Noise generated by the engine mounted in the engine room at the front of the vehicle (engine noise)
Occupies a large weight in the vehicle interior noise detected by passengers in the vehicle interior. Therefore, in order to reduce the vehicle interior noise, it is very important to suppress the transmission of engine noise into the vehicle interior. In particular, in the case of the horizontal engine type described above, the area of the engine facing the passenger compartment is wider than in the vertical engine type, and the engine may be arranged closer to the passenger compartment as a whole. Since it is possible, suppression of transmission of engine noise to the vehicle interior becomes more important.

As is well known, in an automobile engine, at least an upper part of a cylinder head is usually covered with a cover body (cylinder head cover: hereinafter referred to as a head cover), but this head cover is sufficient. It is impossible to expect a sound insulation effect. In other words, the attachment of the head cover is not sufficient to effectively suppress the transmission of engine noise into the vehicle interior.

Regarding suppression of transmission of such engine noise,
Although not particularly conscious of a horizontal type engine, for example, in Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 5-306651, a rocker cover attached to a cylinder head so as to cover a valve mechanism is provided on the outer surface around the opening. A belt-shaped vibration damping member is attached so as to surround the opening, a shielding member is provided to cover the outer surface of the rocker cover, and the shielding member is plastically deformed so as to sandwich the belt-shaped vibration damping member. It is disclosed.

However, in this prior art, a belt-shaped vibration damping member, which is separate from the shielding member, is attached to a required portion of the rocker cover on the outer surface around the opening of the rocker cover having a complicated shape. Since it has to be kept, the number of parts is large and it is difficult to mount.

The decorative cover 40 is fixed to the head cover 10 by inserting it through the hole 43 and screwing it in. As you can see from Figure 5,
The sound insulating material layer 42 is provided in a region corresponding to at least a main portion of the head cover 10 in order to effectively suppress the emission of engine noise from above.

As described above, the decorative cover 4 having the sound insulating material layer 42 fixed to the back surface is provided above substantially the entire head cover 10.
By covering with 0, the decorative cover 40 originally provided for the purpose of improving the appearance is effectively used to effectively suppress the engine noise from being dissipated from above and to transmit the engine noise to the vehicle interior. It can be suppressed more effectively.

In the present embodiment, the rising portion 35 is formed by bending the terminal side (front end side) of the upper wall portion 32 of the sound insulating cover 30 so as to rise upward at a substantially right angle. Then, when the decorative cover 40 is attached to the head cover 10, as shown in FIG. 10, for example, the rising portion 35 causes the sound insulating material layer 4 of the decorative cover 40 to move.
It is designed so as to bite into 2 and to abut. Accordingly, the decorative cover 4 has a very simple configuration in which the terminal side of the upper wall portion 32 of the sound insulation cover 30 is simply bent upward.
It is possible to eliminate the gap between the sound insulation material layer 42 of 0 and the sound insulation cover upper wall portion 32, and a higher sound insulation effect can be obtained.

Also, at the portion corresponding to the timing case 18 of the head cover 10 on one end side in the vehicle width direction of the decorative cover 40, as can be seen clearly from FIGS. 8 and 9, the sound insulating material provided on the back surface side thereof. An extension portion 42 a that hangs downward is provided at a side edge portion of the layer 42. This extension 42 a is provided on the cover panel 41 of the decorative cover 40.
The length is set so as to project downward by a predetermined amount Hc from the lower end of the side wall portion 41w.

The makeup cover 40 is attached to the head cover 1
When it is attached to 0, for example, as shown in FIG. 11, the extension portion 42a acts so as to fill a gap between the upper portion of the timing case 18 and the decorative cover side wall portion 41w. By adopting this configuration,
Dispersion of engine noise from above or from the side can be effectively suppressed, and transmission of engine noise into the vehicle interior can be suppressed more effectively.

According to the first invention of the present application, the side of the head cover of the engine closer to the passenger compartment is the vertical wall portion substantially along the rear surface portion of the head cover and the upper wall portion substantially along the upper surface portion of the head cover. By being covered with the sound insulation cover having a substantially L-shaped cross section, transmission of engine noise into the vehicle interior can be effectively suppressed. In this case, the sound insulation cover is locked by inserting the lower end portion of the vertical wall portion into the locking portion of the head cover rear surface portion from substantially above, and covering the upper wall portion with the head cover upper surface portion from substantially above. The opening is attached to the head cover by engaging with the engaging portion on the upper surface of the head cover. That is, no members for fastening and fixing such as screws and bolts are needed, and the sound insulation cover can be reliably held by the head cover by a simple assembling work.

Further, according to the second invention of the present application, basically, the same effect as that of the first invention can be obtained. Particularly, by covering the substantially entire upper part of the head cover with a panel body having a sound insulating material fixed to the back surface, the emission of engine noise from above is effectively suppressed, and the transmission to the vehicle interior is more effectively performed. Can be suppressed. Moreover,
Since the terminal portion of the upper wall of the sound insulating cover is bent upward and the bent portion is in contact with the sound insulating material of the panel body, the gap between the sound insulating material and the upper wall of the sound insulating cover is simple. Can be eliminated, and a higher sound insulation effect can be obtained.
