従来のこの種の構築用スペーサーにおいては、立方体のモルタル製およびコンクリート製を針金で締め付けるか、合成樹脂製のドーナツ型をしたスペーサーが代用されているが、コンクリートの打設時に不安定で鉄筋の被覆を正確に保持することが困難で確認はできなかった。
また、立方体のモルタル製またはコンクリート製は、長期の保守管理には床面に使用した場合に脱落することもある。合成樹脂製のドーナツ型をしたスペーサーはコンクリートの打設時に不安定で、かつ鉄筋の径により多種を要した。コンクリートの打設後の被覆を確認できなかった。
