Description
DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
The mouth extends from the lips to the pharynx and represents the first portion of the gastrointestinal system; it is called the oral cavity. Various bone, joint and muscle structures also participate in defining the anatomical structure of the mouth. The oral cavity is composed not only of the teeth and gums, but also of the anterior two thirds of the tongue, the inner surface of the cheeks, the oral floor, positioned under the tongue, and the palatine "vault". The upper part of the mouth, defined as the hard palate, is supported by the bony vault of the upper jaw, where the teeth of the upper arch are placed and articulated. Those of the lower arch are instead positioned on the mandible, which articulates with the skull thanks to temporomandibular joints. The inside of the mouth is covered by the oral mucosa, thin, sensitive and richly vascularized. It is sensorially specialized in perceiving flavors. Inside the mouth, there are also numerous minor salivary glands, as well as the outlets of the ducts of the major salivary glands. Feeding, speaking, swallowing and occasionally even breathing take place through the mouth. With it, a series of further functional activities related to facial expressions, aesthetics and interpersonal, emotional and sentimental relationships are also possible. The mouth is the initial seat of the digestive activity of food, which occurs thanks to some enzymes that are secreted with the saliva and allow the food bolus to begin its digestive process in the mouth, which will subsequently continue in the other intestinal portions. salivary physiologically should oscillate between 6.5 and 7.5. thanks to the buffering action of the bicarbonates it contains. The pH of saliva is influenced by the degree of oral hygiene, by the type of diet but also by morbid factors. Regardless of the cause, acidic saliva is a major risk factor for tooth decay, tooth enamel erosion, and dentine hypersensitivity. The critical value of the salivary pH, below which the enamel is demineralized, is 5.5., Even a salivary pH that is too alkaline favors the deposition of mineral salts present in saliva and food, so that bacterial plaque settles mineralizes more rapidly, forming tartar. The pH of saliva drops when secretion is scarce and shifts towards alkalinity when salivary secretion is abundant.
The oral cavity, in its anatomy and physiology, with increasing age undergoes a set of involutional and degenerative changes that occur in all organs and systems, including the tissues of the oral cavity that undergo alterations regressive that compromise their functionality. These changes are partly written and programmed in the genetic makeup of each individual, partly deriving from the individual's interaction with the surrounding environment: socio-economic condition; lifestyle; any past pathologies and odontostomatological treatments undergone.
The set of these structural and functional changes affecting the oral apparatus (loss of dental elements, modification of muscle tone, etc.), can deteriorate the physiognomic aspect and the expressive capacity of the person's face, revealing the signs of the passing of the time. Aging of the oral cavity manifests itself with alterations that are evident in the dental periodontal complex and in the hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity,
The aging of the tooth produces changes in shape and color linked to the intrinsic modifications of the individual tissues that compose it: enamel, dentin, pulp and cement.
WHO and CDC assign a prominent role to the prevention of dental diseases, indicating that having a good state of oral health is much more than having healthy teeth: it is in fact a condition that strongly influences the whole state of health and well-being of the person and which can have very serious effects on the daily life of individuals. The risk factors of oral diseases, in fact, overlap with those of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer and chronic lung diseases. Factors that have a lot to do with lifestyles. Diseases affecting the oral cavity can also be very different and determined by distinct causes: caries, bacterial infection in the teeth, plaque and tartar formation, bacterial deposition, gingivitis and periodontitis, traumatic and / or inflammatory mucosal lesions and, wounds and irritation due to prostheses, the formation of canker sores and ulcers on the tissues of the mouth caused by herpes, problems with the jaw joints or other craniofacial dysfunctions and malformations, up to cancer of the mouth or throat (pharynx).
Oral diseases and problems are a risk not only to mouth health but also because bacteria can colonize the lower respiratory tract causing lung infections. Nutrition is considered to be directly responsible, by modifying the pH of the saliva and as the presence of food residues capable of favoring a fermentative bacterial flora. In the mouth there are over 300 different species of bacteria which, under normal conditions, perform beneficial functions that allow us to keep our mouth healthy by protecting it from the attack of harmful microorganisms such as bacteria foreign to the oral cavity, fungi and viruses. proper care and hygiene of the oral cavity, in the case of smokers, people suffering from diseases that affect different parts of the body or due to genetic factors, these same bacteria can cause serious damage both to the teeth and to the supporting apparatus of these , the paratondo, and affect the oral cavity leading to inflammation and infections of the same such as gingivitis, stomatitis, cheilitis, canker sores, lingua nigra villosa, Herpes simplex etc ... Gingivitis causes inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth; stomatitis buccal ulcers; cheilitis indicates a very large group of inflammatory pathologies of the lips with various etiology.P.es The cheilitis of the lower lip is often triggered by environmental causes (wind, cold and sun) and a chronic inflammation if neglected and untreated can predispose over the years to a degeneration (squamous cell epithelioma of the lower lip). Aphthae of the oral cavity are painful and recurrent ulcerations and can sometimes be an indicator of the so-called Beh? Et disease. Another phenomenon is the lingua nigra villosa, characterized by elongation and pigmentation of the filiform papillae with multiplication of the superficial microbial flora. It can be triggered by the use of some antibiotics or antiseptics Candidosis small white spots caused by Candida Albicans a fungus whose pathogenicity can be triggered by food deficiencies such as Iron, Vit of Group B. "Burning mouth syndrome": causes a intense burning pain more or less widespread in the oral cavity without lesions or discolouration of the gums or mouth. The factors that determine it can also be vitamin deficiencies of Group B, Ferro Herpes, spreads through saliva and is notably widespread, it is due to the Herpes simplex virus. Usually occurs on the lip Herpes Labialis, it can also occur on the palate, gums or tongue Recurrent Intraoral Herpes.
The affections of the oral cavity determine 90% of the causes of halitosis which in the remaining 10% of cases depends on extraoral causes. The anaerobic saprophytic bacteria of the oral cavity, when for various reasons become virulent, cause putrefaction of the organic protein substances contained in the saliva, in the food residues that make up the bacterial plaque and in the blood present in the mouth in case of gingivitis and periodontitis. As a result of their action, the chemical elements responsible for halitosis are thus released, volatile sulfur compounds such as hydrogen sulphide, methyl mercaptan, isovaleric acid, and amine compounds such as putrescine and cadaverine.
The goals of oral hygiene are to keep mucous membranes intact and moist, prevent infections, remove plaque, prevent malnutrition problems.Prevention and treatment are essential to avoid or at least slow down the onset of many of the above diseases. listed and others not indicated here. Providing, also through a cosmeceutical formulation that contains them in an active form, the nutrients whose deficiency can help determine the onset of these pathologies is important both at a preventive and treatment level.
In the current state of the art there is no cosmeceutical formulation that has a re-epithelizing, oral sanitizing and at the same time anti-aging function of the buccal apparatus.
