Abstract
Description

V=[N(1650)ー1]/[N(850)ーN(1650)]
V=[N(1650)−1]/[N(850)−N(1650)]・・・・(1)
【0052】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a collimator lens and a collimator optical system used for a coupler that couples light beams of optical fibers in parallel in an optical fiber communication application.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, the introduction of wavelength multiplexing communication in communication using an optical fiber has been advanced. In the field of wavelength division multiplexing communication using optical fibers, the use of wavelengths in the 850 nm band and a wide band from 1260 nm to 1650 nm has been studied in order to cope with an increasing demand for the amount of transmitted information.
[0003]
On the other hand, various optical functional devices such as an optical multiplexer / demultiplexer, an optical variable attenuator, an isolator, and a gain equalizer having a wavelength are mounted in the optical transmission system.
[0004]
When such light control is performed, a configuration called a collimator or an optical coupler using a set of lenses is used to make the light of the optical fiber almost parallel, and the beam is spread to perform a multi-layer optical attenuation or gain correction between the lenses. Generally, a film interference filter and an optical element are arranged.
[0005]
However, in a very wide wavelength range of 850 to 1650 nm, the refractive index dispersion of the glass used for the lens becomes large, so that the focal length of the lens greatly varies depending on the wavelength, and the insertion loss is simultaneously made in the entire wide wavelength band. It has been difficult to realize a collimator having a small size.
[0006]
Among lenses used for microscopes, telescopes, imaging, and the like, there is already a lens that realizes achromatism in a wide wavelength band from visible light to infrared light (see Patent Document 1).
[0007]
However, there has been no conventional communication lens used for collimation of optical fiber light for communication that performs achromatism in such a wide wavelength range. This is because lenses used for optical fiber communication generally have smaller lens diameters and lengths than imaging systems, and are often subject to large restrictions on lens NA and focal length, etc. This cannot be used for a single mode fiber for communication as it is. Under such circumstances, in general, a single lens is used in a single mode optical fiber optical system, and a fiber and a lens are aligned using a zirconia split sleeve (lens barrel) having an inner diameter of 2.5 mmφ or less for simplicity in alignment. Often. It is also preferable that the size of the entire device including the lens is smaller. Therefore, it is required that a lens to be used has a smaller size. In this case, the numerical aperture NA value of the single mode optical fiber used at 850 to 1650 nm is about 0.1 to 0.15, and if the effective diameter is considered to be about 80% when the lens diameter is 2.5 mmφ, the back light The focus distance will be limited to about 7 mm or less.
[0008]
Here, for example, when a single lens having a focal length (f) of 1 mm is formed using glass PBH71 (trade name of OHARA), paraxial chromatic aberration upon incidence of parallel light depends on the wavelength of the focal length if the lens can be considered to be sufficiently thin. The variation is f / V = 0.027 from the formula (V is the Abbe number defined by a formula described later). However, when an optical coupler is assembled with an optical fiber using such a single lens, the coupling efficiency of a single mode optical fiber is sufficiently reduced even with such a degree of defocus.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The present invention provides a collimator lens having a short focal length and a limited lens diameter, and a collimator lens and an optical coupler for an optical fiber having a small insertion loss in a wide infrared region of a wavelength of 850 nm to 1650 nm.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
A first aspect of the present invention is a combination in which a concave surface of the second lens is bonded to one convex surface of the first lens including a positive first lens having a biconvex surface and a second lens having a negative meniscus having an uneven surface. A lens,
The refractive index at a wavelength of 850 nm is N (850), the refractive index at a wavelength of 1650 nm is N (1650),
Let Abbe number V in the infrared region be V = [N (1650) -1] / [N (850) -N (1650)]
When represented by
The Abbe number V1 of the first lens and the Abbe number V2 of the second lens are V1> 50.
V1-V2> 18
Wherein the focal position in front of the first lens is located on the light incident or light emitting surface of the optical fiber. The collimator lens for an optical fiber used in a wavelength band of 850 nm to 1650 nm.
[0012]
Further, it is preferable that the Abbe number V1 of the first lens is V1 <85, and the Abbe number V2 of the second lens is V2> 30.
[0013]
Further, it is preferable that the focal length of the collimator lens is 0.1 to 7 mm.
[0014]
Further, it is preferable that the convex surface of the first lens and the concave surface of the second lens abut, and only a peripheral portion outside the optical path is bonded with an adhesive.
[0015]
With such a configuration, the focal length shift is substantially eliminated over a wavelength band of 850 nm to 1650 nm, and for example, insertion loss in a single mode optical fiber can be suppressed.
[0016]
In a second aspect of the present invention, a housing, a light-transmitting optical fiber that is introduced into the housing and has a light emitting surface disposed in the housing, and a light incident surface that is introduced into the other end of the housing and disposed in the housing. A light receiving side optical fiber, a first lens barrel integrated with the light transmitting side optical fiber in the housing, and a focal length held in the first lens barrel adjusted to a light emitting surface of the light transmitting side optical fiber. A first collimator lens having the above-described configuration for emitting parallel light, a second lens barrel integrated with the light receiving side optical fiber in the housing, and receiving the focal length held in the second lens barrel by the light receiving distance. An optical coupler comprising: a second collimator lens having the above-mentioned configuration, which receives parallel light of the first collimator lens in accordance with the light incident surface of the side optical fiber and makes the parallel light incident on the light incident surface.
[0017]
Further, a light adjusting element is arranged between the first collimator lens and the second collimator lens.
[0018]
Furthermore, a third collimator lens having the above configuration is provided, and the light adjusting element is formed of a wavelength-selective reflector, and the third collimator lens receives infrared light reflected from the light adjusting element and receives a second light. Of the light receiving side optical fiber.
[0019]
Further, in the optical coupler, it is preferable that a part of the collimator lens is disposed so as to protrude from the lens barrel.
[0020]
Further, the first collimator lens can also serve as the second collimator lens.
[0021]
With such a configuration of the optical coupler, the functions of the optical adjustment element such as the optical wavelength dispersion function can be diversified, and the application of the optical coupler can be expanded.

