Abstract
Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a fixing device of an image forming apparatus. Specifically, even if the thickness of a heating roller is reduced and the temperature of the roller during standby is set low, the heat storage amount due to the reduction in thickness is small. The present invention relates to a fixing device and an image forming apparatus suitable for thin-walled fixing that can be raised to a specified fixing temperature in a short time.
[0002]
[Prior art]
An electrophotographic image forming apparatus performs a fixing process in which a sheet on which a toner image is transferred is passed between a pair of heating rollers and a pressure roller so that the toner image is melted and fixed on the sheet. It is like that. A fixing device that performs such a fixing process is a portion of the maximum power consumption in the image forming apparatus, and it is effective to suppress the power consumption of the fixing device in order to save power.
[0003]
In recent years, therefore, the development of “thin fixing devices” has been promoted for fixing devices. Thin-wall fixing means that even if the thickness of the conventional heating roller is reduced and the temperature of the roller during standby is set low to save power, the amount of heat stored due to the thinning is small, and it is specified in a short time. It is designed to be raised to the fixing temperature.
[0004]
Conventionally, an aluminum roller having a thickness of about 1.0 mm has been widely used as a thin heating roller. However, in the case of an aluminum roller, it is difficult to reduce the thickness further from the viewpoint of strength required as a heating roller, and recently, an iron roller has been used.
[0005]
In the case of an iron roller, the heat conduction is lower than that of an aluminum roller, but it can be formed as thin as about 0.25 to 0.20 mm, which is about 1/4 to 1/5 that of an aluminum roller. As a result, the heat capacity can be effectively reduced, and the time required to rise to the fixing temperature can be further effectively shortened.
[0006]
However, on the other hand, in the case of an iron roller having a thickness of 0.25 mm, the heat conduction is about 1/20 that of an aluminum roller having a thickness of 1 mm. More heat is transferred to the bearing through the end of the heated roller. The heat transfer to the bearing not only hinders power saving, but also leads to temperature unevenness in the axial direction of the heating roller, which may lead to deterioration of fixability.
[0007]
In Table 1, the physical properties (density, specific heat, thermal conductivity, heat capacity) of aluminum and iron, and heat conduction when a heating roller having a diameter of 40 mm and a length of 320 mm are formed of aluminum and iron, Indicates bending rigidity and deflection rigidity.
[0008]
[Table 1]
[0009]
As can be seen from Table 1, in the case of a heating roller made of an iron roller, since the thickness is very thin, 0.25 mm, the flexural rigidity is reduced to about 1/20 that of an aluminum roller having a thickness of 1.0 mm. Deformation due to deflection of the heating roller becomes a problem. In other words, in the fixing device, the heating roller always receives pressure from the pressure roller, so that the cross-sectional shape in the direction perpendicular to the axial direction becomes an elliptical shape crushed in the pressure direction. Will occur.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the configuration in which the outer periphery of the end of the heating roller or the inner periphery of the bearing described in
[0013]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-mentioned problems, and its purpose is to easily reduce the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing without performing complicated processing such as a spline shape, via the bearing. It is an object of the present invention to provide a fixing device and an image forming apparatus suitable for thin-wall fixing, which can suppress the heat escape of the thin-walled heat roller and can effectively suppress the deformation of the thin-walled heating roller to further reduce the thickness.
[0014]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above-described problems, a first fixing device of the present invention has a hollow heating roller to which a pressure roller is pressed and heated by a heat source, and an end portion of the heating roller that is rotatably supported. In the fixing device of the image forming apparatus including the bearing, the heating roller is bent and deformed in the pressure contact direction when the pressure roller is pressed, and the heating roller in the inner portion of the bearing is biased. The side to be formed is formed so as to be in contact with the heating roller with at least two flat surfaces or curved surfaces protruding toward the heating roller.
