TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an airbag for a driver's seat that inflates between a steering wheel and a driver's seat occupant to protect the driver's occupant, and in particular, a driving device configured to inflate the lower portion early. The present invention relates to a seat airbag. The present invention also relates to a driver airbag device provided with the driver airbag.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In an airbag device for a driver's seat provided on a steering wheel, in an emergency such as a vehicle collision, an inflator (gas generator) performs a gas ejection operation, and the gas from the inflator inflates the airbag, so that the steering wheel is inflated. And the driver's seat.
[0003]
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, as a driver's seat airbag, an airbag having a substantially circular front view shape that covers the entire steering wheel when inflated has been widely adopted.
[0004]
Japanese Patent Laying-Open No. 7-69151 describes an airbag for a driver's seat having a vertically long oval shape such that the lower portion of the airbag extends below the steering wheel when inflated. . By extending the lower portion of the airbag downward in this manner, the volume of the airbag interposed between the lower portion of the steering wheel and the abdomen or chest of the occupant can be increased, and the amount of shock absorption can be increased.
[0005]
[Patent Document 1]
JP-A-7-69151
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Since the lower portion of the steering wheel has a smaller distance from the driver's seat occupant than the upper portion of the steering wheel, it is desirable that the lower portion of the driver's seat airbag inflates as soon as possible, as described in JP-A-7-69151. Does not disclose a configuration therefor. For this reason, in the airbag disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 7-69151, a high-output inflator must be used in order to rapidly inflate the lower portion early.
[0007]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide an airbag for a driver's seat in which the lower portion is inflated quickly and sufficiently large without increasing the output of the inflator.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
A driver's seat airbag according to the present invention is a driver's seat airbag that inflates so as to be interposed between a steering wheel and a driver's occupant, and when inflated, a lower portion extends below the steering wheel. In an airbag for a driver's seat configured to be present, the interior is partitioned into a lower chamber and an upper chamber, and the lower section is first inflated by introducing gas into the lower chamber, and then the lower chamber is inflated. The gas flows through the upper chamber into the upper chamber so that the upper part expands.
[0009]
The driver's seat airbag device of the present invention includes the driver's seat airbag.
[0010]
In the driver's seat airbag and driver's seat airbag device of the present invention, when the vehicle collides and the inflator is activated, gas from the inflator is first introduced into the lower chamber of the airbag. Therefore, the lower part of the airbag is first inflated. Since the internal volume of the lower chamber is smaller than the internal volume of the entire airbag, the lower portion of the airbag can be inflated quickly and sufficiently even if the output of the inflator is relatively small.
[0011]
In the driver's seat airbag of the present invention, it is preferable that the gas introduced into the lower chamber is guided so as to flow toward the lower part of the lower chamber. Thus, the gas introduced into the lower chamber flows toward the lower part of the lower chamber, whereby the lower part of the airbag inflates quickly downward.
[0012]
In the driver airbag of the present invention, the lower chamber and the upper chamber are partitioned by an inner panel, and the inner panel connects the rear surface on the steering wheel side and the front surface on the driver's seat occupant side. It is preferable that the configuration is such that: With this configuration, it is possible to prevent the front surface of the driver's seat airbag from excessively inflating toward the driver's seat occupant.
[0013]
In this case, the inner panel is arranged so as to be closer to the lower portion of the airbag toward the front surface side, so that the gas introduced into the lower chamber is guided to flow toward the lower portion of the lower chamber. Good. In such a configuration, the gas from the inflator flows downward at the initial stage of inflation of the airbag, and the lower portion of the airbag is quickly and largely inflated.
[0014]
The driver's seat airbag according to the present invention is preferably provided with a vent hole in the upper chamber for communicating the upper chamber with the outside of the airbag. With this configuration, the gas introduced into the lower chamber does not flow out of the lower chamber directly to the outside of the airbag, and the lower portion of the airbag inflates very quickly.
