【0019】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention provides an optical low-pass filter in which a plurality of birefringent crystal plates and a depolarizing plate (quartz phase plate) are bonded to each other. The present invention relates to an optical low-pass filter and a depolarizing plate having the following configurations.
[0002]
[Prior art]
The depolarizing plate made of quartz used for the conventional optical low-pass filter has an appropriate X or Y cut thickness (for example, the depolarizing plate has a thickness of 0.5 mm or 1.0 mm). Was common. However, when a quarter-wave plate is to be manufactured with these conventional cut angles, the thickness of the wave plate becomes tens of μm, and this thickness is too thin to be polished, and as a result, It was impossible to obtain a quarter-wave plate having the desired characteristics.
[0003]
Therefore, attempts have been made to make the phase difference of the depolarizing plate significantly larger than 90 ° so that the thickness of the depolarizing plate can be polished. Also, it is generally known that the larger the thickness of the depolarizing plate, the more the characteristic deterioration of the optical low-pass filter for each wavelength can be reduced.
[0004]
FIG. 3 is a diagram showing a configuration of an optical low-pass filter using a general depolarizing plate. In FIG. 3, a light beam incident on the first birefringent crystal plate is separated into an optical axis of the birefringent crystal plate and a light beam oscillating in a direction perpendicular to the optical axis, and then is incident on the depolarizing plate. The light beam incident on the depolarizing plate causes a phase difference between the optical axis of the depolarizing plate and the light beam vibrating in a direction perpendicular to the optical axis.
At this time, if the light beam that has passed through the depolarizing plate is circularly polarized, the two light beams that have entered the second birefringent crystal plate are separated by the second birefringent crystal plate to form four light beams, each having the above-described configuration. The light exits from the low-pass filter.
[0005]
The configuration of the optical low-pass filter shown in FIG. 3 is intended to separate a light beam having a wavelength of 400 to 700 nm emitted from the optical low-pass filter into four rays.
[0006]
In a conventional depolarizing plate made of quartz, for example, the wavelength dependence of the phase difference of the depolarizing plate having an appropriate thickness of X or Y cut (for example, the thickness of the depolarizing plate is 0.5 mm or 1.0 mm) is shown in FIG. become that way. FIG. 4 shows transmittance characteristics when a depolarizing plate (quartz phase plate) is inserted between orthogonal polarizers. It is obvious from FIG. 3 that the optical characteristics of the depolarizing plate used in the optical low-pass filter in FIG. 3 can be obtained by considering the optical system arrangement of the orthogonal polarizer or the parallel polarizer.
[0007]
In the conventional general optical low-pass filter shown in FIG. 4 to FIG. 3, the wavelength at which the light beam can be separated into four light beams is only where the transmittance becomes 50% by the arrangement of the optical system of the orthogonal polarizer. You can see that. When the transmittance is 0% and 100% in the optical system arrangement of the orthogonal polarizer, the light beam is not separated into four light beams but becomes two light beams. As described above, at an optical low-pass filter that needs to be separated into four light beams, at a wavelength that becomes two light beams, the effect of reducing moire, which is a pseudo signal, is significantly reduced.
[0008]
That is, in order to divide the light beam into four light beams as shown in FIG. 3, it is necessary to make the transmittance when the depolarizing plate is inserted into the optical system in the state of the orthogonal polarizer 50%.
[0009]
The transmittance T when the depolarizing plate is inserted into the optical system of the orthogonal polarizer can be expressed by the following equation (1). Equation (1) below
T (%) = (2k + (− 1 + k 2 ) sin2α) 2 sin (Γ / 2) 2 × 100
Here, in the above formula (1), k: the ellipticity of the intrinsic polarization α: the angle between the transmission axis of the polarizer and the optical axis projection line of the depolarizer Γ: the phase difference of the depolarizer
Equation (1) shows that a depolarizing plate used in an optical low-pass filter as shown in FIG. 3 requires a depolarizing plate using a cut angle that is less affected by optical rotatory power. (The greater the influence of the optical rotation power, the closer the ellipticity of the intrinsic polarization approaches 1.)
