【従来の技術】
4,4’−ビス(カルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル類の製造法としては、4,4’−ジヨードビフェニルとカルバゾール類を、無水炭酸カリウム、銅紛及びテトラヒドロチオフェン−1,1−ジオキシドの存在下で加熱撹拌して製造する方法が知られている(特許文献1及び非特許文献1参照)。なお、非特許文献1によれば、収率は55%である。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
本発明の課題は、目的とする4,4’−ビス(カルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル類を従来方法より消費エネルギーで工業的に有利に製造できる方法を提供することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明者らは上記課題を解決するために鋭意検討を行った結果、カルバゾール類を4,4’−ジハロゲノビフェニル類と、パラジウム触媒、塩基及びホスフィンの存在下で反応させると、従来方法よりも格段に低温及び短時間の反応で、従来方法と同等ないしはそれ以上の収率で目的物である4,4’−ビス(カルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル類を製造することができることを見出し、本発明を完成するに至った。

本発明の一つに、上記得られた粗4,4’−ビス(カルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル類(3)を、炭素数1〜2の脂肪族ハロゲン化物、アミド類及びジメチルスルホキシドからなる群から選ばれた少なくとも1種の溶媒に溶解したのち、得られた溶液をアルコール類、エーテル類、ケトン類、芳香族炭化水素類及び脂肪族炭化水素類からなる群から選ばれた少なくとも1種の溶媒と混合して4,4’−ビス(カルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル類(3)の結晶を析出させることを特徴とする4,4’−ビス(カルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル類(3)の製造法が挙げられる。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明を具体的に説明する。
カルバゾール類(1)において、式中、R1及びR2で表されるアルキル基としては、例えば、炭素数1〜4の直鎖又は分枝鎖状の脂肪族炭化水素残基が挙げられ、具体的には、メチル基、エチル基、n−プロピル基、イソプロピル基、n−ブチル基、イソブチル基、tert−ブチル基等を例示でき、特にメチル基が好ましい。

カルバゾール類(1)の具体例としては、例えば、1−メチルカルバゾール、2−メチルカルバゾール、3−メチルカルバゾール、4−メチルカルバゾール、3,3’−ジメチルカルバゾール、3,5−ジメチルカルバゾール、3,7−ジメチルカルバゾール等を挙げることができるがこれらに限定されない。

4,4’−ジハロゲノビフェニル類(2)において、式中、Xで表されるハロゲン原子は、具体的には、塩素、臭素又はヨウ素である。

4,4’−ジハロゲノビフェニル類(2)の具体例としては、4,4’−ジブロモビフェニル、4,4’−ジヨードビフェニル、4−ブロモ−4’−ヨードビフェニルが例示できるがこれらに限定されない。

4,4’−ジハロゲノビフェニル類(2)の使用量は、カルバゾール類(1)1モルに対して通常0.1〜1モル、好ましくは0.4〜0.6モルである。

反応に使う溶媒としては、ベンゼン、トルエン及びキシレン等の芳香族炭化水素溶媒が挙げられるが、トルエンが好ましい。溶媒の使用量は、カルバゾール類(1)1重量部に対して通常15〜30重量部である。

使用されるパラジウム触媒は、酢酸パラジウム、トリス(ジベンジリデンアセトン)二パラジウム[以下、Pd2(DBA)3という]、塩化パラジウム等が挙げられるが、4,4’−ビス(カルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル類(3)の収率の点からPd2(DBA)3が好ましい。パラジウム触媒の使用量は、カルバゾール類(1)1モルに対して通常1〜10モル%好ましくは3〜6モル%である。

使用されるホスフィンとしては、2,2’−ビス(ジフェニルホスフィノ)−1,1’−ビナフチル(BINAP)、1,1’−ビス(ジフェニルホスフィノ)フェロセン(DPPF),ジシクロヘキシルホスフィノビフェニル、ジtert−ブチルホスフィノビフェニル等が例示されるが、ジtert−ブチルホスフィノビフェニルが、4,4’−ビス(カルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル類(3)の収率の点から好ましい。ホスフィンの使用量はカルバゾール類(1)1モルに対して通常3〜15モル%、好ましくは6〜10モル%である。

使用する塩基としては、アルコキシカリウム、アルコキシナトリウムが挙げられる。アルコキシ基としては、炭素数1〜6の直鎖又は分枝鎖状の脂肪族炭化水素残基を有するアルコキシ基であり、具体的には、メトキシ基、エトキシ基、n−プロポキシ基、イソプロポキシ基、n−ブトキシ基、tert−ブトキシ基、n−ペンチルオキシ基、n−ヘキシルオキシ基等を例示でき、特にtert−ブトキシ基が好ましい。塩基の使用量は、カルバゾール類(1)1モルに対して通常1〜5当量、好ましくは2〜3当量である。

