本発明は、インクジェット記録装置のヘッドクリーニング方法に関する。

従来から、ネットワークに接続されたインクジェット記録装置のヘッドの目詰まりで印刷不良が発生した場合、パソコンやワークステーションなどのホストコンピュータからプリンタに対してヘッドクリーニングを指示する機能があった。

しかし、インクが僅少状態の時にヘッドクリーニングをするとインクの残量がなくなり印刷を実行できなくなる問題があった。

本発明は上記従来例に鑑みてなされもので、ヘッドクリーニングで指定されたヘッド色のインク残量が僅少状態の場合、当該色のノズルのクリーニングを行わずインクが存在するヘッドのみをクリーニングしインクの消費量を節約することを目的とする。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上記目的を達成するために、請求項1記載のインクジェット記録装置は、外部装置から送られたコマンドを解析し、コマンドがヘッドクリーニングコマンドであった場合、指定色のインク残量を検知する検知手段とヘッドをクリーニングするクリーニング手段を備えインク残量がない場合と僅少状態の場合、指定された色のノズルをクリーニングせずにインクの消費量を削減することを特徴とする。

以上詳細に説明したように、本発明によれば指定されたヘッド色のインク残量が少ない状態の時にヘッドのクリーニング要求があった場合、ヘッドをクリーニングを行わずインクの消費量を削減し、印刷可能状態のインクを残す効果がある。