When the ellipticity k of the intrinsic polarization is extremely small, that is, when it is 0, the condition that the value T of Expression (1) becomes 50%, which is an ideal value, is that α is 45 ° and Γ is 90 °.
[0011]
FIG. 5 is a diagram showing the relationship between the cut angle, which is the angle between the optical axis and the normal to the principal surface, and the thickness of the depolarizing plate serving as a quarter-wave plate, and FIG. The relationship between a certain cut angle and the specific polarization ellipticity is shown. However, the design wavelength here is 510 nm.
[0012]
From FIGS. 5 and 6, the relationship between the ellipticity k of the intrinsic polarization representing the effect of the optical rotatory power and the above-mentioned cut angle, and the case where the thickness of the quarter-wave plate is about 0.1 mm, which can be polished, is ideal. An appropriate cut angle is 20 ° ± 4 °. When the cut angle is set to 16 ° or less, the thickness of the depolarizing plate increases, and as a result, the material cost of the depolarizing plate increases, and the cost increases. When α is set to 45 ° and Γ is set to 90 ° because of the influence of the optical rotation power, there is a problem that light emitted from the depolarizing plate is not circularly polarized.
[0013]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, on the other hand, there is a recent trend to reduce the size and height of a digital still camera or the like equipped with an optical low-pass filter, as well as to reduce the weight and cost.
[0014]
Further, the phase difference of the depolarizing plate made of quartz having an appropriate thickness of the X or Y cut has a property that the phase difference greatly changes every time the wavelength changes, and this property is an optical low-pass filter. At the same time, this also causes the optical low-pass filter to have multiple image distortions depending on the wavelength, thereby reducing the effect of reducing the moire of the pseudo signal.
[0015]
The present invention has been made under the above-mentioned technical background. Accordingly, the object of the present invention is to reduce the phase difference of the depolarizing plate (quartz phase plate) by 90 ° at the design wavelength, that is, 1 /. An object of the present invention is to provide an optical low-pass filter and a depolarizing plate (quartz phase plate) that minimize the effect of the optical low-pass filter due to a change in wavelength by using a four-wavelength plate.
[0016]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides an optical low-pass filter formed by laminating a plurality of birefringent crystal plates, wherein a zero-order quarter-wave plate is used as a depolarizing plate used in the optical low-pass filter. It is characterized by.
[0017]
Further, in an optical low-pass filter formed by laminating a birefringent crystal plate and a depolarizing plate, the separation width d X (x = 1, 2,...) By the birefringent crystal plate at the design wavelength and normal incidence and the polarization It is characterized in that 1 / × d X is larger than or equal to d (x = 1, 2,...) In relation to the separation width d by the resolution plate.
[0018]
Further, the angle formed by the optical axis projection line between the birefringent crystal plate and the depolarizing plate is 45 ± 2 °.
[0019]
Further, in an optical low-pass filter formed by bonding a plurality of birefringent crystal plates, the depolarizing plate used for the above-mentioned optical low-pass filter is made of quartz.
[0020]
Further, the angle between the optical axis of the depolarizing plate and the normal to the principal surface of the depolarizing plate is set to 20 ± 4 °.
[0021]

[0022]
FIG. 1 is a diagram showing a configuration of an optical low-pass filter 3 and a depolarizing plate (quartz phase plate) 2 of the present invention. That is, a zero-order 4 wavelength plate is used as the depolarizing plate 2 made of quartz for the material used for the optical low-pass filter 3, and the angle formed by the optical axis projection line 4 between the birefringent crystal plate 1 and the depolarizing plate 2 at the same time. A depolarizing plate having an angle of 45 ± 2 ° and an angle between the optical axis and the normal 6 of the principal surface of 20 ± 4 ° is used.
[0023]

That is, the separation width d of the emitted light from the optical low-pass filter 3 of the present invention using the depolarizing plate (quartz phase plate) 2 of the present invention is an extremely small value, and the moire which is a pseudo signal when the optical low-pass filter 3 is used. Can be minimized.

[0027]
