Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device capable of providing an excellent image by bringing an endless belt type image carrier into contact with transfer material and preventing toner scattering due to a void from occurring. SOLUTION: A pressing member 30 is provided at a position where it is opposed to the surface K of a transfer material carrying guide 31 so that it can press-contact with the back surface of an intermediate transfer belt 10, and has a curved surface part projecting downward. The member 30 is provided so that its curved surface part may press the back surface side (inside) of the belt 10 toward the outside at a more upstream position than the transfer nip part 51 of the belt 10. The length L of the linear part of a secondary transfer part is set to L<=10 (mm), the pressing force for the transfer material 22 to the belt 10 is kept strong, and the material 22 is brought into contact with the belt 10, whereby the toner scattering is prevented from occurring.

2. Description of the Related Art In a conventional image forming apparatus, a toner image on a photoreceptor is transferred onto a transfer material, and the toner image on the transfer material is heated and pressed by a fixing device and fixed. In such an image forming apparatus, it is also possible to use an endless belt-shaped photoconductor stretched and supported by a plurality of rollers as the photoconductor. The advantage of this case is that the degree of freedom of the photoreceptor shape by the roller arrangement is higher than that of the photoreceptor drum, and the curvature can be increased by the diameter of the support roller. It will be easier.

On the other hand, instead of transferring the toner image to the transfer material on the transfer material carrier, the four color toner images once superimposed on the intermediate transfer member are collectively transferred to the transfer material and then fixed by a fixing device. There is also an image forming apparatus that performs the operation. In this image forming apparatus, there is no need to hold the transfer material on the transfer material carrier, and there is an advantage that the versatility of paper is high. Therefore, it is possible to form an image on a small-size paper (for example, an official postcard), a thick paper (for example, 200 g / m 2 paper), an envelope, or the like. Note that an intermediate transfer drum and an endless belt-shaped intermediate transfer belt are known as the intermediate transfer member. As a prior art of an image forming apparatus using such an intermediate transfer member, one described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 5-313525 is known.

[0005] The image forming apparatus using the endless belt-shaped photosensitive member and the intermediate transfer belt as described above has the following problems. This will be described with reference to FIG. FIG. 5 shows the toner image on the intermediate transfer belt 10 as the transfer material 2.
FIG. 4 is an enlarged view of a secondary transfer portion that transfers to No. 2; Since the polarity of the toner on the intermediate transfer belt 10 is negative in this example, a positive bias is applied to the secondary transfer roller 14 by the high voltage power supply 100. At this time, a transfer electric field E is formed, and the toner is transferred to the transfer material 22 by the transfer electric field E.
If the toner particles 2 cannot be brought into close contact with each other before the secondary transfer and a gap is formed, the toner flies in the gap toward the transfer material 22 due to the transfer electric field E, so that toner dust scatters around the image. For this reason, as shown in FIG. 6, the leading end of the transfer material 22 is located at a position upstream of the secondary transfer portion.
The abutting position is regulated by the transfer material transport guide 31 so that the abutting position is zero.

However, when a strong transfer material strained such as cardboard (e.g. 200 g / m 2 paper) In this configuration, the transfer material 22 tip will be pressed against the intermediate transfer belt 10, intermediate transfer The belt 10 is slightly bent by the pressing force. Here, the peripheral speed of the pair of registration rollers 21 is set slightly higher than the transfer material transport speed in the secondary transfer section. This is because if the peripheral speed of the pair of registration rollers 21 becomes slower than the transfer material transport speed in the secondary transfer unit, the transfer material transport is hindered and image shrinkage and image blurring during secondary transfer are caused. Therefore,
Due to the peripheral speed difference described above, even after the leading end of the transfer material 22 has passed the contact position, the intermediate transfer belt 10
Is kept pressed by the transfer material 22.

In order to prevent the occurrence of the toner dust, the applicant of the present invention disclosed in Japanese Patent Application No. 11-96053, in which the endless belt-shaped image carrier was pressed from the back side (inside) to prevent bending, and An image forming apparatus for preventing generation of voids has been proposed. FIG. 8 is a diagram showing a configuration in which a pressing member 30 for pressing the intermediate transfer belt 10 as an endless belt-shaped image carrier from the back side is provided.

The pressing member 30 is located near the upstream side of the transfer nip 51 with respect to the rotation direction of the intermediate transfer belt 10 and presses from the back side of the intermediate transfer belt 10. The leading end of the transfer material 22 sent out from 31 is disposed at a position downstream of the contact position A where the transfer material 22 contacts the intermediate transfer belt 10. By arranging the pressing member 30 at such a position, even if the transfer material 22 such as thick paper that has a strong stiffness is sent out, the pressing member 30 is located on the back side, so the intermediate transfer belt is moved by the transfer material 22. 10 is not deflected. Accordingly, the air gap s as described in FIG. 7 does not occur, and the generation of toner dust can be prevented.

