y=10.501x+909.59 …(1)

Problems to be solved by the prior art and the invention
At the manufacturing site of a polymer substance, the density of the manufactured polymer substance is measured. When shipping manufactured polymer materials, it is necessary to indicate the density, and density is also an important factor for quality control.
[0002]
Now, taking polyethylene as an example, as a method for measuring the density, a method using a density gradient tube is known.
However, the density measurement method using the density gradient tube has a problem that the pretreatment is very troublesome and takes time, and the measurement itself takes time. In other words, the density measurement method using a density gradient tube is a method in which, in principle, a specific gravity gradient is created with liquids having different specific gravities, and the density is determined from the specific gravity at a position where the sample is stationary. If mixed, a large error will cause a large measurement error. Therefore, it takes 2 to 3 days to remove air bubbles. Pretreatment is very troublesome and time consuming. It is.
Furthermore, the density measurement method using a density gradient tube is difficult to automate because of the principle described above.
[0003]
JP-T-2000-503392 discloses that the density of polyethylene can be measured from the decay time of an NMR signal by using a partial least-squares regression technique. It has not been. Further, a method of estimating the density of a high molecular substance such as polyethylene from the NMR signal only by the partial least squares regression technique is impossible, and is considered to lack reality.
[0004]
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a method for measuring the density of a polymer substance that can measure the density of a polymer substance such as polyethylene in a short time and with high accuracy, and a system therefor. It is.

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
First, a method for measuring the density of a polymer substance according to the present invention will be described. Here, the case of measuring the density of high-density polyethylene will be described, but the same applies to the case of medium-density polyethylene and low-density polyethylene, and the same applies to the measurement of the density of a polymer substance other than polyethylene. be able to.
[0008]
FIG. 1 is a flowchart showing a processing procedure for measuring the density of high-density polyethylene by the method for measuring the density of high-molecular substance according to the present invention. First, the high-molecular substance whose density is to be measured, A calibration curve is created for polyethylene (step S10). The calibration curve will be described in detail below, but the procedure for creating the calibration curve will be described with reference to FIG.
[0009]
First, a plurality of high-density polyethylene standard samples, that is, a plurality of high-density polyethylenes of known densities are prepared, and the processing of the following steps S21 to S23 is performed for each standard sample.
[0010]
The sample is set in a sample tube of a pulse nuclear magnetic resonance apparatus (hereinafter, referred to as pulse NMR), and a solid echo signal is detected by a solid echo method (step S21). At this time, the sample is maintained at a temperature at which the high-density polyethylene does not break, and at which the molecular structure of the high-density polyethylene does not change. More specifically, the temperature is set so that the solid echo signal of the crystalline component in the sample has a Gaussian curve and the solid echo signal of the non-crystalline component has a Lorentz curve. Here, the crystal component refers to a hard component in the sample. This crystal component can also be referred to as a solid component. The non-crystalline component refers to a component other than the crystalline component.
[0011]
Since the pulse NMR and the solid echo method are well known, detailed description will be omitted. However, the pulse NMR targets an observation nucleus having a spin quantum number of 1/2 such as hydrogen, carbon, or fluorine, Spin lattice relaxation time T 1 , Spin-spin transverse relaxation time T 2 (Hereinafter, simply the lateral relaxation time T 2 And the lattice relaxation time T in a rotating system. 1 Various relaxation times such as ρ (where ρ is actually a subscript suffix, but is written in full-width due to restrictions on the characters that can be used in electronic filing) can be measured in a short time without destruction. Since the molecular structure of a magnetization can be known by analyzing the molecular mobility of magnetization from the relaxation time of the compound, it is used in a wide range of fields such as polymer physical property research, food analysis, moisture determination, and quality control.
[0012]
Although the amount of the sample set in the sample tube is arbitrary, the transverse relaxation time T 2 It is desirable that the intensity of the detected solid echo signal is large also in order to obtain the value of with high accuracy. Therefore, it is desirable to increase the number of samples. In actual experiments, the sample size is 300 mg to 400 mg.
[0013]
Next, the waveform analysis of the detected solid echo signal is performed, and the transverse relaxation time T for the crystal component in the sample is analyzed. 2 , And the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component in the entire standard echo signal in the standard sample is obtained (step S22).
