Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an inkjet printer, a printing system, an inkjet printer control method, and a program used by connecting to a host device such as a host computer or a POS terminal.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art In order to maintain good print quality, an ink jet printing apparatus that discharges ink from an ink jet head to perform printing (hereinafter, referred to as an “ink jet printer”) requires a function recovery process of the ink jet head. The function recovery process includes a cleaning process and a maintenance process. The former cleaning process mainly includes a suction process of suctioning ink from nozzles after capping a head for the purpose of discharging thickened ink and bubbles in an ink path. In addition, a wiping process for wiping ink adhered to the head surface with a rubber wiper, a rubbing process for wiping ink also adhered to the head surface using a sponge or the like is executed. For this reason, the processing takes a long time and is performed in a long cycle (the interval until the next processing is long). In the latter maintenance process, an idle suction process for sucking the ink in the cap ejected in the ejection process (flushing) performed during printing is performed, and compared to the cleaning process, a short time and a short cycle are used. Done in
[0003]
The function recovery processing including the cleaning processing and the maintenance processing is executed before printing and at regular timing or when a predetermined condition is satisfied. Once started, it must be executed until it is completed. If it is interrupted on the way, good print quality cannot be ensured. Therefore, when the process is interrupted, it is treated as if the process was not executed, and is executed after waiting for an opportunity to perform the process again.
[0004]
By the way, in a printing system using such an ink-jet printer connected to a host device such as a host computer or a POS terminal, in addition to the time when the power of the printer is turned on, based on a reset signal generated at the time of turning on the power of the host device. , A function recovery process is being performed.
[0005]
FIG. 8 is a timing chart showing a printer control operation in a conventional general printing system. For example, when the host device is started up at the same time when the power of the printer is turned on, a reset signal may be issued from the host device to the printer a plurality of times as shown in FIG. (3 times in the illustrated example). Actually, a reset signal is output not only at the time of power-on reset of the host device but also at the time of starting an OS (operating system), at the time of starting an application, and at the time of starting printing of an application. For ease of explanation, the case where the function recovery processing is executed only by the power-on reset signal of the host device is shown. As described above, the printer is reset a plurality of times when the power is turned on, and as a result, several interruptions occur during the function recovery processing. For this reason, the suction process is repeated every interruption, and the ink is wasted.
[0006]
In order to avoid the problem at the time of turning on the power, as shown in FIG. 9, after the power of the printer is turned on, even if a reset signal is received from the host device until a predetermined time T elapses, cleaning processing, maintenance processing, and the like are performed. By performing the function recovery process (cleaning process) after a lapse of a predetermined time without performing the function recovery process described above, the start of the function recovery process is delayed as compared with the example illustrated in FIG. ΔT) However, a technique has been disclosed in which the interruption of the function recovery processing is eliminated to avoid wasteful consumption of ink (for example, see Patent Document 1).

[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the method described in
[0009]
In addition, as described above, the inkjet printer performs the cleaning process and the maintenance process not only at the time of turning on the power but also during the operation. Therefore, if a reset signal is received from the computer during this time, the cleaning process is performed in the same manner as described above. Problems such as interruption occur. Further, since the cleaning process and the maintenance process during the operation described above are selectively executed in consideration of time and control parameters being managed, the execution timing is limited to a small gap where continuous printing is performed. In the case of this time zone, there is a problem that the user feels that printing has been interrupted due to cleaning or maintenance processing during printing.
[0010]
FIG. 10 is a timing chart showing a printer control operation for one customer in a printing system (POS system) using a POS terminal as a host device. As described above, in the case of the printing apparatus used in the POS system, in addition to the processing gap for each customer (period S in the drawing), the waiting time for inserting a cut sheet (check) during the processing for one customer. Also, there is a possibility that the function recovery processing may be performed between some roll paper printing (receipt and receipt printing) operations (period L in the drawing). However, during processing for one customer, it is often not possible to secure sufficient time to execute the function recovery processing, so that the customer may be made to wait, leading to a reduction in work efficiency.
[0011]
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and the function recovery processing including the cleaning processing and the maintenance processing is controlled on the host device side, so that the function recovery processing can be performed at an appropriate timing. In addition, an object of the present invention is to provide an inkjet printer, a printing system, a control method of the inkjet printer, and a program that can prevent wasteful consumption of ink due to interruption of the function recovery processing.
[0012]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
An ink jet printer according to the present invention is a printer which operates based on control data from a host device. The function recovery processing means for executing a function recovery process for recovering the function of the print head at a predetermined timing. And permission command receiving means for receiving a permission command for permitting execution of the function recovery processing, wherein the function recovery processing means executes the function recovery processing on condition that the permission command is received.
[0013]
Further, the control method of the ink jet printer of the present invention can perform a function recovery process for recovering the function of the print head at a predetermined timing and operate the ink jet printer based on control data from the host device. A permission command transmitting step of transmitting a permission command for permitting execution of the function recovery processing to the inkjet printer from the host device; and a function recovery processing step of causing the inkjet printer to perform the function recovery processing based on the transmission of the permission command. , Is provided.