[0015]
In the present invention, it is preferable that the inflator opening is provided above the center of the rear surface of the airbag. When the opening for the inflator is arranged in the upper position in this way, the lower portion of the airbag extends long below the steering wheel when the airbag is inflated, and greatly inflates between the abdomen or chest of the occupant and the lower portion of the steering wheel. The airbag that has been inserted is interposed.
[0016]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a front view of an airbag for a driver's seat according to an embodiment, FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along line II-II of FIG. 1, and FIG. 3 is a cross-section taken along line III-III of FIG. FIG. 4 and 5 show a state where the lower part of the driver airbag is inflated below the steering wheel and a state where the upper part of the driver airbag is inflated following the lower part, respectively. It is a side view around a driver's seat.
[0017]
As shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the steering wheel 1 is installed in a state where the driver's seat occupant is inclined obliquely upward. A driver seat airbag 10 is attached to a central hub (not shown) of the steering wheel 1.
[0018]
The airbag 10 has a substantially circular front view shape larger than the diameter of the steering wheel 1 when inflated. The interior space of the driver's seat airbag 10 is divided into a lower chamber 14 and an upper chamber 16 by a partition-shaped internal panel 12. The inner volume of the lower chamber 14 is larger than the inner volume of the upper chamber 16. The inner volume of the lower chamber 14 is preferably about 60 to 90%, particularly about 65 to 75% of the total inner volume of the airbag. The inner panel 12 is provided with a gas flow port 18 for communicating the lower chamber 14 and the upper chamber 16.
[0019]
In this specification, the up-down direction of the airbag refers to the up-down direction when the steering wheel 1 is in a posture steered to make the vehicle go straight. Further, the left-right direction refers to the width direction of the vehicle body in this posture.
[0020]
In the present embodiment, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the driver's seat airbag 10 includes a driver's seat occupant side surface (front surface) and a steering wheel 1 side. It is manufactured by overlapping a front panel 10a and a rear panel 10b, each of which forms a surface (rear surface), and stitching them along a peripheral edge thereof to form a bag. Note that the front panel 10a, the rear panel 10b, and the inner panel 12 may be joined by joining means other than stitching.
[0021]
As shown in FIG. 3, the inner panel 12 is a panel arranged so as to extend in the left-right direction of the airbag 10, and its front edge and rear edge are sewn to the front panel 10a and the rear panel 10b, respectively. Have been. Reference numeral 20 in FIGS. 2 and 3 denotes a sewing thread connecting the peripheral edges of the front panel 10a and the rear panel 10b, and reference numerals 22a and 22b denote the front edge and the rear edge of the inner panel 12, respectively. The sewing thread connected to the front panel 10a and the rear panel 10b is shown.
[0022]
An inflator opening 24 is provided above the center of the rear panel 10 b so as to face the lower chamber 14. The distance from the center of the rear panel 10b to the center of the inflator opening 24 is preferably about 10 to 30% of the radius of the rear panel 10b. In addition, a vent hole 26 that connects the upper chamber 16 and the outside of the airbag 10 is provided in an upper portion of the rear panel 10b.
[0023]
In the driver's seat airbag 10, the periphery of the inflator opening 24 is attached to a retainer (not shown) of the airbag device, and the retainer is connected to a hub of the steering wheel 1. An inflator 2 is attached to the retainer, and a distal end 2a of the inflator 2 is inserted into the lower chamber 14 from an opening 24 of the rear panel 10b. The driver's seat airbag 10 is covered with a module cover (not shown) in a folded state.
[0024]
When a vehicle equipped with the airbag device configured as described above collides, the inflator 2 performs a gas ejection operation to introduce gas into the driver's seat airbag 10. The driver's seat airbag 10 starts to inflate by the gas from the inflator 2, pushes the module cover open, and inflates so as to be interposed between the steering wheel 1 and the driver's seat occupant.
