DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Rod Pellets The present invention relates to rod pellets comprising a thermoplastic polymer and glass fibers, wherein the glass fibers extend the length of the pellets and reduce the length of the pellets. Have. A pellet of this type is known from EP 170245. The above patent application discloses granules comprising a thermoplastic polymer having a very low viscosity. The granules are made by drawing a bundle of glass fibers through a melt of the polymer, so that the bundle of glass fibers is impregnated with the melt and then the resulting crow fibers and thermoplastic polymer Cool the strand and cut it into granules. Due to the low viscosity of the polymer, the polymer melt penetrates the bundle of glass fibers during the production of the granulate, so that all or substantially all single glass fibers are surrounded by the polymer. Because the glass fibers are surrounded by the polymer, the strands have very high strength, and molded articles made from the granules have very good mechanical properties. This is because, during the formation of the granulate into the shaped article, the glass fibers are very well dispersed and only a slight breakage of the glass fibers occurs. However, the production of pellets from EP 170245 is very cumbersome, mainly because bundles of glass fibers can only be pulled through the melt at low speeds. It is an object of the present invention to provide rod-shaped pellets which are easier to manufacture and which can nevertheless give molded articles with good mechanical properties. Surprisingly, this object is achieved by providing a pellet having a core and a sheath, wherein the core comprises a mixture of glass and polypropylene fibers, wherein the polypropylene of the fibers comprises Less than 10% by weight of homopolymer or propylene and ethylene, one or more olefins from the group of 1-olefins having 4 to 10 carbon atoms and diene having 4 to 10 carbon atoms. The fiber polypropylene has a melt index of 5 to 500 dg / min (230 ° C./2.16 kg) and a density of at least 900 kg / m 3 and at least 50% by weight of the sheath Propylene homopolymer, propylene with ethylene, 1-olefin having 4 to 10 carbon atoms and 4 Random copolymers of less than 10% by weight of one or more olefins from the group of dienes having 10 carbon atoms, or propylene and one or more olefins from the group of ethylene and butene An amount of up to 27% by weight and an amount of up to 8% by weight of one or more olefins from the group of 1-olefins having 3 to 10 carbon atoms and diene having 4 to 10 carbon atoms. Propylene contained in the sheath and having a melt index (230 ° C./2.16 kg) of 1 to 200 dg / min and a density of at least 900 kg / m 3 . Granules of this type can be easily produced, for example, by processing bundles containing glass fibers and polypropylene fibers with a cable cover unit, cooling the resulting strands and cutting them into granules. It has been found that very high production rates are achieved by this method, which means that the pellets can be produced on an industrial scale. Further, if the granules melt the pellets in an extruder and extrude them into an article, place the article in an open mold at melting conditions, and close the mold to compress the molded article If processed into shaped articles, the shaped articles thus obtained have very good mechanical properties. In particular, molded articles have very high impact resistance. This means that the pellets are very suitable for producing shaped structures. The fact that good mechanical properties are achieved with the pellets of the present invention is quite surprising, as the glass fibers in the pellets are not surrounded at all by the polymer and EP-A-170245. It is increasingly surprising as it teaches us to pretend that it is necessary. From EP-A-226,420, a flexible sacrifice composite comprising a reinforcing fiber and a core of polymer fibers and a thin sheath of a thermoplastic polymer is known, which composite can be cut into pellets. . Carbon fiber is recommended as reinforcing fiber. However, the pellets according to the present invention are not disclosed in EP-A-226,420, and the pellets according to the present invention are easily manufactured, and the molded articles formed from the pellets have good mechanical properties. What it can have cannot be derived from the document. The melt index value of the fiber polypropylene is preferably higher than that of the sheath polymer composition. This results in a very uniform molded part with better mechanical properties. For the glass fibers in the pellet, normal fibers are used, which usually have a thickness of 8 to 25 mμ. The glass fibers preferably have a thickness of 15-20 mμ. The polypropylene fibers can have a customary thickness for polypropylene fibers of, for example, 5-35 μm, preferably 10-30 μm. The polypropylene of the polypropylene fiber preferably has