[0014]
According to these configurations, the inkjet printer executes the function recovery processing on condition that the permission command that permits the execution of the function recovery processing is received from the host device. In other words, the function recovery processing is performed until the permission command is received. Since it is not executed, the function recovery processing is not executed by the reset signal generated when the host device is started. Therefore, wasteful consumption of ink due to interruption of the function recovery processing can be prevented.
[0015]
In this case, it is preferable that the function recovery processing means executes the function recovery processing when the permission command is received.
[0016]
In this case, in the function recovery processing step, it is preferable to execute the function recovery processing at the time of transmitting the permission command.
[0017]
According to these configurations, the ink jet printer performs the function recovery process when receiving the permission command from the host device. Therefore, the host device does not affect the print process (the print start is performed by performing the function recovery process). It is possible to cause the inkjet printer to perform the function recovery processing at an appropriate timing so that the function recovery processing is not delayed.
[0018]
In these cases, one of the host instruction mode for executing the function recovery processing based on the permission command transmitted from the host device and the printer determination mode for executing the function recovery processing at a predetermined timing regardless of the permission command is set. It is preferable that the apparatus further includes a function recovery processing mode setting unit that performs the function recovery processing according to the set function recovery processing mode.
[0019]
In this case, a host instruction mode for executing the function recovery process based on the transmission of the permission command from the host device, and a printer determination mode for executing the function recovery process at a predetermined timing regardless of the transmission of the permission command. It is preferable that the method further includes a function recovery processing mode setting step of setting any one, and in the function recovery processing step, the function recovery processing is executed according to the set function recovery processing mode.
[0020]
According to these configurations, the ink jet printer performs the host instruction mode for executing the function recovery processing based on the permission command transmitted from the host device, and the printer determination to execute the function recovery processing at a predetermined timing regardless of the permission command. Since the printer has two modes, even if the host device (or an application or a printer driver incorporated in the host device) does not have the permission command transmission function, the function can be set by setting the inkjet printer in the printer determination mode. It is possible to avoid a state where the recovery processing is not executed. Therefore, regardless of whether or not the host device can transmit the permission command, the inkjet printer can maintain the print quality.
[0021]
In this case, the function recovery processing mode setting means is preferably configured to be switchable based on control data or a command from the host device.
[0022]
In this case, in the function recovery processing mode setting step, it is preferable to set the function recovery processing mode based on an operation of the host device.
[0023]
According to these configurations, it is possible to easily set the function recovery processing mode on the host device side, for example, when updating the system. In this case, the function recovery processing mode setting means can be constituted by a memory switch.
[0024]
In these cases, the function recovery processing means executes a plurality of types of function recovery processing, and the permission command receiving means may receive any one of a plurality of types of permission commands corresponding to the plurality of types of function recovery processing. preferable.
[0025]
In these cases, the function recovery processing includes a plurality of types of function recovery processing. In the permission command transmission step, any one of a plurality of types of permission commands corresponding to the plurality of types of function recovery processing is transmitted. In the function recovery processing step, it is preferable to execute a function recovery processing according to the type of the permission command.
[0026]
According to these configurations, the host device transmits any one of a plurality of types of permission commands corresponding to the plurality of types of function recovery processing. Various types of function recovery processing can be performed.
[0027]
In these cases, the apparatus further comprises a prohibition command receiving means for receiving a prohibition command for prohibiting the execution of the function recovery processing from the host device. Preferably, no processing is performed.
[0028]
In these cases, the apparatus further comprises a prohibition command transmission step of transmitting a prohibition command for prohibiting execution of the function recovery processing from the host device. In the function recovery processing step, after the prohibition command is received, until the permission command is received. It is preferable not to execute the function recovery processing.
[0029]
According to these configurations, the host device can specify the period during which the function recovery process is not performed by the inkjet printer by transmitting the prohibition command. Therefore, the host device transmits a prohibition command when it determines that there is a possibility of affecting print processing, and transmits a permission command when it determines that it does not affect print processing. The function recovery processing can be executed at an appropriate timing.
[0030]
In these cases, the function recovery processing means preferably executes the function recovery processing on condition that specific print data or a specific command is received instead of receiving the permission command.
[0031]
In these cases, in the function recovery processing step, it is preferable to execute the function recovery processing based on transmission of specific print data or a specific command instead of the permission command.
[0032]
According to these configurations, the inkjet printer performs the function recovery processing based on the reception of the specific print data or the specific command. Therefore, even if the host device does not support the host instruction mode (the permission command transmission function). ), The print quality of the inkjet printer can be maintained.
[0033]
A printing system according to the present invention includes the inkjet printer according to any one of the above, and a host device, the host device includes an authorization command transmission unit that transmits an authorization command to the inkjet printer, and the authorization command transmission unit includes: A permission command is transmitted at the time of starting and / or terminating an application incorporated in the host device.
[0034]
According to this configuration, it is unlikely that printing will be performed immediately after the application incorporated in the host device is activated, and therefore, the function recovery processing can be executed without affecting the printing processing. Further, since it is not assumed that printing is performed at the end of the application, the function recovery processing can be similarly executed without affecting the print processing. Furthermore, when the application is started and / or terminated, the permission command is transmitted. Therefore, even if the application itself does not support the function of transmitting the permission command, the inkjet printer is permitted to perform the function recovery processing. be able to.
