Suspension crystallization method
The present invention relates to an organic compound which can be crystallized from a liquid compound mixture by suspension crystallization.
And a method for separating the same.
Organic compounds generally occur in the form of a mixture of compounds based on their synthesis, and
The compound may contain, besides the desired organic compound, a considerable or predominant proportion of e.g.
Also contains other compounds such as compounds, by-products and / or isomers of organic compounds
. In many cases, the desired organic compound can be separated from the mixture by crystallization. many
The characteristic of organic compounds that can be crystallized is the low solid phase solubility of foreign substances,
It is often the means of choice for separation.
The general methods of the prior art are, in particular, crystallization from solution or from the compound mixture itself.
It is a static crystallization in which the compound to be isolated precipitates on a fixed cooling plane and then
It is separated from the liquid and melted again.
Both crystallization methods actually separate the material to be cooled or reheated for crystallization.
It requires a high energy use, as it considerably exceeds the reactants to be separated.
US Pat. No. 3,777,892 and U.S. Pat.
Using a so-called washing column according to SA 387
-Generally advantageous in suspension with a better separation effect than the static crystallization method
A crystallization method can be performed.
Basically, this type of suspension crystallization method is particularly suitable for aqueous solutions such as the removal of water from food liquids.
For example, U.S. Pat. No. 4,004,886, U.S. Pat.
No. 68, US Pat. No. 4,430,104 and US Pat. No. 4,459,144.
No. 1 is known. Further according to U.S. Pat. No. 4,787,985, chemical substances
A suspension crystallization method for purifying the compound in multiple steps has already been proposed.
All of these methods (by multistage crystallization at each stage) remove the crystals by heat removal.
Freezing crystallization vessel and recrystallization to grow large crystals at the expense of small crystals
And a filter for separating crystals from the mother liquor. Few
At least the last stage filter is formed as a washing column.
Wash columns have the problem of completely separating the pure crystalline phase generated from the mother liquor.
I do. At that time, the crystal slurry is introduced into the column from below and used as a sieve plate.
It is compressed by the formed stamper, and the mother liquor is drained from below by the sieve plate.
To form a compressed crystal block above the sheave plate. Crystal block
At the top, the crystals removed from the mother liquor by the scraper are scraped from the crystal block
Melt and then release. At this time, a small amount of liquid is placed above the crystal block.
Is pressed into the crystal block to clean the adhered mother liquor.
Will be maintained. The purity of the separated crystalline phase depends on the melting temperature of the crystals and the feed to the washing column.
The strength depends on the temperature difference from the temperature of the crystal slurry to be produced. Therefore, this type of cleaning
The ram is heated to a temperature difference between 5 ° C. and up to 10 ° C. between the feed crystal suspension and the molten pure phase.
Can only be suitably operated.
On the other hand, the mixture of organic compounds is limited as far as separation by crystallization is possible.
A considerable difference between the crystal suspension and the melting temperature of the pure compound to be separated on the basis of the liquidus
It occurs at a mixing ratio that results in a significant temperature difference.
Multi-step crystallization method in the final phase of the concentration of the crystal suspension before the washing column
The liquid temperature of the mother liquor reaches approximately the liquidus temperature of the starting mixture.
Can be increased, but this results in considerable expense in equipment technology and
This offsets the advantages of suspension crystallization over static processes.
Organic compounds generally exhibit very low solid solubility in each other and are therefore
Qualitatively suitable for a one-stage suspension crystallization process.
The object of the present invention is to provide a method in which the required number of crystallization steps can be reduced during suspension crystallization.
Is to provide.
The subject of the present invention is the separation of organic compounds by one or more stages of suspension crystallization
In doing so, each step involves the crystallization equipment and, if necessary, the recrystallization vessel and the crystal slurry.
It consists of a filter for separating the liquid phase.
Return to the crystallization stage and transfer the crystal slurry to the next stage or remove the mother liquor from the last stage
Compounds to be transferred to the washing column for complete separation and to be crystallized from the first stage
Release depleted liquid and supply starting compound mixture behind final crystallization step
Mother liquor of the crystal slurry from the final crystallization step
Is slowly exchanged, at least in part, for the starting compound mixture.
This is a method for separating organic compounds.
The exchange can take place in stages in at least two stages.
Preferably, the exchange takes place slowly and continuously, i.e. constantly in small steps
It is. This can be done in a channel with walls formed as sheaves on both sides.