a melt index (230 ° C./2.16 kg) of 10 to 300 dg / min, even more preferably 20 to 100 dg / min. In addition to the polypropylene, the fibers may contain the usual additives such as stabilizers, processing aids, nucleating agents and pigments. The polypropylene used is preferably a homopolymer. Glass fibers and polypropylene fibers can be present in the pellets according to the invention, for example, in separate bundles of, for example, 400-4000 fibers. However, the fibers are preferably dispersed as evenly as possible, so that the glass fibers are as single fibers and / or up to 300 fibers, preferably up to 100 fibers, even more preferably up to 50 fibers Exist as a group of fibers with the same fiber. Even more preferably, the fibers are dispersed such that up to 50% of the fibers are completely surrounded by glass fibers. The glass fiber is completely surrounded by the glass fiber if all the fibers that are closest to the glass fiber concerned are themselves glass fibers. The core of the pellet according to the invention preferably comprises 50 to 95% by weight of glass fibers and 50 to 5% by weight of polypropylene fibers. More preferably, the core comprises 60-85% by weight glass fiber and 40-15% by weight polypropylene fiber. The sheath preferably comprises 75-100% by weight of polypropylene, more preferably the sheath comprises 85-100% by weight of polypropylene. The sheath is preferably a polypropylene homopolymer or a block comprising 94-100% by weight of propylene monomer units and 6-0% by weight of ethylene monomer units and 20-80% by weight of ethylene monomer units and 80-20% by weight of propylene monomer It includes a block copolymer comprising blocks comprising units, wherein the block copolymer comprises a total of 1 to 25% by weight of ethylene. The sheath may also comprise, in addition to polypropylene, an elastomer, for example an ethylene copolymer with a 1-olefin having 3 to 10 carbon atoms, or for example ethylene, propylene and one or more dienes, for example EPDM. It is. The pellets preferably comprise 10 to 70% by weight of glass fiber and a total of 90 to 30% by weight of polypropylene and elastomer, more preferably the pellets comprise 30 to 50% by weight of glass fiber and a total of 50 to 70% by weight of polypropylene And elastomers. In a particular embodiment, the pellets comprise 0.01-4.0% by weight of carbon black. The pellets preferably contain 0.1-1.0% by weight of carbon black. Preferably, both the sheath and the polypropylene fibers from the core comprise carbon black. Pellets containing glass fibers need to contain carbon black for many applications because black is needed for the molded article in question. However, a disadvantage of this is that the mechanical properties of the shaped articles have a lower value compared to shaped articles made from granules with glass fibers without carbon black. However, it is often surprising that this drawback occurs to a lesser extent in molded articles made from pellets with carbon black according to the invention. Any type of carbon black commonly used for polypropylene can be used. Preferably a carbon black having a specific surface area (measured according to the BET method using N2 absorption) of at least 150 m 2 / g, more preferably at least 200 m 2 / g is used. The pellet can also include a filler. The filler is preferably incorporated into the pellet sheath. This will ensure that high production rates of pellets are achieved, regardless of the presence of filler. The pellets may contain, for example, 10 to 30% by weight of a filler. If the pellet contains a filler, the total weight percentage of filler and glass fiber is preferably 25-80% by weight, more preferably 35-50% by weight. Examples of suitable fillers are talc, wollastonite, chalk, barium sulfate, mica, clay and the like. Preferably, talc is used. The use of fillers in pellets according to the invention opens up additional application possibilities. In a further preferred embodiment, the pellets according to the invention comprise one or more binders to improve the bonding between the glass fibers and the polypropylene matrix in the shaped article that can be made from the pellets. An example of a suitable binder is a propylene polymer grafted with maleic anhydride. The binder preferably has a lower viscosity than the polymer composition of the fiber. The amount of binder contained in the pellets is usually between 0.2 and 5% by weight and depends, for example, on the type of binder and on the amount and type of glass fibers. The binder is preferably incorporated into the core polypropylene fiber of the pellet. This will ensure that the binder is very effective. As a bundle of fibers, for example, a bundle of fibers arranged in parallel with 2-3 twists per linear meter can be used. The bundle is preferably made by spinning a number of glass fibers and a number of polypropylene fibers in a conventional manner, dispersing the