反応温度は、通常50〜150℃好ましくは70〜110℃である。反応時間は、反応温度によって変化するが、通常1〜5時間程度で充分である。

反応終了後の反応混合物からは、抽出、濃縮等により粗製の4,4’−ビス(カルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル類(3)を単離することができる。

粗製の4,4’−ビス(カルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル類(3)を溶解させるのに使用する溶媒の使用量は特に限定されないが、4,4’−ビス(カルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル類(3)1重量部に対して、通常5〜100重量部、好ましくは30〜70重量部となるようにするのがよい。

以下に実施例により本発明をさらに具体的に説明するが、本発明は以下の実施例に限定されるものではない。

実施例1
3−メチルカルバゾール1.00g(5.52ミリモル)、4,4’―ジブロモビフェニル808mg(2.59ミリモル)、Pd2(DBA)3152mg(0.166ミリモル)、ジ−t−ブチル−o−ビフェニルホスフィン97mg(0.335ミリモル)及びt−ブトキシナトリウム1.17g(11.9ミリモル)の混合物が入ったフラスコを窒素置換し、トルエン22mLを加え、撹拌下、80℃に加熱して3時間反応を行った。反応終了後の反応混合物を水で洗浄し、無水硫酸ナトリウムで乾燥させた。この反応混合物をろ過後、ろ液をフロリジルで脱色した。有機溶媒を留去した後、残渣をクロロホルム100gに溶解し、その溶液をメタノール400ml中に滴下した。この操作により析出した固体をろ取して真空乾燥して4,4’−ビス(3−メチルカルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル902mg(1.76ミリモル、収率68%)を得た。4,4’−ビス(3−メチルカルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニルのNMR及びマススペクトルの分析結果を以下に示す。

3、6−ジメチルカルバゾール1.15g(5.89ミリモル)、4,4’−ジブロモビフェニル914mg(2.93ミリモル)、Pd2(DBA)3167mg(0.182ミリモル)、ジ−t−ブチル−o−ビフェニルホスフィン108mg(0.362ミリモル)及びt−ブトキシナトリウム1.16g(11.8ミリモル)の混合物が入ったフラスコを窒素置換し、トルエン22mL加え、撹拌下、80℃に加熱して1時間反応を行った。反応終了後の反応混合物を水で洗浄し、無水硫酸ナトリウムで乾燥させた。この反応混合物をろ過後、ろ液をフロリジルで脱色した。有機溶媒を留去した後、残渣をクロロホルム100gに溶解し、その溶液をメタノール400mlに滴下した。この操作により析出した固体をろ取して真空乾燥して4,4’−ビス(3、6−ジメチルカルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル1.10g(2.03ミリモル、収率70%)を得た。4,4’−ビス(3、6−ジメチルカルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニルのNMR及びマススペクトルの分析結果を以下に示す。

2,6−ジメチルカルバゾール514mg(2.63ミリモル)、4,4’−ジブロモビフェニル410mg(1.31ミリモル)、Pd2(DBA)375.1mg(0.0820ミリモル)、ジ−t−ブチル−o−ビフェニルホスフィン49.2mg(0.165ミリモル)及びt−ブトキシナトリウム569mg(5.80ミリモル)の混合物が入ったフラスコを窒素置換し、トルエン11mL加え、撹拌下、80℃に加熱して5時間反応を行った。反応終了後の反応混合物を水で洗浄し、無水硫酸ナトリウムで乾燥させた。この反応混合物をろ過後、ろ液をフロリジルで脱色した。有機溶媒を留去した後、残渣をクロロホルム50gに溶解し、その溶液をメタノール200ml中に滴下した。この操作により析出した固体をろ取して真空乾燥して4,4’−ビス(2,6−ジメチルカルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニル615mg(1.14ミリモル、収率87%)を得た。4,4’−ビス(2,6−ジメチルカルバゾール−9−イル)ビフェニルのNMR、マススペクトル及びIRの分析結果を以下に示す。

The present inventors have conducted intensive studies to solve the above problems, and as a result, when carbazoles are reacted with 4,4′-dihalogenobiphenyls in the presence of a palladium catalyst, a base and phosphine, the conventional method It was found that the target compound 4,4′-bis (carbazol-9-yl) biphenyl can be produced by a reaction at a remarkably low temperature and for a short time with a yield equal to or higher than that of the conventional method.
