Abstract
Description

【0025】
CPU103が実行する処理はROM104(Read Only Memory)に記憶されるプログラムによって表現される。

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an ink end detection method for an ink jet printer, an ink jet printer, and an information recording medium. In particular, an ink end detection method of an ink jet printer that sets an initial value of an ink end counter when the ink near end detection mechanism determines that the ink is near end, and counts the ink end counter to detect the ink end when ink is consumed thereafter. , An ink jet printer and an information recording medium.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Related Art An ink jet printer using an ink cartridge as an ink supply source has been widely known. In general, an ink jet printer of this type counts the amount of ink consumed based on the amount of ink ejected from the nozzles of the ink jet head, and detects ink exhaustion based on the count result. However, the ink end detection method for detecting the ink shortage in this manner has the following problems.
[0003]
Since the consumption of ink discharged from the nozzles of the inkjet head varies depending on the individual differences of the inkjet printer, the amount of ink consumed to be counted varies greatly as compared with the actual amount of ink consumed. Therefore, it is necessary to provide a large margin to determine the ink end. As a result, when the ink end is detected, the ink may remain, and the ink is often wasted. Conventionally, in order to solve such a problem, an ink jet printer having an ink near-end sensor for detecting an ink near-end in an ink cartridge has been invented (for example, see Patent Document 1).
[0004]
[Patent Document 1]
JP-A-2002-326369
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The detection of the remaining amount of ink by the ink near-end sensor can detect an effective remaining amount of ink that is not affected by individual differences of the inkjet printer because the sensor detects the amount of ink up to a certain amount or less. However, the desirable points remain.
[0006]
In other words, the ink near-end sensor detects that the amount of ink has become equal to or less than a predetermined amount. Until the ink runs out, the ink near-end sensor detects the amount of ink consumed based on the amount of ink consumed from the nozzles of the inkjet head. Is counted, and based on the count result, the ink out is detected. In the method of counting the amount of ink, as described in the related art, since the ejection amount of the ink of the inkjet head varies depending on the individual difference of the inkjet printer, it is necessary to provide a large margin. At the time when the end is detected, there is a problem that ink may remain.
[0007]
The present invention has been made in order to solve this problem, and proposes a method for reducing variation in ink consumption due to individual differences of inkjet printers, and has an object to accurately detect an ink end. I do.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides an ink near-end determining step of determining whether the remaining amount of ink in an ink cartridge is at an ink near-end by detecting a physical ink amount,
An ink near-end counter counting step of counting the consumption of ink ejected from the nozzles of the inkjet head with an ink near-end counter from the time when the ink in the ink cartridge is full to the time when the ink near end determination step determines that the ink is near end; When,
An ink end counter initial value setting step of setting the amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridge as an ink end counter initial value at the time when the ink near end determination step determines that the ink is near end;
An ink end counter for setting the initial value of the ink end counter to an ink end counter after the ink near end determination step determines that the ink is near end, and counting the consumption of ink ejected from the nozzles of the inkjet head by the ink end counter. A counting step;
An ink end determination step of determining whether or not the ink end counter calculated from the ink end counter counting step has reached the ink end counter initial value;
It is characterized by having.
[0009]
Further, the ink end counter initial value setting step includes a near end ink amount representing a physical ink amount from a state where the ink is full to an ink near end determination, and a physical ink remaining in the ink cartridge at the time of the ink near end determination. Based on the end ink amount indicating the amount and the ink near end counter,
Temporary calculation of the ink end counter initial value from the temporary ink end counter initial value = ink near end counter × end ink amount / near end ink amount;
It is characterized by:
[0010]
When the temporary ink end counter initial value is smaller than the minimum ink end counter initial value counted when the ink is consumed most in consideration of the variation of the individual inkjet printers, the ink end counter initial value is set to the minimum ink end counter value. Correct to the end counter initial value,
It is characterized by having a first correction.
[0011]
When the temporary ink end counter initial value is larger than the maximum ink end counter initial value counted when the ink is not consumed most in consideration of the variation of the individual inkjet printers, the ink end counter initial value is set to the minimum ink end counter value. Correct to the end counter initial value,
It is characterized by having a second correction.
[0012]
The first correction and the second correction indicate that a range that cannot be considered as a variation due to the ink consumption of the individual inkjet printer is corrected by the initial value of the minimum ink end counter. Therefore, even if the cartridge is replaced before the ink near end and the ink near end counter and the ink amount in the ink cartridge cannot be corresponded, the initial value of the ink end counter can be corrected. It has the effect of being able to deal with it.
[0013]
Next, the present invention sets the ink end counter initial value to the temporary ink end counter initial value when the temporary ink end counter initial value is equal to or more than the minimum ink end counter initial value and equal to or less than the maximum ink end counter initial value. ,
It is characterized by:
[0014]
The ink end counter initial value is calculated from the end ink amount based on the correspondence between the ink near end ink amount and the ink near end counter, so that the ink end counter initial value can be set according to the individual inkjet printer. For this reason, there is an effect that the influence due to the variation of the individual inkjet printers can be suppressed, and the ink end can be detected accurately.
[0015]
Next, the present invention is characterized in that the ink near end counter and the ink end counter are stored and held in a non-volatile memory when the power of the ink jet printer is turned off.
[0016]
Further, the invention is characterized in that the ink near end counter and the ink end counter are read from a nonvolatile memory when power is turned on.
[0017]
Further, holding and reading from the nonvolatile memory and reading from the nonvolatile memory have an effect that the ink near end counter and the ink end counter can be held even when the power is turned off. There is an effect that can be maintained.
[0018]
An ink end detection method for an ink jet printer of the present invention, and recording a program for realizing the ink jet printer on an information recording medium such as a compact disk, a flexible disk, a hard disk, a magneto-optical disk, a digital video disk, a magnetic tape, and a semiconductor memory. Can be.
[0019]
By executing a program recorded on the information recording medium of the present invention by a control device such as a CPU (Central Processing Unit) provided in the ink jet printer, the ink end detecting method of the above ink jet printer and the ink jet printer A printer can be realized.
[0020]
Further, the information recording medium on which the program of the present invention is recorded can be distributed and sold independently of the ink jet printer.
[0021]