[0014]
That is, FIG. 3A shows an example of a solid echo signal output from a pulse NMR detector when a high-density polyethylene sample is measured by the solid echo method. The signal is a signal obtained by synthesizing a solid echo signal of a crystalline component and a solid echo signal of a non-crystalline component in the sample (this will be referred to as a synthesized solid echo signal). The horizontal axis in FIG. 3 is time (unit: μsec), the vertical axis is the intensity of the solid echo signal, and the vertical axis also corresponds to the spin amount.
[0015]
Therefore, based on the synthesized solid echo signal, the transverse relaxation time T for the crystal component in the sample is calculated. 2 , And the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component in the standard sample in the entire solid echo signal is calculated. For this purpose, waveform analysis is performed, and the solid echo signal of the crystal component and the solid echo signal of the non-crystal component are obtained. Ask for. In the case of FIG. 3, the synthesized solid echo signal A is decomposed into three solid echo signals indicated by B, C, and D in the figure.
[0016]
Each of the solid echo signal B and the solid echo signal C is a solid echo signal of an amorphous component. That is, it is known that not only high-density polyethylene but also polyethylene has two types of non-crystalline components, and solid echo signals of these two non-crystalline components are decomposed as shown in B and C. It is. D shown in FIG. 3 is a solid echo signal of the crystal component of the sample.
[0017]
Each of the solid echo signals B and C of the non-crystalline component has a Lorentz curve, and the solid echo signal D of the crystalline component has a Gaussian curve. In other words, using the fact that the solid echo signal of the crystal component becomes a Gaussian curve and the solid echo signal of the non-crystal component becomes a Lorentz curve, the decomposition of the solid echo signal of the crystal component and the non-crystal component is performed. Therefore, as described above, during the measurement by pulse NMR, the sample, the solid echo signal of the crystalline component in the sample becomes a Gaussian curve, and the solid echo signal of the non-crystalline component becomes The temperature is adjusted to a Lorentz curve.
[0018]
The process of analyzing the waveform of the synthesized solid echo signal and the process of decomposing the solid echo signal of the crystalline component and the non-crystalline component are well-known processes that are widely performed in pulse NMR. It should be used.
[0019]
As described above, the waveform of the synthesized solid echo signal obtained from the pulse NMR detector is analyzed to obtain the respective solid echo signals of the crystal component and the non-crystal component, and then the transverse relaxation time T for the crystal component is obtained. 2 Can be requested. In the case shown in FIG. 3, the transverse relaxation time T for the crystal component 2 Was 11.66 μsec. Further, the transverse relaxation time T for the non-crystalline component that becomes the solid echo signal B in FIG. 2 Is 333.95 μsec, the transverse relaxation time T for the non-crystalline component which becomes the solid echo signal C in FIG. 2 Was 66.03 μsec.
[0020]
The transverse relaxation time T based on the solid echo signal of each such component 2 Is widely used in pulsed NMR, and a processing method therefor is also well known, and therefore description thereof is omitted.
[0021]
Also, based on the solid echo signals of each component of the crystalline component and the non-crystalline component decomposed from the synthesized solid echo signal, it is widely performed in pulse NMR to obtain the relative amounts of the solid echo signals of these components, Since the technique for this is also well known, a detailed description is omitted, but the relative amounts of the solid echo signals of these components are determined at the start time of the solid echo signals of the components decomposed as a result of the waveform analysis, that is, FIG. It is known that it can be obtained based on the relationship of the signal strength at time = 0.
[0022]
Then, in the case shown in FIG. 3, the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component was 62.9%. The relative amount of the solid echo signal B of the non-crystalline component in FIG. 3 was 7.6%, and the relative amount of the solid echo signal C of the non-crystalline component in FIG. 3 was 29.4%. Since the relative amounts of the solid echo signals of these crystalline components and the two types of non-crystalline components are the ratios of these components in the sample, the relative weight ratios of these components can also be said.
[0023]
The sum of the relative amounts of the above components is 99.9%, not 100%. This is because a curve fitting process performed when decomposing the solid echo signal of each component from the synthesized solid echo signal. This error is caused by an error based on the processing of the least square method or an error generated when the calculation result is rounded to a predetermined number of digits. However, such an error is not a problem.
[0024]
By the way, it is natural to think that the most contributing factor to the density of high-density polyethylene is the amount of the crystal component in the sample. However, what is obtained in step S22 is the relative amount of the crystal component in each sample, and is obtained in step S22 when considering the relationship between the density and the amount of the crystal component for each standard sample. The relative amounts of the crystal components cannot be used as they are.
