18, the particles are in contact with the toner regulating blade. The toner is deformed and stress is applied to the toner, resulting in defects such as development streaks on the image after the continuous durability test.
なお、樹脂粒子及びポリマーマトリックスの弾性率は、以下のように測定される。すなわち、各弾性率の測定にはNano Indenter(商品名、MTS社製)を用い、DCMヘッド、バーコヴィッチ型圧子(CSMモード)で測定する。試料はローラを厚さ0.5mmにカットし、導電性樹脂層の断面の樹脂粒子部及びポリマーマトリックス部を各々10点測定し、その平均値を弾性率とする。 In addition, the elasticity modulus of a resin particle and a polymer matrix is measured as follows. That is, each elastic modulus is measured using a Nano Indenter (trade name, manufactured by MTS), with a DCM head and a Berkovich indenter (CSM mode). For the sample, the roller is cut to a thickness of 0.5 mm, and the resin particle part and the polymer matrix part in the cross section of the conductive resin layer are measured at 10 points, and the average value is taken as the elastic modulus.
The elastic modulus B of the resin particles is preferably 0.55 MPa or less, and particularly preferably 0.10 to 0.30 MPa. Although it does not specifically limit as a component of a resin particle, An acrylic resin, a urethane resin, a silicone resin, an amino resin, a polyester resin, a polyamide resin, a polycarbonate resin, an epoxy resin etc. are mentioned. The average particle size of the resin particles is preferably 8 to 30 μm. Moreover, it is preferable that the addition amount of the resin particle added to a conductive resin layer is 3-50 mass parts with respect to 100 mass parts of resin solid content of a conductive resin layer.
Furthermore, the elastic modulus A of the matrix polymer of the
Carbon black may be added to the
導電性樹脂層の形成方法として、塗料によるスプレー、浸漬、ロールコート等が挙げられるが、浸漬塗工すなわち、特開昭57−5047号公報に記載されているような浸漬槽上端から塗料をオーバーフローさせる方法は、導電性樹脂層を形成する方法として簡便で生産安定性に優れ、一般的に利用されている。 Examples of the method for forming the conductive resin layer include spraying, dipping, and roll coating with paint, but dip coating, that is, overflowing the paint from the top of the dipping tank as described in JP-A-57-5047. This method is simple and excellent in production stability as a method for forming a conductive resin layer, and is generally used.

A developing roller of Comparative Example 3 was obtained in the same manner as in Example 5 except that the resin particles were changed to silicone particle trefil E-600 (trade name, manufactured by Toray Dow Silicone).
以上により作製した現像ローラの導電性樹脂層について、樹脂粒子およびマトリックスポリマーの弾性率を測定した。各弾性率の測定にはNano Indenter(商品名、MTS社製)を用い、DCMヘッド、バーコヴィッチ型圧子(CSMモード)で測定した。試料はローラを厚さ0.5mmにカットし、導電性樹脂層の断面の樹脂粒子部およびマトリックスポリマー部を各々10点測定し、その平均値を弾性率とした。 With respect to the conductive resin layer of the developing roller produced as described above, the elastic modulus of the resin particles and the matrix polymer was measured. Each elastic modulus was measured using a Nano Indenter (trade name, manufactured by MTS) with a DCM head and a Berkovich indenter (CSM mode). The sample was cut into a roller having a thickness of 0.5 mm, the resin particle part and the matrix polymer part in the cross section of the conductive resin layer were each measured at 10 points, and the average value was taken as the elastic modulus.
Further, the obtained developing roller was loaded into a Canon laser beam printer having the configuration as shown in FIG. 4, and the image durability was evaluated. The image durability was evaluated by using the above-described electrophotographic apparatus, and after continuously printing 10,000 sheets with a non-magnetic one-component black toner, the fog on the drum was evaluated according to the following criteria.
A: Less than 3% B: 3% or more and less than 5% Δ: 5% or more and less than 10% x: 10% or more.
Next, images of 10,000 continuous prints were compared, and development streaks were evaluated according to the following criteria.
A: Development streak is not observed.
○: Very slight development streaks are observed.
Δ: Development streak affecting the image is observed.
X: Generation of development streak that greatly affects the image is observed.
Further, the developing roller after the image durability test was taken out, the toner on the surface was removed, the resin particles on the surface of the developing roller were observed with an optical microscope, and the wear on the surface of the developing roller was evaluated according to the following criteria.
◎: No wear of matrix polymer on resin particle is observed ○: Matrix polymer on resin particle is worn but resin particle is not exposed △: Matrix polymer on resin particle is worn and resin particle is Partially exposed x: The matrix polymer on the resin particles is worn and most of the resin particles are exposed.
