TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical pickup device equipped with a semiconductor laser and a laser driver IC for driving the semiconductor laser, and for reproducing or recording information by rotating a disk-shaped disk as a recording medium, and dissipating heat by a heat radiation member. The present invention relates to a heat radiation structure technology that utilizes air cooling by rotation of a recording medium side, and in particular, radiates heat of a laser driver IC itself that generates a large amount of heat and lowers the temperature inside an optical case supporting and supporting an optical member and a photodetector.
[0002]
[Prior art]
When reproducing information from an optical disk or recording information, especially at the time of recording, a semiconductor laser or a laser driver IC mounted on an optical pickup becomes extremely hot. In particular, the laser driver IC needs to be arranged close to the semiconductor laser due to problems such as waveform response characteristics. The performance may be degraded or the service life may be shortened, which may have an adverse effect. In addition, an increase in the temperature inside the pickup device may have an adverse effect on optical performance and reduce the reliability of the optical pickup device itself.
[0003]
In the conventional optical pickup device, the heat generated from the laser driver IC is connected to the surface of the laser driver IC and the optical case via a heat conducting member on a leaf spring, and is released to the optical case side, and the temperature inside the laser driver IC and the device is reduced. The temperature is kept below the operation guarantee temperature (see Patent Documents 1 and 2).

[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, higher recording speeds require higher recording power, and the heat generation of semiconductor lasers and laser driver ICs is increasing, and the temperature rise of the optical case is also increasing, resulting in deterioration of optical performance. It is in the direction of going. In addition, as the size of the optical pickup device is reduced, the volume of the optical case serving as a heat radiation base is reduced, so that a heat radiation effect cannot be expected.
On the other hand, optical components are bonded with ultraviolet curing resin so as not to give distortion to the optical components. However, the characteristics of the ultraviolet curing resin deteriorate due to the high temperature of the optical case, and there are problems such as signal shift to the photodetector. Will cause. In particular, recording-type optical pickups require better optical characteristics, and the distortion of the optical components greatly affects the optical characteristics, and no improvement can be expected simply by improving and selecting the ultraviolet curing resin.
[0006]
An example of performance degradation of a conventional optical pickup device due to a temperature change will be described using a focus signal level and balance, which are optical performance guidelines when data is recorded on a recording medium.
FIG. 2 shows a characteristic diagram of a focus error signal in a conventional optical disk device in a normal temperature state. In the figure, the horizontal axis represents time t, and the vertical axis represents an S-shaped focus error signal. FIG. 3 is a characteristic diagram showing a characteristic change due to a temperature change of the focus error signal of FIG. The horizontal axis and the vertical axis are the same as in FIG.
When the temperature around the laser driver IC is room temperature, the upper and lower characteristic curves of the focus error signal are substantially symmetric as shown in FIG. However, when the ambient temperature of the laser driver IC is as high as 60 ° C., as shown in FIG. 3, the focus error signal has a vertically asymmetric waveform shape and a different amplitude. Such a high temperature may cause a problem such as a reduction in the level of the focus signal or a loss of balance. This is because the temperature of the optical case rises due to the ambient temperature of the drive and the temperature of each mounted component, the bonding state of the optical component mounted on the optical case and the photodetector changes, and the component moves, This is caused by a change in the optical system due to a difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion between components.
[0007]
In addition, the semiconductor laser causes a change in the wavelength of a laser beam emitted due to a change in temperature, which affects the shape of a light spot irradiated on the recording medium surface, and induces noise, thereby deteriorating the recording / reproducing characteristics of the optical pickup device. It becomes a factor. In addition to the heat generated by the semiconductor laser itself and the heat generated by the drive itself, it is also affected by the heat generated by the laser driver IC. Become.
[0008]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An object of the present invention is to solve the above-described problems, and to provide a reliable optical pickup device that improves heat dissipation without hindering downsizing, thinning, and high-speed operation. It is in.