[0025]
Thus, the present inventor has conducted various experiments to determine the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component obtained in step S22 as the transverse relaxation time T for the crystal component. 2 And normalize it. This is the processing of step S23. In this specification, the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component is determined by calculating the transverse relaxation time T for the crystal component. 2 The value normalized by dividing by is referred to as a normalized relative amount. The validity of this will be clear from the description below.
[0026]
The processing of steps S21 to S23 is performed for all the standard samples. Then, since the density of each standard sample is known, the relationship between the density and the normalized relative amount for each standard sample is known, and from this, the relationship between the density and the normalized relative amount for high-density polyethylene should be determined. Can be. This is the process of step S24, and the calibration curve is obtained by this. That is, the calibration curve represents the relationship between the normalized relative amount and the density for the substance whose density is to be measured, in this case, for high-density polyethylene.
[0027]
Then, when the processes of steps S21 to S23 were performed on the nine standard samples, the normalized relative amounts and densities were as shown in Table 1 below. The density is a known density as a standard sample, and is indicated here by a value based on JIS.
[0028]
[Table 1]
[0029]
Therefore, plotting these values with the normalized relative amount on the horizontal axis and the density on the vertical axis results in black circles in FIG. 4. These nine points are well on the straight line shown in the figure. I understand. That is, in this case, the relationship between the normalized relative amount and the density can be very well approximated by a straight line, and the straight line shown in FIG. 4 is the calibration curve in this case. Then, in this case, the calibration curve shown in FIG. 4 indicates that the normalized relative amount is x and the density is y.
y = 10.501x + 909.59 (1)
It was found to be represented by
[0030]
In the case shown in FIG. 4, the calibration curve is represented by a straight line, that is, a linear expression of the normalized relative amount. However, the calibration curve may be represented by a quadratic expression of the normalized relative amount. Naturally, it may be represented by a function. However, when actually using a calibration curve to determine the density of a sample whose density is unknown, the calculation is easiest if the calibration curve is a straight line. It is desirable to determine the measurement conditions in pulsed NMR so as to form a straight line.
[0031]
FIG. 4 shows an example of a calibration curve for high-density polyethylene, but for medium-density polyethylene and low-density polyethylene, by optimizing the measurement conditions in pulsed NMR, particularly during measurement. It has been confirmed that the calibration curve can be linearized by optimizing the temperature of the sample.
[0032]
Here, the measurement temperature of the sample is additionally described as follows. It is known that the waveforms of the solid echo signals of the crystalline component and the non-crystalline component, and thus the waveform of the synthesized solid echo signal, which is a composite of those signals, change with the measured temperature of the sample. This is because the thermal mobility of the molecules of the sample changes depending on the measurement temperature.
[0033]
On the other hand, the solid echo signal of the crystalline component has a Gaussian curve, and the solid echo signal of the component other than the crystalline component, which is called an amorphous component or an amorphous phase, may have a Lorentz curve. Are known.
[0034]
Therefore, as described above, during the measurement by pulsed NMR, the sample is brought to a temperature such that the solid echo signal of the crystalline component in the sample has a Gaussian curve and the solid echo signal of the non-crystalline component has a Lorentz curve. In fact, according to various experiments, according to various experiments, the measured temperature of the sample is such that the solid echo signal waveform of the crystalline component is closer to a Gaussian curve and the solid echo signal waveform of the non-crystalline component is closer to the Lorentz curve. It has been confirmed that the correlation between the normalized relative amount and the density increases as the value increases.
[0035]
The above is the process of preparing the calibration curve of step S10 in FIG. 1. After the calibration curve is prepared in this way, the unknown sample whose density is to be measured is set in the pulse NMR and the solid echo method is performed. The solid echo signal is detected (step S11), the waveform of the solid echo signal is analyzed, and the transverse relaxation time T for the crystal component in the sample is measured. 2 , And the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component in the sample in the entire solid echo signal is obtained (step S12), and the normalized relative amount is obtained (step S13).
[0036]
The processes in steps S11, S12, and S13 are exactly the same as the processes in steps S21, S22, and S23 in FIG. 2 described above, and a description thereof will be omitted.
[0037]
After obtaining the normalized relative amount of the sample in step S13, the density at the position of the normalized relative amount of the calibration curve created in step S10 is obtained (step S14).
Thereby, the density of the unknown sample can be obtained. For example, if the calibration curve is as shown in FIG. 4 and the normalized relative amount obtained in step S13 is x, the density of the unknown sample can be obtained by the above equation (1).
[0038]
When there are a plurality of unknown samples, the processes in steps S11 to S14 may be repeated by the number of unknown samples.
