L. RIASSUNTO
Un procedimento per migliorare le proprietà di durabilità di un rivestimento trasparente sottile depositato sotto vuoto mediante un metodo di deposizione per via fisica sulla superficie di un substrato trasparente quale il vetro, consiste nel depositare uno strato sottile trasparente di Zr02-x o di ossidi trasparenti di leghe di Zr oppure di combinazioni di ossidi trasparenti contenenti Zr02.x.
Il procedimento viene attuato secondo un metodo di deposizione per via fisica che può essere lo stesso di quello utilizzato per depositare il rivestimento di base, e lo strato protettivo non ne altera sensibilmente le caratteristiche spettrofotometriche .

DESCRIZIONE
La presente invenzione si riferisce ad un processo per migliorare le proprietà di durabilità di un rivestimento sottile trasparente, formato di uno o più strati sottili depositati su un substrato trasparente aventi scopo di controllare la radiazione elettromagnetica nell'intervallo spettrale da 0,28 μιη a 100 μαι.
Da molti anni vengono realizzati a livello industriale mediante diverse tecnologie ( via fisica: RF sputtering, magnetron sputtering, evaporazione termica, evaporazione da cannone elettronico; via chimica: pirolisi, cvd, sol-gel) prodotti dotati di rivestimenti superficiali (d'ora in poi chiamati coating) formati di uno o più strati sottili che trovano, grazie alle loro caratteristiche di controllo della radiazione elettromagnetica e/o della conducibilità elettrica, crescenti applicazioni in campi quali, ad esempio, quello automobilistico ed edilizio.
L'origine del successo di tali manufatti ha una duplice natura. Con l'applicazione di coating su substrati trasparenti (quali, ad esempio, il vetro), si può sfruttare il fenomeno dell'interferenza, proprio dei processi ondulatori, per modificare nell'intervallo spettrale visibile UV-VIS-NIR-FIR (ossia da 0.28μπ\ a ΙΟΟμπι) la risposta del substrato rispetto alla radiazione elettromagnetica incidente su di esso, e disporre, eventualmente, di una base non più elettricamente isolante. Ciò consente contemporaneamente di tenere conto sia delle diverse esigenze estetiche e cromatiche, sia di realizzare articoli in grado di soddisfare molteplici richieste quali il controllo solare, il contenimento dei consumi energetici (abbassamento della trasmittanza termica) , il miglioramento del comfort visivo ed ambientale nelle abitazioni e nelle auto, la riduzione del degrado di materiali negli interni, lo sbrinamento delle superiici, ecc.
Naturalmente esiste una grande differenziazione tra i prodotti presenti sul mercato, sia sulla base delle proprietà di durabilità che per quanto riguarda le caratteristiche prestazionali.
Inoltre il crescente sviluppo delle vetrature sta separando in modo sempre più netto i prodotti realizzati mediante le diverse tecnologie. Così i coating ottenuti per via fisica si sono dimostrati incompatibili con alcune recenti applicazioni. In particolare i coating, cosiddetti riflettenti, basati sull'utilizzo di materiali quali ad esempio Acciaio (SSt), Titanio (Ti), Cromo (Cr), Stagno (Sn) e/o relativi ossidi, nitruri ed ossinitruri, hon sono in generale idonei all 'utilizzo in facciate ventilate (si tratta di facciate continue realizzate in vetro rivestito di coating, particolarmente in vetro monolitico ed utilizzate sempre più frequentemente in edilizia). La causa di ciò è legata al problema generale della instabilità a lungo termine dei coating realizzati per via fisica quando vengono posti in esercizio a diretto contatto con l'ambiente.
Analogamente, nel caso dì prodotti destinati al mercato auto, le ridotte proprietà di resistenza all'abrasione non ne consentono 11installazione come vetro monolitico rivestito di coating, particolarmente monolitico in parti in movimento (tettucci mobili, scendenti).
Scopo della presente invenzione è quello di superare detti inconvenienti. L'invenzione, come è caratterizzata dalle rivendicazioni, risolve il problema di utilizzare il vetro dotato di rivestimenti sottili depositati per via fisica direttamente a contatto con l'ambiente , per esempio in facciate ventilate, e/o in severe condizioni di abrasione, per esempio come vetrature mobili di auto.
Un ulteriore scopo della presente invenzione è quello di migliorare la durabilità di detti rivestimenti senza alterarne sensibilmente le caratteristiche spettrofotometriche.
La presente invenzione è basata sulla scoperta che le proprietà di resistenza all'abrasione e di inerzia chimica di coating depositati per via fisica utilizzando materiali quali, ad esempio, SSt (AISI 316 o similari), Ti, Cr, Sn, e relativi ossidi, nitruri e/o ossinitruri, possono essere migliorate depositando su di essi, senza soluzione di continuità, uno strato protettivo esterno avente opportune caratteristiche.
