Description
“Metodo di applicazione di oro e altri metalli preziosi su tessuto†⠀ œMethod of applying gold and other precious metals on fabricâ €
DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a method for the permanent application of decorations of precious metal, such as gold, platinum, silver and the like, on clothing and fabrics in general.
In the fashion industry, the decoration of fabrics with drawings and graphic motifs has always been of great importance. In particular, relatively recently, among other things, the practice of applying to clothing items, especially T-shirts, skirts, scarves and the like, designs such as logos, writings and images, by means of printing or screen printing using various types of non-water-soluble inks, often emulsified with a plasticizing agent (eg plastisol) to maintain flexibility and elasticity in the decorated fabric.
In order to embellish clothing, it is also known to associate decorations with gold or other metals or precious stones to them, but in this case the only way adopted so far is to sew or incorporate trimmings consisting of platelets to the fabric , medals, chains and the like, made of gold or other precious metal. This type of decoration, however, is very expensive because it involves the use of large quantities of metal, and is therefore only suitable for extremely luxurious garments, intended for exceptional circumstances. Furthermore, such relatively massive decorations reduce the degree of pliability of the fabric, making the garment less comfortable. Finally, another even more serious drawback is that the garment so adorned does not lend itself to washing, and therefore normally requires the removal of the seals before washing, with subsequent reapplication.
The main purpose of the invention is now that of realizing a method that allows to apply decorations of precious metals such as gold and the like, in a permanent, flexible way, and resistant to all types of wear, including that for wearing and washing.
Another object is to realize such decorations in such a way as to preserve both the wrinkle and the repeated washability of the garment without deterioration of the decoration or erosion of the metal.
Another object is to realize this method of application in such a way as to allow the application of very small quantities of metal, so as not to excessively increase the manufacturing cost of the fabric compared to a printed fabric with conventional decorations.
The invention achieves the aforementioned and other objects and advantages, as will emerge from the following description, with a method of applying gold and other precious metals on fabric and leather goods having the innovative characteristics set out in claim 1. Other accessory characteristics are set out in the claims subordinates.
The invention is described in more detail in a preferred embodiment, represented in the attached schematic drawing, where for clarity the vertical scale is greatly exaggerated with respect to the horizontal scale, and in which:
la Fig. 1 Ã ̈ una vista in sezione schematica esplosa di una fase iniziale del metodo dell'invenzione, secondo una prima realizzazione; Fig. 1 is an exploded schematic sectional view of an initial phase of the method of the invention, according to a first embodiment;
la Fig.2 Ã ̈ una vista simile alla Fig.1, riferita a una fase successiva; Fig.2 is a view similar to Fig.1, referred to a subsequent phase;
Fig.3 is a view similar to Fig.2, referred to a subsequent phase.
In a preferred embodiment of the method, the negative mask of the image to be formed on the fabric is created on a silk-screen frame 10 in a conventional way, ie by creating barrier areas 12 which delimit the outline of the image. The frame 10 is then placed on the fabric 14 to be decorated, previously spread on a work surface 16. Subsequently, as shown in Fig. 1, a layer 18 of an elastic adhesive (further described below) is spread on the fabric through the weft. releases 20 of the screen printing frame 10, in a way known per se.
Once the aforementioned first pass of adhesive has dried, a second pass is preferably applied in the same way and in the same position on the fabric.
After the second pass, and before it dries, a thin, impalpable leaf of the chosen metal (gold, platinum, or other) is laid. As shown schematically in Fig. 2, the sheet 22 can be laid starting from a support tissue 24, made of polyethylene or other pliable synthetic material. Once the sheet has been applied to the adhesive with the help of the tissue, the latter is detached by "peeling", while the metal 22 adheres strongly to the adhesive 18. The fragments 26 of excess metal, which being free from the adhesive, split externally around the shape, they can then be recovered, after which the adhesive is waited for drying.
The adhesive used for the procedure described above is an elastic adhesive of the polymeric type, preferably a polyurethane adhesive, with or without a solvent, or an adhesive based on polyesters containing aliphatic di-carboxylic acids such as adipic and sebacic acids. In both cases they are highly plastic and elastic adhesives. Both polyurethane adhesives and those based on polyester are, as known to the skilled in the art, absolutely harmless to health, being in particular free from isocyanates. The gold or silver leaf described above preferably has a thickness of between 1 and 10 Î1⁄4m, and is typically obtained with a hammering procedure between leather panels, as known in the art. Gold and silver leaves of this type are commercially available for use on rigid substrates, in bookbinding and similar applications.
After drying of the adhesive, the procedure described above is preferably (but not necessarily) repeated identically to apply a second, and possibly a third and fourth sheet of the desired metal, overlapping the one already laid, each time letting it dry. The number of layers depends on various factors, including the thickness of the single leaf.
After having placed the desired number of leaves, a final layer of adhesive is preferably spread on the decoration, through the same screen printing frame used for the previous phases (not illustrated in the drawings), in order to improve the final protection for the decoration, although this step is not essential. After this final layer has dried, the decorated fabric is finished.
Infatti, oltre a lasciar asciugare l'adesivo mediante semplice esposizione all’aria, à ̈ naturalmente possibile accelerare l'asciugatura mediante irraggiamento con raggi infrarossi o in certi casi raggi ultravioletti. The drying times of the adhesive may vary according not only to the specific formulation of the adhesive itself, but also according to the drying methods, which can be natural or assisted. In fact, in addition to allowing the adhesive to dry by simple exposure to air, it is of course possible to accelerate drying by irradiation with infrared rays or in some cases ultraviolet rays.
The described decoration can assume any conformation, similarly to the decorations applied with conventional inks.
Surprisingly, the fabric decorated with noble metal as described above retains all the mechanical properties of the non-metallized fabric, and in particular, can be freely folded and wrinkled in the metallized area, as well as elastically extended, thanks to the properties of the adhesive. In fact, the metal molecules, typically gold, adhere more strongly to the adhesive substrate than to each other, and therefore follow the deformations of the fabric without disintegrating. The washability is also comparable to that of a traditional printed fabric, without loss or erosion of the metal, thanks to the impermeability of the adhesive.
Since the thicknesses of the leaf are very small, the quantities of metal applied are small, and their contribution to the additional cost of the final garment, compared to an equivalent garment, such as a T-shirt, which is decorated in conventional way with known inks or pigments.
1-3. As an alternative to the laying of a thin sheet of metal, after the application phase of the adhesive on the fabric, a thin layer of very fine powder can be deposited, to which, after drying and removal of the metallic dust external to the edge of the adhesive, it is possible to to follow further applications of adhesive and metal, both in powder form and in leaf form, as already described with reference to Figs. 1-3.
The application of powder as described above, although possible, is however in general more expensive with the same visual result, due to the impossibility of guaranteeing complete coverage if not depositing an overall quantity of metal greater than the quantity contained in an equivalent leaf. . In conclusion, the invention makes it possible to supply fabrics and garments with great intrinsic preciousness, without penalizing the normal use of the garment and without excessive increases in the selling price with respect to a similar garment with conventional printed decorations.