FIG. 3 is a diagram illustrating aberrations between 850 nm and 1650 nm of the lens according to the first example of the present invention. (A) shows the aberration in the vertical direction (the plane of the drawing), and (b) shows the aberration in the horizontal direction. It can be seen that the aberration is sufficiently smaller than ± 0.01 mm, which is a practical reference, and is a value without any problem.
[0037]
Here, assuming that the Abbe number of the first lens is V1 and the Abbe number of the second lens is V2, V1> 50 and V1−V2> 18.
It is necessary to be.

Table 2 is a coupling loss comparison table showing a part of the simulation results performed in the process of verifying the present invention.
[0039]
[Table 2]
The experiments of No. 1 and No. 2 in Table 2 are data representing the coupling loss when V1 <50. No. 3 and No. 4 in Table 2 are data representing the coupling loss when V1> 50 and V1−V2 <18. No. 5 and No. 6 in Table 2 are data representing the coupling loss when V1 <V2. No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9 in Table 2 are data representing the coupling loss when V1> 50 and V1−V2> 18. Generally, the coupling loss of optical fiber collimation for communication is required to be -0.3 dB or more. It can be seen from the results in this table that the combination in which the coupling loss is -0.3 dB or more at all wavelengths has only the conditions of V1≥V2, V1≥50 and V1-V2≥18. The range of the Abbe number that can be confirmed in the simulation is 85 at the maximum and 30 at the minimum. Therefore, it is desirable that V1 be 85 at the maximum. V2 is desirably 30 at the minimum.
[0040]
In order to optimize spherical aberration, the second lens preferably has a concave and convex negative meniscus structure.

The first collimator lens 30 has exactly the same structure as the
[0042]
As the first lens, a glass material of FCD-1 (trade name of Hoya Corporation), N-PK52 (trade name of Shot Company), and S-FP (trade name of Ohara Corporation) is suitable, and as the second lens, E is used. -Use of glass materials such as FD2 (trade name of Hoya Corporation), SF-2 (trade name of Shot Company), and S-TIM22 (trade name of Ohara Corporation) is suitable.
[0043]
The material of the lens barrel can be made of not only zirconia but also other ceramics or metal, and the housing can be made of synthetic resin such as plastic or ceramics in addition to metal. The shape of the housing is not limited to a cylinder, and any shape such as a square tube or a box can be used according to the usage conditions.
[0044]
FIG. 4 is an experimental result of measuring the insertion loss of the optical coupler of the first embodiment. FIG. 4 shows that the insertion loss does not exceed −1 dB from 850 nm to 1650 nm and is a value that is not a problem.
[0045]
(Comparative example)
FIG. 8 shows the insertion loss of a coupler having the same structure as the above-described coupler and using a conventional single ball lens (BK7 (trade name of Shot Corporation), R = 2.5, V = 47.7) as a collimator lens. Is the experimental result of the measurement. It can be seen from the figure that the loss of the conventional lens is large from -5 dB to -1 dB from 850 nm to 1650 nm.