L'innovazione riguarda una metodologia del tutto generale che consente sia la progettazione "ex-novo" di nuovi coating, che il miglioramento di coating già esistenti sul mercato. In entrambi i casi la perturbazione introdotta dal film protettivo esterno risulta ridotta al punto da poter essere considerata all'interno delle tolleranze di produzione.
E1 stato sorprendentemente trovato che un film sottile formato di ossido di zirconio, particolarmente Zr02_x (χ<<1), oppure formato di ossidi trasparenti di leghe a base di Zr (quali Zr-Àl, Zr-Ti, Zr-SSt, Zr-Cr) oppure formato di combinazioni di ossidi trasparenti contenenti ZrC>2-x depositato senza soluzione di continuità su di un coating sottostante fornisce una protezione sufficiente a superare i test di durabilità standardizzati prescritti dalle norme internazionali che riguardano la resistenza all'abrasione, agli attacchi chimici (SO2, NaCl, ecc.) ed agli agenti atmosferici (condensa) dimostrando il vantaggio di utilizzare tali coating a contatto con l'ambiente e/o come parti in movimento .
E' stato inoltre sorprendentemente trovato che lo spessore dello strato protettivo depositato secondo il procedimento oggetto della presente invenzione, tale da consentire la protezione voluta, risulta compreso tra 2.10’3μπιe 8.10’3 μιη.
Uno strato protettivo di spessori così ridotti, da una parte non influisce sensibilmente sulle principali caratteristiche spettrofotometriche del coating sottostante quali la trasmissione (TUV) e la riflessione ultravioletta, la trasmissione luminosa (TL) ed energetica (TE), la riflessione luminosa (RL) ed energetica (RE), la lunghezza d'onda dominante λ0χ, la purezza di eccitazione (Pe), l'emissività, dall'altra può essere facilmente depositato, ad esempio con il metodo magnetron sputtering, in un impianto tradizionale utilizzato per il rivestimento di lastre di vetro per edilizia o per vetri per auto.
Forma pertanto oggetto della presente invenzione un procedimento atto a migliorare le proprietà di durabilità di un rivestimento sottile trasparente formato di uno o più strati sottili depositati sotto vuoto mediante un metodo noto di deposizione per via fisica sulla superficie di un substrato trasparente allo scopo di controllarne la radiazione elettromagnetica nell'intervallo spettrale compreso fra 0,28 μιη e 100 μτη caratterizzato dal fatto di depositare senza soluzione di continuità su detto rivestimento uno strato protettivo dielettrico trasparente di ossido di zirconio, particolarmente Zr02-X (x<<!) oppure di ossidi trasparenti di leghe di Zr oppure di combinazioni di ossidi trasparenti contenenti ZrC>2-x.
Conformemente al procedimento sopra descritto, forma anche oggetto della presente invenzione, una lastra di vetro avente uno strato protettivo applicato senza soluzione di continuità sul coating di base, consiste di un film sottile di ZrC>2-x, {χ<<1), oppure di ossidi trasparenti di leghe di Zr quali ad esempio Zr-Al, Zr-Ti, Zr-SSt, Zr-Cr, oppure di combinazioni di ossidi trasparenti contenenti Zr02-X e costituisce una barriera efficace in spessori tra 2.10"3μπιe 8.10"3 μπι.
Strati di tali spessori possono essere facilmente depositati, ad esempio, via magnetron sputtering a partire da target metallici di Zr o di leghe di Zr. In questo caso lo sputtering sarà di tipo reattivo, avvenendo la deposizione in una atmosfera opportunamente ossidata in modo da ottenere un ossido praticamente stechiometrico (χ<<1). Si sottolinea che, come noto agli esperti del settore, altre tecniche, oltre al magnetron sputtering, possono essere utilizzate per mettere in pratica la presente invenzione. Alcuni esempi sono evaporazione termica, evaporazione da cannone elettronico, RF sputtering.
L'aggiunta su di un coating esistente di un ulteriore film comporta in generale una variazione non trascurabile dei parametri caratteristici del coating originario. Nel caso in questione lo strato protettivo secondo la presente invenzione implica una minima variazione dei parametri caratteristici del coating di base. Questo fatto è una conseguenza diretta della possibilità di poter utilizzare lo strato protettivo esterno secondo la presente invenzione in spessori così sottili da risultare di un fattore 10^ inferiore alla lunghezza d'onda della radiazione visibile. In questo modo le differenze risultano pressoché indipendenti dal coating da proteggere (più precisamente dall'indice di rifrazione del materiale che costituisce lo strato più esterno del coating da proteggere). Tale perturbazione quindi rientra all 'interno delle tolleranze di produzione nel caso si voglia utilizzare il procedimento oggetto della presente invenzione per migliorare le proprietà di durabilità di un articolo già in produzione.