[0015]
It has already been described that a thin heating roller used in thin fixing is likely to bend and bend in the pressing direction (biasing direction) when pressed by a pressure roller. When the heating roller bends, the heating roller and the bearing inner side do not come into contact with each other on the side where the pressure roller is disposed, so that the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing can be reduced.
[0016]
However, when the inner side of the bearing on the side to which the heating roller is biased is a curved surface along the outer periphery of the heating roller, such as when the shape of the longitudinal section of the inner side of the bearing (the cross section in the direction perpendicular to the axial direction) is circular Since the heating roller is deformed along its curved surface, it does not contact on the side where the pressure roller is disposed, but it contacts in a wide area in other portions.
[0017]
On the other hand, in the said structure, it is set as the structure which contacts by the curved surface (henceforth an inverted curved surface) which forms at least 2 plane or a convex on the heating roller side by the side by which the heating roller in the inner part of a bearing is urged | biased. Therefore, the contact between the heating roller and the inner side of the bearing on the side where the heating roller is urged becomes partial, and the bearing inner side has a large area as in the case of a curved surface along the outer periphery of the heating roller. There is no contact.
[0018]
Therefore, the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing can be further reduced, and the escape of heat through the bearing can be further suppressed. And the processing of such a bearing is easy compared with the processing which makes the outer periphery of a bearing inner side part or a heating roller edge part a spline shape etc.
[0019]
Further, in the configuration in which the contact between the biased heating roller and the bearing is partially performed by two or more planes or reverse curved surfaces, the inner side of the bearing on the side where the heating roller is biased is along the outer periphery of the heating roller. There is also an advantage that deformation due to deflection at the end of the heating roller can be made smaller than the configuration having a curved surface.
[0020]
As a result, it is possible to easily reduce the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing without performing complicated processing such as a spline shape, and to suppress the escape of heat through the bearing. There is an effect that it is possible to provide a fixing device suitable for thin-wall fixing, which can effectively suppress bending deformation and further reduce the thickness.
[0021]
In the first fixing device of the present invention, the cross-sectional shape in the direction perpendicular to the axial direction of the inner portion of the bearing is a substantially polygonal shape, and the diameter of the inscribed circle of the polygon is the pressure. It can also be characterized by being larger than the outer diameter of the end of the heating roller in a heated state without receiving pressure from the roller.
[0022]
Even if the outer shape of the heating roller is deformed by the pressure applied by the pressure roller, the diameter of the substantially polygonal inscribed circle, which is the longitudinal cross-sectional shape of the inner side of the bearing, is heated without receiving pressure from the pressure roller. If it is equivalent to the outer diameter of the end portion of the heated roller, the rotation of the heated roller is not hindered.
[0023]
However, if the diameter of the inscribed circle is equal to the outer diameter of the end portion of the heating roller, the heated heating roller is deformed along the inner side of the bearing, and the contact area increases rapidly. A malfunction occurs.
[0024]
Thus, by forming the diameter of the inscribed circle larger than the outer diameter of the end portion of the heating roller, it is possible to reliably avoid such a problem.
[0025]
In the first fixing device of the present invention, the pressure roller is in contact with the heating roller when the bearing and the heating roller are viewed from a cross section perpendicular to the axial direction of the heating roller. It can also be characterized in that the contact is made in the range of 165 degrees or less from the center of the contact portion to the rotation center of the heating roller.
[0026]
It is possible to reduce deformation of the end portion of the heating roller by setting the contact portion between the bearing and the heating roller to 165 degrees or less around the rotation center of the heating roller from the pressure contact position (contact portion center) of the pressure roller. Become.
[0027]
In this case, more preferably, the same angle around the rotation center is set to 140 degrees or less, and the deformation of the end portion of the heating roller can be set to 75% or less. More desirably, it is 115 degrees or less, and the deformation of the end portion of the heating roller can be reduced to 50% of the minimum value.