As shown in FIG. 9, the transfer material conveying guide 31 has a surface J whose extension is directed to the curved surface of the pressing member 30 and a surface that is continuous with the surface J and faces the curved surface. K along the intermediate transfer belt 10 and the surfaces J and K
Has a mountain-like shape having a curved boundary portion P that forms a boundary with the boundary, and has a wedge-like shape as a whole. Here, an extension line from the portion of the intermediate transfer belt 10 located between the pressing member 30 and the transfer nip portion 51 is denoted by L1.
, The boundary portion P was disposed at an arbitrary position on the intermediate transfer belt 10 side including the extension line L1.

With such a configuration, as shown in FIG. 10, the boundary P pushes up the transfer material 22, and the transfer material 22 is always moved from the boundary P to the transfer nip 51. Is applied to the intermediate transfer belt 10. Due to this pressing force F, the transfer material 22 is brought into close contact with the intermediate transfer belt 10 regardless of its type,
Generation of toner dust can be prevented.

Japanese Patent Application No. 11-96053 proposes an invention in which a radius of curvature r (see FIG. 8) of a portion of the pressing member that contacts the endless belt-shaped image carrier is r ≧ 5 mm. However, this is to prevent curling of the endless belt-shaped image carrier. This curl is generated when the endless belt-shaped image carrier is left in a stretched state for a long period of time, which hinders the close contact with the transfer material during transfer and causes horizontal streak-like transfer failure. In order to prevent this curl, it is desirable that the radius of curvature r of the pressing member is large.

However, increasing the radius of curvature r of the pressing member is effective for preventing the curl of the endless belt-shaped image carrier, but the pressing member becomes larger than the transfer portion because the pressing member becomes large. As a result, the length L of the linear portion of the endless belt-shaped image carrier formed by the transfer nip portion and the pressing member becomes longer. For this reason, as shown in FIG. 11, even when the transfer material 22 is pressed against the intermediate transfer belt 10 by the transfer material transfer guide 31, the length L of the linear portion is long, so that the transfer material 22 is not moved in the transfer direction of the transfer material 22. The pressing force F per unit length becomes small, and a gap s is generated on the way, so that a sufficient effect on toner dust may not be obtained.

The transfer material is guided by the transfer material conveying guide, and a force for pressing the endless belt-shaped image carrier is applied to the transfer material. When the length L of the linear portion is larger than 10 mm by an experiment, the transfer material becomes an endless belt shape. The length in contact with the image carrier increases, and the pressing force per unit length decreases. When the pressing force is reduced, a gap is generated between the transfer material and the endless belt-shaped image carrier, and toner dust may be generated from the gap. In the image forming apparatus according to the second aspect, since the length L of the linear portion satisfies L ≦ 10 mm, the air gap does not occur, and generation of toner dust is prevented regardless of the thickness of the transfer material or the size of the transfer material. And a good image can be obtained.

The secondary transfer bias roller 14 of the secondary transfer unit 15 is usually separated from the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 10, but is formed on the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 10.
When the color superimposed images are collectively transferred to the transfer material 22, they are moved by the action of the contact / separation mechanism 16 at a time and pressed by the intermediate transfer belt 10 between the secondary transfer opposed roller 50. The transfer nip 51 as a secondary transfer position including the pressing portion is configured. Then, a predetermined bias voltage is applied to the secondary transfer bias roller 14, whereby the transfer to the transfer material 22 is performed. The transfer material 22 to which the full-color toner image has been transferred in this manner is fixed while passing through the fixing unit 25,
The paper is discharged to a paper discharge unit (not shown).

Further, at the end of the transfer of the last page during single-sheet printing or continuous printing, the secondary transfer bias roller 14 is not separated from the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 10, and the cleaning bias having the reverse polarity to the bias at the time of transfer is used. In this example, -1 KV is applied for a fixed time (in this example, a time corresponding to four rotations of the secondary transfer bias roller 14). Subsequently, a bias having the same polarity as the transfer bias (1 in this example).
KV) is applied for a certain period of time (corresponding to two rotations of the transfer roller in this example) to transfer the toner adhered to the surface of the secondary transfer bias roller 14 to the intermediate transfer belt 10,
The surface of the secondary transfer bias roller 14 is cleaned, and then separated from the intermediate transfer belt 10.

Here, the reason why the bias having the same polarity as the transfer bias is applied is to release the electric attraction force of the toner having a small charge amount or the toner charged to the opposite polarity to enhance the cleaning property. The toner transferred to the intermediate transfer belt 10 is collected from the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 10 by the belt cleaning unit 18. After the end of a series of printing operations as described above, the rotation of the motor serving as the driving source is stopped, and the printer enters a print standby state.

The electric field region in the secondary transfer portion is about 4 mm from the transfer nip portion 51. Therefore, the transfer nip 51
Transfer belt 10 formed by the pressing member 30
It is better that the length L of the straight portion is at least 4 mm and as short as possible. This is because the pressing force F between the intermediate transfer belt 10 and the transfer material 22 is increased, and it is difficult to form a gap between the transfer material 22 and the intermediate transfer belt 10, so that generation of toner dust can be prevented.
