TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical fiber sensor using a fiber Bragg grating (hereinafter, referred to as FBG), and relates to a system capable of measuring a long distance with respect to a conventional FBG optical fiber sensor.
[0002]
[Prior art]
The optical fiber sensor is hardly affected by electromagnetic induction because it does not require a power supply for the sensor part, compared to a sensor using a piezoelectric element. Since a plurality of signals can be transmitted, it is very effective for long-distance and large-scale multipoint measurement. Products utilizing the characteristics of the optical fiber sensor include an acoustic sensor used underwater and an acceleration sensor installed on the sea floor to detect shaking of the sea bottom.
In addition, FBGs, which are rapidly spreading as wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical communication devices, are capable of selecting from a plurality of wavelengths to be used, being small in size and having low loss, and It has the advantage of low cost, and has recently attracted much attention as a device used in the above-mentioned optical fiber sensor.
[0003]
Here, the reflection wavelength of the FBG will be described.
FBG reflection wavelength (λ B ) Indicates the effective refractive index of the core as (n eff ), The lattice spacing of FBG is (Λ),

When distortion is applied to the FBG due to external temperature, displacement, pressure, etc., in the 1550 nm band, the reflection wavelength shifts with a distortion sensitivity of about 1.2 [pm / με].

When different wavelength bands are allocated to a plurality of FBG sensors in this way, multiplexing can be performed by the WDM method, and a measurement system capable of performing multipoint measurement can be provided. As a similar system, for example, JP-A-2000-180270 describes a configuration of a measurement system using a plurality of FBG sensors having different wavelength bands.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, when performing long-distance transmission using an FBG sensor, there is a problem that noise due to Rayleigh scattered light increases as the distance increases. FIG. 9 shows how noise is generated due to Rayleigh scattered light in a measurement system using a conventional FBG sensor. This figure has the same configuration as that of FIG. 8, and therefore detailed description of the symbols is omitted.
[0011]
When the spectrum signal light is transmitted from the broadband light source 11a to the FBG sensor 11e, the Rayleigh scattered light having the same wavelength as the spectrum signal light is directed in a direction opposite to the direction in which the light travels, that is, in the direction from the FBG sensor 11e1 to the

On the other hand, since the power of the signal light receives a transmission loss of 2 L [km] in a round trip, the signal light power I returning to the

It becomes. Here, SNR up to a transmission distance of 50 km RS Is shown in FIG. It can be seen from this that the SNR is significantly degraded with the transmission over a long distance. If the SNR deteriorates, it becomes impossible to distinguish whether the input signal light is from the FBG sensor or from the Rayleigh scattered light when the signal from the FBG sensor is detected by the wavelength detector. It degrades with the SNR of the scattered noise.
[0016]