[0035]
In this case, it is preferable that the host device is a POS terminal that performs a payment process based on the input of the product information by the operator, and that the permission command transmitting unit transmits the permission command when the product information is input.
[0036]
According to this configuration, when the merchandise information is input by the operator at the time of using the POS terminal, usually a plurality of merchandise information is input, and the printing is not performed during that time, so that the printing process is not affected. Function recovery processing can be executed.
[0037]
In these cases, it is preferable that the POS terminal can perform a settlement process using a credit card, and that the permission command transmitting means transmits a permission command when the information reading of the credit card is completed.
[0038]
According to this configuration, when the reading of the credit card information is completed at the time of using the POS terminal, the authentication processing of the credit card is normally performed, and the printing is not performed during that time. Function recovery processing can be executed without any problem.
[0039]
In these cases, it is preferable that the POS terminal can perform a checkout process by a check, and that the permission command transmitting means transmits a permission command when printing on the check is completed.
[0040]
According to this configuration, when printing on the check is completed at the time of using the POS terminal, the check is usually signed by the customer, and printing is not performed during that time. Function recovery processing can be executed without any problem.
[0041]
In these cases, it is preferable that the permission command transmitting unit adds the permission command to the end of the print data to be transmitted to the inkjet printer and transmits the print data.
[0042]
According to this configuration, when the POS terminal is used, it is unlikely that printing will be restarted immediately after printing is completed, so that the function recovery processing can be executed without affecting the printing processing.
[0043]
In these cases, it is preferable that the permission command transmitting means transmits the permission command when the POS terminal goes into a sleep state and / or when the POS terminal goes into an operation state from the sleep state.
[0044]
According to this configuration, when using the POS terminal, when the POS terminal goes into a sleep state (for example, when an operation indicating replacement of an operator is performed), printing is not performed naturally. The function recovery processing can be executed without affecting. Also, when the operation state changes from the halt state to the operation state (for example, when an operation indicating registration of an operator is performed), it is unlikely that printing will be performed immediately after that. Function recovery processing can be executed. Further, when the operation state changes from the halt state to the operation state, it is considered that the ink in the nozzles is thickened, so that the print quality can be maintained by performing the function recovery processing.
[0045]
In this case, the POS terminal inputs merchandise information by reading with the barcode scanner, and when the barcode scanner is stored in a predetermined storage position, it is regarded as inactive and when the barcode scanner is removed from the storage position. It is preferable to consider that the state has changed from the rest state to the operation state.
[0046]
According to this configuration, the fact that the barcode scanner is stored in the predetermined storage position means that the system is not used for a while (usually, it is considered that the barcode scanner is placed in the storage position during the settlement process). Conversely, when the user is removed from the storage position, it means the start of the settlement process, so that the function recovery process can be executed at an appropriate timing.
[0047]
According to a second aspect of the invention, there is provided a program for executing each of the steps in the inkjet printer control method according to any one of the above aspects.
[0048]
According to this configuration, it is possible to provide a program capable of performing the function recovery processing including the cleaning processing and the maintenance processing at an appropriate timing, and preventing wasteful consumption of ink due to interruption of the function recovery processing. Can be.

[0060]
Here, specific processing of the function recovery processing (cleaning processing and maintenance processing) will be described. The above-mentioned cleaning process mainly includes a suction process of sucking ink from nozzles after capping the print head for the purpose of discharging the thickened ink and bubbles in the ink path, and wiping ink adhered to the head surface with a rubber wiper. It includes a wiping process, a rubbing process for wiping ink also attached to the head surface using a sponge, a flushing process (discharge process) for idly discharging a predetermined amount of ink to a cap or a non-printing area, and the like. In comparison, it means an operation requiring a long period and a long time. The flushing process is executed once every several seconds even during the printing process other than when the permission command is received. However, since it can be executed in a short time, the print processing is not affected.

The time required for the cleaning process is about 20 seconds for a heavy cleaning process and about 10 seconds for a light cleaning process. In addition, the maintenance process requires a time of about 10 seconds or less. Note that the cleaning process and the maintenance process are not limited to the above-described various processes, and may be performed in combination with various maintenance processes for maintaining a good printing state. In the cleaning process, a design change such as a combination of the idle suction process and a rubbing process that can be performed in a relatively short time in the maintenance process is also possible.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the inkjet printer, the printing system, the inkjet printer control method, and the program of the present invention, the inkjet printer receives the permission command for permitting the execution of the function recovery process from the host device, and then executes the function. Since the recovery processing is performed, the function recovery processing is not performed by the reset signal generated when the host device is started. Therefore, wasteful consumption of ink due to interruption of the function recovery processing can be prevented.
[0105]
In addition, since the inkjet printer performs the function recovery process when receiving the permission command from the host device, the host device performs the function recovery process on the inkjet printer at an appropriate timing so as not to affect the printing process. Can be done.
