Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a barrel caulking part of a pressure contact mold for pressure contact and pressure fitting simultaneously, from interfering with a cavity partition inclined by pressing a barrel caulked with pressure fitting of a neighbored electric wire. SOLUTION: A lower surface of a barrel caulking part 4 of a metal-mold 10 is curved along a peripheral surface of an electric wire 50 so as to efficiently stand a pressed barrel 43 along an outer surface of the electric wire 50, and cut-outs 6 are disposed sequently on both side surfaces. A pressing surface 5 of the barrel caulking part 4 and its neighbour are subject to nitriding, and the surfaces are cured so as to increase pressure and durability. Even if the mold 10 descends, and the pressing surface 5 of the barrel caulking part 4 of its lower end abuts on a tip of a barrel 43 of a terminal 40, and the barrel caulking part 4 presses the barrel 43; the cutouts 6 are present. Accordingly, the barrel caulking part 4 is not interferred by a cavity partition 33a inclined when the neighboring electric wire 50 is subject to pressure fit.

In the case of the above-mentioned press-contact mold 10, there is the following problem shown in FIG. That is, the barrel crimping portion 4 causes the curved surface (pressing portion) 5 on the lower surface to press the tip of the barrel 43, and secures the barrel 43 to the electric wire 5 in order to secure the fixing force of the electric wire 50 to the terminal.
As it is swaged around 0,
The barrel 43 deforms so as to form an arc bulging outward from an upright state before being caulked. At this time, the outer surface of the barrel 43 presses the side wall 33 of the cavity facing the same, so that the side wall 33 is inclined toward the adjacent cavity 32.

Therefore, when the adjacent barrel caulking portion 4 comes down from above the inclined side wall 33, it interferes with the side wall 33 and the side wall 33 is cut off.
In some cases, the side wall 33 may be broken from the root.

At this time, since the mold 10 receives resistance from the side wall 33, if the resistance is large, the mold 10
Does not descend smoothly, the swaging strength is weakened, and the swaging condition varies depending on the position.

[0010] The existence of such inconvenience demands a further reduction in size and an increase in the density of the installed wires.
This is a particularly serious problem in today's connector specifications, in which the arrangement pitch is reduced, the extra space in the width direction of the cavity 32 is lost, and the thickness of the side wall 33 is becoming thinner. The smaller thickness of the side wall 33 means that, as described above, when caulking, the adjacent cavity 32
In addition, when the barrel 10 is pressed by the barrel caulking portion 4 of the mold 10, it easily breaks.

In the above invention, if the surface of the mold facing the electric wire is a curved surface along the peripheral surface of the electric wire, each of the barrels on both sides of the electric wire effectively faces the outer surface of the electric wire along the curved surface. Since the caulking is performed while being worn, the connection strength of the electric wire to the connector also increases in this case.

Further, when the molds having the above-described configurations are used, even when the press-contact blade is provided in parallel with the press-contact and the press-bonding, the press-bonding operation does not interfere with the side wall of the adjacent cavity as described above. Since the press-contact blade descends smoothly without the mold receiving resistance, the pressing force of the press-contact blade is transmitted to the electric wire as it is, so that good press-contact can be performed.

By using the mold 10 of this embodiment, FIG.
As shown in (a), the mold 10 descends, and (b)
Even when the barrel caulking portion 4 presses the barrel 43 as shown in FIG. 7, since the notch 6 exists, the side wall 3 of the cavity inclined when the electric wire 50 on the left is crimped.
The caulking part 4 does not interfere with 3a.

As described above, the press-contacting die according to the present invention has a notch at the pressing end of the barrel caulking portion, so that when the electric wire is crimped by the barrel caulking,
The barrel bends and presses against the side wall of the next cavity,
Even if the side wall is inclined, the notch does not cause the barrel caulked portion to descend to the inclined side wall portion, so that there is no possibility of breakage.

[0025] This means that in the connector which is required to be further miniaturized and the density of the arranged wires to be further increased in the future, the arrangement pitch of the terminals becomes narrow, and the space in the width direction of the cavity becomes insufficient. Therefore, it is particularly effective in a connector in which the thickness of the side wall of the cavity is reduced. If the wall thickness is thin, it is easy to tilt by pressing the barrel,
This is because if the mold without the notch descends, it may be easily damaged.

Further, if the mold according to the present invention is used, even when the press-contact and the pressure-bonding are simultaneously performed by providing the press-contact blade in the mold,
As described above, the crimping operation is performed without interference with the side wall of the adjacent cavity, and the press-contact blade is smoothly lowered without receiving resistance from the mold, so that the pressing force of the press-contact blade is directly transmitted to the electric wire. Thus, effective and good pressure welding can be performed.