[0009]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a laser driver IC for driving a semiconductor laser, which is connected to and disposed on a flexible substrate disposed on an optical case, and dissipates heat generated from the laser driver IC to the package surface of the laser driver IC. A structure in which the cooling medium is released via a metal heat radiating member, and the heat radiating member is in contact with and fixed to the surface of the laser driver IC package, and is disposed on the recording medium side so that air cooling is promoted by rotation of the recording medium. I have to.
[0010]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described using examples and with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is a plan view showing an embodiment of the optical pickup device according to the present invention.
6A and 6B are a plan view and a side view showing one embodiment of the relationship between the optical pickup device, the spindle motor, and the recording medium according to the present invention. FIG. 6A is a plan view, and FIG. Show.
[0011]
As shown in FIGS. 1, 6 (a) and 6 (b), the optical pickup device 1 performs recording and reproduction on and from an optical disk 9 such as a CD or DVD, and a die casting device such as Zn, Al or Mg. The DVD-based semiconductor laser 3 and the CD-based hologram unit 13 attached to the optical case 2 are used as light sources, respectively, and light spots are formed on the optical disc 9 via optical components constituting each optical system to record or record. Perform playback. As for the reproduction signal, a reflection information signal from the optical disk 9 is detected by the photodetector 15 and converted into an electric signal. Fluctuations in information on the optical disk 9, such as surface deviation or eccentricity, are tracked by an actuator 6 equipped with an objective lens 5.
The actuator 6 is composed of a movable part on which the objective lens 5 is mounted and a fixed part which arranges a magnet on the yoke 7 to form a magnetic circuit. It is fixed with cured resin.
[0012]
The DVD semiconductor laser 3 and the CD hologram unit 13 emit light under a specified oscillation condition by a laser driver IC 11 electrically connected and mounted on the flexible substrate 8. These oscillation conditions are based on a strategy for forming a recording mark to be recorded on the recording medium 9. As the recording speed increases, the load capacity needs to be reduced, and the distance is required to be as close as possible.
In addition, the laser driver IC 11 generates a large amount of heat internally to generate various control signals, and also generates a large amount of heat because an adjacent light source requires a high output as the speed increases. However, in general, the lifetime of a semiconductor laser is reduced to about 1/2 when the temperature rises empirically by 10 ° C., and there is no margin in the guaranteed temperature. Therefore, a rise in temperature other than self-heating causes deterioration of the lifetime. Further, among various characteristics of the semiconductor laser, a wavelength variation, an IL curve (current VS output), and the like are affected by a temperature change, which impairs the recording quality of the drive.
[0013]
Therefore, conventionally, each heat is transferred to the optical case 2 and used within the rating of the component.
For example, conventionally, as described in Patent Document 1, a laser driver IC surface of an optical pickup and an optical case are connected to each other via a heat conductive member on a leaf spring and released to the optical case side, and a laser driver IC and an apparatus are provided. The internal temperature is kept below the operation guaranteed temperature.
However, the optical case 2 is downsized due to the common use of the small size, and there is no way for heat to escape. On the contrary, the heat generation amount of the light source represented by the DVD semiconductor laser 3 and the CD hologram unit 13 increases due to the high speed. In addition, the amount of heat generated by the laser driver IC 11 for driving it increases, and the temperature of the entire optical pickup device 1 increases. Therefore, components such as an optical component and a photodetector, which are bonded and mounted on the optical case 2 with an ultraviolet curable resin, move due to a rise in temperature, and it is difficult to ensure reliable performance.
As described above, FIG. 2 shows the focus error signal in the normal temperature state, and the signal is detected almost vertically symmetrically with respect to the GND level. On the other hand, FIG. 3 shows a focus error in a state where the drive ambient temperature is as high as 60 ° C., and the detected signal is vertically unbalanced and the signal level is lowered.
The relationship between the balance (symmetry) of the focus error signal and the level (amplitude) of the focus error signal and the temperature of the optical case 2 (P case) will be described with reference to FIGS. 4 and 5. .
[0014]
FIG. 4 is a characteristic diagram showing the balance between the temperature of the optical case and the S-shaped focus error signal. The horizontal axis represents the temperature (° C.) of the optical case, and the vertical axis represents the balance of the focus error signal (SCB: S Curve Balance). ).
