本発明は、GPS受信機を用いた位置測位可能な位置情報通信端末、及びGPS測位システムに関するものである。

【従来の技術】
特開平10−31061号では、GPS受信機に対して、外部よりGPS衛星の最新の航法メッセージを入力することで、電源投入後から最初の位置検出までの時間を短縮する技術が開示されている。しかし、この技術を利用して補足可能な信号レベルよりもさらに低いレベルのGPS衛星信号に対しては、GPS衛星を追従し捕捉することは困難である。

そこで、一旦GPS衛星を捕捉した以降ならば衛星信号レベルがさらに低い環境においても位置検出可能なGPS受信技術として、GPS受信機を常時稼動させる高感度な測位動作がある。しかし、GPS受信機自体を動作させ続ける必要があり、携帯型端末のようにバッテリー容量に限りがある機器へ適用する場合、外部よりGPS受信機の動作モードを柔軟に制御し、高感度な測位動作と通常の測位動作とを使い分ける必要がある。

本発明は、上記事由に鑑みてなされたものであり、その目的は、GPS受信機を必要時のみ稼動させる通常感度測位モードと常時稼動させる高感度測位モードとを柔軟に切替可能な位置情報通信端末、及びGPS測位システムを提供することにある。

以下、本発明の実施の形態を図面に基づいて説明する。

(実施形態1)
本実施形態のGPS測位システムの構成は、図2に示すように位置情報通信端末1と、位置情報通信端末1との間を移動体通信網で接続される位置管理兼測位サーバ2とから構成され、位置情報通信端末1は端末利用者Aからの位置要求に対して位置応答を行って、端末利用者Aに位置情報通信端末1の位置を示す。位置管理兼測位サーバ2は位置検索者Bからの位置情報通信端末1の位置検索要求に対して位置応答を行って、位置検索者Bに位置情報通信端末1の位置を示す。

本実施形態では、位置情報通信端末1について説明する。位置情報通信端末1は図1に示すように、GPS衛星からのGPS衛星信号を受信して測位動作を行うGPS受信機10と、移動体通信手段を有する通信制御部11と、GPS衛星の最新の軌道情報を取得する軌道情報取得手段、GPS受信機10から位置情報を取得する位置情報取得手段、GPS受信機10の電源制御を行うことで、GPS受信機10を必要時のみ稼動させる通常感度測位モードとGPS受信機10を常時稼動させる高感度測位モードとの各測位動作を制御する測位動作制御手段を有するGPS制御部12と、GPS受信機10の通常感度測位モードと高感度測位モードとの切り替えを行う測位モード切替手段、通信制御部11を用いて移動体通信網(ネットワーク)経由で得たGPS衛星情報から取得したGPS衛星の軌道情報をGPS制御部12の軌道情報取得手段に供給する軌道情報供給手段を有する測位制御部13と、端末利用者Aとのインタフェース手段であるマンマシンインタフェース制御部14と、GPS受信機10が受信したGPS衛星信号のレベルをGPS制御部12を介して検出する衛星信号レベル検出部15と、動作電源を供給するバッテリ(図示なし)の残量値が予め設定されたしきい値よりも下回った場合、バッテリ残量警告を測位制御部13に通知するバッテリ制御部16と、位置情報通信端末1と位置管理兼測位サーバ2との間の移動体通信網経由の通信回線を、常時接続するモードと位置検索毎に接続するモードとに測位制御部13からの回線制御信号に基づいて切り替える通信回線状態制御部17とから構成される。

以下、位置情報通信端末1の動作について説明する。位置情報通信端末1は、GPS受信機10の電源を遮断した状態で待ち受けており、端末利用者Aが自分の位置を取得するため、マンマシンインタフェース制御部14に設けたボタンを押下することによって、位置要求が測位制御部13に対して送られる。位置要求を受けた測位制御部13はGPS制御部12を介してGPS受信機10の電源を投入し、GPS受信機10は位置検出処理を開始する。

GPS受信機10は、電源投入後、最初に位置を検出するまでの時間を短縮するために、GPS受信機10内部に保持しているGPS衛星の軌道情報が最新であるか否かをまず判断する。軌道情報が最新のものではないと判断した場合、GPS制御部12に対して、最新の軌道情報を要求する。

測位成功後、測位制御部13は、GPS制御部12に対してGPS受信機10の電源を遮断するよう要求し、GPS受信機10は再び電源断状態となる。このように、位置要求によって電源断状態から電源が投入され、測位が成功してからまた電源断状態となる一連の測位動作を通常感度測位モードとする。

ここで、GPS受信機10は内部の測位演算技術によって、1度測位に成功すると、その後はGPS衛星からの信号レベルがある一定の値にまで低下しても、捕捉して測位し続けることができる。そこで、1度測位に成功した後、GPS受信機10の電源を遮断することなく稼動し続ければ、次の位置要求時には、最初に測位した時よりもGPS衛星からの信号レベルが低い場合でも、測位を成功させることができる。このようにGPS受信機10を常時稼動させる一連の測位動作を高感度測位モードとする。

端末利用者Aが、通常感度測位モード、または高感度測位モードのいずれか一方を選択して、位置要求する場合は、マンマシンインタフェース制御部14を操作することによって設定し、その設定情報に基づいて通常感度測位モード、または高感度測位モードで測位を行う。

