Description
DESCRIZIONE DELL'INVENZIONE INDUSTRIALE DESCRIPTION OF THE INDUSTRIAL INVENTION
avente per titolo: having as title:
The invention relates to a machine intended for drying, i.e. reducing the moisture content, of any loose, incoherent material, such as in particular the exhausted pomace coming from the olive oil extraction process and the sawdust coming from the processes of woodworking.
The dryer object of the invention comprises one or more rotating cylinders, inside which the material to be dried advances, a loading hopper, a loading auger, a burner for heating the cylinders, and a blower that blows the fumes. heat of the burner inside the cylinders; the whole is enclosed within a casing that provides thermal insulation and protection of the mechanical parts. The material to be dried is taken from the loading hopper by means of the loading screw, which transports it up to the height of the upper cylinder, and makes it fall inside the cylinder itself. The cylinder, set in rotation by a gearmotor which moves its central axis, by means of an internal spiral and as a result of its own rotation, pushes the material along the axis from the loading end to the opposite, unloading end. From there the material enters the second cylinder, which it travels in the same way, and so on for all subsequent cylinders. The material is dried both due to the contact with the superfluous heat of the cylinders, and to the interaction with the hot air sent by the blower. After passing through all the cylinders of the dryer in sequence, the dried material is discharged from the machine. The dryer can also be equipped with a fume suppressor to treat the burner fumes before discharging into the atmosphere.
STATO DELLA TECNICA STATE OF THE TECHNIQUE
The drying of loose and incoherent materials constituting the by-products of some type of processing, such as the exhausted pomace in the case of olive pressing and sawdust in the case of wood processing, is a very requested and frequent process, because it allows to use usefully these materials rather than treating them as waste. For example, various drying processes of the spent pomace have been developed and patented: in the Italian patent n.1273626, Cavalli proposes a physico-chemical drying system; also Ciaralli with the Italian patent n.1290778 and Gaeta with the Italian patent n.1365798 present methods for drying pomace. There are also different types of industrial-sized dryers, such as those with a rotating cylinder and with the burner inserted inside the cylinder.

Una possibile realizzazione dell'essiccatore oggetto dell'invenzione è illustrata nelle Figure 1-4; in particolare : A possible embodiment of the dryer object of the invention is illustrated in Figures 1-4; in particular :

- Fig. 5 illustrates another possible embodiment of the dryer object of the invention, which consists in using several columns side by side, each consisting of several vertically superimposed cylinders.
With reference to Figure 2, the dryer object of the invention consists of: the loading hopper (1) of the wet material to be dried; the loading auger (2), which picks up the material from the loading hopper, raises it up to the height of the upper cylinder, and unloads it into it; the rotating cylinders (3) inside which the material passes in succession, being dried at the same time; the burner (4) which heats the external surface of the cylinders, equipped with its loading hopper (5); the blower unit (6) which sucks the hot fumes from the burner and conveys them, through the ducts (7), into the cylinders (3); a fume scrubber (8), through which the burner fumes pass after having passed inside the cylinders, before being discharged into the atmosphere.
In Fig. 4 one of the cylinders is shown in detail: the material enters it from one end through the hopper (1), is pushed forward by the spiral (2) present on the internal surface of the cylinder, thanks to the rotation of the cylinder itself, and is then discharged when it reaches the opposite end of the cylinder. The cylinder is rotated through its central axis (3), connected to a gearmotor (4), directly or by means of a chain transmission (in this case a single gearmotor can provide the rotation motion to all cylinders). The hot fumes from the burner, sent by the blower, enter the cylinder through the duct (5), and exit at the opposite end.
Con riferimento ancora alla Fig. 3, il funzionamento in dettaglio dell'essiccatore è il seguente: With reference again to Fig. 3, the detailed operation of the dryer is as follows:
The loading auger (2) takes the material from the loading hopper (1) and deposits it in the hopper of the upper cylinder. All the cylinders (3) are rotated through their central axis, and push the material forward by means of the continuous spiral placed on their internal surface. The material to be dried therefore passes through the first cylinder, after which it falls into the hopper of the underlying cylinder, which travels in the opposite direction until it falls into the hopper of the third cylinder, a path which is unloaded by the machine, now dried. The entire path of the material inside the machine is highlighted in Fig. 3 by the black arrow. The drying action on the material is twofold: the burner (4) directly hits the external surfaces of the cylinders (3) with its flames and its hot fumes and heats them, and therefore a first drying action on the material is due to the continuous contact of the material with the hot internal surfaces of the cylinders (3); the second drying action - is instead due to the hot fumes from the burner sucked by the blowing unit (6), conveyed through the ducts (7) and passed through the cylinders (3): these hot fumes hit the material in transit inside cylinders and dry it further.
The arrangement of the cylinders (3) horizontal and in columns one above the other allows to have a more intense drying action for the same size of the machine: this arrangement can include only one column of cylinders, as in figures 1, 2 and 3, or it can also be extended to several columns of cylinders, side by side, as shown in Fig. 5; in the latter case, with reference to Fig. 5, the material runs through the cylinders of each column from top to bottom, is discharged from the lower cylinder (1) of the column, then with an intermediate auger (2) it is brought back to up and loaded into the upper cylinder (3) of the next column, after which it also runs through the cylinders of the column in order from top to bottom.
