胴内排紙部の下面は、排紙トレーDを兼ねている。その排紙トレーD上面に、排紙された転写紙Pが積載されるが、そのエリアを避けた部分に、排気口を設けることでより広い範囲に、排気口を設置できる。
図5は胴内排紙部のリブ形状の排紙トレーを示す拡大図である。図6は図5のリブ形状の排紙トレーDに設けた排気口を示す断面図である。図5および図6において、排気口12aは排紙トレーDに転写紙Pが有っても、排気ができるように形成されている。
排紙トレーDは、図示のごとく、リブ形状部材12からなり、このリブ形状部材12の上面で、転写紙Pを保持し、側面に排気口12aを設けることで、排気を可能にしている。この場合にリブ形状部材12の両側に排気口12aを設けている。リブ形状部材12は、排紙方向と平行な方向へ直線的に延び、且つ排紙方向と直交する方向へ連続する凹凸、或いは波形状の板材の側面に排気口を設けた形状を有する。

図8は本発明の画像形成装置における排気経路の1例を示す概略図である。図8において、後側板13と外装カバー14との間に隙間15を設け、後側板13と外装カバー14で囲まれた空間をダクト(煙突形状)とみなし、その隙間15を経由して排気口A、B胴内に排気を導く。図中、細かい矢印は気流の方向を示している。
図8には、底板16、前側板17、排紙ローラ(排紙口)18、スキャナ部分19、胴内部分20が示される。
上記排気口は排気装置として説明したので排気口としているが、吸気口として使用しても何ら問題が無いことは言うまでも無い。また、排気口/吸気口として使用する場合、自然排気/吸気、強制排気/吸気(ファンなどを使用)のどちらでも使用できる。吸排気口の部分に図示しないダクト等を配置すればより効率がアップする。
