Abstract
Description
【0001】
Phys.Lett.,51,12,913(1987))。

0.7<Ve/Vh<1.3

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an organic EL device used for a flat panel display, a backlight for a liquid crystal display, a light source for illumination, and the like.
[0002]
[Prior art]
As luminous bodies used in flat panel displays, backlights for liquid crystal displays, light sources for lighting, etc., thinner flat panel displays, smaller and thinner electronic devices equipped with liquid crystal displays, For liberalization and the like, thin, lightweight, and highly efficient ones have been increasingly required in recent years. An organic EL device (organic electroluminescence device) has attracted attention as a device that can meet such a demand.
[0003]
The organic EL device emits light at a low voltage according to C.I. W. Tang et al. Showed for the first time a device having a configuration in which two thin films were stacked between electrodes (Appl. Phys. Lett., 51, 12, 913 (1987)). Thereafter, the organic EL element is capable of emitting high-brightness light of about 100 to 100,000 cd / m 2 at a low voltage of about 10 V, such as a battery, and emits many colors by a combination of materials constituting the fluorescent substance. The organic EL devices having various thin film configurations with improved device configurations are being studied in the industry because of the possibility of being able to be used and being usable as a very thin surface light emitter.
[0004]
Here, the basic element structure of the organic EL element is an anode / organic light emitting layer / cathode, but in addition, the structure of anode / hole transport layer / organic light emitting layer / electron transport layer / cathode, anode / hole injection layer / Hole transport layer / Organic light emitting layer / Electron transport layer / Cathode structure, anode / Hole injection layer / Organic light emitting layer / Electron transport layer / Electron injection layer / Cathode structure, Anode / Hole injection layer / Organic light emitting layer / Electron Various configurations, such as a configuration of an injection layer / a cathode, may be mentioned.
[0005]
In recent years, the development of organic EL elements has progressed rapidly and some of them have been put to practical use, but further higher efficiency is desired. For example, in an organic EL device having a layer structure such as an anode / hole transport layer / organic light emitting layer / electron transport layer / cathode, the hole / electron carrier injection balance in the hole transport layer or the electron transport layer is improved. It has been studied to increase the luminous efficiency. For example, in Patent Document 1, the luminous efficiency is increased by forming the electron transport layer with a specific diphenoquinone derivative.

[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, at present, the efficiency of light emission cannot be said to be high enough yet, and therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide an organic EL device capable of achieving high light emission efficiency.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The organic EL device according to claim 1 of the present invention is an organic EL device in which a hole transport layer, an organic light emitting layer, and an electron transport layer are provided in this order between an anode and a cathode, and has an electron injection factor (Al / The voltage value when a current of 10 mA / cm 2 is applied to the electron transport layer / Al is Ve, and the hole injection factor of the hole transport layer (when a current of 10 mA / cm 2 is applied to the ITO / electron transport layer / Au). Voltage value) is Vh,
0.7 <Ve / Vh <1.3
The hole transport layer and the electron transport layer are formed so as to satisfy the following relationship.
[0009]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the first aspect, the hole transport layer is formed by a layer obtained by co-evaporating at least two types of compounds having different Vh values or a layer obtained by laminating at least two types of compounds having different Vh values. It is characterized by the following.

[0013]
Here, in general, the internal quantum efficiency eta phi of the organic EL device represented by the following formula.
[0014]
Internal quantum efficiency η φ = γ ・ β ・ φ f
In the above formula, γ is a carrier injection balance factor of electrons and holes, β is a generation efficiency of a singlet exciton by carrier recombination, and φ f is a light emission efficiency from the singlet exciton. Β is defined by the type of the light emitting material since the singlet and triplet excitation probabilities are 1: 3 based on the quantum spin electron relationship. In the case of the singlet light emitting material, β is 25%. Also, φ f basically depends on the fluorescence quantum efficiency of the light emitting material. Therefore, in order to increase the efficiency of the light emitting element structure of organic EL device, i.e., in order to improve the internal quantum efficiency eta phi of the organic EL element, it is necessary to control the carrier injection balance factor gamma.
[0015]
Thus, the present inventors have conducted intensive studies to achieve higher efficiency of the organic EL device, and as a result, completed the present invention. The carrier injection balance factor γ is the electron injection factor of the

[0016]
When the carrier injection balance factor γ = Ve / Vh is 0.7 or less, the electron injection is excessive compared to the hole injection, and there is a flow of carriers not involved in light emission, resulting in low light emission efficiency. On the other hand, when the carrier injection balance factor γ = Ve / Vh is 1.3 or more, the hole injection becomes excessive compared to the electron injection, and similarly, the flow of carriers not involved in light emission exists, and the light emission efficiency is low. 【The invention's effect】
As described above, the organic EL device according to claim 1 of the present invention is an organic EL device in which a hole transport layer, an organic light emitting layer, and an electron transport layer are provided in this order between an anode and a cathode. The factor (voltage value when a current of 10 mA / cm 2 is applied to Al / electron transport layer / Al) is Ve, and the hole injection factor of the hole transport layer (current of 10 mA / cm 2 is ITO / electron transport layer / Au). When the voltage value at the time of energization is Vh,
0.7 <Ve / Vh <1.3
Since the hole transport layer and the electron transport layer are formed so as to satisfy the relationship, the balance between the electron injection from the electron transport layer and the hole injection from the hole transport layer is improved, and the flow of carriers not involved in light emission is improved. , The efficiency of the organic EL element can be improved, and higher efficiency of light emission can be achieved.
[0055]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the first aspect, the hole transport layer is formed of a layer in which at least two types of compounds having different Vh values are co-evaporated or a layer in which at least two types of compounds having different Vh values are stacked. Therefore, a hole transport layer having an intended hole injection factor Vh value within the range of existing materials can be easily formed.
[0056]
According to the third aspect of the present invention, the electron transport layer is formed by a layer obtained by co-evaporating at least two types of compounds having different Ve values or a layer obtained by laminating at least two types of compounds having different Ve values. An electron transport layer having an intended electron injection factor Ve value within the range of the material can be easily formed.
