【発明が解決しようとする課題】
例えばWORDやEXCELやPOWERPOINTなど複数のアプリで作成したファイルをドライバー経由でそれぞれ印刷した場合は、ジョブ単位としてプリンタで処理するため、まとめてステープル、ソート等のフィニッシングを行うのが困難だった。
本発明は、連続するジョブに対して、ユーティリティを必要としないでフィニッシングを行うことが可能なプリンタシステムを提供することを目的とする。

上記目的を達成するために、請求項1記載の発明は、コントローラ、操作パネル、プリンタエンジンを備えるプリンタとホストが接続され、前記ホストで作成された画像データを印刷するプリンタシステムにおいて、ジョブ形式で構成されたデータが連続する場合に、連続するデータを一時的に見なし同一ジョブとして連結印刷処理する連結印刷処理手段を有することを特徴とする。
請求項2記載の発明は、請求項1記載のプリンタシステムにおいて、異なるアプリケーションからのジョブデータを、連結したいジョブの数またはファイル数でコマンド指定するプリンタシステムを主要な特徴とする。
請求項3記載の発明は、請求項2記載のプリンタシステムにおいて、予めジョブデータを外部記憶装置に登録保存しておいた場合は、登録保存ジョブデータも連結対象とするプリンタシステムを主要な特徴とする。
請求項4記載の発明は、請求項1記載のプリンタシステムにおいて、連結する各ジョブの用紙サイズが異なる場合は最多の用紙サイズを基準とするプリンタシステムを主要な特徴とする。
請求項5記載の発明は、請求項1記載のプリンタシステムにおいて、連結する各ジョブの構成によってステープルの位置が不適当になる場合は全ページの最多の印刷方向を基準にステープル位置を変更するプリンタシステムを主要な特徴とする。
請求項6記載の発明は、請求項2記載のプリンタシステムにおいて、連結ジョブ数の途中やジョブ数自体を指定しない場合の解除条件として、両面印刷、2ページを1枚の用紙に印刷するモードを含むレイアウト構成が重視されているジョブが存在する場合はその時点で自動解除とするプリンタシステムを主要な特徴とする。
請求項7記載の発明は、請求項1記載のプリンタシステムにおいて、少枚数で構成されるジョブを連続して処理を続ける場合には、設定によりジョブを連結させてパフォーマンス効率を上げるプリンタシステムを主要な特徴とする。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の実施の形態を図面に従って説明する。
図1は本発明のプリンタシステムにおいて、プリンタコントローラを詳細に示すブロック図である。
本プリンタシステムは、プリンタ1とホスト2が接続されることで構成されており、ホスト2で作成された画像データ(印刷データ)がプリンタ1で印刷出力される。ホスト2はハードディスク3を有している。
プリンタ1は、プリンタコントローラ11、操作パネル12、プリンタエンジン13、ハードディスク14、メイン電源15を備えている。これらの機能は周知であり、説明は省略する。
プリンタコントローラ11は、ホストインターフェース21、プログラムROM22、フォントROM23、パネルインターフェース24、ディスクインターフェース25、CPU26、RAM27、NVRAM28、エンジンインターフェース29、ネットワークインターフェース30を備えている。これらの機能も周知であり、説明は省略する。

図2は本発明の第1の制御例を示すフローチャートである。まずジョブをジョイントする(S1)。そしてジョブの開始宣言が存在するか否かを判断し(S2)、存在すれば、ページ記述データの処理を行い(S3)、ジョブが終了するまで続け(S4)、終了すると次のジョブの開始宣言までデータを読み捨て(S5)、次のジョブの開始宣言が存在すれば(S6)、ジョブの開始宣言部分を読み捨ててページ記述データ処理を行う(S7)。そしてジョブの終了宣言が存在すると(S8)、2つのジョブのジョイントを終了する(S9)。
図3は本発明の第2の制御例を示すフローチャートである。まずジョブをジョイントする(S1)。そしてジョイントするジョブ数を設定し(S2)、ジョブの開始宣言が存在するか否かを判断し(S3)、存在すれば、ページ記述データの処理を行い(S4)、ジョブが終了するまで続け(S5)、終了すると次のジョブの開始宣言までデータを読み捨て(S6)、次のジョブの開始宣言が存在すれば(S7)、ジョブの開始宣言部分を読み捨ててページ記述データ処理を行う(S8)。そしてジョイントするジョブ数を満たせば(S9)、ジョブの終了宣言が存在すると(S10)、2つのジョブのジョイントを終了する(S11)。

図4は本発明の第3の制御例を示すフローチャートである。連結するジョブは外部記憶装置(ハードディスク14)に保持するジョブ形式データも連結可能とする。つまり連結する最後のジョブでない場合は、外部記憶装置(ハードディスク14)に保持するジョブ形式データを読み出す(S1〜S5)。
図5は本発明の第4の制御例を示すフローチャートである。連結するジョブは外部記憶装置(ハードディスク14)に保持するジョブ形式データも連結可能とする他、ジョブ連結処理において、用紙サイズおよびフィニッシング(ステープル)の統一処理を行う。すなわち頻度の高い条件を選択して処理する(S1〜S7)。
図6は本発明の第5の制御例を示すフローチャートである。図3に示す第2の制御例において、両面印刷、2ページを1枚の用紙に印刷するモード(2イン1)を含むレイアウト構成が重視されているジョブが存在する場合はその時点で連結するジョブを自動解除する(S1〜S4)。
図7は本発明の第6の制御例を示すフローチャートである。少数枚プリントをオンし(S1)、ジョブの開始宣言が存在すれば(S2)、ページデータを処理し(S3)、ページをカウントし(S4)、ジョブの終了宣言が存在すれば(S5)、ページカウントが少数枚であれば(S6)、少数枚ジョブがX回連続させて(S7)ジョイントジョブする(S8)。少枚数でのジョブを連続で印刷する場合は、少枚数でのジョブがX回連続したかを判断しそうであればジョブを連結して印刷する。

【発明の効果】
以上説明したように、請求項1によれば、異アプリケーションの一括処理が可能になり、ユーティリティを使用しなくともステープルやソートなどフィニッシングが可能となる。
請求項2によれば、連結するジョブの数をユーザーが指定できるのでこの機能をドライバーに持つと、更に利便性が高まる。
請求項3によれば、共通で連結したいデータなど予め登録・保存をすることにより、容易にジョブを連結することができる。
請求項4、5によれば、用紙サイズやステープル綴じ方向の違いを連結したジョブ全体の傾向で統一するので、印刷結果の不揃いや不整合を解消することができる。
請求項6によれば、連結処理を強行した結果、視線を頻繁に変えないといけないレイアウトになる可能性を解除条件にすることで、用紙の節減を図ることができる。
請求項7によれば、1〜2ページ程度の少ない枚数のジョブを同一ジョブに取り込むことで連結ジョブ処理効率を向上させることができる。