[0039]
As described above, in the method for measuring the density of a polymer substance according to the present invention, the transverse relaxation time T of proton nuclei of a polymer substance sample is measured using pulsed NMR. 2 Is a technique for estimating the density from the mobility of magnetization. Specifically, as described above, for each of a plurality of standard samples, a solid echo signal is obtained by a solid echo method using pulsed NMR. The transverse relaxation time T for the crystal component is detected and analyzed by waveform analysis. 2 , And the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component. 2 To obtain a normalized relative amount, create a calibration curve representing the relationship between the normalized relative amount and the density, calculate the normalized relative amount in the same manner for the unknown sample, and calculate the normalized relative amount and the calibration curve. Is a method of obtaining the density of an unknown sample based on Such a density measuring method is a completely new method that has not been seen in the past.
[0040]
The reason why the density of the polymer substance can be measured by the above-described method will be described below. Here, the case of polyethylene will be described.
As is well known, polyethylene is formed by linking a large number of ethylene molecules like chains by a polymerization reaction. The crystal component of polyethylene is a portion where the molecular chain of ethylene is crystallized, and it can be considered that the density changes depending on the size of the defect or deformation. That is, it is considered that the higher the crystallinity, the higher the density, and the higher the number of defects and deformations, the lower the density.
The mobility of the crystal structure of polyethylene is determined by the transverse relaxation time T 2 It is known to reflect sensitively.
[0041]
On the other hand, it is known that the crystallinity of a crystal or the degree of defects or deformation of a crystal molecular chain can be quantitatively determined based on a solid echo signal. The amount can be considered to indicate the crystallinity of the sample polyethylene. That is, the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component can be considered to reflect the density. In fact, it has been found that as the degree of crystallinity of polyethylene increases, the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component increases.
[0042]
Thus, it can be considered that the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component quantitatively represents the density, that is, the state in which the ethylene molecules are regularly bonded in the polyethylene sample.
[0043]
Therefore, in the method for measuring the density of a polymer substance according to the present invention, a solid echo signal is detected by a solid echo method using pulse NMR, and the waveform thereof is analyzed to determine the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component. However, as described above, when considering the relationship between the density and the amount of the crystal component for various polyethylene samples, the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component obtained by waveform analysis cannot be used as it is.
[0044]
Therefore, the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component is determined by the transverse relaxation time T 2 And normalization is performed to obtain a normalized relative amount, and the normalized relative amount is used for preparing a calibration curve and measuring the density of an unknown sample.
[0045]
The reason for using the solid echo method is as follows.
Lateral relaxation time T 2 In addition to the solid echo method, a method such as the Hahn method or the CPMG (Garr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill) method is known as a method for measuring the horizontal relaxation time T. 2 Is as short as about several tens of microseconds, the transverse relaxation time T 2 This is because the solid echo method is most suitable for the measurement of.
[0046]
As described above, in the density measurement method according to the present invention, the transverse relaxation time T 2 Since the techniques well-established by pulse NMR are used, such as the measurement of the solid-state echo signal and the waveform analysis of the detected solid echo signal, the density can be obtained with high accuracy. In fact, according to experiments performed by the present inventors, it has been confirmed that density measurement can be performed with a very high accuracy of 1/1000.
[0047]
In addition, as a result of performing various additional tests, the reproducibility of the calibration curve was very good, and was sufficiently satisfactory as a density measurement method.
[0048]
Further, in the method for measuring the density of a polymer substance according to the present invention, as described above, the transverse relaxation time T 2 The pre-treatment is not required because it is not affected by air bubbles unlike the conventional method using a density gradient tube, and the produced polymer substance is directly set in a pulse NMR sample tube to measure the density. Is very effective in practice.
[0049]
Furthermore, processing such as detection of a solid echo signal by pulse NMR and waveform analysis of the solid echo signal can be performed at high speed by a computer system, so that density measurement can be performed in a short time.
[0050]
The embodiment of the method for measuring the density of a polymer substance according to the present invention has been described above. Next, an embodiment of a density measurement system for measuring the density of a polymer substance using the above-described density measurement method will be described.
[0051]
FIG. 5 is a diagram showing an embodiment of the density measuring system according to the present invention. In the figure, 1 is a pulse NMR, 2 is a detector of
[0052]
Here, the case where the present invention is applied to the measurement of the density of polyethylene will be described. In the following description, calibration curves for high-density polyethylene, medium-density polyethylene, and low-density polyethylene are prepared in advance, and all of the calibration curves are straight lines as shown in FIG. As described above, the reproducibility of the calibration curve is very good according to the above-described method for measuring the density of a polymer substance, and therefore, when measuring the density of polyethylene, the calibration curve has a high density, a medium density, It only needs to be made once for each low density polyethylene.