La presente invenzione consente di migliorare le proprietà di resistenza all'abrasione, agli attacchi chimici ed agli agenti atmosferici dei coating per il controllo della radiazione elettromagnetica negli intervalli UV-VIS-NIR-FIR (ossia nell'intervallo da 0.28μτη a ΙΟΟμπι) minimizzando anche la variazione delle principali caratteristiche spettrofotometriche quali trasmissione/riflessione ultravioletta/luminosa/energetica, lunghezza d'onda dominante, purezza d'eccitazione, emissività.
Le caratteristiche dell'invenzione risulteranno maggiormente evidenti dalla considerazione dei seguenti esempi di attuazione dell'invenzione, dati a solo titolo esemplificativo .
Il sistema di deposizione utilizzato è un classico impianto per magnetron sputtering "serie G" della AIRCO Ine. costituito da tre camere da vuoto e nove catodi, in grado di rivestire lastre di vetro fino a dimensioni pari a 2100x3210 miti2. In generale le camere di deposizione sono evacuate fino a raggiungere una pressione inferiore a 5x10 Torr prima di iniziare il processo. Durante lo sputtering, tale valore è preferibilmente compreso tra lxlO"3Torr e 5xlO_^Torr. La potenza applicata al catodo è normalmente massimizzata (in funzione delle dimensioni dello stesso e del punto di fusione del materiale di cui è costituito il target) per abbassare il più possibile i tempi di ciclo macchina.
Sono state rivestite lastre di prova di dimensioni 700x700 mm^ e 2100x3210 mm^.
ESEMPIO 1
In questo esempio comparativo viene descritta la realizzazione di un coating tradizionale di TiNx e dello stesso prodotto protetto, in accordo con la presente invenzione, con 5.10' 3 μτη di ZrOj-.x· L'impianto è stato equipaggiato con sei target di Ti nelle prime due zone di coatizzazione, e con un target di Zr nella terza camera.

Come si vede dalle misure riportate in questa tabella, le variazioni di tutti i parametri spettrofotometrici sono sufficientemente ridotte per cui i prodotti vengono considerati gli stessi da un punto di vista estetico e funzionale.
Infatti le variazioni, sia in trasmissione che in riflessione, della lunghezza d'onda dominante sono contenute in un intervallo di ± 2 nm e le variazioni della trasmissione energetica TE sono contenute entro 2 punti, per cui vengono giudicate dall'uomo del mestiere come comprese nelle normali tolleranze di produzione.
Ricordiamo ancora che l'applicazione del film protettivo oggetto della presente invenzione non altera in alcun modo il valore dell'emissività del coating di base, in quanto, pur trattandosi di un film di tipo dielettrico, il rapporto tra la lunghezza d'onda della radiazione termica considerata e lo spessore del film protettivo è dell'ordine di 10^.
I prodotti sono poi stati sottoposti ai seguenti test normalizzati.:
Test di abrasione ( EN1096 )_ (Tabella 2)
Lo scopo di questo test è quello di simulare (utilizzando un'apparecchiatura che consente di esercitare sul coating, tramite un feltro normalizzato, una pressione costante per un numero prefissato di cicli durante il moto rettilineo avanti-dietro alla frequenza di 1 Hz del feltro stesso} il degrado del coating in seguito ad azioni meccaniche di tipo abrasivo simili a quelle subite dal prodotto in opera, quali, ad esempio, pulizia, liscivazione, lavaggi, sfregamenti di parti in gomma, ecc.
Esistono due soglie di riferimento per la coppia (N°cicli, carico), corrispondenti ad esempio alle specifiche fornite dalle case automobilistiche per applicazioni rispettivamente all'interno ed all'esterno delle autovetture. Tali valori sono rispettivamente (200cicli, 0.04N/mm2) e (2000cicli, 0.07N/mm2) .
Visto il favorevole livello dì durabilità raggiunto con la soluzione oggetto della presente invenzione (5000 cicli in entrambi i suddetti casi}, è stato analizzato anche il comportamento con un carico di 0.09N/mm2 che ha dato ugualmente
risultati favorevoli a 5000 cicli.

Sono stati riportati giudizi visivi in quanto le variazioni dei parametri spettrofotometrici sono risultate irrilevanti

Questo test, atto a valutare il comportamento
dei prodotti esposti ad ambienti fortemente
inquinati, consiste nel sottoporre il coating a ripetute esposizioni in atmosfera satura in presenza di SO2·
A titolo di riferimento si fa presente che la standardizzazione CEN per le applicazioni in edilizia (TC129 "Glass in buildings" WG6 "Coated glazings for Windows") prevede, nel caso specifico dell 'utilizzo del coating in esterno, il superamento di un numero pari a 5 cicli ad 1/10 di concentrazione di SO2 rispetto a quella qui utilizzata .
