According to this conventional reinforcing member for a vehicle bumper, since the above-mentioned intermediate member 91 is formed by roll forming, there is no need to manufacture a mold as compared with the case where the reinforcing member is formed by a press-formed member. Although it has the advantage that it can be constructed at low cost, it has the following problems.

That is, due to the design of the vehicle, the central portion of the vehicle bumper in the vehicle width direction bulges out to the side portion in the vehicle width direction (the front bumper bulges forward, and the rear bumper bulges rearward). In particular, the left and right sides in the vehicle width direction are formed in a round shape having a relatively small radius of curvature. However, it is difficult to form a round shape smaller than a predetermined radius of curvature by roll forming. The curvature of the molded member cannot be changed in the middle of the member, and even if the curvature is provided, only a constant curvature shape in the longitudinal direction of the member can be obtained.

According to a second aspect of the present invention, in addition to the object of the first aspect, the central portions of the roll forming member and the press forming member are spot-welded, and the joining flanges at both upper and lower ends are formed. By arc welding, the weldability is improved by spot welding at the center, and it is not necessary to consider the space for installing the gun for spot welding when welding the joint flanges at the upper and lower ends. Since welding is used, a good and large closed cross section can be secured between the two members within a limited predetermined height, and between the two members corresponding to the buckling (reflexion) of the roll-formed member. An object of the present invention is to provide a reinforcing member for a vehicle bumper that can perform arc welding satisfactorily even if there is a slight displacement.

As described above, according to the reinforcing member for a vehicle bumper having the above structure, the roll forming member 2 having a bow-shaped fixed cross section is provided.
The outer part (the front part in the case of the front bumper 1 and the rear part in the case of the rear bumper) has an inverted bow shape corresponding to the roll forming member 2, and the central part 3 a in the vehicle width direction is on the vehicle width direction side. A press-formed member 3 swelling with respect to the side portion 3b is provided, and joining flanges 7, 8, 12, and 13 opposed to upper and lower ends of the roll-formed member 2 and the press-formed member 3 are formed. 2 and press-formed member 3 at central portions 4, 9 and joining flanges 7, 8, 12, 1 at upper and lower ends.
3, the cost can be reduced by the roll-formed member 2, and the press-formed member 3 can easily cope with the design shape. In other words, there is an effect that both cost reduction and improvement in responsiveness to vehicle design requirements can be achieved.

[0008] The invention according to claim 2 of the present invention, in addition to the object of the invention according to claim 1, provides the above-mentioned roll forming .
According to the central portion of the member and by press molding member spot welding, a joint flange provided on the upper and lower ends of each member by arc welding, in the central part aims to improve weldability by spot welding, vertical When welding the joining flanges at both ends, there is no need to consider the space for arranging the gun for spot welding, and the joints are joined by arc welding. Therefore, a good and large closed space between the two members within a limited predetermined height. A cross section can be ensured, and good arc welding can be performed even if there is a slight misalignment between the two members in response to buckling (reflexion) of the members by roll forming. It is an object of the present invention to provide a reinforcing member for a vehicle bumper that can be used.
