Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an information processing apparatus, and more particularly, to a portable information processing apparatus such as a PDA (Personal Digital Assistance) (hereinafter, may be simply referred to as “apparatus”).
[0002]
[Prior art]
In a portable information processing device such as a PDA, miniaturization of the device is the most important condition. For this reason, for example, an operation unit such as a jog dial or a key top is provided around the display screen or on the side of the apparatus, and operations such as selection and determination of selection items and messages displayed on the screen (hereinafter, abbreviated as “selection / determination operation”). Is performed using this operation unit to reduce the size of the apparatus.
[0003]
On the other hand, the use of a portable information processing device to perform not only reception but also transmission has been rapidly increasing in recent years. When inputting characters in a conventional device, characters are selected and input by the above-described selection / decision operation, or input with a pen from a display screen provided with a transparent touch panel. However, character input by these methods takes time. It was troublesome. In addition, in the case of input using a keyboard, a sufficient area for providing a keyboard cannot be secured on the surface of the device because the size of the device must be reduced, so that the keys are inevitably reduced in size and the pitch between the keys is reduced. There was a problem that key input was difficult.

[0009]
The present invention has been made in view of such a conventional problem, and its purpose is not only when operating with one hand but also when operating with being placed on a desk or the like. It is an object of the present invention to provide an information processing apparatus that allows easy operation of the unit and allows the user to operate while visually recognizing.
[0010]
It is another object of the present invention to provide an information processing apparatus that can easily perform keyboard input and that can be easily operated by supporting the apparatus with one hand when performing a selection / decision operation.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to the present invention, a first housing provided with an input unit, a second housing provided with a screen display unit on one surface side, and the first housing and the second housing are provided. An information processing apparatus comprising: a hinge portion to be connected; and an operation portion for performing an operation related to control of screen display content, wherein the hinge portion opens and closes the second housing with respect to the first housing. An axis and a rotation axis perpendicular to the opening / closing axis for rotating the second housing, wherein the screen display unit faces the input unit with respect to the first housing. The first state in which the second housing is opened, and the second housing is connected to the first housing such that the surface of the second housing opposite to the screen display unit faces the surface of the input unit. The first housing and the second housing are connected to each other so as to be selectable between a second state overlapping with the second housing, and the operation unit is provided on an opening / closing shaft. The information processing apparatus is provided, wherein.
[0012]
Here, from the viewpoint of facilitating keyboard input and facilitating selection / decision operations, a control unit for controlling screen display of the screen display unit is further provided, and the first state and the second state are switched. It is preferable that the control unit rotates the screen display by 90 ° between the first state and the second state based on a detection signal from a detection unit that detects a state change of the device. .
[0013]
Further, from the viewpoint of further improving the convenience of the user, a second screen display unit may be further provided on the second housing on the side opposite to the screen display unit.
[0014]
From the viewpoint of improving the operability and portability of the device, it is preferable that the second housing and the hinge part be within the plane area of the first housing in a plan view in the second state. It is desirable that the shape of the first housing in a plan view is rectangular, the length in the short direction is in the range of 70 to 100 mm, and the length in the long direction is in the range of 110 to 150 mm. In consideration of the relationship between the magnitude of the rotational moment applied to the second housing and the strength of the hinge, the ratio of the length of the hinge to the second housing in the lateral direction in plan view in the second state is determined. It is preferred to be in the range of 1: 5 to 1: 8.
[0015]
A rotation prohibition input unit for prohibiting the 90-degree rotation function of the screen display may be further provided in consideration of various usage states of the user.
[0016]
In the second state, from the viewpoint of preventing the housing from bending due to the pressing force applied to the second housing and erroneous input from the input unit of the first housing, at least a part of the input unit in the second state is used. May be invalidated, and in this case, it is preferable to invalidate an input from an input portion that is located on the edge of the first housing and away from the hinge portion.
[0017]
In order to effectively utilize the display area of the screen display unit and to make the screen display easier for the user to see, when the screen display unit is rectangular, the screen display unit is switched between the first state and the second state. It is preferable to perform a line feed process on the screen display content according to the change in the vertical and horizontal lengths.
[0018]
Further, from the viewpoint of widening the use of the device, the detecting means may detect the second state.
[0019]
From the viewpoint of convenience for the user, the state change of the device is detected using two or more detection means, and the screen display unit of the second housing is arranged so that the surface of the screen display unit faces the surface of the input unit. It is preferable to detect the non-use state where the second housing overlaps the first housing, and to turn off the screen display unit when the apparatus is in the non-use state.
[0020]
Here, in order not to impair the aesthetic appearance of the device, the installation position of the detection means is preferably a connecting portion between the first housing and the second housing which is hard to be seen by the user. Alternatively, a Hall element may be used as the detecting means.
[0021]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