I parametri riportati nella suddetta tabella, ossia ΔΥ, AC e ΔΕ, sono relativi al sistema Lab-Hunter e rappresentano rispettivamente la variazione di trasmittanza o riflettanza luminosa, la variazione di cromaticità e la variazione totale di colore, rispetto al campione non trattato (TQ).
Dall'esame dei risultati si verifica che i campioni TQ degradano entro 1 - 2 giorni, mentre su quelli protetti ( a parte un caso in cui il degrado avviene dopo 4 giorni) non si notano alterazioni nemmeno dopo 6 o 12 giorni.
Test di condensa (EN1096) (Tabella 4)
Con questo test si valuta l'eventuale degrado del prodotto causato da acqua di condensa formatasi sul coating in seguito alle condizioni di esercizio.
Anche in questo caso per avere un riferimento si possono utilizzare i valori previsti dalla normalizzazione CEN (vedi sopra} che, per applicazioni in esterno, prevede 500h di esposizione a 40°C (10°C in meno rispetto alle condizioni qui utilizzate).
I parametri riportati nella suddetta tabella, ossia ΔΥ, AC e ΔΕ, sono relativi al sistema Lab-Hunter e rappresentano rispettivamente la variazione di trasmittanza o riflettanza luminosa, la variazione di cromaticità e la variazione totale di colore, rispetto al campione non trattato (TQ).
Dall'esame dei risultati si nota che campioni TQ degradano dopo 1000 ore di prova mentre quelli protetti non hanno mostrato alterazione anche dopo 2500 ore.
Claims (12)
- RIVENDICAZIONI 1. Procedimento atto a migliorare le proprietà di durabilità di un rivestimento sottile trasparente formato di uno o più strati sottili depositati sotto vuoto mediante un metodo noto di deposizione per via fisica sulla superficie di un substrato trasparente allo scopo di controllarne la risposta rispetto alla radiazione elettromagnetica nell'intervallo spettrale compreso fra 0,28 pm e 100 μπι caratterizzato dal fatto di depositare senza soluzione di continuità su detto rivestimento uno strato protettivo dielettrico trasparente di ossido di zirconio oppure di ossidi trasparenti di leghe di Zr oppure di combinazioni di ossidi trasparenti contenenti ossido di zirconio.
- 2. Procedimento secondo la rivendicazione 1, in cui detto ossido di zirconio è Zr02-x (x« l).
- 3. Procedimento secondo la rivendicazione 1 o 2 caratterizzato dal fatto che detto strato protettivo ha uno spessore compreso fra 2Ί0 3 e 8Ί 0 3 μτη.
- 4. Procedimento secondo le rivendicazioni precedenti caratterizzato dal fatto che detto strato protettivo ha uno spessore di 5Ί0 3μτη.
- 5. Procedimento secondo qualsiasi delle rivendicazioni precedenti caratterizzato dal fatto di utilizzare il metodo di deposizione sotto vuoto per via fisica denominato sputtering magnetronico per depositare detto strato protettivo.
- 6. Procedimento secondo qualsiasi delle rivendicazioni da 1 a 4, caratterizzato dal fatto che come metodo di deposizione sotto vuoto per via fisica viene impiegato un metodo dì evaporazione termica, evaporazione da cannone elettronico, oppure sputtering a radio frequenza.
- 7. Procedimento secondo qualsiasi delle rivendicazioni precedenti caratterizzato dal fatto di depositare detto strato protettivo immediatamente dopo la deposizione del rivestimento da proteggere utilizzando lo stesso metodo e lo stesso impianto di deposizione
- 8. Lastra di vetro dotata di un rivestimento sottile trasparente formato di uno o più strati sottili depositati sotto vuoto mediante un metodo noto di deposizione per via fisica e presentante proprietà di durabilità migliorate, ottenuta mediante un procedimento quale rivendicato in qualsiasi delle rivendicazioni precedenti.
- 9. Lastra di vetro secondo la rivendicazione 8 caratterizzata dal fatto che detto strato protettivo presenta uno spessore tale da risultare di un fattore 10^ inferiore alla lunghezza d’onda della radiazione visibile
- 10 . Lastra di vetro secondo la rivendicazione 8 o 9, caratterizzata dal fatto di essere impiegata con il detto strato protettivo a diretto contatto con 1'ambiente.
- 11. Lastra di vetro secondo qualsiasi delle rivendicazioni da 8 a 10 caratterizzato dal fatto di essere impiegata nel campo delle facciate ventilate per edilizia
- 12. Lastra di vetro secondo qualsiasi delle rivendicazioni da 8 a 11 caratterizzata dal fatto di essere impiegata nel campo delle vetrature mobili per auto.