[0028]
In order to solve the above-described problem, the second fixing device of the present invention has a hollow heating roller that is pressed by a pressure roller and heated by a heat source, and an end portion of the heating roller that is rotatably supported. In the fixing device of the image forming apparatus including the bearing, the heating roller is deformed in a pressure-contact direction when the pressure roller is pressed, and an end of the heating roller is formed by the pressure roller. The cross-sectional shape in the direction perpendicular to the axial direction in a state in which no pressure is applied from is a substantially polygonal shape with rounded corners.
[0029]
As described above, the thin heating roller used in the thin fixing is likely to be deformed to bend in the pressing direction (biasing direction) by the pressure applied by the pressure roller. When the heating roller bends, the heating roller and the bearing inner side do not come into contact with each other on the side where the pressure roller is disposed, so that the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing can be reduced.
[0030]
However, when the longitudinal cross-sectional shape of the end portion of the heating roller is circular, the end portion of the heating roller is deformed along the curved surface of the inner side of the bearing. It will be in contact by area.
[0031]
On the other hand, in the above configuration, since the longitudinal cross-sectional shape of the heating roller end in a state where it is not subjected to pressure from the pressure roller is a substantially polygonal shape with rounded corners, the heating roller end is Since the inner surface of the bearing is deformed while being in contact with the rounded corner, the contact is not made over a wide area as in the case where the longitudinal cross-sectional shape of the end of the heating roller is circular.
[0032]
Therefore, the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing can be further reduced, and the escape of heat through the bearing can be further suppressed. And the process which makes the longitudinal cross-sectional shape of such a heating-roller edge part substantially polygonal shape is easy compared with the process which makes the outer periphery of a bearing inner side part or a heating-roller edge part a spline shape etc.
[0033]
Further, the configuration in which the contact between the biased heating roller and the bearing is partially performed around the corner portion of the heating roller end portion is more than the configuration in which the longitudinal sectional shape of the heating roller end portion is circular. There is also an advantage that the deformation due to the deflection at the end of the can be reduced.
[0034]
As a result, it is possible to easily reduce the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing without performing complicated processing such as a spline shape, and to suppress the escape of heat through the bearing. There is an effect that it is possible to provide a fixing device suitable for thin-wall fixing, which can effectively suppress bending deformation and further reduce the thickness.
[0035]
In the second fixing device of the present invention, the heating roller may be further characterized in that the rigidity in the vicinity of the end is made uneven in the circumferential direction.
[0036]
According to this, the heating roller described above, that is, a heating roller in which the longitudinal cross-sectional shape of the end portion in a state where no pressure is applied from the pressure roller is a substantially polygonal shape with rounded corners can be easily obtained. be able to.
[0037]
In order to solve the above problems, an image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes the above-described fixing device according to the present invention.
[0038]
As described above, the fixing device of the present invention can easily reduce the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing without performing complicated processing such as a spline shape, and suppress the escape of heat through the bearing. It is a fixing device suitable for thin-wall fixing, which can effectively reduce the deformation of the thin heating roller and effectively reduce the thickness.By providing such a fixing device, it is possible to save power. In spite of this, it is possible to obtain an image forming apparatus that rises quickly from the standby time.

[0061]
That is, considering further reduction of the heat capacity of the heating roller, in order to reduce the heat capacity by 50% or more, the wall thickness should be 0.50 mm or less. However, if the thickness of aluminum is changed to about 0.5, the amount of deformation becomes 8 times and cannot be used.
[0062]
On the other hand, the deflection deformation amount (elliptical deformation amount) is a product of the circumferential moment I of the cross section of the heating roller I and the longitudinal elastic modulus E of the heating roller, which is inversely proportional to E · I. The cross-sectional secondary moment I per unit length in the direction is expressed by I = h ^ 3/12 and is proportional to the cube of the wall thickness t.