fibers, and pouring and bundling them. Examples of suitable techniques for dispersing fibers are described in EP-A-616055, EP-A-59969 and EP-A-505275. To make the pellets, a bundle of fibers can be provided to the sheath using a known cable cover unit. The cable cover unit typically comprises an extruder for melting the polymer composition forming the sheath and an extruder head where the core fiber bundle is to be passed, wherein the polymer composition of the sheath is at the extruder head or the extruder head. Extruded around the core just outside. The extrudate can then be cooled by pulling the resulting strand through a water bath, and the cooled strand can be cut into pellets, for example, by chopping the strand with a granulator. The core fiber bundle is preferably passed through the extruder head of the cover unit at a speed of at least 100 m / min, more preferably at a speed of at least 200 m / min. When the strand temperature is cooled to 50-100C, the strand is cut into pellets. The length of the pellet is preferably 5 to 50 mm, more preferably 10 to 30 mm. The strands are preferably cut into granules by a granulator having a rotary knife and a stator, wherein there is no gap between the knife and the stator. This can be achieved, for example, by spring supporting the knife on the stator. The advantage of this is that the strands can be cut well without, for example, fibers from the core being pulled outside the sheath. The pellets according to the invention can be processed into shaped articles by customary methods, for example by compression and injection molding and extrusion. The present invention also relates to melting the pellets according to the invention in an extruder; extruding the resulting melt into one or more articles; Placing one or more articles in an open mold for forming a shaped article by closing the mold to form the shaped article. These operations result in molded articles with very good mechanical properties. The shaped article further has a uniform composition. A single screw extruder is preferably used to melt the pellets. Single screw extruders have a screw sized so that the pellets mainly melt under the influence of heat transfer from the extruder walls. The length of the screw is preferably 15D to 40D (where D is the diameter of the screw), more preferably 20D to 30D. The flight depth in the feed area of the screw is preferably between 0.13D and 0.28D. The flight depth in the pumping area of the screw is preferably between 0.08D and 0.15D. On the head side, the extruder preferably has a valve that can be closed during the melting of the pellets, and a valve and a screw tip, where a sufficient amount of the melt can be collected to extrude the article. There is buffer space between. While melting the amount of granules sufficient to form the article, the screw preferably increases the size of the buffer space as a function of the amount of granules melted and the melt is at a pressure above atmospheric pressure, However, it is preferably moved so that it is collected in the buffer space at a pressure no higher than 30 bar, more preferably no higher than 15 bar. In this way, it is achieved that the granules are well melted and that the glass fibers are impregnated with the polypropylene melt, but nevertheless only very little breakage of the glass fibers occurs. The valve can then be opened and the article can be extruded by moving the screw in the opposite direction, after which the valve is closed again. The cross-sectional area of the die at the extruder head is preferably at least 50% of the cross-sectional area of the extruder barrel. More preferably, the die cross section is equal to 75-100% of the barrel cross section. The die can have any shape. The die may have, for example, a circular, square or rectangular shape, depending on the desired shape of the article. One or more articles are preferably placed in a mold so that it is extruded. The mold is preferably closed as soon as possible after extrusion of the article or articles, thus forming a shaped article. It is also possible to produce pellets formed from a mixture of pellets according to the invention and pellets of polypropylene without glass fiber. The invention also relates to shaped articles made from the pellets. Examples of such molded articles are housings for electronic and electromechanical devices, mechanical and automotive parts, such as bumpers, beams, dashboard frames, parcel sleeves, instrument panels and seat frames. Example 1 A fiber bundle of glass fiber and polypropylene fiber was covered with a polypropylene sleeve by an extruder equipped with an extruder head for a cable cover. The fiber bundle consisted of five 630 Tex "direct rovings", each containing 75% by weight glass fiber and 25% by weight polypropylene fiber. The fibers are dispersed such that they are present in a fiber bundle as a single fiber and a group of fibers having up to 50 fibers. The