There is one described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 0-207979.
In this double-sided reading device, a form set in a paper feeding unit is conveyed to a reading unit by a supply unit, and the reading unit optically scans and reads an image of a front surface of the form first, digitizes the image data and converts the image data into an image. Store in buffer.

The first and second reversing units, the reversing unit, and the second reversing unit for reversing the form to the back side since the front and back are reversed to read (scan) the image on the back. Therefore, there is a problem that the cost increases because the transport path and the transport drive system are complicated by that amount.

Further, in such a configuration in which the transport path for reversing the front and back is provided, there is a drawback that a long time is required for a document such as a document to pass through the transport path, so that a long processing time is required.

In addition to the cost, the space for accommodating the optical system must be doubled, so that the size of the apparatus increases.
In addition, since the reading process of the images on both sides of the document is performed at substantially the same timing, the processing speed of the electric and software is increased, and the cost is increased accordingly.

According to the double-sided reading device of the first aspect and the image forming apparatus of the sixth aspect, the rotary member is provided with the rotary transport path and the reading sensor that constitute a part of the document transport path, and the read sensor rotates 180 degrees together with the rotary member. Therefore, the image on both sides of the document can be read by one reading sensor without turning the document upside down. Thereby, the entire apparatus can be reduced in size and cost.

Make the overall length approximately equal to the distance from the entrance of the reading entrance guide plate to the exit of the reading exit guide plate,
Since the center of rotation of the rotating member that rotates integrally with the rotary transport path is set at the intermediate position of the reading reference guide plate in the document transport direction, the total width of the rotary transport path in the document transport direction is twice the rotation radius of the rotary transport path. In addition, the rotation trajectory of the rotary conveyance path can be minimized. Thereby, further miniaturization can be achieved.

Since the entire length of the reading glass in the document conveying direction substantially coincides with the entire length of the reading reference guide plate in the document conveying direction, and the rotation center of the rotating member is set at an intermediate position in the document conveying direction of the reading reference guide plate, The rotation locus can be minimized to reduce the size of the entire apparatus, and furthermore, the rotating conveyance path is constituted only by a reading glass and a reading reference guide plate, and a guide plate is connected in the middle of the rotation conveyance path. Since there is no step portion, conveyance jam in the rotary conveyance path can be prevented, so that high reliability can be obtained.

置。A first sensor which is provided on a document transport path for transporting the document, and which detects a first one of the documents transported along the document transport path;
A double-sided reading apparatus configured to read an image on a second side and an image on a second side, wherein a rotating member that is rotated by a driving source is provided on the document conveying path, and a part of the document conveying path is used as a rotating conveying path on the rotating member. The reading sensor is attached to the rotating member so as to be able to read an image of one surface of the document passing through the rotating conveyance path on the rotating member, and the document conveying path is upstream in the document conveying direction with respect to the rotating member. A first transport roller, and a second transport roller on the downstream side in the document transport forward direction, and the first transport roller and the second transport roller can be rotated in both forward and reverse directions by a roller drive source. The first sensor reads the image on the first surface of the document conveyed in the forward direction by the first conveyance roller rotated in the forward direction by the reading sensor, and rotates the document in the forward direction. After the document is conveyed in the forward direction by the second conveyance roller and the rear end passes through the rotation conveyance path, the drive source is driven to rotate the rotation member with the reading sensor by 180 degrees, and then the A means is provided for rotating the first transport roller and the second transport roller in opposite directions to transport the document in the reverse direction, and for reading the image on the second surface of the document by the reading sensor. Double-sided reading device.