Optical circulator 3c 4 Is a closed-loop three-port circulator, the number of input / output ports is three, and an input optical signal is output from a port located next to the input port. In FIG. 3, it is on the right. Demultiplexer 3i 1 Is for splitting the input spectrum signal light for each specific frequency band and outputting the split signal light in three directions. Wavelength filter 3j 1 , 3j 2 , 3j 3 Is to output only light having a frequency within a predetermined range with respect to input light having a certain frequency band. Although the present embodiment has been described using the closed-loop three-port circulator, it is also possible to multiplex FBG sensors with a similar configuration in which the number of ports of the closed-loop circulator is further increased. In this case, the number of ports of the closed-loop circulator is the same as the number of FBG sensor groups. [0045]
FIG. 5 shows a level diagram when a Raman amplifier is performed, which is indicated by a solid line. The broken line indicates a level diagram when a booster amplifier is installed immediately after the light source and a preamplifier is installed immediately before the detector without using the Raman amplifier. When the booster amplifier and the preamplifier are used, it is understood that the signal is amplified by the booster amplifier immediately after the light source, then attenuated at a fixed rate, and then amplified again by the preamplifier immediately before the detector. In this case, the gain of the Rayleigh scattered noise is also amplified with the same gain as the signal light, so that the accuracy deterioration remains unimproved. On the other hand, when amplification is performed by the Raman amplifier, it can be seen that the signal light is amplified in the range where the pump light reaches both the forward path and the return path. At this time, since the gain of the signal light is larger than the gain of the Rayleigh scattering, the ratio of the Rayleigh scattering noise to the signal light can be reduced as the Raman amplifier gain is increased. Therefore, it is possible to suppress the deterioration of accuracy due to the long distance.
[0046]
In this embodiment, the pump light from the pump light source is inserted using a bidirectional WDM coupler. However, the same effect can be obtained by disposing the pump light source at the end of the FBG sensor group. In this case, the spectrum signal light output from the broadband light source is amplified by backward pumping, and the signal light output from the FBG sensor group is amplified by forward pumping.
[0047]
Next, a fifth embodiment will be described with reference to FIG. In contrast to the configuration of FIG. 5 An erbium-doped fiber 5k is inserted at a position near the upper FBG sensor group. The erbium-doped fiber 5k has a function of amplifying the optical power of the spectrum signal light by the incidence of the pump light.
[0048]
Next, the operation will be described. As in the fourth embodiment, the spectrum signal light output from the broadband light source is converted into an optical circulator 5c. 1 , Bidirectional WDM coupler 5c 2 Through the optical fiber 5b 4 To enter. And it is amplified by the forward excitation of the pump light. Here, the power of the pump light is attenuated together with the forward pumping. However, since the erbium-doped fiber is arranged at a position where the pump light reaches, it is amplified again. After the amplification, the signal is input to the wavelength detector and detected by the same operation as in the fourth embodiment.
[0049]
When an erbium-doped fiber is arranged near the wavelength detector, not only the spectrum signal light but also the Rayleigh scattering noise is amplified, but in this embodiment, since it is arranged immediately before the FBG sensor group, Only the spectrum signal light is amplified. Therefore, it is possible to suppress the accuracy deterioration due to the long distance.
[0050]
Next, a sixth embodiment will be described. FIG. 7 shows a level diagram when the reflectivity of each FBG sensor used in the FBG sensor group is different, having the same configuration as that of the fourth embodiment. 6m spectral light output from the light source 1 Is the FBG sensor 6e due to the propagation loss. 1 6m of spectrum light whose level is attenuated when input 2 It becomes. FBG sensor 6e 1 Then the spectrum light 6m 2 6n as reflected signal light 1 But also 6m as transmitted light 3 Is output. And the transmitted spectrum light 6m 3 Is attenuated by the propagation loss, and the FBG sensor 6e 2 Has a spectrum of 6m 4 Enter.
[0051]
Here, the FBG sensor 6e 1 And FBG sensor 6e 2 When the reflectance of the FBG sensor 6e is the same, the FBG sensor 6e 1 Is 6n 1 , FBG sensor 6e 2 Is 6n 3 It becomes. These signal lights are attenuated by transmission loss during propagation, and the detector 6a detects the FBG sensor 6e. 1 From the signal light 6n 1 Is 6n 5 And the FBG sensor 6e 2 From the signal light 6n 3 Is 6n 6 As the FBG sensor is located closer to the broadband light source, the level of the signal light from the FBG sensor increases. At this time, the noise increases in proportion to the level of the signal. As shown in FIG. 5 Noise level and signal light 6n 6 6o difference from the signal level of 1 In some cases, a crosstalk error in which the signal is hidden by noise may occur.
[0052]
On the other hand, the FBG sensor 6e 1 The reflectance of the FBG sensor 6e 2 If the signal light levels at the detectors are made equal to each other, the FBG sensor 6e 1 Is 6n 2 It becomes. And the signal light 6n 2 Is 6n in the detector 6d due to transmission loss. 4 It becomes. In this case, the signal light 6n 4 Noise level and signal light 6n 6 Signal level difference is 6o 2 Thus, a crosstalk error can be prevented.
[0053]
Note that, in the present embodiment, the case where the fourth embodiment is applied to the fourth embodiment has been described. However, the other embodiments are also effective when the interval between the FBG sensors is wide.
[0054]
【The invention's effect】
According to the first embodiment, since the Rayleigh scattered light on the transmission path can be removed and only the signal light from the FBG sensor can be received, the measurement accuracy is reduced even if the FBG sensor is applied to a long-distance measurement system. Can be prevented.
[0055]
According to the second embodiment, the FBG sensor can be applied to a long-distance measurement system without lowering the measurement accuracy. Further, the number of sensor groups can be doubled with respect to the first embodiment while keeping the number of the longest transmission line optical fibers the same. Further, it is possible to provide a multi-sensor system in which each sensor group measures a different physical quantity.
[0056]
According to the third embodiment, the FBG sensor can be applied to a long-distance measurement system without lowering the measurement accuracy. Further, the number of the longest transmission path optical fibers can be reduced to half that of the sensor group. Further, it is possible to provide a multi-sensor system in which each sensor group measures a different physical quantity.
[0057]
According to the fourth embodiment, the signal light can be amplified at a higher rate than the Rayleigh scattered noise by pumping the signal light forward and backward by the pump light, so that the deterioration in accuracy can be suppressed.
[0058]
According to the fifth embodiment, since only the signal light can be amplified by the erbium-doped fiber, deterioration in accuracy can be suppressed.
[0059]
According to the sixth embodiment, even when the interval between the FBG sensors is wide, it is possible to suppress the occurrence of the crosstalk error.