[0025]
In the driver's seat airbag 10, the gas from the inflator 2 is first introduced into the lower chamber 14 to inflate the lower chamber 14. Since the internal volume of the lower chamber 14 is smaller than the entire internal volume of the airbag 10, even if the output of the inflator 2 is relatively small, the lower part of the driver's seat airbag 10 is quickly lowered below the steering wheel 1. And expands sufficiently large. For this reason, the vicinity of the occupant's chest or abdomen can be sufficiently received by the lower portion of the airbag which has been quickly and largely inflated.
[0026]
The gas from the inflator 2 flows into the upper chamber 16 from the gas flow port 18 of the inner panel 12 via the expanded lower chamber 14 and expands the upper chamber 16. Thus, the head and the like of the occupant are also received by the airbag 10.
[0027]
In this embodiment, the front panel 10a and the rear panel 10b are connected to each other by the internal panel 12, so that the upper portion of the airbag 10 is prevented from excessively inflating toward the driver's seat occupant.
[0028]
Further, in this embodiment, the vent hole 26 is provided in the upper chamber 16, and the gas introduced into the lower chamber 14 does not flow out of the lower chamber 14 directly to the outside of the airbag 10. The lower part of the bag 10 inflates very early and significantly.
[0029]
FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of an airbag for a driver's seat according to another embodiment, and shows a cross section of the same portion as FIG.
[0030]
The airbag 10A for the driver's seat shown in FIG. 6 is configured such that the inner panel 12 approaches the lower part of the airbag as the front panel 10a is closer to the front panel. Other configurations of the driver's seat airbag 10A are the same as those of the driver's seat airbag 10 shown in FIGS. 1 to 5. In FIG. 6, the same reference numerals as those in FIGS. ing.
[0031]
In this driver's seat airbag 10A, since the inner panel 12 is inclined so as to descend toward the front panel 10a, the gas ejected from the inflator 2 into the lower chamber 14 is released from the inner panel. The air flows toward the lower part of the airbag 10 when hitting 12. As a result, the lower portion of the driver's seat airbag 10A inflates downward very quickly.
[0032]
Each of the above embodiments is an example of the present invention, and the present invention is not limited to the above embodiments.
[0033]
For example, in the above embodiment, as shown in FIG. 3, two circular gas circulation ports 18 that communicate the lower chamber 14 and the upper chamber 16 are provided. Configurations such as the number, arrangement, each opening area, and total opening area can be appropriately changed. Further, the opening area of the gas circulation port 18 may be constant throughout the inflation process of the airbag, or may be changed according to the internal pressure of the lower chamber 14 and the upper chamber 16. The gas flow port 18 may be omitted by forming a part or the whole of the inner panel 12 with a material having gas permeability.
[0034]
In the above-described embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1, the upper chamber 16 is provided with two circular vent holes 26 for communicating the upper chamber 16 with the outside of the airbag 10. The configuration such as the shape, the number, the arrangement, the opening area of each, the total opening area, and the like can be appropriately changed. Further, the opening area of the vent hole 26 may be constant throughout the inflation process of the airbag, or may be changed according to the internal pressure of the upper chamber 16.
[0035]
By forming part or all of the front panel 10a and the rear panel 10b with a material having gas permeability, the vent hole 26 may be omitted.
[0036]
In each of the above embodiments, the upper chamber 16 of the driver's seat airbag 10 inflates later than the lower chamber 14, but the upper chamber 16 is inflated after the occupant hits the lower chamber 14. Is preferred. In this case, a low-output inflator can be employed.
[0037]
In each of the above embodiments, the driver's seat airbags 10 and 10A have a substantially circular front view shape (inflated shape), but the driver's seat airbag of the present invention has a long inflated shape. It may be circular or various other shapes.
[0038]
In each of the above embodiments, the front panel 10a and the rear panel 10b are connected by the internal panel 12 to prevent the front panel 10a from excessively bulging to the driver's seat occupant side. By connecting the front panel 10a and the rear panel 10b by another connecting means, the bulging of the front panel 10a may be restricted.
