Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.ディスク・ドライブは選択されたユーザ利用不可能情報を記憶する為の所 定予約記憶領域を以て製造され、前記予約記憶領域は所定記憶容量を有し、前記 ディスク・ドライブは所定記憶容量を有するユーザ利用可能領域も含み、前記予 約領域及び前記ユーザ利用可能領域は前記ディスク・ドライブの合計記憶容量で ある、ディスク・ドライブにおけるディスク上の予約領域のサイズを変更する方 法であって、 ユーザが利用できる最大トラックを読出す第1コマンドを実行する段階;及び ユーザ利用可能領域の一部を追加予約領域へ増減する第2コマンドを実行する 段階を有する、 ディスク・ドライブにおけるディスク上の予約領域のサイズを変更する方法。 2.前記追加予約領域へユーザ利用不可能情報を入力する付加的段階を備える 、請求項1に記載のディスク・ドライブにおけるディスク上の予約領域のサイズ を変更する方法。 3.前記追加予約領域へユーザ利用不可能情報を入力する前記段階は、上記追 加予約領域へ一群のウィルス・スキャン命令を付加する段階を含む、請求項2に 記載のディスク・ドライブにおけるディスク上の予約領域のサイズを変更する方 法。 4.前記追加予約領域へウィルス・スキャン命令を入力する前記段階は、ウィ ルスに関してディスクを定期的にスキャンする命令段階を付加することを含む、 請求項3に記載のディスク・ドライブにおけるディスク上の予約領域のサイズを 変更する方法。 5.前記追加予約領域へウィルス・スキャン命令を入力する前記 段階は、前記ディスクに情報が記憶される前に、ディスクに書込まれるべき情報 をウィルスに関してスキャンする命令段階を付加することを含む、請求項3に記 載のディスク・ドライブにおけるディスク上の予約領域のサイズを変更する方法 。 6.前記追加予約領域へユーザ利用不可能情報を入力する前記段階は、ディス ク・ドライブ故障を予測した一群の命令を上記追加予約領域に付加することを含 む、請求項1に記載のディスク・ドライブにおけるディスク上の予約領域のサイ ズを変更する方法。 7.前記追加予約領域へユーザ利用不可能情報を入力する前記段階は、基本入 出力システム(BIOS)の一部を上記追加予約領域に付加することを含む、請求項1 に記載のディスク・ドライブにおけるディスク上の予約領域のサイズを変更する 方法。 8.前記追加予約領域へユーザ利用不可能情報を入力する前記段階は、緊急ブ ート命令を上記追加予約領域に付加することを含む、請求項1に記載のディスク ・ドライブにおけるディスク上の予約領域のサイズを変更する方法。 9.前記ディスク・ドライブは、マイクロコントローラと、該マイクロコント ローラを作動せしめるファームウェア命令セットを備えた読出し専用メモリとを 更に含み、 前記第1コマンドは上記ファームウェアによりパスワードが承認された後に実 行される、請求項1に記載のディスク・ドライブにおけるディスク上の予約領域 のサイズを変更する方法。 10.前記第1コマンドを発行する段階は前記ディスク・ドライブに対してパ スワードを送信することを含み、 前記ファームウェアは、上記パスワードを承認すると共に前記第2コマンドの 実行を許容する、請求項9に記載のディスク・ドライブにおけるディスク上の予 約領域のサイズを変更する方法。 11.前記ユーザ利用可能領域における最大アドレスを読出して該ユーザ利用 可能領域の記憶容量を決定する段階を更に含む、請求項1に記載のディスク・ド ライブにおけるディスク上の予約領域のサイズを変更する方法。 12.前記第2コマンドを実行する段階は、最大アドレスを設定して前記ユー ザ利用可能領域の記憶容量を変更する段階を更に含む、請求項11に記載のディ スク・ドライブにおけるディスク上の予約領域のサイズを変更する方法。 13.通信的に取付けられた構成要素に対してコマンド及びデータを受け渡す バス; 前記バスに通信的に取付けられたマイクロコントローラ; 前記バスに通信的に取付けられたメモリ; 前記バスに通信的に取付けられた入出力コントローラ; 前記入出力コントローラに取付けられたディスク・ドライブ を有し、前記マイクロコントローラは前記入出力コントローラを介して前記デ ータバスによりコマンドを送信することができ、ディスク・ドライブ上のユーザ 利用不可能領域の容量を変更する、 コンピュータ・システム。 14.前記ディスク・ドライブは、 前記マイクロコントローラからの第1コマンドを実行し、ユーザが利用できる 最大トラックを読込み可能であり;及び 前記マイクロコントローラからの第2コマンドを実行し、前記ユーザ利用可能 領域の一部を追加予約領域に変換が可能である、 請求項13に記載のコンピュータ・システム。 15.前記ディスク・ドライブは、前記マイクロプロセッサからの第3コマン ドを実行し、予約領域をユーザ利用可能領域へ変換し得る、 請求項13に記載のコンピュータ・システム。 16.前記マイクロコントローラは、前記ディスク・ドライブのパラメータを 変更するコマンドを受信可能である、 請求項13に記載のコンピュータ・システム。 17.ディスク・ドライブのパラメータを変更するのは、コンピュータユーザ が利用できるディスク・ドライブ内の最大論理ブロックアドレスである、請求項 16に記載のコンピュータ・システム。 18.前記マイクロコントローラは前記ディスク・ドライブに対してパスワー ドを送信することが可能であり、 ディスク・ドライブ上のユーザ利用不可能領域の容量を増加する前記コマンド は、前記パスワードが正しいときに実行される、請求項13に記載のコンピュー タ・システム。 19.ポストコンピュータに通信的に接続されると共に最大アドレス指定可能 な論理ブロック・アドレスを有するディスク・ドライブであって、 該ディスク・ドライブとホストコンピュータとの間のインタフェース; 前記ホストコンピュータにより前記インタフェース上を送信されるコマンドを 承認し、前記最大アドレス指定可能な論理ブロック・アドレスを減少する第1装 置 を有するディスク・ドライブ。 20.前記ホストコンピュータのユーザが利用できない予約領域に充てられた ディスク空間の容量を増加する第2装置を更に有する、請求項19に記載のディ スク・ドライブ。 21.ディスク・パラメータをチェックする第3装置を更に有する、請求項2 0に記載のディスク・ドライブ。