[0063]
Therefore, in order to reduce the amount of deformation, it was considered to change to a material having a large longitudinal elastic modulus E. In that case, as a metal having a larger longitudinal elastic modulus E than aluminum (6.3 × 103 Kg / mm 2), tungsten, Titanium, iron and molybdenum were raised. However, considering the use for the heating roller, workability, cost, etc., the metals suitable for practical use are iron (20 × 10 ^ 3 Kg / mm ^ 2) and nickel (21 × 103 Kg / mm ^ 2). It is done. Even if it is iron or nickel, the amount of deformation of 0.5 mm is 2.5 times that of aluminum having a thickness of 1 mm.
[0064]
Therefore, in the case of the present invention in which the deflection deformation of the heating roller is positively used, the thickness of the heating roller is 0.5 mm or less, which causes the deflection deformation more than twice the conventional (2.5 times more accurately). Is suitable.

As described above, in the fixing device according to the present embodiment, the deflection deformation of the

On the other hand, such inconvenience can be reliably avoided by forming the diameter of the inscribed circle larger than the outer diameter of the end portion of the heating roller.

[0094]
The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and various modifications can be made within the scope of the claims, and the technical means disclosed in different embodiments can be appropriately combined. Embodiments to be described are also included in the technical means of the present invention.
[0095]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, the first fixing device of the present invention includes a hollow heating roller that is pressed by a pressure roller and heated by a heat source, and a bearing that pivotally supports an end portion of the heating roller. In the fixing device of the image forming apparatus, the heating roller is deformed in a pressure contact direction when the pressure roller is pressed, and the bearing is disposed on an inner side of the side on which the heating roller is urged. It is characterized in that it is formed so as to be in contact with at least two flat surfaces or curved surfaces convex toward the heating roller.
[0096]
It has already been described that a thin heating roller used in thin fixing is likely to bend and bend in the pressing direction (biasing direction) when pressed by a pressure roller. When the heating roller bends, the heating roller and the bearing inner side do not come into contact with each other on the side where the pressure roller is disposed, so that the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing can be reduced.
[0097]
In addition, in the above configuration, the bearing is configured to be in contact with at least two planes or reverse curved surfaces on the side where the heating roller is urged on the inner side, so that the heating on the side where the heating roller is urged is performed. The contact between the roller and the inner side of the bearing is partial, and there is no contact over a wide area as in the case where the inner side of the bearing is a curved surface.
[0098]
Therefore, the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing can be further reduced, and the escape of heat through the bearing can be further suppressed. And the processing of such a bearing is easy compared with the processing which makes the outer periphery of a bearing inner side part or a heating roller edge part a spline shape etc.
[0099]
Further, the configuration in which the contact between the biased heating roller and the bearing is partially performed by two or more planes or reverse curved surfaces is more than the configuration in which the bearing inner portion on the side where the heating rollers are biased is curved. There is also an advantage that deformation due to deflection at the end of the heating roller can be reduced.
[0100]
As a result, it is possible to easily reduce the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing without performing complicated processing such as a spline shape, and to suppress the escape of heat through the bearing. There is an effect that it is possible to provide a fixing device suitable for thin-wall fixing, which can effectively suppress bending deformation and further reduce the thickness.
[0101]
In the first fixing device of the present invention, the cross-sectional shape in the direction perpendicular to the axial direction of the inner portion of the bearing is a substantially polygonal shape, and the diameter of the inscribed circle of the polygon is the pressure. It can also be characterized by being larger than the outer diameter of the end of the heating roller in a heated state without receiving pressure from the roller.
[0102]
Even if the outer shape of the heating roller is deformed by the pressure applied by the pressure roller, the diameter of the substantially polygonal inscribed circle, which is the longitudinal cross-sectional shape of the inner side of the bearing, is heated without receiving pressure from the pressure roller. If it is equivalent to the outer diameter of the end portion of the heated roller, the rotation of the heated roller is not hindered.
[0103]
However, if the diameter of the inscribed circle is equal to the outer diameter of the end portion of the heating roller, the heated heating roller is deformed along the inner side of the bearing, and the contact area increases rapidly. A malfunction occurs.
