【0001】

画像形成装置100は、CPU(中央処理装置)と、RAM(ランダム・アクセス・メモリ)と、ROM(リード・オンリ・メモリ)とを主要部とする回路から成る画像形成装置制御手段110を備えている。

The most downstream post-processing device recognizes that its own device is the most downstream by the fact that there is no connection to the downstream serial communication means 203, and adds its own identification information to the configuration information received from the upstream post-processing device. The added one is transferred as an initial communication response to the upstream post-processing device. In the example of FIG. 1, the
[0063]
In this way, when transferring configuration information from the upstream device to the downstream device, identification information of each device is sequentially added, and configuration information representing the connection status of all devices is sent from the most downstream post-processing device to the most downstream device. Since the transfer is sequentially performed toward the upstream apparatus, the system configuration of the entire image forming system including the
[0064]
FIG. 11 shows the flow of processing when the post-processing apparatus automatically recognizes the system configuration. First, based on the connection state of the upstream serial communication means 202 and the connection state of the downstream serial communication means 203, it is determined whether or not a device is connected upstream and / or downstream. If both upstream and downstream are connected (steps S401; Y, S402; Y), it recognizes that its own device is an intermediate device (step S403), and configuration information sent from the upstream device as the initial communication arrives. (Step S404; N). When the configuration information is received from the upstream device (step S404; Y), the identification information of the own device is added to this and transmitted to the downstream device (step S405). Thereafter, when configuration information representing the configuration of the entire system is returned from the downstream device (step S406; Y), this is transferred to the upstream device (step S407), and the process is terminated.
[0065]
If the apparatus is connected only upstream (steps S401; Y, S402; N), the apparatus recognizes itself as the most downstream apparatus (step S408) and waits for configuration information to arrive from the upstream apparatus ( Step S409; N). When the configuration information is received from the upstream device (step S409; Y), the information added with the identification information of the own device is transmitted to the upstream device (step S410), and the process is terminated.
[0066]
If the apparatus is not connected upstream and is connected only downstream (step S401; N, S411; Y), the post-processing system is disconnected from the

Thereafter, it waits for the reception of configuration information representing the entire system configuration from the downstream apparatus (step S504; N). When configuration information is received (step S504; Y), it is determined whether there is an error in the received system configuration. (Step S505). Here, it is determined whether or not the post-processing apparatus is connected in an appropriate connection order. For example, an error occurs when a multi-folder having a function of adding a cover sheet is connected downstream of a stacker device or a flat stitcher. The determination of the error is made, for example, by registering an appropriate connection order in advance in the ROM of the image forming
[0069]
When there is no error in the system configuration (step S506; N), display data for displaying the acquired system configuration in a simulated manner is created with reference to the stored contents of the paper discharge position storage means 113 (step S507, S508). Specifically, display data that simulates the overall configuration of the image forming system is generated by combining the design of the

When there is an error in the system configuration (step S506; Y), a warning to that effect is given to the user (step S509). In addition to displaying a warning message and sounding a warning, the warning may be displayed by simulating the entire configuration of the image forming system, and a location where a connection error has occurred may be specified and displayed. Further, an appropriate connection order may be displayed as a guide. If the post-processing device is not connected to the image forming apparatus 100 (step S502; N), the fact is registered internally, and processing such as displaying only the

Therefore, in the present embodiment, according to the type of post-processing (output mode) selected by the user, a paper discharge unit that can be a recording paper discharge destination is set in another simulated image forming system. It is displayed in a different manner from the paper section. If there are a plurality of paper discharge units that can be the paper discharge destination, an operation for selecting one of the displayed paper discharge units is accepted. For example, a valid paper discharge unit that can be a paper discharge destination and other invalid paper discharge units are displayed in different colors, selectable valid paper discharge units are indicated by solid lines, and other invalid paper discharge units are indicated by broken lines. Valid / invalid can be distinguished and displayed by differentiating the display gradation of the symbol between the effective paper discharge unit and the invalid paper discharge unit.
[0078]
FIG. 18 shows a flow of processing for specifying and displaying a paper discharge unit as a paper discharge destination in accordance with the combination of output modes selected by the user. If there is “staple” in the selected output mode (step S801; Y), the

In this way, the position of the paper discharge unit corresponding to the output mode selected by the user is displayed so as to be distinguishable from other paper discharge units, and when there are a plurality of corresponding paper discharge units, they are displayed as other paper discharge units. Since the operation to select one of them as the paper discharge destination is accepted, the position where the paper is actually discharged can be recognized on the simulated display, and the collection work of the printed matter is efficient. Can be done well.

【The invention's effect】
According to the post-processing system and the like according to the present invention, the system configuration information is transferred from one end of the multi-stage connected post-processing apparatus to the other end while the identification information of the own apparatus is sequentially added to each post-processing apparatus. Since the configuration information to which the identification information of all the post-processing devices is added is returned from the other end to the one end, the system configuration of the entire multi-stage connected post-processing system can be recognized by all the post-processing devices. As a result, when the post-processing devices connected in multiple stages are separated from the image processing device and are manually operated, restrictions on the connection position of the master post-processing device that performs overall control of the operations are relaxed.
[0085]
The system configuration information is transferred downstream from the most upstream post-processing device connected to the image processing device while sequentially adding the identification information of each post-processing device, and the identification information of all post-processing devices is added. If the configuration information is sequentially returned from the most downstream apparatus to the image forming apparatus, the system configuration can be recognized by all post-processing apparatuses and image processing apparatuses. As a result, the entire post-processing system can be comprehensively controlled from the image forming apparatus when connected to the image processing apparatus, and from the master post-processing apparatus connected to an appropriate position when disconnected from the image processing apparatus.
[0086]
When the image processing apparatus that has acquired the system configuration of the post-processing system displays the system configuration in a simulated manner by clearly indicating the position of the paper discharge unit, the position of the paper discharge unit becomes clear and the printed matter is collected from the paper discharge unit. Convenience when you improve.
[0087]
Further, in the case of guiding and displaying the recording paper discharge position in accordance with the type of post-processing selected by the user, the actual discharge position is specified and displayed, so that the convenience in collecting printed matter is further improved. When there are a plurality of paper discharge units corresponding to the selected post-processing, the user can select a single paper discharge unit that accepts an operation for selecting one of the paper discharge units after displaying the position of the paper discharge unit. It is possible to select a convenient paper discharge unit after confirming the position of the unit.
[0088]
In addition, by determining whether or not the connection order of the post-processing devices connected in multiple stages is appropriate and notifying the user when it is inappropriate, malfunction in the incorrect connection order is prevented.
