Description
The present invention relates, in a wholly general way, to the so-called isostatic pressing technique, and, more particularly, it pertains to the application of said technique to the shaping of articles used in the civil field for decorative purposes.
By articles we mean products that are traditionally obtained by casting, a method according to which a suspension is poured into molds suitable for forming the articles themselves.
Said aqueous suspension generally has a water content of about 30%, and is made with powder and chemical substances, usually cross-linking, capable of favoring the consolidation of the material and reducing the manufacturing times of the product.
The molds are made of porous and hygroscopic material, suitable for the molding process, for example plaster of Paris or porous resin, and composed of at least two shaped parts, coupled to form the molding cavity of the product and connected to a feeding system of the product. suspension of the starting material.
The mold, structured in this way, absorbs the liquid by capillarity, in the case of traditional plaster molds, or this process is speeded up by applying pressure on the mold if it is made up of porous resin.
This methodology, the so-called "pressure casting", also allows to reduce the consolidation times compared to the traditional molding with plaster molds.
In both cases the forming process involves a deposition of a layer of solid material on the suitably shaped walls.
When the piece being formed has reached the desired consistency and thickness, the mold is opened and the product removed, by means of the so-called demoulding operation.
The piece thus obtained, defined as "green", has limited mechanical resistance and is barely able to maintain its own shape without support.
This methodology is not without its flaws; the process of casting, under pressure or traditional, applied to the production of products actually places a strong limitation on the forms that can be implemented, as for the purposes of forming it is necessary to dedicate a mold to each type of desired article and also does not allow to perform on the products themselves an adequate dimensional control of the solid wall that is formed during the process.
It is characterized by an extreme slowness of realization, with consequent low production speed; in fact, it is necessary to consider that the soft starting mass with additives with cross-linking chemicals, poured into the mold at the beginning of the production, takes a long time to reach a sufficient consistency for the subsequent handling / demoulding phase, thus not allowing a valid application of this methodology on an industrial level.
Problems presented mainly by the traditional process concern: the severe wear suffered by the plaster molds during the forming cycles and their disposal.
The main object of the present invention is represented by the overcoming of the previously listed problems, through the use of isostatic pressing technology, aimed at a more effective, simple, rational and reliable forming of the articles for civil use.
Detti obiettivi vengono conseguiti grazie agli elementi caratterizzanti individuati nelle rivendicazioni. Said objectives are achieved thanks to the characterizing elements identified in the claims.
The advantages and characteristics of the invention will become evident from the detailed description that follows, made with reference to the figures of the attached tables containing the drawings which illustrate, purely by way of non-limiting example, a particular and preferred embodiment of a plant for the implementation of the proposed method.
FIG. 1 is a vertical sectional view showing a plant according to the invention shown in the open configuration, before the pressing phase, that is, in the rest phase, begins.
FIG. 2 is a vertical sectional view showing a plant according to the invention shown in the configuration in which the mold is closed (FIG. 2A) and after the start of the pressing phase (FIG. 2B).
FIG. 3 shows a configuration example of the bottom plate, in which the material forming cavities are shown.
From the aforementioned figures, see in particular FIGS. 1, schematically show: a hydraulic press (1), an upper isostatic plug (2), with the relative simplified hydraulic circuit, and the corresponding lower plug (3).
The aforesaid lower plug is intended to be set on the base of a hydraulic drive press, the upper plug is instead fixed to the vertically movable crosspiece of the same press (1), schematized in FIG. 1 with the relative piston cylinder unit (100).
The upper isostatic pad (2) consists of a metal body (200) to whose outer perimeter an elastically deformable membrane (207) is anchored, in a per se known manner, composed of two layers of coupled polymeric material (202).
The elastically deformable membrane (202) and the upper plate (200) together form a single closed chamber, with an extension equal to that of the pad to which it is fixed, which during the pressing phase is filled with an incompressible fluid, generally hydraulic oil.
The active face, i.e. the lower face, of the upper isostatic pad (2) carries, in addition to the aforementioned elastically deformable membrane (202), also a layer of absorbent material (204) and a layer of filter material (205), both fixed to the external perimeter of the body (200) and connected to a drainage channel (206) for the recovery of the water that comes out of the mold due to the pressing operations which will be described below.
In the forming process, the aforementioned upper pad acts as a brand type pad, that is, suitable for coining the laying face of the product.
As well illustrated in FIG: 1, on the bottom of the metal body there are a series of holes (208) distributed according to a matrix scheme comprising twenty-one rows and twenty-one columns, said rows and columns being parallel to respective pairs of opposite sides of the upper body.
Twenty-one transverse holes are made in the body of the plug, one for each column of holes, which act as collector channels (201) for the arrival and departure of the hydraulic oil directed to and from the chamber.
Said collector channels are separated from each other, have a blind end, and at the opposite end they are connected to a respective service duct which leads to the hydraulic circuit of the plant.
Said circuit consists of: a hydraulic solenoid valve (102) operated by an electromagnetic coil which allows the regulation of the flow of hydraulic oil under pressure in the different phases of the process, the service pipes and the pressure pipes P (103) and discharge T (104).
There is also a solenoid valve (101) for connection between the hydraulic circuit of the press (1) and the pressure pipes P (103) and discharge pipes T (104).
Further aspects concerning the said hydraulic circuit and the press are not described in detail as they do not represent any characterizing part of the invention, but are practices already known to those skilled in the art.
