Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an inspection method and an inspection apparatus for inspecting an internal defect of a light-transmitting substrate such as a glass substrate.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Due to its manufacturing method, it is difficult to avoid the occurrence of defects such as bubbles on a substrate having light transmittance such as a glass substrate used for a liquid crystal display panel or the like. In particular, defects generated inside the substrate reduce transparency and reduce the quality of the substrate. In recent years, in particular, for a flat display panel substrate particularly required for high quality, inspection and sorting are repeatedly performed. As a result, the current situation is to adopt highly transparent good products.
[0003]
As a method of inspecting such a light-transmitting substrate, slit light is introduced from the side surface (edge portion) of the light-transmitting substrate, and the defect is observed from the surface of the substrate by light reflected by the defect. A transmission / reflection method of irradiating light from one surface of a substrate and observing the defect from another surface of the substrate by light reflected by the defect is often used (for example, see Patent Document 1).
[0004]
[Patent Document 1]
JP 06-138045 A [0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in such a transmission / reflection method, there is a problem that it cannot be determined whether the detected defect exists on the surface of the substrate or inside the substrate. Defects inside the substrate cannot be eliminated, and such a substrate cannot be non-defective, but defects on the substrate surface can be eliminated by polishing, and such a substrate can be non-defective. That is, in the conventional inspection method, there is a case where even a substrate that can be a good product is detected as a defective product.
[0006]
In addition, in the case of a substrate having irregularities on the surface or a frosted glass substrate, the irregularities on the surface or the frosted glass portion are also detected as defects, so it is impossible to determine whether the defect is a real defect. It was very difficult.
[0007]
The present invention has been made in order to solve the problems of the related art, and suppresses the detection of a defect on the surface of a substrate that can be eliminated, and a light-transmitting substrate capable of effectively detecting a defect inside the substrate. An object of the present invention is to provide an inspection method and an inspection device thereof.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The method for inspecting a light-transmissive substrate according to the present invention includes an inspection light substantially parallel to a surface of the light-transmissive substrate from a side surface of the substrate in a state where the light-transmissive substrate is immersed in a light-transmissive liquid. And observes the light transmitting substrate from the substrate surface direction.
[0009]
In the method for inspecting a light-transmitting substrate according to the present invention, a light-transmitting substrate such as a glass substrate to be inspected is immersed in a light-transmitting liquid having light transmissivity, and the substrate surface is applied from the side surface of the substrate to the substrate surface A substantially parallel inspection light is incident (the inspection light is incident in a so-called edge light type). Then, the light transmissive substrate is observed from the substrate surface direction, and the presence or absence of a defect raised by the inspection light is inspected.

Generally, the difference in the refractive index between the light transmitting substrate and the light transmitting liquid is smaller than the difference in the refractive index between the light transmitting substrate and the inspection atmosphere (air). If the difference in the refractive index is small, refraction that occurs when the incident inspection light reaches the boundary of a different medium (the boundary between the light transmitting liquid and the light transmitting substrate) is suppressed. Furthermore, if the difference in the refractive index is small, the reflection that occurs when the incident inspection light reaches the boundary of a different medium (the boundary between the light transmitting liquid and the light transmitting substrate) is also suppressed. Therefore, the defect (bubble or the like) formed on the surface is filled with the light transmitting liquid, and refraction and reflection are suppressed, so that the inspection light travels substantially straight without scattering at the defect. Thereby, it is possible to suppress detection of a defect on the substrate surface when observed from the substrate surface direction.
[0011]
On the other hand, defects (bubbles, etc.) inside the light-transmitting substrate are not filled with the light-transmitting liquid, so that the inspection light that has entered the defects is refracted and reflected, and is detected as a defect by observation from the substrate surface direction. You.
[0012]
Thus, by immersing the light-transmitting substrate in the light-transmitting liquid and filling the defect on the substrate surface with a medium close to the refractive index of the light-transmitting substrate, the refraction and reflection at the defect on the substrate surface are suppressed. In addition, it is possible to effectively detect defects inside the substrate while suppressing the detection of defects on the substrate surface.
[0013]
Furthermore, according to the present invention, even in a substrate having irregularities on the surface or a frosted glass substrate, the irregularities on the surface or the frosted glass portion are suppressed from being detected as defects. Inspection of defects in the above can also be performed effectively.
[0014]
The light transmissive liquid can be selected as long as it has a light transmissive property, since the refractive index is closer to the light transmissive substrate than the inspection atmosphere (refractive index ≒ 1). For example, water (refractive index ≒ 1.33) can be selected for a glass substrate (glass has various refractive indices depending on the components, but for example, refractive index = 1.5). Further, it is preferable to appropriately select a liquid close to the refractive index of the substrate depending on the light-transmitting substrate to be inspected. Further, the observation from the substrate surface direction may be based on direct visual observation, or may be performed by incorporating a device for substrate observation.