[0104]
Thus, by forming the diameter of the inscribed circle larger than the outer diameter of the end portion of the heating roller, it is possible to reliably avoid such a problem.
[0105]
In the first fixing device of the present invention, the pressure roller is in contact with the heating roller when the bearing and the heating roller are viewed from a cross section perpendicular to the axial direction of the heating roller. It can also be characterized in that the contact is made in the range of 165 degrees or less from the center of the contact portion to the rotation center of the heating roller.
[0106]
It is possible to reduce deformation of the end portion of the heating roller by setting the contact portion between the bearing and the heating roller to 165 degrees or less around the rotation center of the heating roller from the pressure contact position (contact portion center) of the pressure roller. Become.
[0107]
In this case, more preferably, the same angle around the rotation center is set to 140 degrees or less, and the deformation of the end portion of the heating roller can be set to 75% or less. More desirably, it is 115 degrees or less, and the deformation of the end portion of the heating roller can be reduced to 50% of the minimum value.
[0108]
As described above, the second fixing device of the present invention includes a hollow heating roller to which the pressure roller is pressed and heated by a heat source, and a bearing that rotatably supports an end portion of the heating roller. In the fixing device of the image forming apparatus, the heating roller is bent and deformed in the pressing direction when the pressure roller is pressed, and an end portion of the heating roller is subjected to a pressure from the pressure roller. The cross-sectional shape in a direction perpendicular to the axial direction in a state where no pressure is applied has a substantially polygonal shape with rounded corners.
[0109]
As described above, the thin heating roller used in the thin fixing is likely to be deformed to bend in the pressing direction (biasing direction) by the pressure applied by the pressure roller. When the heating roller bends, the heating roller and the bearing inner side do not come into contact with each other on the side where the pressure roller is disposed, so that the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing can be reduced.
[0110]
In addition, in the above configuration, since the longitudinal cross-sectional shape of the end portion of the heating roller without being pressurized by the pressure roller is a substantially polygonal shape with rounded corners, the end portion of the heating roller is curved. Therefore, contact is not made in a wide area as in the case where the longitudinal cross-sectional shape of the end portion of the heating roller is circular.
[0111]
Therefore, the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing can be further reduced, and the escape of heat through the bearing can be further suppressed. And the process which makes the longitudinal cross-sectional shape of such a heating-roller edge part substantially polygonal shape is easy compared with the process which makes the outer periphery of a bearing inner side part or a heating-roller edge part a spline shape etc.
[0112]
Further, the configuration in which the contact between the biased heating roller and the bearing is partially performed around the corner portion of the heating roller end portion is more than the configuration in which the longitudinal sectional shape of the heating roller end portion is circular. There is also an advantage that the deformation due to the deflection at the end of the can be reduced.
[0113]
As a result, it is possible to easily reduce the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing without performing complicated processing such as a spline shape, and to suppress the escape of heat through the bearing. There is an effect that it is possible to provide a fixing device suitable for thin-wall fixing, which can effectively suppress bending deformation and further reduce the thickness.
[0114]
In the second fixing device of the present invention, the heating roller may be further characterized in that the rigidity in the vicinity of the end is made uneven in the circumferential direction.
[0115]
According to this, the heating roller described above, that is, a heating roller in which the longitudinal cross-sectional shape of the end portion in a state where no pressure is applied from the pressure roller is a substantially polygonal shape with rounded corners can be easily obtained. be able to.
[0116]
In order to solve the above problems, an image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes the above-described fixing device according to the present invention.
[0117]
As described above, the fixing device of the present invention can easily reduce the contact area between the heating roller and the bearing without performing complicated processing such as a spline shape, and suppress the escape of heat through the bearing. It is a fixing device suitable for thin-wall fixing, which can effectively reduce the deformation of the thin heating roller and effectively reduce the thickness.By providing such a fixing device, it is possible to save power. In spite of this, it is possible to obtain an image forming apparatus that rises quickly from the standby time.
