本発明は、複写機,ファクシミリ装置,プリンタなどの画像形成装置に適用され、特に静電式電子写真プロセス,定着部などからなる画像形成部と自動両面印字機能を有する画像形成装置に関するものである。

画像形成装置には、用紙の両面に対して画像形成を可能にするため自動両面印字機能を具備したものがある。自動両面印字機能における用紙搬送構成は、一般的に、用紙搬送路の一部において用紙の搬送方向を、排紙方向と該排紙方向とは逆方向へ搬送するための送り部材、および用紙ガイド部材などからなるものであり、用紙の搬送分岐路には用紙の搬送路を切り換える回動可能な分岐部材が設けられている。

前記目的を達成するため、請求項1に記載の発明は、用紙に転写されたトナー像を加熱,加圧して定着させる定着部と、この定着部から排出された用紙を排紙方向あるいは該排紙方向とは逆方向へ搬送する用紙搬送手段と、用紙搬送路に設けられて用紙の搬送方向を排紙方向あるいは排紙方向とは逆方向に切り換える分岐部材とを備えた画像形成装置において、前記分岐部材を用紙と摺接し用紙の搬送力を受けて揺動するように軸支し、さらに前記分岐部材における用紙摺接部分に用紙の搬送を円滑にする搬送補助部材を設けたことを特徴とし、この構成によって、分岐部材における用紙の摺接が円滑になり、分岐部材の用紙摺接部分の抵抗が減少するため分岐部材におけるトナー付着,堆積が抑制され、これが原因して生じる従来のような用紙上の形成画像の乱れ、用紙の詰まりを防止することができる。