[0015]
In addition, the light-transmissive substrate inspection apparatus according to the present invention includes a container for storing a light-transmissive liquid, a substrate holder for holding the light-transmissive substrate in the container, and a light-transmissive substrate. A light source for receiving inspection light from a side surface of the substrate, wherein the inspection light is incident substantially parallel to a substrate surface of the light-transmitting substrate.
[0016]
In the inspection apparatus for a light-transmitting substrate according to the present invention, the container is filled with the light-transmitting liquid, and the light-transmitting substrate is immersed therein. The substrate holder holds the light transmissive substrate while being immersed in the light transmissive liquid. The light source causes inspection light to be incident substantially parallel to the substrate surface from the side surface of the light-transmitting substrate held by the substrate holder. Then, by observing from the substrate surface direction of the light transmitting substrate, the presence or absence of a defect raised by the inspection light is inspected.
[0017]
Thus, by immersing the light-transmitting substrate in the light-transmitting liquid and filling the defect on the substrate surface with a medium close to the refractive index of the light-transmitting substrate, the refraction and reflection at the defect on the substrate surface are suppressed. In addition, detection of defects on the substrate surface can be suppressed. Therefore, it is possible to effectively detect a defect inside the substrate.
[0018]
Preferably, the container is configured to have, at least in part, a light transmitting portion having light transmitting properties.
[0019]
In this case, a light source can be provided outside the container, and the light transmission unit can be used as an inspection light introducing unit for the container, and the inspection light can be introduced into the container. Therefore, liquid-proof treatment of the light source is not required, and the apparatus can be configured more easily.
[0020]
On the other hand, by providing the light transmitting portion on the side surface or the bottom surface of the container, observation from the side surface or the bottom surface of the container becomes possible. In particular, when a light-transmitting portion for observation is provided on the side surface of the container, the light-transmitting substrate can be set in a vertical direction (a direction in which the substrate surface is perpendicular to the bottom surface of the container). , The resistance of the liquid can be minimized and the light-transmitting substrate can be easily taken in and out in a short time. Therefore, effective inspection can be performed on a large number of light-transmitting substrates in a short time.
[0021]
The light transmitting portion may be formed only in a part of the container, or the entire container may be formed of a member having light transmissivity (for example, a transparent resin or the like). When the entire container is formed of a member having optical transparency, the container can be easily formed.
[0022]
Preferably, the light transmission unit is configured to have at least a part of an observation unit having a magnification function.
[0023]
In this case, a light transmitting portion for observation (that is, an observation portion) is formed so as to have an enlarging function such as a convex lens shape. As a result, the defect is displayed larger, so that even a minute defect can be detected easily and reliably. In particular, it is more effective for visual observation.
[0024]
In addition, in order to form the observation portion in a lens shape, the observation portion may be formed by attaching a plano-convex lens or a plano-convex cylindrical lens to the outer surface of the container, or the shape of the container itself in the observation portion may be set outside the container. It may be formed in a cross-sectional arch shape convex in the direction or a dome shape convex in the outer direction of the container. When the shape of the container itself is formed as described above, by filling the container with the light transmissive liquid, the light transmissive liquid is corrected by the outer shape of the observation unit, and the function of the convex lens can be exhibited.
[0025]
When the entire container is formed of a member having light transmissivity, the container may be formed in a cylindrical shape. Thereby, it can be easily configured as an observation section in which a lens shape is formed on any side of the container.
[0026]
Preferably, the container is a light transmissive container, and is configured to block light except for the light transmitting portion with a light shielding member.
[0027]
When the entire container is a light transmissive container formed of a light transmissive member to form a light transmissive part, external light may enter from other than the observation part. As described above, when light other than the inspection light enters the container, it may be difficult to detect a minute defect detected by minute refracted light or reflected light. Therefore, by covering the portion excluding the light transmitting portion with the light blocking member, the incidence of external light can be suppressed to a minimum, and the detection of minute defects can be performed more easily and reliably.
[0028]
If the diameter of the light beam of the inspection light incident on the light-transmitting substrate from the light source is larger than the thickness of the light-transmitting substrate, the inspection light may leak out of the substrate, making it difficult to detect a defect. Therefore, it is necessary to set the diameter of the light beam of the inspection light to be equal to or less than the thickness of the light transmitting substrate. When the light source is provided outside the container, as described above, since the inspection light introducing portion of the container exists between the light source and the light-transmitting substrate, a light shielding member surrounds the container except for the inspection light introducing portion. (That is, the light-shielding member is opened in a slit shape to serve as the inspection light introducing portion). This makes it possible to minimize the incidence of light other than the inspection light, and to appropriately adjust the shape of the slit-shaped opening to the thickness, shape, etc. of the light-transmitting substrate to be inspected. Inspection light can be prevented from leaking out of the substrate even in a light-transmitting substrate having a thickness, a shape, and the like, and even a minute defect can be detected more easily and reliably.