[0038]
(A) In the case of printing, the
[0039]
(B) In the case of cleaning, the
[0040]
Next, the steps when the ink near end has occurred (S204 and thereafter) will be described.
[0041]
The setting of the initial value of the ink end counter does not need to be performed a plurality of times, and only needs to be performed once when the ink near end occurs. Therefore, the determination is performed in S204. For example, when the initial value of the ink end counter is set to 0, if the value is not 0, it can be determined that the ink near end has already been detected and the initial value of the ink end counter has been set.
[0042]
Next, the ink end counter initial value setting S205 process of FIG. 3 will be described. A temporary ink end counter initial value based on the physical ink amount ratio (near end ink amount: end ink amount) in the
[0043]
Temporary ink end counter initial value = ink near end counter × end ink amount / near end ink amount The calculated temporary ink end counter initial value is determined based on whether it is smaller than the maximum ink end counter initial value or larger than the minimum ink end counter initial value. Then, only when the result is true, the value of the temporary ink end counter initial value is applied as the ink end counter initial value (S303). If the determination in S302 is false, it is assumed that the counter is an incorrect ink near-end counter that does not correspond to the actual physical ink amount, and the value of the ink end counter initial value is corrected with the minimum ink end counter initial value (S304). An example in which the determination in S302 is false may include a case where the currently used
[0044]
As another example, when the
[0045]
Next, the near-end ink amount and the end ink amount are obtained based on the timing of detecting the ink near-end. For example, a case of an ink near-end detector using the
[0046]
The end ink amount can be experimentally obtained by measuring the amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridge after the detection by the ink near-end sensor, and the value is written in advance in a flash memory or the like.
[0047]
Note that the ink end detection mechanism is not limited to an optical sensor. For example, instead of optically detecting the ink end, the ink near end of the ink cartridge can be detected based on a change in impedance between the pair of opposed electrodes.
[0048]
Further, the initial value of the minimum ink end counter and the initial value of the maximum ink end counter are obtained from the maximum ink consumption amount and the minimum ink consumption amount discharged from one nozzle of the inkjet head. For example, the maximum ink consumption is 1.2 ng (nanogram: 10 to the -9th power), the minimum ink consumption is 1 ng (nanogram: 10 to the -9th power), and the end ink amount is 2.4 g (experimentally determined in advance). ), Between the ink near end and the ink exhaustion, the number of ejections calculated by the maximum ink consumption is 2 × 10 9 and the number of ejections converted by the minimum ink consumption is 2.4 × 10 9. Thus, the first ejection number can be defined as a minimum ink end counter initial value, and the second ejection number can be defined as a maximum ink end counter initial value.
[0049]
Next, the ink end counter counting / detecting step (S206, S207, S208, S209) will be described.
[0050]
Each time a control that consumes ink, such as printing or cleaning, is executed, an ink end counter is counted to detect ink end. For example, when printing is executed, it is determined in S206 that the command is not a cleaning command, and the ink consumption for printing calculated by the same method as described in (A) is subtracted from the ink end counter (S208). In the case of cleaning, it is determined in S206 that the command is a cleaning command, and the amount of ink consumed for cleaning calculated by the same method as described in (B) above is subtracted from the ink end counter (S208).
[0051]
When it is finally determined that the ink end counter is 0 or less (S209), it is detected as an ink end at that time (S210), and the display panel 111 is notified of the ink end. At the same time, by using the
[0052]
Note that the count of the ink end counter is not limited to subtraction. For example, the ink end counter can be added to detect the ink end based on whether or not the ink end counter has reached the initial value.
[0053]
【The invention's effect】
According to the ink end detection method of the present invention, the initial value of the ink end counter used for the ink end detection is calculated from the end ink amount based on the correspondence between the near end ink amount and the ink near end counter. Can be set to the initial value of the ink end counter. For this reason, there is an effect that the influence due to the variation of the individual inkjet printers can be suppressed, and the ink end can be detected accurately.