The lower plate (3), applied to the base of the hydraulic press, collaborates with the overlying and aligned isostatic pad (2), carried by the vertically movable crosspiece of the same press (1).
Said lower plate comprises, see better FIG. 1, a metal body with a square plan (300-301) whose upper face has a concentric imprint or cavity inside which the mold (302) used for forming the articles object of this invention is received. The mold can comprise any number of molding cavities of various shapes, each suitable for containing the starting soft mass (303-304).
A preferred embodiment of the mold provides that the molds of the molding cavities are designed in such a way as to form articles which, at the end of the process, have a natural external appearance, where natural is understood to be characterized by rounded surfaces and irregular edges and jagged like natural stone (see for example FIG. 3). The molding cavities are completely delimited by the shapes of the mold (302) itself and can have a depth that is at most equal to the impression obtained inside the metal body, since the lower surface must have a uniform thickness along its entire length. .
In the forming process, the aforementioned lower pad (3) acts as a rim-type pad, ie suitable for coining the display face of the article.
L'impianto descritto funziona sostazialmente come segue. The described plant basically works as follows.
In the initial phase the press is open (FIG. 1), and is connected by means of the valve 101 to the discharge pipes T (104) and pressure pipes P (103).
The pad is in the rest configuration, the membrane is not compressed and the implant is in the configuration shown in FIG. 1, where the chamber is connected through the solenoid valve 102 to the exhaust duct T (104).
The molding cavities (303-304) are also loaded in this stage, an operation that can take place in one or more stages, depending on the type of material to be used for forming the products and / or the expected final result.
Once the molding cavities have been loaded, the isostatic pressing phase begins, i.e. the press closes the mold (FIG.2A), with which the force exerted by the upper pad (2) homogeneously compacts the soft starting mass housed in the aforementioned cavity (303-304), until the press reaches the set pressure of the control valve (102), which opens automatically, putting the pressure pipe P (103) in communication with the upper plug (2).
During this first stage of the pressing step, the elastic membrane deforms as shown in FIG. 2B, completely closing the upper part of the molding cavity and exerting a force which is concentrated more on the central part of the soft mass (203), delimited by the mold (3) in the lower part.
The pressure gradually increases and the pressing force of the upper plug continues to increase until the valve (102) opens automatically, putting the exhaust duct T (104) in communication with the upper plug (2).
Once the first pressing stage has been completed, a second stage begins, following said automatic opening of the valve (102), during which: the portions of membrane overlying the molding cavities (203) can rise and a corresponding part of oil it is transferred from the chamber to the tank (not shown in the figure).
The isostatic pressing phase is accompanied by a process of filtering the water of the soft starting material, carried out by a filtering septum (204-205).
Said filtering septum is given by the combination of layers of filtering material (204) and absorbent (205) fixed to the upper pad (2), which deform integrally to the elastically deformable membrane (202), thus allowing the water to escape through the septum itself, which is collected in special side channels (206).
With this the pressing phase ends, after which the mold opens completely and automatically repositions itself as at the beginning (FIG. 1), and with it also the hydraulic circuit.
The formed material can now be moved and manipulated with suitable systems, of which it is not necessary to enter into the merits, since they do not constitute any characterizing part of the invention, but represent known practices in the sector.
Thanks to the procedure described, surprising results are obtained, as it has been possible to ascertain through specific tests carried out with a plant conforming to the teachings of the invention, it is in fact possible to obtain products with a natural appearance, where natural is understood to be characterized by rounded surfaces and irregular edges. and jagged like natural stone.
The artifacts were produced starting from basic material not added to chemicals and with a reduced water content, about 6%, subjected to an isostatic type pressing process that can be defined as "dry", following the which have acquired an adequate consistency for their handling and handling.
By doing so, the manufacturing times have been greatly reduced, thus becoming compatible with an application on an industrial scale of the process, with consequent achievement of the purposes of the invention.
It should be noted that in the figure the pad is shown with the active face facing downwards, but it can be used upside down in the context of a forming mold of this kind as well known to those skilled in the art.
It is also specified that the conformation and distribution of the forming cavities presented in FIG. 3 may be different from those shown and described.
Infine è opportuno sottolineare che: Finally, it should be noted that:
- The quoted values relating to the water content of the soft starting material, respectively 30% for the traditional method and 6% for the new invention, are indicative and simply have the function of better understanding the differences between the two processes.
- The elastically deformable membrane (202), following the pressing action that it exerts on the product, creates a concavity (203) on the bottom of the said product which is extremely advantageous when laying the object.
- During the isostatic pressing process, the wear of the mold is greatly reduced, a characteristic element both of other types of pressing in which moving parts come into contact with each other, and of the methods indicated in the state of the art for the realization of the aforementioned artifacts for civil use.
- Given the characteristic flexibility of this production method, with a single upper isostatic pad (2), it is possible to design and manufacture more lower pads (3), each of which bearing molding cavities of the same or different shape, to be applied to the same drive hydraulic press; by doing so, not only the productivity of the system increases, but also the variety of the products themselves, a non-negligible requirement at the time of installation.
- The invention offers the opportunity to realize said artifacts used in the civil field for decorative purposes using different materials and / or combinations of them (cement, clay, quartz, resins, etc.); one of the desirable solutions also concerns the use of suitable waste products, recovered at the end of industrial processing cycles.
