【発明の実施の形態】
本発明において用いられる2−{1−メチル−1−(4−メチルシクロヘキシル)エトキシ}エタノール(以下、本化合物と記す。)は、式(1)で示される化合物である。

本化合物はα−ピネンとエチレングリコールとを反応させることによって得られる2−{1−メチル−1−(4−メチル−3−シクロヘキセニル)エトキシ}エタノールを、更に水素添加することによって製造することができる。

本発明のゴキブリ忌避剤は、本化合物そのものであってもよいが、通常は本化合物が適当な担体に保持された形態、例えば本化合物が保持されてなるシートが挙げられる。樹脂への練り込み製剤、乳剤、油剤、水和剤、フロアブル製剤、粒剤、粉剤、エアゾール製剤、加熱蒸散剤等の形態をとることも可能である。

本発明のゴキブリ忌避剤が、本化合物が保持されてなるシートの製剤形態をとる場合、該シートの材質は特に限定されず、たとえば紙(濾紙等)、合成樹脂(ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン等)、及び布(不織布等)が挙げられる。シートに保持される本化合物の量は、1m2あたり通常0.0005〜20g、好ましくは0.001〜10g程度である。

本発明のゴキブリ忌避剤が乳剤、油剤等の製剤形態をとる場合、該製剤中の本化合物の量は、通常0.01〜10重量%程度である。

本発明のゴキブリ忌避剤は、その使用に際してゴキブリの侵入を防止したい場所又はゴキブリの潜伏を防止したい場所、例えば一般家屋、倉庫、食堂等のゴキブリ侵入区域において処理することにより使用される。即ち、本発明のゴキブリ忌避剤は、その製剤形態に応じて、散布、噴霧、塗布、載置や貼付による設置等の手段により施用することができ、家具部材等の材質に本発明のゴキブリ忌避剤を塗布、含浸、混練、滴下等の方法で処理することもできる。
本化合物をゴキブリの忌避に用いる場合の本化合物の量は、ゴキブリの侵入を防止したい場所又はゴキブリの潜伏を防止したい場所1m2あたり通常0.0005〜20g、好ましくは0.001〜10g程度である。

本発明のゴキブリ忌避剤は、チャバネゴキブリ、クロゴキブリ、ワモンゴキブリ、トビイロゴキブリ、コバネゴキブリ等の各種ゴキブリを忌避するのに有効である。

以下、製造例、試験例により本発明をさらに詳しく説明するが、本発明はこれらの例に限定されるものではない。

製造例1
本化合物のエタノール溶液(1重量%)10mlを、不織布1m2に塗布し、乾燥させて、シート状の本発明のゴキブリ忌避剤を得る。

本化合物のアセトン溶液(1重量%)10mlを、濾紙1m2に塗布し、乾燥させて、シート状の本発明のゴキブリ忌避剤を得る。

本化合物1gとエタノール19gとの混合物をエアゾール缶に入れ、エアゾールバルブを装着した後、エアゾールバルブからジメチルエーテル80gを充填して、エアゾールの本発明のゴキブリ忌避剤を得る。

試験例

なお、比較対照として本化合物に代えてα−テルピネオール(式(2)で示される化合物)を用いて同様に試験を行なった。
結果を表1に示す。