FIG. 5 is a characteristic diagram showing the temperature of the optical case and the lower level of the S-shaped focus error signal. The horizontal axis represents the temperature (° C.) of the optical case, and the vertical axis represents the focus error signal level (SCL: SCL). Curve Level).
As shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, as the temperature of the optical case rises, an imbalance in the focus error signal and a decrease in the level of the lower focus error signal occur.
In these, the temperature of the optical case 2 rises due to the heat generated by the laser driver IC 11 and the semiconductor laser 3 in addition to the ambient temperature rise, the optical components mounted thereon move, and the light incident on the photodetector 15 becomes the target. This is due to displacement from the position.
[0015]
As described above, in order to improve the temperature of the optical case and improve the unbalance and the level decrease of the focus error signal, the optical pickup device is configured as shown in FIGS. The configuration was as shown in FIG.
FIG. 7 is an exploded perspective view showing one embodiment of the heat radiation structure of the optical pickup device according to the present invention. FIG. 8 is a perspective view showing one embodiment of the heat radiation member according to the present invention.
[0016]
In the embodiment of the present invention, as shown in FIGS. 1, 6 (a) and 6 (b), the heat radiating member 4 formed of a material having good heat radiating property such as a metal is made to face the recording medium 9. Further, the heat radiating member 4 is arranged near the recording medium 9 and cooled by the air flow generated when the recording medium 9 is rotated by the spindle motor 10 of the optical disk drive. As described above, in this embodiment, the heat of the laser driver IC 11 is not transferred to the optical case 2 but is radiated to the recording medium 9.
[0017]
More specifically, as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, the heat radiating member 4 has the heat radiating pieces 4 a, 4 b, and 4 c configured in a U-shape. Further, the flexible substrate 8 is disposed on the optical case 2, and the laser driver IC 11 is mounted on the flexible substrate 8. A heat conductive sheet 12 is provided between the laser driver IC 11 and the heat radiating piece 4a of the heat radiating member 4, and when the laser driver IC 11 and the heat radiating piece 4a of the heat radiating member 4 are brought into close contact with each other, an assembly error can be absorbed and an efficient structure can be achieved. It is possible to do.
[0018]
Further, as shown in FIG. 8, the heat radiating member 4 is formed by integrally forming heat radiating pieces 4a to 4c, and is connected to the optical case 2 by fastening screws 17a and 17b. The heat can be radiated to the optical case 2 and cooled. Further, the heat of the laser driver IC 11 can be radiated to the actuator yoke 7 via the actuator spring 14 and cooled.
[0019]
As described above, according to the present invention, the heat generated from the laser driver IC can be quickly radiated through the radiator plate, so that the laser driver IC can be used without exceeding the junction temperature. . Further, even if the semiconductor laser is arranged close to the semiconductor laser, the characteristics of the semiconductor laser can be prevented from being deteriorated by the heat of the laser driver IC.
Further, the heat of the laser driver IC is not transmitted to the optical case, and the instability of the bonding of the optical components is not caused, so that the signal can be detected reliably. Further, the heat of the heat generating member including the laser can be cooled by the air rotation effect, and the temperature rise of the entire optical pickup can be suppressed. In addition, the cooling effect by rotating the recording medium enhances the heat radiation effect. Particularly, for high-speed recording, the number of rotations of the recording medium increases, and the heat radiation effect is further enhanced.
Further, the cooling effect due to the rotation of the recording medium can contribute to the heat radiation of other heat generating elements, for example, the self-heating of the semiconductor laser by fastening the heat radiating plate to the optical case and the actuator yoke.
Further, the heat dissipation structure according to the present invention prevents the optical case itself of the optical pickup from becoming large and can be arranged on the optical case, so that it is also effective in reducing the size of the optical pickup.
As described above, it is possible to suppress an increase in the temperature of the entire pickup device, and to provide an optical pickup device that can cope with miniaturization, thinning, and high speed.
[0020]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, the heat generated from the laser driver IC can be quickly radiated through the radiator plate.
Further, the heat of the heat generating member including the laser can be cooled by the air rotation effect, and the temperature rise of the entire optical pickup can be suppressed.
