及び光沢の安定化が可能である。また、ニップ上流の加
熱部材3が面状発熱体であるので、定着ベルト2と加熱
部材3との接触面積を小さくすることなく、換言すれば
定着ベルト2の温度安定性を損なうことなく、加熱部材
3の熱容量低減と応答性向上を行い、立ち上がり時間が
短くなる。また面状発熱体の加熱部材3を定着ローラ4
に近接配置することができるようにして、定着ベルト4
の小径化、すなわち低熱容量化、省スペース化、低コス
ト化を可能とし、加熱部材3から輻射及び対流により定
着ローラ4を加熱するようにしてさらに立ち上がり時間
を短縮している。

【発明の効果】請求項1に係る定着装置は、以上説明し
てきたように、無端状の定着ベルトを、加圧部材とのニ
ップ上流において面状発熱体からなる加熱部材で十分に
加熱し、所定の温度になった定着ベルトによりニップで
定着を行うので、表層にある熱容量の小さなベルトだけ
を加熱することになり、定着ローラの表面層を加熱しな
い分だけ立ち上がり時間が短くなり、加熱部材により十
分に定着ベルトを加熱してからニップにて定着するた
め、通紙時に定着ベルトの温度が低下しても瞬時に温度
回復が可能で、温度安定性に優れ、定着画像の定着性及
び光沢の安定化が可能なものとなるという効果がある。
また加熱部材が面状発熱体であるので、定着ベルトと加
熱部材との接触面積を小さくすることなく、すなわち定
着ベルトの温度安定性を損なうことなく、加熱部材3熱
容量低減と応答性向上を図れ、これによっても立ち上が
り時間を短くできるという効果がある。さらに、面状発
熱体の加熱部材を定着ローラに近接配置することができ
るので、定着ベルトの小径化、低熱容量化、省スペース
化、低コスト化を可能とし、加熱部材から輻射及び対流
により定着ローラを加熱してさらに立ち上がり時間を短
縮できるという効果がある。

Claims (5)

【特許請求の範囲】[Claims] 【請求項1】 定着ローラと加熱部材との間に張架され
た無端状定着ベルトと、該無端状定着ベルトを介して上
記定着ローラに対向する加圧部材とを備え、上記定着ベ
ルトと上記加圧部材で形成するニップにおいて記録材上
に担持されている未定着トナー像を加熱加圧する定着装
置において、上記加熱部材が略半円弧形状の面状抵抗発
熱体であり、該加熱部材を上記定着ローラに摺動するよ
うに近接配置してなることを特徴とする定着装置。