位置情報通信端末1の設置場所がGPS衛星からのGPS衛星信号を受信しやすい環境にある場合は、GPS受信機10で受信する信号レベルが高くなる。そこで、予めマンマシンインタフェース制御部14を操作して、複数のGPS衛星の各信号レベルに対して一定のしきい値K1を測位制御部13に設定しておく。測位制御部13は、GPS受信機10及びGPS制御部12を介して衛星信号レベル検出部15が検出したGPS衛星信号のレベルと、しきい値K1とを比較し、検出レベルがしきい値K1を下回った場合は、測位制御部13の判断で自動的に高感度測位モードへ移行する。さらに、しきい値K1とは別のしきい値K2を測位制御部13に設定しておき、検出レベルがしきい値K2を上回った場合は、測位制御部13の判断で自動的に通常感度測位モードへ移行する。

また、位置情報通信端末1内部のバッテリ制御部16では、バッテリ残量を常に監視しており、バッテリ残量が低下してGPS受信機10を稼動させるのが困難なレベルになった場合、測位制御部13にバッテリ残量警告を通知する。測位制御部13はこのバッテリ残量警告を受けると、マンマシンインタフェース制御部14を介して、端末利用者Aに対してバッテリ残量警告報知を行う。端末利用者Aは、この警告を受けて、前述のようにマンマシンインタフェース制御部14を操作することによって通常感度測位モード、高感度測位モード、または位置情報通信端末1の電源断のうちから選択して実行することができる。

まず、本実施形態の位置管理兼測位サーバ2は図3に示すように、位置情報通信端末1と移動体通信網経由で接続される移動体通信手段を有する通信制御部21と、通信制御部21を介して位置情報通信端末1との間で測位制御用電文(測位制御用情報)の授受を行う測位モード制御部22と、GPS衛星情報を収集・管理し、位置情報通信端末1に対して最新の軌道情報を送信するGPS衛星情報管理部23と、位置情報通信端末1と位置管理兼測位サーバ2との間の移動体通信網経由の通信回線を、常時接続するモードと位置検索毎に接続するモードとに位置検索者Bからの要求に基づいて切り替える通信回線状態制御部24と、位置検索結果や各種情報を保存する位置情報データベース25とから構成される。なお、本実施形態の位置情報通信端末1、GPS測位システムの構成は図1,2と同様であり、同様の構成には同一の符号を付して説明は省略する。

位置管理兼測位サーバ2は衛星信号レベル応答電文を受信すると、測位モード制御部22が衛星信号レベル応答電文から各衛星からの信号レベルを読み出し、位置情報データベース25に該当する端末アドレスと組にしたGPS受信感度として保存する。そして、測位モード制御部22は、信号レベルの値が所定のしきい値以下で高感度測位モードが必要であると判断した場合、位置情報通信端末1のGPS受信機10の測位動作を高感度測位モードに指定する測位モード情報を含んだ位置検索要求電文を該当する位置情報通信端末1に対して送信するように通信制御部21に要求し、信号レベルの値が所定のしきい値以上で通常感度測位モードが必要であると判断した場合、位置情報通信端末1のGPS受信機10の測位動作を通常感度測位モードに指定する測位モード情報を含んだ位置検索要求電文を該当する位置情報通信端末1に対して送信するように通信制御部21に要求する。なお、信号レベルの値が所定のしきい値以下で測位できない状態であると判断した場合、位置検索を停止してもよい。

さらに、位置情報通信端末1内のバッテリ制御部16は、監視しているバッテリ残量が一定のしきい値を下回った場合、測位制御部13にバッテリ残量警告を通知する。バッテリ残量警告を受けた測位制御部13は、図8にフォーマットを示すようにサーバアドレス、検索端末アドレス、電文識別子、バッテリレベルのアプリケーションデータからなる測位制御用電文(バッテリ残量警告電文)を予め登録されている位置管理兼測位サーバ2に送信するよう通信制御部11に要求する。要求を受けた通信制御部11はバッテリ残量警告電文を位置管理兼測位サーバ2に送信し、バッテリ残量警告電文を受信した位置管理兼測位サーバ2では、測位モード制御部22が位置情報データベース25を参照し、GPS受信機10の測位動作を通常感度測位モードに指定する測位モード情報を含んだ位置検索要求電文を該当する位置情報通信端末1に対して送信するように通信制御部21に要求して、バッテリの消費電力を小さくするように制御する。または、バッテリ残量警告と、この警告に該当する端末アドレスとを位置検索者Bに通知し、位置検索者Bの判断で高感度測位モードあるいは通常感度測位モードを指定した位置検索要求電文を送信するように通信制御部21に要求してもよい。なお、バッテリの残量警告後は、GPS受信機10の電源を切断することで消費電力を低減させてもよい。

また図4に示す位置検索要求電文内に回線モードの情報が含まれているが、この回線モード情報は、位置情報通信端末1の通信制御部11と位置管理兼測位サーバ2の通信制御部21とを接続している移動体通信回線を検索終了後も回線維持するか回線切断するかを指定するものである。ここで維持するを指定すると、検索対象の位置情報通信端末1は検索終了後、検索応答電文を位置管理兼測位サーバ2に送信した後も移動体通信回線を維持し続ける。一方、切断するを指定すると、検索対象の位置情報通信端末1が検索終了後に検索応答電文を位置管理兼測位サーバ2に送信した後は、移動体通信回線を切断し、通信制御部11,21は待ち受け状態になる。例えば、短い周期でリアルタイムに位置を取得する必要がある場合には、回線を維持した状態で位置検索を繰り返すことにより、回線接続に伴う処理オーバヘッドと通信コストとを省くことができる。