Flow the starting compound mixture from one side to one sieve and
The mother liquor is withdrawn through the other sieve at.
According to a particularly preferred embodiment, the channel has a ring-shaped channel, which is a concentric sheave tube.
Formed by A preferred replacement device consists of three concentric tubes, with both inner tubes
The stave is formed as a sheave. The crystal slurry flowing out of the final crystallization stage is
Flow through the core tube and introduce and mix the starting compound mixture into the outer tube.
Drain the mother liquor from the inner tube.
Particularly preferably, the supply of the starting compound mixture and the discharge of the mother liquor are switched by a switching valve.
Exchangeable. In this way, the flow direction needs to be converted through the sheave opening
Blocking is effectively avoided in accordance with the conditions.
Preferably, the exchange is such that the mother liquor carrying the crystal slurry is unsaturated with the crystallizing compound.
This is done so that part of the crystal phase is redissolved in the mother liquor. Unsaturation is
Preferably, 2-5% of the crystalline phase is selected to redissolve. This allows
This prevents the solidification of the crystal from occurring in the exchange device.
The mother liquor extracted by the exchange is fed back to the crystallizer by a one-stage crystallization method.
You. In a multi-stage crystallization process, the exchanged mother liquor is preferably returned to a previous crystallization stage.
Is done. Particularly preferably, this is used in a preliminary step for the exchange of the corresponding mother liquor.
You.
The process according to the invention is preferably performed only in a single crystallization stage.
Particularly preferably, the process according to the invention is used for the isomer separation of isocyanates.
And especially 2,4-toluylene diisocyanate or 4,4'-diphenylmethyl
Tandiisocyanate is converted to 2,6-toluylene diisocyanate and 2,4'-diph
To obtain pure isomers from isomer mixtures with phenylmethane diisocyanate
Can be.
Toluylene diisocyanate contains 80% 2,4-TDI and 20% 2,6-
It is obtained as a mixture of isomers containing TDI. The liquidus temperature of the mixture is 13.5
° C. The melting point of pure 2,4-TDI is 22 ° C. For producing polyurethane
The use of TDI in polyaddition reactions for
Isomerically pure 2,4-TDI and on the other hand 65-69% 2,4-TDI
Mixtures of isomers with 35-31% 2,6-TDI are used in various ways. 65%
The liquidus temperature of the isomer mixture containing 2,6-TDI is about 6.3 ° C. One stage
The crystal slurry of the suspension crystallization process therefore has a temperature of 6.3 ° C. Wash column
Separation of pure 2,4-TDI phase in a washing column is effective
In consideration of this, a crystal suspension of at least 12 ° C. must be supplied. According to the liquidus curve
This corresponds to a 77% 2,4-TDI content in the mother liquor. Preferably
In view of the additional requirement of a pumpable mixture having a crystal content of 30% or less,
Adjusting the concentration of this kind can only reduce the starting isomer mixture to an uneconomically high at least 50%
Crystal slurry only allowing re-dissolution of the crystalline phase of or by multi-step crystallization
To be added.
The continuous-slow exchange of the mother liquor with the starting isomer mixture according to the invention allows, on the other hand,
In addition, only the 2.5-5% redissolution which is advantageous for the process technology is allowed,
It is also possible to use liquid concentrations and temperatures for the washing column. 67% of the desired 2
If a depleted phase of 2,4-TDI containing 2,4-TDI is desired as product,
Only one part of the isomer mixture is exchanged for the mother liquor and the remainder of the starting isomer mixture is condensed.
It is sufficient to mix with the crystal slurry. Products containing 67% TDI are desirable
If the starting isomer mixture and the mother liquor are exchanged in two stages, it is sufficient
The particulate mixture and a part of the crystal slurry are continuously mixed, and then the mother liquor is filtered.
After removal by filtration, the remaining starting isomer mixture is mixed with the crystal slurry in another container.
You. Excess mother liquor can be final exchanged directly with a separate filter or on a wash column.
Can be removed from the conversion stage.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

The mother liquor depleted of the crystallizable compound is crystallized through the filter 22 and the pipe 21.
Removed from device. The device according to FIG. 1 converts 2,4-TDI to 80% 2,4-T
Separated from the starting isomer mixture containing DI and 69% 2
Suitable for obtaining a depleted mixture of isomers still containing, 4-TDI. Figure 2
1 is different from FIG. 1 in that the exchange vessel 5 is an exchange column for continuous and slow mother liquor exchange.
