[Industrial applications]
The present invention relates to a solid polymer fuel cell using a solid polymer membrane as an electrolyte, a solid polymer fuel cell provided with the same, and a mobile body equipped with such a solid polymer fuel cell. In particular, the present invention relates to a method of optimizing a flow direction and a flow region of a reaction gas so that water retention of a membrane electrode assembly contributing to power generation performance can be made uniform.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Generally, a fuel cell is a device that directly converts chemical energy of a fuel into electric energy by electrochemically reacting a fuel gas containing hydrogen or the like with an oxidizing gas. Fuel cells are classified into various types according to differences in electrolytes and the like, and as one of them, a polymer electrolyte fuel cell using a polymer electrolyte membrane as an electrolyte is known. In such a fuel cell, an electromotive force is generated by the following reaction.
[0003]
Embedded image
[0004]
When the fuel gas is supplied to the fuel electrode, the reaction of (1) proceeds and protons are generated. In the hydrated state, these protons move through the electrolyte, here the solid polymer electrolyte membrane, and reach the oxidant electrode. The oxidant gas is supplied to the oxidant electrode, and the reaction (2) proceeds. The electromotive force is generated by the electrode reactions of (1) and (2) proceeding at each electrode.
[0005]
Here, in order for protons to move to the oxidant electrode, the electrolyte membrane needs to contain water. When the water content decreases, the electric resistance of the electrolyte membrane increases, causing a decrease in output voltage and a decrease in output power. Further, when the water content is reduced to a dry state, it does not function as an electrolyte.
[0006]
Usually, in the power generation region of the electrode, the supply gas concentration, flow rate, and water vapor partial pressure are different between the upstream side and the downstream side in the flow direction of the fuel gas and the oxidizing gas. In particular, the electrolyte membrane is likely to be dried on the upstream side in the flow direction of the reaction gas, and the electrolyte membrane on the downstream side is likely to be in a wet state. When the amount of the reaction water exceeds the water retention amount of the electrolyte membrane, flooding occurs in which the generated water overflows into the reaction gas flow path. As a result, there is a possibility that the generated water covers the power generation surface of the electrode to suppress the reaction, block the reaction gas flow path, and obstruct the gas flow.
[0007]
Therefore, conventionally, the reaction gas flow path on the supply side and the reaction gas flow path on the discharge side are separated so that they do not directly communicate with each other, and the reaction gas is forced to flow to the gas diffusion layer to generate the reaction gas. 2. Description of the Related Art Fuel cells that promote water removal to suppress flooding are known (for example, see

[0009]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the above-mentioned conventional technology, the occurrence of flooding in the cell is suppressed by applying a main measure to the shape of the flow path, and the electrolyte membrane located on the upstream side in the flow direction of the supply gas is apt to dry. There is.
[0010]
In particular, in a fuel cell that is mounted on a moving body and generates a driving force, it is desired to reduce water involved in humidification of gas supplied to the fuel cell due to a demand for weight reduction. Therefore, a fuel cell for a mobile body is required to have a state in which external humidification is suppressed or a state in which external humidification is not performed at all. When the fuel cell is operated under the condition of using the reaction gas whose humidity is suppressed as described above, the drying of the electrolyte membrane particularly on the supply side is more remarkable.
[0011]
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a fuel cell in which the water retention state of a membrane electrode assembly that contributes to power generation performance is uniformly maintained.
[0012]
[Means for solving the problem]
The present invention provides a membrane / electrode assembly constituted by sandwiching a solid polymer electrolyte membrane between electrodes, and a reaction gas flow on a surface which sandwiches the membrane / electrode assembly and faces the membrane / electrode assembly. And a separator having a path. The reaction gas flow channel formed in at least one of the separators is formed by a plurality of different types of reaction gas flow channels, and the flow channel is configured such that a part of the flowing reaction gas diffuses into the electrode. At least two types of gas flow paths, a first reaction gas flow path in a form and a second reaction gas flow path in a form in which all the flowing reaction gas is supplied to the electrode. Constitute. Further, at least a part of the reaction gas after flowing through the first reaction gas flow path is supplied to the second reaction gas flow path.
[0013]
Alternatively, in a fuel cell system, a membrane electrode assembly configured by sandwiching a solid polymer electrolyte membrane between electrodes, a separator sandwiching the membrane electrode assembly, and at least one of the separators, A first reactant gas passage for diffusing a part of the reactant gas to be diffused to the electrode; a second reactant gas passage for supplying all reactant gas flowing to the electrode; A first supply manifold for supplying a reaction gas to the gas flow path, a first discharge manifold for collecting a reaction gas from the first reaction gas flow path, and a second supply manifold for supplying a reaction gas to the second reaction gas flow path A supply manifold, and a second discharge manifold for collecting a reaction gas from the second reaction gas flow path, wherein at least a part of the reaction gas discharged from the first discharge manifold is supplied to the first discharge manifold. Comprising a solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell is supplied to the supply manifold. A reaction gas supply unit for supplying a reaction gas to the first supply manifold and the second supply manifold; and a flow control for controlling a flow rate of the reaction gas supplied to the first supply manifold and the second supply manifold, respectively. Means.
[0014]
Alternatively, a membrane-electrode assembly constituted by sandwiching a solid polymer electrolyte membrane with an electrode on a moving body, and a reaction that reacts with a surface that sandwiches the membrane-electrode assembly and faces the membrane-electrode assembly A separator having a gas flow path, a first reaction gas flow path configured so that a part of the flowing reaction gas diffuses into the electrode, A second reaction gas flow path configured to be supplied to the electrode; and a solid that supplies at least a part of the reaction gas flowing through the first reaction gas flow path to the second reaction gas flow path. Equipped with a polymer fuel cell system.
[0015]
[Action and effect]
A first reaction gas flow path in which a part of the flowing reaction gas is diffused to the electrode; and a reaction gas flow path in which all the flowing reaction gas is supplied to the electrode. And at least a part of the reaction gas after flowing through the first reaction gas flow path is supplied to the second reaction gas flow path. . With this configuration, it is possible to provide the first reaction gas flow channel that easily holds the water generated by the power generation on the electrode on the upstream side of the second reaction gas flow channel having excellent drainage performance. Accordingly, it is possible to suppress the drying of the region where the first reaction gas flow path is formed, and to suppress the flooding in the second reaction gas flow path to which the wet reaction gas is supplied. Thereby, the wet state of the entire electrode can be made uniform.
[0016]
A reaction gas supply unit for supplying a reaction gas to the first supply manifold and the second supply manifold; and a flow control unit for controlling a flow rate of the reaction gas to be supplied to the first supply manifold and the second supply manifold, respectively. Prepare. Thereby, the flow rate of the reaction gas supplied to each of the first reaction gas flow path and the second reaction gas flow path can be adjusted. Therefore, the wet state of the electrode, which changes according to the operation state, can be appropriately maintained by adjusting the flow rate of the reaction gas supplied to each flow path.
[0017]
Further, in the moving body equipped with the polymer electrolyte fuel cell as described above, the amount of water supplied to the fuel cell to wet the polymer electrolyte membrane can be reduced, so that the size and weight can be reduced. The fuel cell system can be more easily mounted on a moving object.