polypropylene used for the polypropylene fibers was a homopolymer with a melt index of 21 dg / min (230 ° C./2.16 kg) and a density of 904 kg / m 3 . The sheath polypropylene was a homopolymer with a melt index of 45 dg / min and a density of 904 kg / m 3 . The polypropylene fiber contained 2% by weight of binder and the sheath contained 1% by weight of binder. This means that the granulate contains 1.2% by weight of binder. Polybond ™ 3150, maleic anhydride-modified polypropylene from Uniroyal, UK was used as a binder. The extruder was a single screw extruder manufactured by Schwabenthan ™, Germany and had a screw diameter of 30 mm. The cable cover head was a tube type, and the diameter of the nozzle for the fiber bundle of the cable cover head was 2.4 mm. The melting temperature of the sheath polypropylene was 240 ° C. The fiber bundle was passed through the head at a speed of 100 m / min and covered. After being covered, the glass fiber content of the pellets was 30% by weight. The strands thus formed were passed through a water bath and thus cooled to 50 ° C. and chopped into granules having a length of 12.5 mm. The pellets were subsequently fed to a single screw extruder from Messrs Kannegiesser, Germany, having a diameter of 80 mm, a length of 26D, a flight depth of 15 mm in the feed zone and a flight depth of 9 mm in the pumping zone. On the side of the screw tip, the barrel could be closed by a hydraulic valve. The pellets were melted and collected in a buffer at the extruder screw tip. After about 27 seconds, a buffer was formed with a weight of about 600 grams of molten granules. The article is then extruded in about 2.7 seconds by opening the valve, and the screw is moved to the opposite side so that the buffer is empty. The article had a cylinder shape with a diameter of 85 mm and a length of 140 mm. Immediately after being extruded, the article is placed in the center of the mold space of the square flat plate mold, where the length direction of the article is parallel to one of the sides of the mold space. The plate, which had a length and width of 400 mm and a thickness of about 3.2 mm, was then compressed. The mold had a temperature of 50 ° C. The test bars were cut from the plate at right angles and parallel to the direction corresponding to the length of the item when the item was placed in the mold space before the plate was compressed. E-modulus (Emod), stress at break (σbreak) and elongation at break (εbreak) were measured according to ISO R 527-1B, and Izod impact strength was measured according to ISO 180-4A. The results are listed in Table 1. In this table, the right angle Average value (av.) Is given. Comparative Example A As described in EP- A- 170245, granules containing 30% by weight of glass fibers were subjected to a melt impregnation process to bundle 2400 Tex glass fibers with a shear rate of 1 sec @ -1 . And prepared by chopping the obtained glass fiber and polymer strands into granules having a pellet length of 12.5 mm, impregnated with a polypropylene homopolymer having a viscosity of 150 Pa.s measured at 240 ° C. During the impregnation, the linear speed was 10 m / min. The pellet contained 1.2% by weight of Polybond ™ 3150. The pellets were melted, extruded into an article, and compressed to obtain a plate as described in Example 1. Subsequently, the mechanical properties were measured as in Example 1. The results are also included in Table 1. Table 1 Mechanical properties of granules according to the invention and molded articles from granules from impregnated glass fibers Example II Example II was performed in the same manner as Example I except that the pellets contained 0.12% by weight of carbon black. The carbon black used was Elftex ™ 460 from Messrs. US Cabot had a specific surface area of 74m 2 / g (BET, N 2 absorption). Carbon black was incorporated into the pellet sheath. The results are given in Table 2. Comparative Example B Comparative Example B was performed in the same manner as Comparative Example A, except that the pellets contained 0.12% by weight of carbon black. The carbon black used was Elftex ™ 460. The results are given in Table 2. A comparison of the results from Tables 1 and 2 shows that the mechanical properties are reduced as a result of the addition of carbon black, but this reduction is less pronounced in the pellets according to the invention. Table 2 Mechanical properties of shaped articles from granules according to the invention and granules from impregnated glass fibers with carbon black Example III Example III was performed in the same manner as Example II, except that the carbon black used was Black Pearls ™ 800 from Messrs. US Cabot had a specific surface area of 210 m 2 / g. Carbon black was incorporated into the pellet sheath. The results are listed in Table 3. A comparison of Examples II and III shows that the mechanical properties are better for carbon black with a higher specific surface area.