Replaced by 5. The exchange column 5 will be described in more detail below. In FIG.
The apparatus shown shows the starting isomer containing 80% 2,4-TDI with 2,4-TDI.
Has 65% 2,4-TDI (release via line 21) at the same time as obtained from the mixture
Suitable for obtaining a depleted mixture of isomers. All starting isomer mixtures are preferred
Is introduced into the exchange column via the pipe 6a.
In the two-stage crystallization method according to FIG.
The process returns to the first stage (I) via the pipe 8, and the first stage crystallization is performed in the mixing vessel 40.
It is mixed with the crystal suspension flowing out of the device 31. Via a pipe 41 from the mixing vessel 40
Excessive mother liquor is separated from the effluent mother liquor by the filter 47.
And return to the crystallization device 31. The crystal suspension is returned to the first stage crystallizer 1
You. The compound mixture depleted in the crystallizable compound is condensed in the second stage via line 51.
It is discharged from the crystallization device 31.
The method according to FIG. 3 is particularly useful for isomers of diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI).
Suitable for separation. MDI is 90% 4,4'-MDI and 10% based on manufacturing method
As a starting isomer mixture with 2,4'-MDI, in which a further small amount of 2
, 2'-MDI can also be present. The liquid temperature of the starting isomer mixture is about 36
° C. Pure 4,4'-MDI has a melting point of 40C. 4,4'- to be released
The MDI-depleted isomer mixture still has 55% by weight of 4,4'-MDI,
The liquid temperature is 18 ° C. Accordingly, the crystal suspension remaining in the crystallizer 31 is 18
It has a temperature of ° C. The second crystallization stage 1 is operated at a temperature of 27 ° C. This includes
A mother liquor containing 72% of 4,4'-MDI corresponds. This mother liquor is passed through line 4
It is introduced into the exchange column 5. Via line 6 with 90% 4,4'-MDI
And the starting isomer mixture having a temperature of 40 ° C. is introduced into the exchange column 5. Arrangement
Via the tube 8, the exchanged mother liquor with 76% 4,4'-MDI flows out. Exchange
The crystal suspension flowing out of the exchange column 5 via the pipe 9 contains 80% of 4,4'-MDI.
With a mother liquor corresponding to a liquid temperature of 32 ° C. Departure difference sent via pipe 6
77.8 parts of pure 4,4'-MDI via line 17 per 100 parts of sexual mixture
Is released and further via line 51 22.2 parts of the isomer mixture (which is still 55%).
% 4,4'-MDI) is released. In piping 8 and piping 49
By controlling the amount of flow, the pipes 4, 9 and 11 contain 30% solids.
Adjusted to a large amount. Solids of the crystal suspension flowing out of the first stage crystallizer 31
Its content is only 23%. In the embodiment of the invention according to FIG.
And 11 are each provided with one exchange column 5 or 35. This allows
The concentration of the mother liquor in the joint vessel 40 and the pipe 41 is increased, so that the pipes 34 and 4
1 also means that the mass flow during the isomer separation of MDI
Decrease. Separation of the compound mixture in two steps using the apparatus according to FIG.
In this case, it is possible to increase the strength through the pipe 51 more strongly than in the case of the isomer separation of MDI.
Depletion of the mixture to be released occurs. Pipes 6b, 8b and 49 indicated by wavy lines are poles.
It shows a small amount of flow, which is a specific problem to control or solve the process.
Help to apply the method.
FIG. 5 shows that according to the invention consisting of three concentric tubes 61, 62 and 63.
Shows a mother liquor exchange tube 5 that can be used, wherein inner tubes 61 and 62 are shells.
Formed as a tube. The crystal suspension coming from the crystallizer is
It flows down the ring path 64 between the bushings 61 and 62. Starting isomer mixture in the direction of arrow 6
The compound is introduced into the outer ring passage 65 and is placed in the ring passage 64 through the sheave tube 62.
Flows into At the same time, the mother liquor is pressed into the inner sheave tube 61 and
Released. The sieve tubes 61 and 6 are connected via the simultaneous switching valves 66 and 67.
2 can switch the direction of flow through
The closure of the opening can be dealt with or the pressure detected in the pipe 6 or 8
The blockage of the sheave opening is eliminated by the force change. Every time by switching
The mother liquor concentration change in the ring path 64 is in each case transferred to the downstream mixing vessel 10.
And uniform.