[0053]
The pulse NMR1 is set to measure by the solid echo method. Further, the

Hereinafter, the operation of the operator during the density measurement and the operation of each unit shown in FIG. 5 will be described.
When the density measurement of polyethylene is performed using this density measurement system, it is necessary to set various parameters used for performing the density measurement. Therefore, the operator first selects a menu for setting parameters used for performing density measurement by using the GUI, and inputs and sets predetermined measurement parameters from the

FIG. 6 shows an example of the screen at that time. The screen shown in FIG. 6 will be described as follows. Note that the screen shown in FIG. 6 is merely an example, and any screen may be used as long as an item shown in FIG. 6 can be input. For example, a certain screen may be used to input only measurement setting items, and the next screen may be used to input a calibration curve selection item.
[0056]
In the column of the number of repetitions in the measurement setting column, enter the number of samples whose density is to be measured. In FIG. 6, the number of samples is nine. In the field of the start waiting time, a waiting time from when the sample is set in the sample tube of the pulse NMR1 to when the measurement by the pulse NMR1 is started is input. As described above, the sample is stored in the
[0057]
The column for selecting a calibration curve is a column for inputting data defining the calibration curve. When the normalized relative amount is x and the calibration curve is represented by a linear expression of ax + b, the term of the coefficient a includes: The coefficient to be multiplied by x is input, and the coefficient to be added to ax is input to the term of coefficient b. In the case of the above (1), a = 10.501 and b = 909.59, and these values are input for the high-density polyethylene of FIG. In FIG. 6, the values of the coefficients a and b are not input for the medium density polyethylene and the low density polyethylene, but are actually input.
[0058]
The limit value is a term for inputting the lower limit value and the upper limit value of the normalized relative amount for each type of polyethylene of high density, medium density, and low density, and the
[0059]
The normalized relative amount is a term in which the value of the normalized relative amount used when performing calibration of a calibration curve described later is inputted, and the high-density, medium-density, and low-density polyethylene types are respectively input. The value of the normalized relative amount of one standard sample selected to be used when performing calibration from among the standard samples, which is obtained when a calibration curve is created, is input. For example, when calibrating the calibration curve of high-density polyethylene, if it is selected to use the first standard sample among the above nine standard samples, and the calibration standard curve is determined to be used. Since the normalized relative amount for the standard sample is 5.66 as shown in Table 1 above, this value should be entered in the term of the normalized relative amount for high density polyethylene as shown in FIG. become. The same applies to medium density polyethylene and low density polyethylene.
[0060]
The circle shown at the left end of the column for selecting a calibration curve is a radio button for selecting the type of polyethylene for which the density measurement is to be performed, and a dot mark is displayed on the selected radio button. FIG. 6 shows a case where the measurement of the density of the high-density polyethylene is selected. Therefore, a dot mark is displayed on the radio button corresponding to the high-density polyethylene.
[0061]

[0064]
Next, the measurement mode will be described. The measurement mode is a column for setting whether or not to calibrate the calibration curve. When performing calibration, click the check box on the left end with the mouse of the
[0065]
Here, calibration of the calibration curve will be described. Transverse relaxation time T for crystalline and non-crystalline components of a sample measured based on a solid echo signal taken from a pulse NMR detector 2 And / or the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component obtained as a result of the waveform analysis changes depending on the measurement temperature in pulsed NMR, other environmental changes, and the like. For example, it is well known that the operation of a device changes depending on the environmental temperature or changes over time.
[0066]
And the lateral relaxation time T 2 When the relative amount of the solid echo signal of the crystal component changes, the normalized relative amount obtained based on the change also changes. Therefore, it is correct even if the obtained normalized relative amount is directly applied to the calibration curve. Density will not be required. Therefore, calibration of the calibration curve is performed. This calibration may be usually performed once a day before starting the density measurement, but it is obvious that the calibration can be performed as needed.
[0067]
Now, calibration of the calibration curve is performed by translating the calibration curve in the plane of the normalized relative amount-density shown in FIG. 4 without changing the slope of the calibration curve. Then, the standard sample selected above is used for this purpose. Now, for example, it is assumed that calibration of a calibration curve for high-density polyethylene is performed, and the first standard sample is selected for calibration. It will be described as if it is.
